I still don't know where this story is going, but its about to take a turn. All of these bright days are about to turn dark for our heroes and heroines. However, good always triumphs over bad right? We'll find out together.

This was not supposed to be a Valentine's Day chapter but it looks like its going to be since I probably won't be able to post until after then.

To my little sister, you have made this story what it is and constantly encouraged me to learn and better myself. I can never fully state in words either in written form or spoken how much I value you and what you have taught me.

Oh, for those who thought Bast is gone, hardly. She and Ptah are watching everything occurring. Wait and see...

It was early in the morning at the Higgins' house and Spencer was restless since Evelyn was spending the night over at Gwendlyn's He didn't like being apart from her; period. Spencer quickly fell into his role as her protector and familiar and despite is original protests, he loved his new role as well as his new family.

He rose from the floor beside Evelyn's bed and walked over to her window. As he looked out into the moonlit sky, he asked himself, "I wonder what my princess is doing without her knight by her side?" He turned his head to the left to gaze at the clock on her night table and read it was 4:45 in the morning. He hoped she was still peacefully asleep. However, as her protector, not being within earshot of the little girl he fell head-over-heals for didn't sit well with him. Spencer tested his wings for a second before he said, "One way to find out." And took off into the morning sky.

Spencer always loved going for a flight early in the morning. Between the world below him being almost completely still, and the taste of a new day on his lips, to him, it was the best time to fly without a care in the world.

He felt the sun starting to rise on his left and turned his head to watch as the sun rose up from the horizon.

Not paying attention to where he was flying, he collided with another object. For a second, he thought he flew into the side of a cliff or a building. As he shook his head, his vision focused on one of the most beautiful sights he had ever seen. Before him was another black puma with white feathery wings. However, this puma was a female, and quite a looker too. She opened her eyes and Spencer almost stopped breathing. Her eyes was this bright amber color that burned into his soul. His heart pounded in his chest the longer he looked into those amber pools.

"Are you going to stare at me, or are you going to tell me your name?" She asked.

Her voice sounded like a symphony to him, one that he wanted to hear over and over again. Quickly realizing he hasn't answered her, Spencer responded, "My name is Spencer, and can I make the assumption that your name is Goddess?"

She instantly saw through his ploy and rolled her eyes at his lame pick-up line. Her eyes focused on the male in front of her. Between his strong upper body and jaw, his golden eyes, and long legs, she decided he had potential, as long as he could keep his paw out of his mouth long enough to have a decent conversation. "Sorry, my name is Tara, not Goddess Spencer. Where are you from? I haven't seen another one of our kind in years." Tara asked.

Spencer let his eyes roam over her body and really liked what he saw. No, she didn't have Meridyth's or Helen's curvy forms, but according to him, she was perfection. "My new family lives about two miles due south from here Tara."

She flew a little closer to Spencer, feeling a little more comfortable around him, then asked, "New family? Where is your old family? Did they throw you out, like mine did?"

Spencer's heart fell as he posed the question to himself, 'Why would anyone throw out such a beautiful female?' Spencer sighed as he lowered his head to face the ground, then replied, "I've always been alone ever since I left home. I was always the wild one, the one that no matter how hard my parents tried to get me into a good home, I would make some comment which would end up with me back out on the streets. No family wanted a familiar who spoke his mind, and hit on the she-cat of the house. I ended up in Alberta Canada, wandering the meadows, looking for companionship wherever I could find it." He lifted his head back up to face her and continued, "After four years, Queen Callista contacted me and offered me a chance to be a familiar and protector to this adorable little girl. At first, I only wanted to leave and go back to my old life. However, after I met Evelyn, something told me to protect her with every fiber of my being. We quickly became friends and now, I can't see myself without Evelyn and her family in it."

"That's so sweet Spencer," Tara said. "My last family was full of boys who were almost teenagers. Being the only female in the house wasn't easy to say the least. All of the rude jokes about the female anatomy really grated on me and one day I had enough. I told the father that he and his sons were being disrespectful to every female in existence. He didn't take that too well and kicked me out of the house. I've been on my own ever since."

