Razor entered the hospital and stopped at the front desk to check in. He leaned over the desk and said, "Excuse me, miss. I am here to see my friend Pirouette. Can you tell me what room she is in, please?"
A younger nurse with curly red hair and light blue eyes looked up from her work and saw it was Razor standing in front of her. She couldn't help the way her heart skipped a beat and her smile grew ten shades brighter, her tail swishing to a happy rhythm behind her. Ever since she had seen him on the news a few weeks ago, she had an enormous crush on him. She replied, "Sure, Razor. Give me a minute to find her room in the database." She then started typing away on her keyboard.
Razor had turned his attention to a mural on the far wall of the reception area when he heard, "Blasted thing! 'Faster and easier to use', my foot! This thing causes more problems than it was supposed to fix!" the nurse said.
Razor turned his head back and asked, "Mind if I take a look?"
"Sure, this thing can't get any worse than it already is," The nurse replied.
Razor walked around the counter, leaned over the nurse, and stared at her screen.
The nurse could not help but turn her head to the right, and get a real good look at her crush. She breathed in his scent, and became a little more infatuated with him. She thought, 'Can my luck get any better? I have wanted to meet Razor for weeks, and now he is so close, I could kiss him!'
Her thoughts were interrupted when Razor said, "I found the problem. Your drive mapping is wrong. Give me a minute and I will have it fixed." He started typing on her keyboard, fixing what the hospital's IT department had messed up. Razor managed to fix her computer in record time. He stood back up and said, "All done, miss. You should not have any problems with this from now on. Until your IT department comes through and messes it up again, that is." He then righted himself as soon as he finished speaking.
The nurse got up out of her seat and hugged Razor. She said, "Thank you. This thing has been a major pain in the tail for weeks." She looked into his mask and decided to throw caution to the wind, leaning in to press her lips to his.
Razor had not been expecting her to kiss him, period. He gently pushed her back and held her at arm's length. He said, "Miss, I appreciate your gratitude, but me fixing your computer was not a reason to kiss me. Why did you do that?"
The nurse turned her head away in embarrassment before she said, "Ever since I saw you and T-Bone on the news a few weeks ago, I sort of developed a crush on you. As for the reason I kissed you? I figured this was going to be my only chance to do it. I'm such a fool."
Razor brought his paw up to her cheek and gently turned her head to face him. He then said, "You are not a fool; just a young lady suffering from a case of hero worship. You are very adorable, and I know you will someday find that certain someone who will care for you. I, however, am madly in love with Caliber. She is going to be my wife, and the mother of my kittens."
"May I ask you something, Razor?" the nurse asked.
"Sure," Razor replied.
"Why do I go after toms that are either out of my league or are already taken?" she asked.
Razor took her paws in his and simply replied, "I really don't know. You are young, and you will figure it out as you get older. Don't rush it, ok?
"I'll try," she said as she sat back down at her computer and the keyboard keys clacked as she typed in the information he had requested. A moment later, what she needed popped up on the screen. She reached into the desk drawer to her right, removed a guest pass, and handed to Razor as she said, "Your friend is in room 515. Take the elevator to the fifth floor, and once you exit, turn right. Her room is halfway down the hall on the right."
Razor took the pass from her and then kissed her cheek. He said, "Thank you, and please don't tell Caliber that I kissed you. She will string me up faster than I could explain."
A smile crept across the nurse's face and a giggle left her mouth. She then said, "I promise that kiss is between you, me, and the security staff." She pointed to the small, dark dome mounted in the ceiling that housed a security camera.
Razor looked up at the camera and slapped his forehead with his right paw. He then said, "I hope none of Caliber's family is on staff here. I would hate to have Caliber find out that I kissed you from one of her family members. If she found out through them, I would be one dead cat!"
"I know the guys who monitor the cameras, and they owe me a favor, so I'll kindly ask that those few seconds from the lobby feed somehow get erased from the recorder in exchange for a small favor from you," the nurse said.
"And what would that small favor be?" Razor cautiously asked.
"A ride on the Cyclotron, and a date for coffee. Caliber can be there too, so she knows I'm not going to try anything funny," the nurse replied.
