This Story is still on Hiatus. However, this chapter was dying to get out.
MisaRae, I know I drive you insane sometimes. But that is what siblings do.
I'm going to be publishing something special for the holidays. It might not be here since its an original work!
That is if the people in the suits let me so what I want.
Over the next two days, Esfir managed to wrangle her way into the Principal's position at the local Elementary school. She read all of the profiles of the teachers serving under her and read that two of the teachers were very close to retirement. 'If I can get these two to agree to an early retirement, I can get Galina and Nadia to replace them. It would make protecting Gwendlyn so much easier with those two as teachers.' She thought as she put the files down on her desk and picked up the phone.
Katerina was playing in the backyard with Gwendlyn and Evelyn, while Tina directed her father, Mark, and his brothers on where to place the furniture when she heard her phone ring. She retrieved the phone from her pocket and answered, "Da."
"Commander, I have a plan to get Galina and Nadia hired as teachers. I just need a little more money to entice two older teachers to retire," Esfir said as she crossed her legs and spun in her chair to face the window behind her.
"How much money are we talking about Esfir?" Katerina asked.
"Probably a years salary, each," Esfir responded.
Katerina turned her head to watch Gwendlyn happily play with Evelyn for a minute, then she returned her gaze back and answered, "It will be done as you requested Esfir. Don't disappoint me!"
"Never Commander! In the short time we have been staying with your family, we have grown close to Gwendlyn. We will not fail you or her!" Esfir said as she snapped out of the chair and stood at attention.
"I expect nothing less from you Esfir!" Katerina said right before she disconnected the call.
Esfir knew she had the explicit trust of the Commander and was not going to let her or Gwendlyn down. She sat back down and looked out of the window again as she held the two profiles in her paws.
The move into her house was going very well and fast considering the four very strong toms doing the hard work. However, as Tina feared, her father and Mark were too much alike and were trying to prove to the other who was stronger. Tina rolled her eyes as Mark and her father picked up three large boxes each. "If you two drop and break anything, you are paying for it!" Tina exclaimed.
Gary peered around the boxes he was carrying, smirked at his daughter, then asked, "Would I intentionally drop something of yours Tina?"
"No, you wouldn't dad. But you are very easily distracted by mom and would you please stop trying to best Mark? I know you both are very strong, but watching both of you try to out lift the other with mine and Katerina's furniture is only going to wind up with something broken!" She replied.
"Tina, dear sister. Your father and I can handle a simple little competition without breaking anything," Mark commented as he walked down the ramp of the moving truck carrying his boxes as well as a table lamp balanced on top of the last box. However, as he stepped off of the ramp and proceeded to turn onto the curb, he tripped and the lamp fell from the stack of boxes onto the concrete walk, breaking into three pieces. Mark put the boxes down on the ground, flashed Tina a smile, then said, "Oops."
Tina's was biting her bottom lip so hard it almost drew blood. Her gaze narrowed at Mark and as she started walking towards him, obviously pissed, she spat, "Oops! That's all you can say? Katerina, Gwendlyn, and I live on two Sergeant's salaries which doesn't go far. And when I beg for you and my father to stop acting like kittens so something doesn't wind up broken, you end up doing the one thing I feared would happen!" She grabbed one of the boxes so she could stand on it to get into Mark's face, then asked, "Give me one reason why I shouldn't tie your tail in a knot!?"
"'Cause you love me sis?" Mark answered.
"Love is not going to replace my lamp, dear brother!" Tina answered right before she attacked Mark.
Mark managed to catch Tina mid flight in his left arm and carried her towards the back yard.
However, Tina managed to wiggle herself out of his grasp and as her feet hit the ground, she spun around, grabbed Mark's tail, and gave it a firm yank.
"Ow! That really hurt Tina!" Mark said as he rubbed his backside.
"It was supposed to, dear brother!" Tina responded.
Gwendlyn appeared from around the corner of the house and hugged Tina before she asked, "Mommy, why are you and uncle Mark fighting?"
Tina picked up her daughter in her arms, kissed her right cheek, then answered, "We aren't fighting Gwen, we were just having.." she turned her head towards Mark and asked, "What would you call what we were doing brother?"
Mark went over to both of them, picked both of them up in his arms, and answered, "A minor disagreement I think is what you are looking for, sis." Mark then kissed both of them on the cheek.
Nadia, Galina, and Inna ran out of the house when they heard Tina and Mark yelling at each other with their pistols stuffed in the waistbands of their pants.
Galina, stopped right in front of Mark and Tina with her right paw resting on the but of her pistol, and asked, "Is everything alright?"
"Yes, everything is fine Galina," Tina responded. "Mark and I were having a minor disagreement over a broken lamp."
Galina relaxed her body and removed her paw from her weapon. She then said, "My sister and I have to prepare for school in a few days. So, if you would not mind to keep it down to a dull roar, Nadia and I have to finish studying."