"I'm so sorry Tara, you didn't deserve to be in that situation. Hey, I I have an idea, why don't you come with me and meet Evelyn? She is so nice, I can guarantee you two will become friends," Spencer said.

"Are you asking me to meet your family?" Tara asked.

"Yes I am, that is if you want to Tara. I.. kind of like you," Spencer said.

Tara turned around and flew away from him, just far enough so she had a head start. "I'll tell you what Spencer, I'll come with you on one condition."

"What would that be; my beauty?" Spencer asked.

Tara giggled for a second, then answered, "I'll go with you, if you can keep up with me, flyboy." With a mighty flap of her wings, she took off, leaving Spencer behind her.

"Oh, its on Tara," Spencer said as he flew as hard as he could to catch up with her.

He eventually did catch up and flew a barrel roll around her. "Caught up with you Tara."

Tara silently admitted, she was starting to have fun. "Yes, you did Spencer. There is a spot not that far from here where the view of the sun rising is quite spectacular. Care to watch it with me, Spencer?" She asked, silently hoping he would say yes.

"Are you asking me out on a date?" Spencer asked as his tail stood straight out from his body.

"Yes, I am. That is if you can close your mouth. I won't kiss a guy with flies in his mouth," she said, leaving him speechless once again.

They landed on a cliff that faced the east. They folded their legs under themselves and for some reason, they each draped a wing over the other.

Sub-consciously, they brought their bodies closer together and before they knew what was happening, they were touching.

Tara felt so good and warm, she rested her head on Spencer's left shoulder which caused him to turn his head and look down at her. Once again, his heart pounded in his chest and he rested his head against hers.

"This is nice Spencer, I feel like I can stay like this forever," Tara said.

"I agree Tara, this is very nice. I've never felt this way when I was with another female before," Spencer said.

Tara lifted her head to gaze into Spencer's eyes, then asked, "Spencer, what are you feeling and please, be honest with me?"

Spencer got up and folded his wing tight against his body as he walked a few feet away from her. "Tara, you make me feel like a giddy cub again. Being with you feels so right, just like when I met Evelyn and her family took me in. Being near you makes me feel like I can take on the world, but also like a nervous kitten, fearing what was going to happen next." He turned to face the rising sun, looked at it for a few seconds, then asked, "How do you feel, when you are with me?"

Tara lowered her head to her front paws, then answered, "I feel scared when I'm with you."

Spencer turned around and walked back over to Tara. Then lowered himself back to the ground before he said, "You have no reason to be scared of me Tara. I would never hurt you or give you a reason to be frightened of me."

"And that is the exact reason why I'm scared Spencer," she said. "Every time I gave my heart to another, it always ended badly, for me. I'm scared of giving you a chance of being with me, only to have you leave and throw me to the side."

"Why would I do that Tara?" He asked. "I already said I liked you, so why would I throw you away?"

"Cause I'm an opinionated, stubborn, not afraid to speak my mind female Spencer! No male I've ever met could put up with me for more than a few hours before they turned tail and left me alone again!" She started to sob and continued, "I'm tired of being alone Spencer, I want a family that is going to love me and care about me. I want what my mother has, someone to spend the rest of her life with that puts her needs above his, someone who cares for me, and someone to love for the rest of my life."

Spencer nuzzled her head with his own, then said, "Tara, I've never been one to hold my tongue either. I always spoke my mind, which managed to get me in more trouble than I care to state. I also want those things as well. My mother and father loved each other and I can only assume, they are still together in the after life. My brothers wanted nothing to do with me after my parents passed. They went off, had families of their own, while I was alone. Like you, I want a family to love me and care for me. Queen Callista told me that there was someone out there for me, and after meeting you, I think she is right." He got up and walked a few feet away from her and turned towards the rising sun before he asked, "Tara, you and I are kindred spirits. Won't you come and live with me and the Higgins and become part of our family?"

"Is that what you really want Spencer? Do you honestly think your family will accept me?" She nervously asked.