"I'll see what I can arrange. I will stop by later, if Caliber lets me, that is," Razor said. He started to walk towards the elevators and waved so long to the nurse. When he arrived at the elevators, he pressed the button to summon the elevator and waited for it to arrive. He didn't have to wait long, though. Within thirty seconds, the elevator's doors opened and he entered. He turned to the left and faced the doors. He then pressed the button for the fifth floor and watched the doors close.
The elevator rose quickly to the fifth floor and stopped. The doors opened onto a dead end with hallways to both the left and the right. Razor remembered what the nurse had told him, and turned to the right. He walked halfway down the hall to room 515. He turned to the door, and entered without knocking. Before he had taken even a few steps inside, his breath was knocked out of his lungs as someone or something ran into him. He had no chance to get his bearings before finding himself being turned and pinned against the wall. A voice that sounded to him like a she-cat screamed, "You move again, and it will be the last thing you do! Now who are you, and why are you here?"
Razor was pressed with his chest firmly against the wall and his head turned to the left. His assailant had her right forearm pressed against his neck, and her left arm holding his left arm behind his back. He replied, "I'm Razor. I am here to relieve Adonis from his post. Will you please let me go before you accidentally break my neck?"
Nancy relaxed her posture and lessened the pressure on his neck. She then let go of his arm and said, "Sorry, Razor. Adonis entrusted me with Pirouette's life, and I told him I would watch over her while he was gone. You surprised me when you didn't knock on the door, so I thought you were a nefarious character trying to harm my new friend. I'm Nancy, by the way. Sixth degree black belt in karate, and self-defense instructor for the she-cats that work in the hospital."
Razor turned to Nancy, rubbed his neck with his right paw, and said, "At least he left Pirouette in more than capable paws. With moves like yours, how come you are not an Enforcer?"
Nancy extended her paw to shake Razor's as she said, "I was in the academy for a year and I excelled in all my classes, until one day I was running the obstacle course and tripped. I came down wrong on my right leg and shattered my tibia. After having surgery to repair my leg, I was told that I could not be allowed to continue at the academy because of my injury. Apparently the doctors had written on the report that my leg was not stable, and could splinter again. That was the end of my career in Law Enforcement. So, I enrolled in nursing school in order to continue helping my fellow cats in any way I could."
"That is very admirable of you," Razor said as he took her extended paw in his. He then said, "However, slamming someone into a wall is not exactly the best way to make a first impression."
"I said I was sorry! You should learn how to knock when entering a room. Then you might not get slammed into a wall by a she-cat that can kick your tail," Nancy said, as she took up an aggressive posture. She then said, "Now that you are here, I can get back to work." She looked at her watch and then said, "Felicia will be by in about an hour, and she is a tenth degree black belt in the same dojo I belong to. So behave yourself, Razor. You don't want to cross her." She then left the room.
After Nancy left, Razor said, "SWAT doesn't need to be here to watch you with those two nurses around. I wonder what other surprises this hospital has in store." He then walked over to Pirouette's bedside and took a seat in what had been Adonis' chair. Once he was seated, he asked, "Want to learn how to use a Glovetrix?"
Pirouette smiled from ear to ear and replied, "Nothing would make me happier right now, Razor."
Callie, Felina, Tina, Chance, and Katerina arrived at Sally's shop and found a parking space a block over. All of the females got out of Callie's car, and Felina walked over to the passenger side to help Chance. He got out, took his crutches from Katerina, and said, "You know, ladies, if I knew I would have four beautiful nurses helping me, I would have injured myself earlier."
Callie sauntered over to him, wrapped her left arm around his shoulder, and lightly punched him in the gut. She then said, "Remember dear, we may be beautiful, but we have really sharp teeth. Keep flirting with my girlfriends, and you will not only be sleeping on the couch, but any playtime that you thought you would have with me will go away." She walked away from him with her head held high and her tail swaying in time with her hips.
Chance rubbed his gut and asked, "Did she really have to hit me? I was only teasing her a little."
Katerina replied, "Someone needs to keep you toms in line, and didn't you mother ever tell you not to tease a pregnant she-cat? Apparently, we get very emotional while our bodies are adjusting."
