Time for a little bit of action. As you will read, Felicia is a she-cat that is very kind and lovable. However, she can be very deadly when needed to be.
MisaRae, keep going with Two-Plus-Two, the story keeps getting better and better with each chapter.
Finally, welcome aboard PokemonMPMTPC. Sit back and enjoy your flight.
Jake and Lisa left the building and made their way back to the limo. Alice had just gotten off the phone with Diana, having told her the great news. She heard the door to Lisa's building close, noticed Jake and Lisa walking towards her, and said, "Diana was so ecstatic when I told her that Claw-Tek is now one of our regular clients. She literally jumped out of her chair and broke something in her office. She wants to thank you personally for giving our small agency the opportunity to serve Claw-Tek."
"That is not necessary, Alice. My company needs a service that we know is going to be reliable and dependable. I can't afford to have my sales team missing appointments because their ride doesn't show up," Jake said.
"She still wants to thank you for the opportunity to work with Claw-Tek, and I'll make the recommendation to Diana that we wear slacks instead of leggings when we work for you."
Jake put his right paw on her shoulder and said, "That will be fine, Alice. Can we get going? As you said, we have a long ride out to the house, and I want to see my fiancée's face when she opens the front door." Just as soon as Jake finished speaking, his phone vibrated. He reached into his pocket and looked at the screen. The house's security system had notified him, telling him that someone had unlocked the front door and entered the house. He pulled up the security camera for that area on his phone, and saw Felina and their friends, as well as the foreman, at the front door. "Well, so much for being there to surprise her with the new house," Jake said.
Lisa got into the back of the limo and noticed Jake staring at his phone. She asked as she buckled herself into the seat, "What are you staring at so intently?"
Jake lifted his head and turned it towards Lisa. He then showed her the phone and said, "I had some of the best security cameras available installed in the house while it was being renovated, as well as a few toys to make life more comfortable for myself and Felina. The whole house is smart, and any room can be controlled by either a touch panel mounted on the wall, or by my or Felina's new phone. Now the only problem is going to be teaching her how to use the system."
"I don't think that will be a problem, Jake. She seemed very adept at flying the TurboKat 2. Aren't the same type of controls installed in her jet?" Lisa asked.
"Not quite the same, Lisa. The screens in the jet are laid out very similarly to the gauges in the TurboKat and the Enforcers' planes, so using them felt almost natural to her. The screens at the house have a completely different layout. If she is not careful, she could accidentally turn on the gas fireplace without making sure that it is lit first, and fill the entire house with gas," Jake replied.
"We wouldn't want that to happen. However, knowing her, she will be able to figure out most of the stuff by herself. I remember when her uncle gave her a new automatic rifle for her to test out on the range. Let's just say that one of the training buildings needed new windows anyway, and your fiancée gave them the incentive to have them replaced," Lisa said, and then laughed.
Jake pictured Felina trying to control such a weapon, and shooting out all the windows in the building, as well as peppering the building's walls with bullets. He started to laugh right along with Lisa as the limo left her building and headed out of the city.
Felicia finished her shift at the hospital, said goodnight to Dr. Feldman, and went home. On the train ride back to her apartment, she thought about the offer Jake and Lisa had presented her with. She liked the idea of using her natural abilities to help others, and the possibility of teaching the other members of SWAT Martial Arts was very appealing to her.
The train she was riding pulled up to the next stop. When the doors opened, a few cats got off, but a group of them got on, members of what she could only assume were a gang. They were all dressed in the same color clothing and had chains draped from their waists. They appeared to scan the crowd, as if trying to find an easy target. One of them eyed Felicia, and let his gaze rake up and down her body. She shivered as the cat did so, but instead of confronting him, she let it go and looked out the window instead.
The train's doors closed and it started moving again. Once the train was out of the station, one of the gang members pulled a knife out of his boot and said. "Ladies and gentlemen, if you would be so kind as to hand over your valuables to my associates, no one will be harmed."