Spencer turned around so fast to face her it was almost like a gun shot going off. He came over to her just as fast, then nuzzled her again before he answered, "Michael, Helen, and Evelyn are going to love you Tara. You are going to fit right in and as far as what I want." He got real nervous as he prepared to lay it all on the line and tell her how he really felt about her. "Tara, I feel real good being near you. I'm not saying I love you but I really like this feeling I get when I'm with you. Please, give my family, and me a shot."

"Alright, I will under one condition," Tara said as she rose to her feet.

"Name it, beautiful."

"You and I finish watching the sun rise, as we were earlier. I like having you close to me Spencer," she said.

A smile crossed Spencer's face then he said, "You've got it Tara." He went over to her, wrapped his left wing around her, and cuddled into her sleek body before closing his eyes and letting out a deep purr which reverberated through her body.

Tara's right wing wrapped around Spencer's body and after he purred, so did she.

They both lowered their bodies to the floor and let the rising sun, bathe them in its warmth.

Tara felt so warm and safe, that she fell asleep.

Spencer watched as she slept beside him and took a chance. He pressed his mouth to hers, for a quick kiss, then said, "There is someone out there for everyone, and I think I've found that someone for me. You may have had a rough life Tara. However, as I long as I live, you will never be alone again." As much as he wanted to sleep next to her, he didn't. Spencer spent the next few hours, being content with having Tara next to him and watching out for anyone that would disturb his sleeping angel.

Tara woke up a couple of hours later and as she opened her eyes, she stared directly into Spencer's. "Did you watch over me while I slept Spencer?"

"Yes, I did Tara. Did you sleep well?" He asked.

"I haven't slept that well in a very long time. Would you mind moving your wing? I'd like to get up and stretch out my body before we head off to meet your family," she said.

Spencer reluctantly removed his wing from around her and tucked it tight to his body. He watched as Tara rose to her paws and stretched out her lithe form. Spencer turned his head away from her before he did something that he wanted to do, but was not ready for yet.

"I'm ready Spencer," she said before she realized he was looking away from her. Tara went over to Spencer and rubbed his right cheek against her left cheek, then asked, "Why are you looking away from me? Did I do something wrong?"

"No, not at all Tara. If anything, I'm the one who is thinking about doing something wrong," Spencer said.

"Spencer, please look at me," Tara said.

Spencer turned his head to face the female he liked and as he looked into her eyes again, his heart once again raced in his chest.

"If we have a shot at a decent relationship, then you have to be honest with me. Tell me what you were thinking," she said.

"Tara, after you fell asleep, I kissed you. I wanted to sleep with you and call you my mate. My feelings for you are so strong, that I think I've fallen over the deep end. Tara, will you be part of my family?" He asked.

Tara was shocked that he asked her to be part of his family without her meeting them first. She figured that she would be alone for the rest of her life, roaming the globe in search of someone to care for her and never finding him. Now a male she had just met had asked her to be part of his family and despite what her heart was telling her to do, her mind was telling her to do something else. "Spencer, I thought I felt the kiss of another while I was asleep as well as the warmth of another seeping into my body and to be perfectly honest, I liked it, more than I should have." She walked towards the edge of the bluff, looked out at the horizon, then answered, "Spencer, if the Higgins will have me, I would like to be part of your family." Tara leaped off of the ledge and hovered, looking back at the speechless puma, then asked, "Are you going to introduce your girlfriend to your family or are you going to look at my tail all day?"

Spencer's tail was now slapping against the ground and had a smile on his face the instant Tara called herself his girlfriend. He took a running leap off of the bluff and flew to her, then kissed her again and said, "If you wouldn't mind, I'd like to do both. You have a delectable looking tail Tara."

Tara rolled her eyes and rapidly turned away from him, slapping her tail across his face as she flew a few feet away from him. She looked past her left shoulder back at Spencer, lifting her tail high and said, "I don't mind at all Spencer, and might I say, you have a great tail as well."

Spencer flew to her side, kissed her again which was something he would never get tired of, then said, "Let's go and meet Evelyn and her friend Gwendlyn, they are going to love you Tara."