They all walked as briskly as possible to catch up to Callie, who was already entering Sally's shop.
Callie opened the door and a bell signaled her arrival.
Sarah peeked out from the back room and saw Callie entering the shop. Sarah dropped whatever was in her little paws, ran towards Callie as fast as her legs could carry her, and screamed, "Callie!"
Callie quickly turned towards the source of the screaming, and got down on one knee before she opened her arms to catch the young she-cat. She smiled as Sarah almost bowled her over, but that didn't stop Callie from embracing Sarah and lifting her into the air. She asked, "Are you ready to have a day of fun with me and my friends, Sarah?"
"I can't wait, Callie! We are going to have so much fun together! When can I meet your friends?" Sarah asked.
The door opened again and Tina, Felina, Chance, and Katerina entered the shop.
"How about right now, Sarah. Meet my best friend, Miss Feral," Callie said as she pointed to Felina.
"Please call me either Felina or Lina, Sarah. I hate the sound of Miss Feral," Felina said as she went over and gave Sarah a hug.
Callie then pointed to Katerina as continued, "Sarah, this is Miss Belikov."
"Da, nice to meet you, Sarah," Katerina said.
Sarah was smiling so brightly that it melted whatever barrier had been holding Katerina back. She knelt down and hugged Sarah, too, murmuring words that no one else understood.
Callie said, "Sarah, this is my fiancé, Chance."
Sarah turned her head to look over at Chance. She asked, "What happened to you?"
"I was injured while protecting this city, Sarah," Chance replied.
Callie scowled at Chance, and then she said, "Ignore Mr. Sourpuss, Sarah. We will lighten his mood as the day goes on. And finally, this is Miss Cassidy."
Tina walked over to Sarah, smiled, and said, "Hi Sarah! Please call me Tina. We are going to be great friends."
Sarah had never seen a cat with markings or fur with the texture of Tina's. Sarah asked, "May I touch your cheek, Tina? I have never seen anyone with fur like yours, and I am wondering what it feels like."
"Go right ahead, Sarah," Tina replied.
Sarah slowly reached out with her right paw and lightly brushed it over Tina's left cheek, feeling the coarse fur slip between her fingers.
Tina felt Sarah's soft touch against her cheek. She closed her eyes and let out a purr as she brought her left paw up to touch Sarah's in order to encourage her to continue.
Sarah continued stroking Tina's cheek. She liked the feeling of Tina's fur against her paw. Sarah said, "Your fur feels really nice, and I've never seen a cat with markings like yours. What type of cat are you, Tina?"
As much as she liked feeling Sarah's gentle touch, Tina backed away from her and replied, "Sarah, I am a mix of a lynx and an ocelot. I guess you could call me a lylot or an ocenx. Nah, just call me Tina!" She then hugged Sarah tightly.
Sarah let go of Callie and hugged Tina.
Sally came out of the back room and saw her daughter hugging a strange she-cat. She asked, "Sarah, who is that?"
Callie stepped around Sarah and Tina and said, "Hi, Sally. These are my friends Felina, Katerina, the one hugging Sarah is Tina, and the big tom on the crutches is my fiancé, Chance."
"Sarah, please come here," Sally said.
Sarah listened to her mother and went to her. Sally wrapped her arms around her and said, "Sarah, I want you to behave today. Callie and her friends are nice enough to have you out at their house, and I want you to listen to them, ok?"
"Alright, mommy. I'll listen to everything they say. Mommy, have you ever seen a cat with fur like Tina's? It feels weird, but cool at the same time!" Sarah said.
Sally took a good look at Tina and realized that the markings on her face were actually quite exotic. Intrigued, she took stock of what Tina was wearing: a pair of tight jean shorts and a t-shirt with a black body suit underneath. Then she also noticed the multiple piercings in Tina's ears. None of this fazed Sally in the least. She had seen plenty of younger she-cats wearing similar outfits, although Tina's fur and markings enhanced the simple clothes she wore. Tina almost looked like a runway model. Sally asked, "Tina, did you ever think of becoming a model?"