Felicia's fur stood up on the back of her neck when the gang's apparent leader spoke. She knew she could take them all on and teach them a lesson that they would never forget. However, she did not want to have any of the other passengers harmed while she dealt out her form of justice. She continued to look out the window and fingered the shiroken in her coat's pocket, biding her time until it was safe for her to strike.
The other members of the gang made quick work of the car's passengers, gathering their ill-gotten merchandise and putting it in their pockets. That was, until one of them reached an older couple. He noticed a diamond ring on the she-cat's finger and said, "Come on, Grandma. Hand it over."
The older tom tried to push the younger one away from his wife and said, "Please, leave my wife alone. I gave her that ring to celebrate fifty years of happy marriage. I'll give you everything else I have, but please leave my wife alone."
"Oh, you will give me everything you have, Pops, and your wife will give me that ring. Hand it over, Grandma, and your husband will continue breathing," the gang member said.
Felicia reached into her other pocket and felt a mask inside it. She had forgotten that it was there from the last mass casualty drill they had at the hospital. She removed the mask from her pocket, poked a few holes in it for her eyes with her claws, turned away from everyone else on the train, and put it on. She was not going to let this gang get away with robbing these cats who were on their way home. Felicia waited for the right moment to go into action, and mentally prepared herself for the fight.
The gang member pushed the older tom back away from his wife, pulled out a gun, and shot him in the foot. The gang member then said, "That is what you get for trying to be a hero, Pops! Now for your bride." He turned to face the older she-cat and said, "Give me that ring, or your husband will have another hole in his body, and this time, it will be a lot higher." He moved the gun's barrel so it was aimed at the tom's chest.
Felicia took that as her cue. She narrowed her eyes, ran past a few passengers, grabbed onto the closest grab bar she could, and swung her feet directly into the gun-wielding gang member's chest, sending him flying away from the couple. She landed on her feet and said, "Anybody else want a piece of me? Well, come and get it!"
A few more gang members charged at Felicia in an attempt to bring her down. However, none of them were very accurate with their attacks. In fact, they were very clumsy, which gave Felicia a leg up on the situation. She very easily, and with almost surgical precision, dispatched every single one of her attackers, leaving them on the floor of the car in a bloodied heap. After she took care of the last two toms at the same time, she took a triumphant stance and asked, "Anyone else want to try and take me on?"
The train pulled into the next scheduled stop, and was greeted by a small army of Enforcer officers lining the platform. Apparently the train's conductor had called the dispatcher, who called the Enforcers. As the train pulled to a stop and the doors opened, the Enforcers filed onto the train and arrested all of the gang members.
Felicia didn't want to draw any attention to herself, so when the time was right, she slipped out the back of the train and ran out of the station. She knew this area of the city well, since her dojo was located there. Felicia removed her mask and placed it back in her pocket as the adrenalin slowly ebbed from her body. She slowly walked down the streets of the city until she was standing in front of the dojo's entrance. She pulled out her keys, put one of them in the lock, and opened the door. She entered, then closed and locked the door behind her.
Upstairs in a small room, an older tom sat with his legs crossed. His eyes were closed, and his arms rested on his thighs with his palms facing up. He was wearing a happi coat of red silk adorned with white sakura flowers down the lapels. An alarm sounded in the room he was meditating in, alerting him to an unexpected visitor, and his ears perked up. He slipped out of his seated position and to his feet with the grace and fluidity of a deadly dancer before grabbing a katana from the wall before heading down to the dojo and confronting whoever dared to enter.
Felicia's adrenalin was still pumping through her veins as she removed her shoes before entering the dojo. She made her way to the changing room, stripped out of her street clothes, and put on her gi. She then left the changing room and grabbed a wooden practice sword from the rack, went over to a training dummy, bowed in respect, and then attacked the dummy.
As the dojo's master walked down the stairs from his apartment above the dojo, he heard the distinctive sounds of a wooden sword connecting with a practice dummy. He stepped off of the stairs, turned left into the dojo, and saw his best student hard at work, practicing her sword attacks. He frowned as he watched Felicia almost randomly whack the dummy with her sword without the finesse she normally had. He yelled, "STOP!"
