Sorry for the delay folks, things have been crazy up here.
Thank you MisaRae, for being my friend and doing everything you do to support me!
Also, I'm about to publish the second chapter of Bad Girls today. Go on and read it, after this of course..
Rolf had finished signing the discharge papers the doctor gave him and he was ready to leave the hospital.
A nurse arrived a few minutes later with a wheelchair as well as a pair of crutches for Rolf.
Rolf slid off of the bed and into the wheelchair, he then turned to Roger and asked, "Want to go for a ride?"
Roger looked up at his mother and asked, "Can I mommy?"
Stacy replied, "I don't see why not, as long as the nurse doesn't mind."
"Not at all miss," the nurse said. "Actually, I'm surprised this cute little kitten wasn't in his father's lap the whole time he was here. They are so adorable together."
"I'm not his father miss," Rolf said as he helped Roger into his lap. After Roger was situated, he couldn't deny he liked having Roger close to him and felt as if they belonged together. He turned his head to look at Stacy, then said, "Although someday, maybe I will be his father."
Stacy watched Rolf hold onto Roger as he was wheeled out of his room and down the hall. As she walked behind them and alongside Marissa, she said, "Your brother does get along very well with Roger. My last boyfriend didn't know I had a son and as soon as he found out, I never heard from him again." She watched as Rolf ruffled Roger's wild mane of red hair and how Roger smiled and laughed right along with Rolf.
"You should have seen Rolf playing with our baby cousins Stacy," Marissa said as she also watched Rolf and Roger play and interact. "He seemed right at home with the babies as well as the older kittens, then he got sad when they had to go back home. My brother will make a great father to a kitten or two someday, and I think I can honestly say, he wants you Stacy to be the mother, he really likes you."
"Good, because I felt something back there when we kissed," Stacy said. "I felt warm, comforted, and I felt like I was home."
They exited the hospital and the nurse stopped, applied the chair's brakes, and said, "Mr. Smith, you have been sprung. If you don't mind, I need my chair back."
"Sorry miss," Rolf said. "Rides over Roger, you need to get off of my lap so I can get out of this nice nurse's chair.
"Ok," Roger replied and jumped out of Rolf's lap and onto the sidewalk.
Once Roger was standing next to Stacy again, Rolf attempted to stand up and put weight on his leg. He winced in pain as the stitches pulled a little and grabbed the arms of the chair before he fell onto his tail.
Stacy and Marissa were at his sides almost instantly, supporting him from under his shoulders, and helping him over to a green metal bench just to his right. They made him sit down and grabbed the crutches from the nurse.
"Thank you ladies," Rolf said. "That was more painful than I thought it would be." He took a few breaths as the pain subsided.
Roger came over to him and asked, "Are you ok Rolf?"
Rolf smiled at the kitten and replied, "I will be Roger." With a twinkle in his eye he asked the young kitten, "You're smart, can you figure out how we are getting home?"
Roger brought his right paw under his chin and came up with an answer that a three year old only could come up with. "Spaceship."
Rolf, Stacy, Marissa and the nurse laughed at the kitten's idea but not at him. Stacy crouched down and said, "Come here."
Roger ran to his mother who encircled him in her arms, then said, "Mine is in the shop getting fixed, so no spaceship today. How about I call for a taxi to take us home and Marissa and Rolf back to the academy?"
"Alright mommy," Roger said.
Marissa looked over her left shoulder and noticed two patrol cars sitting by the hospital's exit. She tapped Stacy on the left shoulder and asked, "Why would there be two patrol cars here? It's not standard practice, at least in the training manuals."
Stacy turned her head to look over her shoulder at the two cars sitting by the exit. She stood up and said, "No, its not standard operating procedure to have a car, much less two of them at a hospital." She handed Roger to Marissa and said, "Roger, stay with Marissa while mommy finds out what is going on." She started walking over to the two cars and when she got closer to them, Stacy put her right paw on her gun.
One of the patrol cats noticed Stacy coming towards him and his partner with her paw on her service weapon. He quickly put his paws up in the air and shouted out of the window, "Hold it Firecracker, we were sent to take you home and the other two back to the academy."
As soon as she heard the name Firecracker leave the patrol cat's mouth, she removed her paw from her weapon and ran over to the car, shouting, "John! Bryce!"
John got out of the car and hugged Stacy as soon as she was close enough. He then said, "We missed you Firecracker."
Stacy hugged her friend that she had not seen since they graduated the academy together over a year ago tightly when Bryce came over to them and asked, "Don't I get a hug too Firecracker?"