"No, I never thought I was pretty enough, nor had the body type to do that. When I was a kitten, I pretended to be a model, but as the she-cats around me grew, I stayed pretty much the same size," Tina replied.
"Would you mind trying something on for me, Tina?" Sally asked.
"Not at all, Sally. Please lead the way," Tina replied. But before she left to follow Sally, she turned to Sarah and said, "I'll be right back, Sarah." She then followed Sally towards the back of the store.
Sarah watched her new friend go and follow her mother. She went over to Katerina and asked, "I like your accent, Miss Belikov. Where are you from?"
Katerina crouched down to Sarah's level and replied, "I grew up in an East European country far away from here. You like the sound of my voice?"
"Oh yes, Miss Belikov. I wish I could talk like that," Sarah replied.
"Please call me Katerina, Sarah. I can teach you how to talk like I do, if you like?" Katerina offered.
Sarah wrapped her arms around Katerina and said, "I would like that very much, Katerina."
Katerina liked having Sarah's arms around her. She briefly wondered if this was how it felt to be a mother.
Sally stopped and turned to the rack of dresses on her right. She reached into the rack, and after a few minutes, found the garment bag she was looking for. Sally removed the bag from the rack and said, "Tina, I started designing clothes for younger teenagers a few years ago, but never had a model small enough to wear them. These should fit you perfectly."
Tina took the bag from Sally and went into the dressing room. She hung the bag on a hook to the right of the door, and then started undressing. She opened the bag and saw an elegant, deep violet-colored, single-strap dress. She let the material fall through her right paw, and she fell in love with the velvety texture of the material. Tina removed the dress from the hangar and pulled it on her body. As soon as she was dressed, she turned to the mirror in the dressing room and liked what she saw. The dress showed off her shoulders and upper chest perfectly, allowing just enough cleavage to intrigue, but not so much as to cheapen the outfit. The material clung to the wearer's waist and hips, showing off Tina's shapely form, and finally, the skirt flowed out from her hips and stopped just below her knees. Tina tried her best to imitate some of the poses that she saw runway models using as she stared at herself in the mirror. But her posing felt very awkward, so she stopped and laughed at herself.
Sally heard Tina's laughter and asked, "Are you alright in there?"
Tina turned her head towards the door and replied, "I'm fine, Sally. I was laughing at myself trying to pose like a model."
Would you please come out, then? I want to see how that dress looks on you," Sally said.
Tina opened the door and stepped out of the dressing room. She stood in front of Sally with her feet spread shoulder-width apart and her hips cocked to the left. She placed her hands firmly on her hips, then asked, "What do you think?"
Sally definitely liked what she saw. Between Tina's markings and her small but shapely form, Tina looked gorgeous to her. She said, "I think you look radiant, Tina. Let's see what your friends think."
Tina followed Sally to the front of the store and stood behind her as Sally said, "I want all of your opinions, and please be honest." She stepped out of the way, revealing Tina wearing her creation.
Katerina let go of Sarah and went to Tina's side. She placed her right paw on Tina's cheek and said, "You look beautiful, dear. It makes me want to take you out for a night of romantic dancing."
Sally heard Katerina call Tina 'dear' and asked, "Are you two lovers?"
Katerina's eyes never left Tina's as she replied, "Not just lovers, Sally. We are engaged to marry."
"When you two are ready to be wed, please come back here, and I will design and make your wedding gowns for you," Sally said.
"Thank you, Sally, but that won't be necessary. We both are enrolled in the Enforcer Academy, and I plan on getting married in my dress uniform," Katerina said.
"But surely one of you will be wearing a dress? Tina, will you allow me to make you a wedding dress that will make you the envy of every other bride?" Sally asked.
"If you insist, Sally, I will allow you to make me into a walking marshmallow," Tina replied.
Sally's tail swished in excitement at the thought of making Tina's wedding dress. She said, "Trust me, Tina; I will not make you look like a walking marshmallow. I am thinking of a dress that will accentuate your exotic markings, and show off those legs of yours. When you are ready, please come back, and I will take detailed measurements of your body. If this dress looks as good in real life as I am imagining it, Katerina is going to be speechless when she sees you at the other end of the aisle."