Nadia rolled her eyes at her older sister, then asked, "Do we have to Galina? We are teaching First Grade kittens after all, how much more prep work do we have to do?"
Galina turned her head to face her younger sister and narrowed her eyes to slits before she responded, "Do you really want to get on Esfir's bad side Nadia?"
"Of course not!" Nadia answered.
Galina reached out with her right arm, grabbed her sister's left arm, then said, "Then we had better get back to work." Galina then dragged her sister back into the house to continue preparing for class.
Gwendlyn waited for the front door closed before she turned to her mother and asked, "I'm going into first grade, does that mean Galina and Nadia will be my teachers?"
"I think so, if Esfir has anything to say about it," Tina answered. "Come on, we need to check on how much damage Mark and my father caused inside the house."
Tina, Gwendlyn, Katerina, and Evelyn entered the house. The living room didn't appear to have too much out of place, but as they traveled through the rest of the house, they discovered more and more stuff out of place as well as holes in the walls that weren't there before Gary, Mark, and his brothers starting moving the furniture into the house.
"Are you kidding me!?" Tina asked out loud. "Our walls look like Swiss Cheese! What did the guys do to our house!?"
Katerina closed the distance between her and Tina before she laid a gentle paw on her shoulder and said, "Don't worry too much, we can patch the holes on the walls, no?"
"Yes we can patch the holes, that shouldn't be there in the first place!" Tina said on the verge of screaming.
Evelyn looked at the damage the guys caused before she turned to Tina and said, "I can fix this easily." She lifted her paws high over her head and in a flash, the walls were pristine once again. Evelyn lowered her paws back to her side, then said, "Good as new."
Katerina, Tina, and Gwendlyn were completely amazed with the power Evelyn had at her command. While Inna instantly thought of Evelyn as a threat to Gwendlyn's safety. She pulled out her gun from the waistband of her pants, pointed it at Evelyn, and ordered, "Get out of here and don't ever return! I will not have you endanger my charge!"
"Inna! Lower your weapon now or you will deal with me!" Katerina ordered her subordinate. "Evelyn is a guest in my home and will be treated as such!"
Inna lifted her head to face a very angry Katerina but did not move the gun as requested. "Commander, this girl has the power to severely hurt your daughter, do you want someone with that type of power any where near her?" Inna asked as she pulled back on the gun's slide, cocking the weapon.
"Inna, Evelyn is my friend. I know what she is capable of doing. If I'm not afraid of her, why should you be?" Gwendlyn innocently asked her protector.
Inna looked down the barrel of her gun at Evelyn's smiling back at her and wiggling her fingers on her left paw which was raised to the height of her face. Inna lowered her gun so it was now aimed at the floor, slowly pulled the trigger while her right thumb held onto the hammer so the gun wouldn't fire, then put the pistol back into the waistband of her pants. "I apologize Commander, the last magic user I encountered killed both of my parents and my sisters while I helplessly watched when I was a very young girl. I will not let another one take another that I care about."
Katerina walked over to where Inna was standing, lifted her gaze so she could look Inna in their eyes, then said, "You had better get used to seeing them more often Inna. Evelyn is only one of the magic users in our lives and I will not tolerate having you; or any of my other subordinates pulling a weapon on them. Is that understood?" Katerina snapped.
Inna looked straight ahead of her towards the wall with her arms tightly at her sides. Then responded, "Crystal Commander."
Katerina was not convinced that Inna's actions would not occur again, despite her orders. With her tail whipping back and forth, she said, "Inna, as much as I want to believe you will carry out my orders, I can not. So, I'm commanding you to spend the rest of the day, playing with Evelyn and my daughter without this." Katerina reached behind Inna and removed the pistol from her pants. She now held the weapon on her right paw, twirling it on her index finger right in front on Inna as she icily continued, "You will play nicely, Da?"
Inna heard the tone in her commander's voice and felt a wave of cold creep though her body. She only heard her use that particular tone once before, and the cat on the other end didn't fair out that well. Inna gulped, then responded, "Da, commander."
"Good!" Was all that Katerina said as she spun on the right heel of her shoe and walked back to Tina.
Tina grabbed Katerina and pulled her out of the room so she could, talk to her alone. And once she closed the door, separating them from the rest of the house, she turned to face her fiancée and asked, "I thought that Turmoil was long gone Katerina?"
"She is Tina, I've changed," Katerina answered.
"Then what was that with Inna back there?" Tina asked as her as she placed her paws on her hips.
Katerina quickly realized that she was slipping back into the role of Turmoil, which was something she desperately didn't want to occur. "I really don't know Tina. I don't want to be Turmoil again. However, they are my subordinates. I can't let them think I'm soft."