Felicia heard her master's voice and stopped what she was doing, turned towards him, and fell to her knees. She bowed and said, "Forgive my intrusion, master. I didn't mean to disturb you."
The master went over to her, placed a paw on her left shoulder, and said, "Rise, my child."
Felicia then stood and waited for her master to berate her.
However, that was the farthest thing from his mind. He asked, "Why were you attacking that dummy so sloppily, Felicia? Normally you handle that sword with deadly precision. Is something troubling you?"
"No master, I am alright. No, I am better than alright. I assisted in stopping a robbery on a train this afternoon. I came here to burn off the last bit of adrenaline I still had left over," Felicia answered.
The master lifted his left eyebrow and said, "My child, you were very brave, and your intent was noble, but the act itself was quite foolish. What if your opponents had been able to use your abilities against you? Then we would not be having this conversation now because you would be dead! Felicia, you are one of my prize students. I taught you everything I know and then some to help you through life, not so you could waste it on trivial altercations."
"But master, if I hadn't done something, several, several cats would have perished at the hands of that gang. You have taught me when to use my abilities, and when not to. I chose to use what you have taught me to help those who needed it this afternoon, and I had little doubt that I would be the one to emerge victorious," Felicia said.
"That is called being overconfident, Felicia. Never underestimate your opponent, for even a second. The results can be deadly," the master said. He walked across the floor of the dojo to a shrine. He opened the shine to reveal a photo of two toms, each the other's arms around the other. He asked, "Have I ever told you what happened to my sons?"
"No master, you never have," Felicia responded.
"Come, child. Kneel with me," the master said, and then knelt on a mat in front of the shrine.
Felicia went to his right side and knelt next to him.
"We were still living in Japan. Both Sosuke and Ushio had just earned their tenth degree black belts from my brother's dojo. They were so proud of themselves, and I was equally proud of them and what they had accomplished. That night, they were out celebrating with their fiancées, and from what I was told by my son's former fiancée, Ushio heard the cry of a she-cat coming from a back alley. He motioned for his brother to assist him in checking out the sound, and see if there was anything they could do to help. They both kissed their fiancées one last time before disappearing down the alley. After half an hour had passed, Mariko and Aya went down the alley to find my sons. Unfortunately for Aya, she found them. They, as well as a she-cat and her husband, had been beheaded. Mariko grabbed hold of Aya, they both left the alley and called the police. After the investigation, it was determined that my sons walked in on a Yakuza hit, and they were murdered along with the cats who had been the assassins' targets. My wife and I left our beloved home, and moved here shortly afterwards," the master said.
Felicia stared at the photo of Sosuke and Ushio for a minute. They looked so happy together, and obviously had full lives ahead of them. She turned her head to her master and said, "Even though they did not deserve to die that day, they died with honor. They gave up their lives in an attempt to help another," Felicia said.
"My sons were overconfident, and had no right to go into that situation! That is what got them killed. They lacked the one emotion that protects us all, fear. My sons didn't fear going into that alley, for if they had, they would have been prepared, and I might be a grandfather instead of burying my own sons," the master said.
Felicia knew exactly what her master was telling her master was telling her, and she realized that she had been overconfident that afternoon. Her actions could have not only gotten herself killed, but cost the lives of the other cats around her. She turned her head back to the photo and said, "I understand what you are telling me, master. I will not let myself get overconfident again."
"Good. I have grown to love you like a daughter, Felicia, and I don't know what I would do if you were taken from me," the master said, then got up, went to the shrine, said a few words, and closed it. He walked back to Felicia and said, "I'm getting too old to run this dojo anymore. Therefore, I am leaving it in your capable paws, Felicia. You are now the dojo's master."
The last thing Felicia had wanted to hear was that her master was thinking of retiring, even if he was offering her the opportunity of a lifetime. She was very grateful for both his training and putting so much faith in her. However, the thought of him leaving her life after being such a big part of it for twenty years devastated her. With tears in her eyes, she said, "I am not ready for that responsibility, master. There is so much more for you to teach me that I can pass on to my students."