Stacy broke free from John and went over to Bryce before hugging him too.
Bryce hugged her back and said, "We should have teamed up when we graduated Firecracker, I missed you so much."
"I missed you both too," Stacy said as she reached out with her right arm and pulled John into the hug.
Rolf watched as Stacy embraced the two toms and started to feel jealous that they were hugging his girlfriend.
Stacy kissed them both on the cheek and pulled out of their shared embrace. She then said, "There is someone else here who has not seen their uncles since he was one."
Bryce's face lit up and said, "Roger is here too! Where is the little tyke? He must be big by now."
"Not quite, but you can see for yourself Bryce," Stacy said. "He is right over there with my new friend and the guy I have just started seeing."
Both John and Bryce looked at each other then back to Stacy. Then John asked, "Guy you just started seeing? Do your big brothers need to make sure he is good enough for you Firecracker?"
"You do and you both will be eating through straws for the next month!" Stacy exclaimed. "So you two had better be on your best behavior, or I am going to kick your tails like I did back at the academy!"
"We will," John and Bryce said simultaneously.
"Good," Stacy said as she led the two toms over to where Rolf, Marissa, and Roger were sitting.
Rolf's eyes never left Stacy as she hugged the two toms and started walking back towards them.
Marissa noticed the intense glare her brother was giving the two toms plus Stacy. She slapped the back of his head and said, "Stop being jealous Rolf!"
Rolf rubbed the back of his head and lifted his head towards his sister. He then said, "You are so lucky I love you Marissa."
Stacy chuckled at the way Marissa and Rolf behaved. She knew they loved each other to know end and would do anything for the other. However, watching them bicker back and forth was way too much fun. She eventually said, "Rolf, Marissa, meet the two guys that made my time at the academy bearable." She turned to the two toms to her left and right and said, "John, Bryce, I want you two to meet my new friend Marissa."
Marissa looked at the John and saw a tom with black hair in a crew cut. He had a medium build, and was wearing a police uniform. Bryce had light brown hair also in a crew cut and was wearing a police uniform. However he had a slender build and light blue eyes. She then said, "Hi, I'm Marissa and this is my brother Rolf."
Rolf, John, and Bryce locked eyes then Bryce asked, "Are you going to be a better tom to her than her ex was Rolf?"
"Bryce!" Stacy screamed.
"Its alright Stacy," Rolf said before he turned to Bryce and John and replied, "I just met her and Roger today and I like them both, a lot. As I told Roger, with time and as long as his mother doesn't kick my tail to the curb, I would like to be his step-father."
John then asked, "Are you sure? Firecracker can be very stubborn at times."
"Firecracker?" Rolf asked. "Why do you call her Firecracker?"
John laughed for a second then answered, "Stacy has the tendency to blow up rather spectacularly without much notice."
"I don't blow up John," Stacy said.
"No? Then explain why you don't have a partner Firecracker," John replied and crossed his arms over his chest.
Stacy followed John's lead but also bent her left knee slightly before she said, "I plead the Fifth."
"You can't plead the Fifth Stacy," Bryce said. "Just tell him what happened to Moses."
Stacy huffed then said, "Fine, he just could not keep up with my high energy way of doing things."
"And," John stated.
Stacy shot him a nasty look and continued, "And, he couldn't handle the way I.. By Bast I hate you guys. Moses could not handle the way I blew up at him or my superiors when I was cornered." She threw her paws in the air and said, "There, I said it! Are you two happy now?"
"Yes we are Firecracker," Bryce said before he turned to Rolf and asked, "So do you still think you can handle her fiery personality?"
"Stacy, can you come here for a minute, please," Rolf said.
Stacy walked over to him and bent over so her face was level with his. She then asked, "What is it Rolf?"
Rolf took a big risk with what he was about to do. Especially in front of her friends. He quickly brought his left arm up, wrapped it around Stacy's neck, and brought her forward so he could kiss her.
John and Bryce watched as Rolf boldly kissed their friend right in front of them.
Marissa covered Rogers eyes because she did not know what her brother was going to do next. However, she was happy that Rolf liked Stacy enough to kiss her right in front of her cop friends.
Rolf pulled back from the kiss, looked into Stacy's eyes, and said, "Yes, I can handle her fiery personality, very well. Don't you think Stacy?"
Stacy pulled Rolf back to her, smiled for a second, before she answered, "Yes you can Rolf." Then kissed him.