"Do you want to have your squadron respect you, or fear you Kat?" Tina asked.
"I want them to respect me of course," Katerina answered.
Tina went over to her and as she placed a gentle paw on Katerina's shoulder, she said, "Then earn it. Treat them the way you want to be treated and they will respect you, rather than fear you."
"You're right Tina, I'll apologize to Inna after she plays with Evelyn and Gwendlyn. I might even join them," Katerina said.
Tina hugged Katerina tightly as she said, "That's the she-cat I fell in love with."
The rest of the move went off without a hitch. Even Mark and Gary stopped trying to out lift the other and worked together to move a very large couch into the living room.
Finally, the move was complete. Tina and Katerina inspected their new home and was very satisfied with the results while Gwendlyn, Evelyn, and Inna played in the back yard. Both of them stepped out onto the back porch where the four guys were resting, drinking a cold refreshing drink, completely shirtless.
"Aw come on, just who are you guys trying to impress?" Tina asked.
Kevin lowered his drink to the table on his left, turned his body to face Tina, then answered, "No one. It's just very hot out here. Besides, you know my girlfriend and she will turn me into sashimi if I even looked at another she-cat."
"Kevin dear brother, Felicia has you whipped. Now Jasmine let's me do what I want to a point. She doesn't care if I look at another she-cat, as long as I don't stray," Sean said before he took a pull from his drink.
Mark turned his body to the left so he could face his younger brother, and asked, "You're dating Jasmine?"
"Yep," Sean answered as he put his drink down on a plastic table to his right. "We hit it off at your wedding and we have been seeing each other ever since."
Mark got up from the chair he was sitting in and walked over to Sean. He stared down and him with his arms crossed, and said, "Jasmine is a very good friend of mine Sean. You had better treat her right. You don't exactly have a good track record with she-cats."
Sean knew exactly what his brother was talking about. He had developed a reputation for dating a she-cat long enough for her to sleep with him, then he'd leave her. However, since he started dating Jasmine, he'd changed. Since after the second date, he felt something different about Jasmine. Something he could not explain, but he liked it. Sean told up directly in front of Mark, and responded, "I know what I'm known for Mark and at first, that was all I wanted from her. Then we went out on a second date. Sometime during that date, I started feeling very comfortable around her and I liked it. I was hoping she would invite me in when we arrived back at her apartment. Instead, she kissed me rather deeply before she entered her apartment. I simply stood in her hallway like a zombie for a few minutes before I left. I didn't sleep well that night, I kept thinking about how beautiful Jasmine is, especially her eyes. I'm not saying I'm in love with her, but I feel real good when I'm with her and I don't want to screw it up by sleeping with her!"
"Good, you're my brother and I want to see you happy. If being with Jasmine does that, then keep seeing her. But if you hurt her and I find out about it, I will not hesitate to beat you to a pulp!" Mark responded.
"Not planning on it big bro," Sean said as he sat back down. He quickly looked at his watch, then asked, "Are we done? I need to head home to shower for my date with Jasmine."
"You are not going to stick around Sean?" Gary asked. "My daughter is going to throw one heck of a party in appreciation for helping them move into their house. From what I overheard from my wife, Katerina went all out."
Sean lifted his body from the chair he was sitting in, grabbed his black t-shirt from the back of the chair, and after she pulled it on his body, he answered, "As fun as the party sounds, I'm taking Jasmine to the fair tonight. She wanted to ride the new coaster, so I'm taking her. I'm going to blind fold her so she has no idea where we are going until we get there."
"Just remember Sean, her hearing is quite good. She might figure out where you are by sound alone," Mark added.
"I didn't think of that. I'll have to play it by ear then," Sean replied and as he started leaving the yard, he said, "Thank Katerina and Tina for me, I'll see you all sometime in the future." With that, he left the yard.
Kevin lowered his drink to the table on his right as Sean left the yard. He turned to his brother and said, "Sean is going to have his paws full with Jasmine."
Mark turned his head to the right to face his brother, then asked, "Why do you say that Kev?"
"Felicia and I went on a Double date with Sean and Jasmine while you were on your honeymoon. Let's just say that Jasmine had him wrapped around her little finger the entire night,"
Chance and Jake were working on the TurboKat, finishing up the last of the repairs while Callie, Felina, and Lisa worked on the Cyclotrons.
Since Callie was carrying three fetuses, her stomach was quite pronounced even at the end of the first trimester. She rubbed her stomach and focused on the three growing girls inside of her. Her vision showed her three daughters, all of them healthy and growing. She smiled as she thought of being able to hold them for the first time.
Felina and Lisa felt very warm and turned to face the source. They both noticed Callie, bathed in a glow with her paws resting on her expanding stomach. "Callie, we could rent you out as a portable heater. What has you so entranced?"
Callie didn't remove focus at all as she said, "Just checking on my little girls Felina."