The master put his arms around her neck, letting her tears water the sakura blossoms on the lapels of his jacket. He said, "My child, you are more than ready to take my place. I have taught you everything I can. It is up to you to keep learning on your own, and pass those lessons onto your students. Would it make you feel better if we sparred again like we used to before you became such a strong, beautiful she-cat?"
Felicia pulled back from his embrace and looked into his eyes. She answered, "If I win, you have to stay on as my advisor."
A smile crossed the master's face, and then he said, "And if I win, you will take over the dojo, and my wife and I are moving to Hawaii."
The same smile made its way onto Felicia's face, and she said, "I accept."
Master and student made their way to the tatami mats, took their respective positions, and Felicia said, "No holding back, master."
"I wouldn't dream of it, child," he replied. Then he quickly changed his stance and yelled, "Fight!"
Felina crossed the threshold of her new house and her jaw dropped. The first thing she saw was the lavish furniture adorning the living room, and then the gas fireplace which had flames burning in the hearth with a picture of her and Jake hanging over the mantle. She said, "My future husband and I are going to have a very long talk when he gets here later." She then walked away towards the kitchen.
The rest of the group entered the house, and noticed the same things Felina did. Tina looked around at all the light streaming in from the windows and said, "Now I know exactly the kind of house I want. There's a ton of natural light coming in, and it feels so warm and cozy in here."
Katerina and Sarah followed Felina into the kitchen, and Katerina found herself greatly impressed as she took in the layout of the room, as well as the treasure trove of brand new appliances situated here, there, and everywhere. Katerina ran her paw down the marble countertop of the breakfast bar, and marveled at how the craftsmen had been able to get the marble to flow seamlessly into the built-in, stainless steel sink. She then accidentally brushed her paw against the faucet, and it turned on. At first, Katerina pulled her paw back in shock, but then she touched it again, and it turned off.
Sarah couldn't see what everyone was looking at, so she jumped up a few times to get a better look at the kitchen.
Katerina noticed the tiny kitten trying her best to peer over the tall counters. She bent over and picked up Sarah in her arms. She asked, "Is that better, Sarah?"
Sarah turned her head to face Katerina and replied, "Da. Did I get that right, Katerina?"
Katerina smiled and rubbed her nose against Sarah's, which caused Sarah to giggle. Katerina pulled her face back and answered, "'Da' is correct, Sarah. If you really want to learn my language, I would be more than happy to teach you."
"Really, Katerina?I love the way you talk," Sarah said.
"Then we will start after dinner tonight, and we will also teach Tina, if she so desires," Katerina said.
Mark and Callie wandered around the house, and noticed that each room had its own touch panel. Mark touched the panel of the room he was currently in, and it came to life, showing all of the controls for that particular room. There was a set of buttons for adjusting the room's temperature, while another was hooked into a personal sound system. There was even a keypad that could be used to adjust the lights. He turned to Callie and said, "How, exactly, can Jake afford all of this? I read in a magazine somewhere that this panel alone costs over $2500.00."
Callie was not about to tell Mark that Jake owned Claw-Tek Industries, and was one of the wealthiest toms in the entire hemisphere. She just replied, "You will have to ask him yourself, Mark." She then tickled the dragon that was still sitting on her shoulder.
The dragon was now wide awake, and let a puff of smoke out of its mouth.
"That's not a good sign. I thought Callista said it would look like a regular lizard for years. I had better speak to her sooner rather than later," Callie said.
"What is not a good sign, Callie?" Mark asked, then caught a whiff of brimstone and sulfur. He put his paw over his nose and asked, "Oh! Where's that smell coming from?"
"That would be Sarah's new pet, Mark. Meet Inferno or Scarlet, the dragon," Callie said.
"A dragon!? You have to be pulling my leg, Callie. Dragons don't exist, and never have. The only place anyone can find them would be in folklore or books made for kittens," Mark said.
Callie shot him a stern look, pointed to the creature on her shoulder, and asked, "So, how do you explain this little guy or gal then, Mark?"
Mark walked over to Callie and closely examined the creature sitting at attention on her shoulder. It just looked like a red lizard to him, so he replied, "Except for the spade at the end of its tail, this little thing appears to be a normal lizard. What makes you think it's a dragon?"