John and Bryce then knew that instant that Stacy had found a tom that would not only take care of her, but would also be there for Roger. After about a minute, Bryce said, "Come on you two, John and I have a job to finish and we can't do it if you two are sucking face."
Stacy pulled back from their shared kiss, turned to look at Bryce, and shot him a very dirty look before she asked, "Why do I love you two jerks?"
"Because, we are the two brothers you always wanted, and we are the only two that would listen and put up with you Firecracker," John answered and took off running.
Stacy pulled away from Rolf and went to chase after John as she yelled, "Oh, you two are the only ones that will put up with me huh? Wait until I get my paws on you John, cause once I do, they are going to start having to call you Joanie!"
Bryce laughed as the two ran around the hospital's parking lot with smiles on their faces. He then went over to Roger and asked, "Want to turn on the siren Roger?"
"Yes Uncle Bryce!" Roger responded. "Mommy never lets me touch anything in her car when she picks me up."
"Your mother is too strict with you," Bryce said. "Luckily for you, your uncle isn't. Let's get you loaded into my car while your mother and my partner act like children for awhile longer."
Roger walked with Bryce over to his patrol car and put Roger into the passenger's seat, while Marissa helped Rolf over to the other car and helped him into it before she slid into the backseat behind her brother.
Eventually, Stacy did manage to catch John and brought him into a tight headlock and gave him a noogie between his ears. John had to admit defeat since Stacy was not going to let up until he did so. They separated and Stacy went over to Bryce's car and saw her son sitting in the front passenger's seat. She opened the door, looked at the kitten, and asked, "And just what do you think you are doing Roger?"
Roger looked back at his mother before he replied, "Uncle Bryce said it was ok."
"And if uncle Bryce said it was ok to play with his weapon, would you do it?" Stacy asked.
Roger sheepishly replied, "No mommy, I wouldn't."
"Good. Get in the back where you will be safe Roger," Stacy said.
Roger undid his seatbelt and slid out of the car. He then went to the rear passenger's door and opened it before he slipped into the back of the car.
Stacy got in the car once Roger was safely secured in the back seat. She then elbowed Bryce in the ribs and said, "I know you love Roger and would do anything for him Bryce. However, his safety comes first! He is too young to be riding in the front seat and you know it!"
Bryce was rubbing his rib cage as he said, "I was not going to let him ride in the front seat Stacy. I only let him sit there until you were finished running after my boyfriend. Now, can I get you two home and possibly, get a pizza for all of us?"
The only thing they heard was "Pizza!" Being screamed by Roger from the back of the patrol car.
Stacy rolled her eyes then said as she buckled herself into the seat, "Alright, pizza it is. But no Anchovies. The last time you ate them Roger, you were sick for days."
John slipped behind the steering wheel and said, "According to my shift commander, I am to take you two back to the academy." He started the car and put it in gear before he said, "You four cadets have the entire precinct talking about you. You four did in one day what the department has been trying to do for months. That perp you took out has been shaking down the businesses in the area for protection money for years and we have had a very hard time tracking him down."
Rolf and Marissa looked at each other for a second, then Marissa said, "We just did what was right John."
John made a right turn onto the main street, then said, "And that is why everyone is talking about you four. All of you have not graduated yet, and here you are, diving right into a situation that could have very easily gotten you all killed. I hope you know, the media is calling all for of you heroes."
"We are not heroes John, just normal everyday recruits that want to do our best," Rolf said.
"If you aren't, how do you explain that?" John asked as he pulled up to the gates of the academy.
What they all saw was a small group of cats, carrying signs stating, 'Thank You!, We 'Heart' cadets, and one particular female held up a sign stating, 'I want to have your kitten!'
Rolf's face turned beet red while Marissa and John laughed after reading that sign. Marissa then said to her brother, "Too bad you have a girlfriend now Rolf."
"Why is that Marissa?" Rolf asked.
"Now that we are heroes, you will have she-cats throwing themselves at you," Marissa replied. "I wonder if I will have toms at my feet when I walk through the city?"
"Either they will be begging for you to play with them Marissa, or running for their dear lives when they se you coming," Rolf replied.
Marissa reached over the seat and slapped Rolf in the back of the head then sat back down and crossed her arms as she looked out of the car's window.
John snickered then said, "She is right about one thing Rolf, Stacy can get quite possessive and if she noticed that sign, she would have been out of this car faster than you could react and stake her claim for you."
"Why would you say that John?" Rolf asked.