Felina and Lisa stopped what they were doing, put their tools down on the floor, and walked over to Callie. They each put a paw on Callie's, hoping they could get a glimpse of what Callie was seeing.
And they did. Callie's vision extended to her friends. They both saw the exact same thing that Callie did. The three kittens, curled up in tight balls with their tails in between their legs.
"They are so adorable!" Lisa exclaimed. "I so want to hold my kitten."
Callie remembered a news story where MegaKat General in conjunction with the orphanage Gwendlyn was staying was holding an adoption drive. "I have an idea that will allow you to hold a kitten as well as helping Gwen's Orphanage."
Felina removed her paw from Callie then asked, "What did you have in mind"
Callie removed her paws from her stomach and made her way over to a phone connected to a secure line that could not be traced. As she started dialing, she answered, "You'll see, Caliber."
Over at Kats Eye News, Anne Gora was typing up her script for her report on the six PM News cast. Her phone started ringing and she turned towards it to see who was calling before picking it up. The caller ID simply read, 'Unavailable.' Curiosity got the better of her since the call would not transfer to voice mail. She picked up the receiver in her tight paw and brought it up to her right ear. Then answered, "Who is this and how did you manage to get past our phone system?"
"Anne, this is Empress. I need a favor," Callie said.
Anne spun around in her chair so she could get up from behind her desk and close her office's door. Once the door was closed, she asked, "What do you need Empress?"
"There is an adoption drive being held tomorrow at MegaKat General tomorrow and I want you and your camera there to cover the event," Callie answered.
"That's not news Empress. I need more for me to get the producers to go along with this," Anne responded.
"There is more Anne, what if I told you that the SWAT Kats are going to be there? Would that convince your producers?" Callie asked.
Anne almost dropped her phone since this was going to be the story of the week. She brought the phone back to her ear, then asked, "Why would they do that?"
Callie turned around to look at her friends expanding stomachs as well as her own, then answered, "Can I let you in on a little secret Anne?"
"I'm a reporter Empress, spilling news is what I do," Anne answered.
"That is what I figured Anne. Actually, there is no way we can keep this a secret anyway. What of I told you that Caliber, Pirouette, and I are pregnant?"
Anne dropped the phone to the floor in complete shock. Empress had just told her that three of the SWAT Kats were pregnant! This was Oscar winning news in her book. As she picked up her phone from the floor, she said, "Even if my bosses don't want to do this story, I'm doing it!" Anne brought the phone back to her ear, then asked, "I'll be there, but how does your pregnancy tie into the drive?"
Callie didn't want to reveal Gwendlyn's existence to the world since the Black Diamonds were still after her. "Let's just say that Sniper and Havoc have a vested interest in this particular orphanage Anne," Callie answered.
"Sniper and Havoc? Do I get an exclusive interview with them?" Anne asked.
"You have to ask them. See you tomorrow, bye," Callie said before she hung up the phone. She turned to her friends and said, "Call the rest of SWAT, we all have a date with a bunch of kittens tomorrow!"
After Katerina watched Inna having fun with Gwendlyn and Evelyn from the back porch, she goes over to them and asks, "Inna, can I talk to you for a minute, please?"
Inna looked up to her Commander and saw a very remorseful face on the she-cat which had the ability to strike fear into anyone with a single glance. As she rose from the floor where she was playing with her new found young friends, she answered, "Da, Commander." But before she left with Katerina, she turned back to Gwendlyn and Evelyn and said, "Don't let the tea get cold. I'll be right back."
After Inna crossed the yard with Katerina, she turned and face Katerina, waiting to be either sanctioned for her behavior or even worse.
"Inna," Katerina started as she turned and faced an old tree, not knowing how to start. She clenched her paws into tight fists then turned around to face Inna, and continued, "I've known you and Esfir since I started recruiting for my squadron. I trust both of you with mine and my family's lives without question. However, your actions earlier could have severely injured my daughter. I had no idea your parents were killed by a magic user when you were a young girl." Once again, she had to pause to gather her thoughts before she said or did something she would regret. Katerina turned and faced the tree again before she asked, "Can I trust you, my friend; to protect not only Gwendlyn, but all who enter this house, no matter if they are magic users or not?"
Inna nervously took two steps forward in order to stand right behind Katerina. "Commander, I apologize for my actions earlier. My anger and prejudice against magic users blinded me to see past the ability and look at the cat wielding the power. Evelyn is a wonderful true friend to Gwendlyn and now me. In the short time I have been playing with her and your daughter, she has taught me that not all who are magic users are like those who took my parents away and if Gwendlyn can see Evelyn for who she really is, then why can't I." Her right paw rose from her side and rested on her Commander's right shoulder, before answering Katerina's question. "To answer your question Commander, da. I will give my life to protect all those who enter this house."