The dragon didn't like being called a lizard at all. It narrowed its eyes at Mark, took a deep breath, and then shot a small flame out of its mouth, which singed his whiskers. The scents of brimstone, sulfur, and burnt fur filled the room.
Mark quickly backed away from the dragon, and felt his face to make sure that he had not been burned too severely.
Callie clasped her left paw over her mouth to try and hide that she was laughing at Mark's expense. Unfortunately, her attempt failed, and he heard her loud and clear.
Mark turned to her and said, "That was not funny, Callie. That little thing could have burned me!"
Callie stopped laughing long enough to say, "Mark, this cute little guy or gal is so small that it can only produce a flame the size of a lighter. Now if he or she was bigger, I would worry more. I definitely need to talk to my grandmother; now even more so. I could have sworn she said that this dragon would act like a lizard for years, but apparently she was wrong. I have a feeling that this dragon is maturing faster than she imagined."
"You had better talk to her soon. I'm not sure about Sarah have such a dangerous thing as a pet. I would hate for it to set Sarah's house on fire just because it saw a mouse and got frightened," Mark said.
"I highly doubt my grandmother would let Sarah have something that could potentially harm her. From what she has told me, her companion Esmeralda would never harm a fly. Well, that is unless someone tried to hurt Callista. Then she would have eaten them," Callie said.
"I certainly hope not, Callie," Mark said, and then checked his face once again with his paws. He continued, "I would hate to break the news to Sarah that she can't keep her new pet. She is such a lovable little girl that it is easy to become attached to her."
"Yes, she is, Mark," Callie replied. She then turned her head to face the dragon sitting on her right shoulder and asked, "You wouldn't harm little Sarah, would you?"
The dragon lifted its head, looked into Callie's green eyes, and then cuddled into her neck.
"I'll take that as a no," Callie said, and then laughed as the dragon tickled her neck with its tail. The dragon then let out a painful screech as two tiny wings emerged from its back.
Callie saw that the dragon now had wings and said, "Ok, now we have a small problem. I think I am going to reach out to my grandmother right now."
"How are you going to do that, Callie?" Mark asked. "I didn't see you bring in a bag."
"That is easy, Mark. Watch," Callie replied. Her eyes turned white as she concentrated on contacting Callista.
Callista had just finished with her last customer of the day before she closed up shop. As she locked the front door and turned the closed sign around, she felt Callie trying to contact her. She backed away from the door and opened her mind to her granddaughter. 'Callie! You were able to reach me all the way from the house? I had better start shielding myself when Ulysses is around, then.'
'Callista, I definitely don't want to know what you are thinking when you are with Ulysses, but I do have a problem,' Callie thought back.
'Oh, what is wrong?' Callista asked.
'The dragon is breathing fire and has developed wings. I distinctly remember you saying that it would act like a lizard for years,' Callie answered with her thoughts.
'Esmeralda was a lizard for ten years before I realized she was a dragon. I guess it matured while it was in the egg,' Callista thought back.
'Well, what do I do now?! I can't let Sarah keep the dragon. Sally will have a fit that not only does her daughter have a pet, but it is a real dragon!' Callie mentally yelled.
'Don't yell at me, Callie! I'm still your grandmother, and I can still punish you! Now, as far as the dragon is concerned, if it is anything like Esmeralda, Sarah will be fine. Esmeralda was the best friend I could ever want, well, except for Amelia," Callista replied.
'Are you sure, Callista?' Callie asked.
'As sure as I can be, Callie. Now, if you will excuse me, I have a date to get ready for,' Callista answered, and severed the link.
Mark watched in awe as Callie mentally communicated with Callista. Her whole body seemed to glow as she concentrated on what she was doing. Then her body stopped glowing, and her eyes turned back to normal. Mark went over to her and asked, "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine, Mark," Callie answered.
"Good, because that was incredible! What did your grandmother say?" Mark asked.
"She said that we shouldn't worry too much about the dragon. She also thinks Sarah will be fine. Let's go back to the others," Callie answered, and led them back to the rest of the group in the kitchen.