"Stacy's last tomfriend used to have girls hanging all over him. Well, Stacy caught him with another girl latched onto him and she went ballistic. She went over to them, grabbed the drinks he was carrying, and ceremoniously dumped them over his head," John replied. "Stacy broke up with him right afterwards."
"I don't have to worry about that John," Rolf said. "I have never dated more than one she-cat at a time. I guess you could call me old fashioned but whenever my friends used to parade around with their 'Girl of the Hour,' I felt ashamed. May I ask you something John?"
"Go right ahead," John replied.
"If you and Bryce are that close to Stacy, how come neither one of you dated her?" Rolf asked.
John pulled into a parking space, put the car in Park, and turned to face Rolf and Marissa before he answered, "Stacy is a great she-cat but she is not for me or Bryce. We are both gay and are in a relationship with each other."
"Doesn't that cause you any problems with being on the force?" Marissa asked.
"At first it did Marissa. However, after beating almost every other officer on the force during Field day exercises, the nay sayers didn't bother us again," John replied before he said, "The Commandant wants to see you Rolf."
"This again?" Marissa asked. "He already yelled at us today. What is he going to do, yell at the guy who actually got shot?"
"I really don't know Marissa," John said. "What I do know, he doesn't like to be waiting for too long, if you get my drift."
Marissa got out of the car and then helped Rolf get out and gave him his crutches. She walked along side of him as he hobbled along the grounds and to the front stairs leading into the Administrative building.
"Now how am I expected to climb these stairs?" Rolf asked as he looked at the cement stairs. "This place was not built for a cat with a disability. I'll have to write a letter to the Commandant to get that fixed."
"You do brother and you will be the one getting fixed!" Marissa said before she leaned forward and supported Rolf's body with hers.
They slowly made it up the stairs to the landing that led into the building and made it through the door. Then they saw the doors that opened up into the Commandant's office.
Marissa ruffled Rolf's hair then said, "Let's go brother. I have been yelled at by him already and know his bark is definitely is as bad as his bite!"
"No wonder you are still single sis," Rolf replied. "You certainly know how to make a guy feel at ease."
They entered the office and went through the main section of cubes before stopping at the Commandant's door. Marissa knocked with her left paw and waited for a reply.
A deep voice from the other side of the door said, "Enter." Before she opened the door and let her brother enter before she followed. After Marissa closed the door, she returned to Rolf's side and stood right with him and waited to be acknowledged by the Commandant.
The Commandant slowly turned around in his chair and peered right into Rolf's eyes. He then asked, "What did the doctor tell you recruit?"
"Sir, the bullet went cleanly through and I should be able to walk again in a few days," Rolf replied.
"And how long before you can return to your training?" The Commandant asked.
"I'm not sure sir," Rolf replied.
The Commandant stood up, walked out from behind his desk, and stopped right in front of Rolf. He looked down at the bandage wrapped around Rolf's leg, then said, "Do you have any idea how lucky you were not to be killed today recruit?
"Yes sir, I do," Rolf replied.
"Good. Don't get cocky out there and start thinking that since you have been wounded once and walked away unscathed that you are now immortal. A few officers developed that thought in their heads and most of them are dead!" The Commandant said before he coughed then continued, "This city considers all four of you heroes for what you have done and as much as I want to dismiss all four of you, I can not." He looked at Rolf's leg again and asked, "Where do you plan on staying while your leg heals? Since you are now on Medical leave, you can't stay here."
"I'm not really sure sir," Rolf replied. "I guess I could stay at my sister's apartment?"
"And do what brother? Fall flat on your face and wait for someone to come and pick you up? I don't think so, you need a nurse or someone to watch over you for the first few days at least,"
Marissa said.
"Then I don't have anywhere else to go, unless," Rolf said.
"Unless what brother?" Marissa asked.
Rolf looked at his sister then said, "Unless Stacy allows me to stay on her couch."
"You just met her and you expect to stay on her couch?" Marissa asked. "Awfully pretentious of you Rolf!"
"I can't go back home, mom and dad will have a fit if I stay there and they are out west, so what do you expect me to do Marissa?"
"Do you even have her phone number Rolf?" Marissa asked "You should after kissing her like that."
The Commandant couched into his paw to get the siblings attention, then asked, "Does this Stacy have a last name? I can probably look her up, if she is in one of our databases and if what your sister says is true."
Marissa turned her head to the Commandant and said, "Oh she is definitely in one of your databases, since she is an police officer in this city sir."
The Commandant returned to his desk, rested his paws on the keyboard, and asked, "What is her last name?"
"McGrady, sir," Rolf answered with a lump in his throat.