Sarah finally got a good look at her new friend and said, "Wow Tina! Mommy made you look gorgeous!"
Tina went to Sarah, got down on her level, and said, "Your mother has a knack for clothing, Sarah. If your mother can make me a wedding dress like she described, I will look beautiful." She then rubbed her nose against Sarah's as she smiled.
Sarah giggled as Tina rubbed her nose against hers.
Tina started thinking that this was exactly what parenthood should be like: having fun with your kitten and watching them grow up to be their own cat. She then reached out with her paws and tickled Sarah.
Sarah's little giggles turned into bouts of laughter as Tina tickled her. Sarah's laughter slowly died down as Tina stopped tickling her. Then Sarah said, "I like you a lot, Tina. Can you be my sister, just like Callie?"
Tina felt a tear form in her eye after Sarah asked her question. She hugged Sarah and said, "Oh Sarah, I would love that. I've always wanted a little sister."
Sarah returned her embrace and said, "I love you, Tina."
Sarah's statement took Tina by surprise. They had just met, and already Sarah was saying that she loved her. Hearing that brought Tina to the breaking point. She hugged Sarah even tighter and replied, "I love you, too. One day, I hope to have a little girl of my own that is just like you."
Katerina joined them in their embrace. She kissed Tina and said, "I want the same thing, Tina. A little daughter just like Sarah."
Callie went over to Chance and leaned her head on his left shoulder, while her left paw snaked around his waist.
Chance turned his head toward his future wife and asked, "Are you alright, my love?"
Callie lifted her head and replied, "I'm fine, Chance. I was just picturing how we are going to be in just a few short months. We are going to have our paws full with three kittens to raise."
Chance kissed her and said, "We will be fine, Callie. Our kittens are going to be little angels." He then looked at Felina and said, "Unlike Felina and Unlike Felina and Jake's. If their kitten is anything like her, they are going to be gray-furred by the time it's a toddler."
"Our kitten is going to be better behaved than yours will, Chance!" Felina yelled back as she crossed her arms under her chest.
"Want to make a bet, Lina?" Callie asked.
"What do you have in mind?" Felina asked.
"If our kittens are better behaved than yours is after a year, both you and Jake have to watch them while Chance and I go away for a romantic weekend."
"And if my kitten is better behaved, you and Chance has to watch it while Jake and I go away for a week!" Felina replied.
Deal!" Callie said. "With you as its mother, Chance and I can start booking that weekend now."
Felina walked over to Chance and Callie and took Callie away from Chance. She then lightly wrapped her right arm around Callie's neck and gave her a noogie right between the ears, causing Callie to burst into laughter.
Sarah watched as Callie and Felina behaved like sisters. She turned to Tina and Katerina and asked, "Do they always act like that?"
Katerina hugged Sarah tighter as she replied, "Da. When those two are together, you never know what they are going to do. Want to get going, Sarah? We have a long drive ahead of us, and we still have to stop by Callista's shop to pick out engagement rings for Tina and myself."
"Can I help pick them out?" Sarah asked.
"Sure you can, Sarah! We would love for you to help pick out our engagement rings, right Katerina?" Tina asked.
"Da, Tina. We would love your help, Sarah," Katerina replied.
Sally was very happy that her daughter was coming further out of her shell and making friends. She said, "Tina, would you like to model my clothing on a runway? There's a fashion show coming up with an exclusive focus on clothing for the teenage demographic. Between your petite size and your exotic markings, you would be a perfect model. What do you think?"
Tina thought about it for a minute. This was her chance at making one of her kittenhood dreams come true. She got up, went over to Sally, and asked, "Will my new friend be there?" She then looked over at Sarah.
Sally replied, "As long as you've made your catwalk debut by Sarah's bedtime, I don't see why not."
"Then I will do it, Sally!" Tina replied, hugging Sally as soon as she was done speaking. Tina turned her head towards Sarah and said, "I'm going to change back into my regular clothing, and then we can start your day of fun!"
Tina and Sally walked back to the dressing rooms paw in paw as Sally started picking out outfits that, in her mind, Tina would look absolutely gorgeous in.