The new found lovers flew down the shore line towards the street that lead towards Katerina and Tina's house. They turned and flew high above the street so there wouldn't be seen by the cats who were out for morning runs or walks.

Spencer found the backyard of the house Evelyn was staying and motioned his head to Tara to follow his lead and went into a steep dive.

Tara followed his lead and went into s steep dive towards the ground as well.

Spencer pulled out of the dive, landed on his paws, and waited for Tara to join him.

Tara landed a few feet from Spencer, folded her wings against her body, then said, "That was amazing! I haven't done that in years!"

Spencer looked into her eyes again and saw them glowing with excitement. "Come on, let's meet my mistress. I know she's going to love you."

Spencer led Tara onto the back porch. He looked through the glass in the backdoor and saw Evelyn sitting at the counter with Gwendlyn sitting to her right and Katerina working at the stove. He lightly scratched at the door with his right front paw to gain Evelyn's attention.

Evelyn heard the light scratching on the backdoor and turned her head to see what was scratching at the door. She noticed her knight on the other side of the door, smiled, and jumped off of the stool to open the door and greet her knight.

As the door opened, Spencer's tail swung back and forth, in anticipation of being with his princess again.

Evelyn wrapped her arms around Spencer's neck and kissed his right cheek before she asked, "Spencer, why are you here?"

"I couldn't stand being apart from my princess any longer and there is someone I want you to meet," Spencer said.

Evelyn looked around Spencer and noticed a female winged-puma sitting behind him. She let go of Spencer and walked around him towards Tara. She knelt in front of Tara and asked, "And who are you?"

Tara looked at the blonde curls that adorned the little girl kneeling in front of her. She felt a pang of nervousness wash over her as she wondered if Evelyn would accept her into her family. "Tara," she said on shaky breath. "My name is Tara."

Evelyn heard and felt Tara's apprehension wash over her. She smiled at Tara, then embraced her tightly. "You don't have anything to be nervous about Tara," She said to her before whispering into Tara's right ear, "I sense that you like my knight, you are going to be very good for him and he really likes you already."

"He does?" Tara said as she wrapped her wings around Evelyn. "I guess I'm going to have to reel him in and make him mine."

"I don't think you are going to have a problem Tara," Evelyn said.

Gwendlyn was standing on the back porch watching Evelyn hug a beautiful female puma with gorgeous white feathery wings. She cautiously left the porch and went over to Spencer, then asked, "Who's your friend Spencer?"

Spencer was also watching Evelyn hug who he hoped, someday would be his mate. "Gwendlyn, that gorgeous female is Tara. She is someone I hope will be part of my family," he answered. Then said more softly, "And will bear my cubs."

"Spencer, you really like her that much?" Gwendlyn asked.

"Gwen, can I let you in on a little secret?" Spencer asked without removing his eyes from Tara.

"Of course you can Spencer," Gwendlyn answered, drawing closer to her friend's familiar.

"I think I'm falling in love with Tara," Spencer said.

Gwendlyn threw her arms around Spencer's neck, cuddled him close, then said, "I'm happy for you Spencer."

Inna, Elizaveta, and Esfir as well as Katerina came out onto the porch. And as soon as Inna saw the two pumas, she jumped into Elizaveta's arms and screamed.

Elizaveta struggled trying to hold the she-cat that was much larger than her. Plus was fearless in the face of danger. "Inna! Get off of me this instant and that's an order!" She commanded.

"Niet! Those two are not of this world!"

Katerina figured she had better put an end to this before Inna decided to climb a tree and not come down until Spencer and who ever the female was were gone. "Inna, stop this foolishness! Spencer is Evelyn's protector!"

Inna turned her head to look at the male puma which Gwendlyn was hugging tight. She slowly climbed off of her Second-in-Command who was shooting daggers at her subordinate with her eyes. After Inna's feet hit the ground, she slowly went over to Spencer and Gwendlyn.

"Inna, why are you afraid of Spencer and Tara?" Gwendlyn asked her protector.

"I've never seen two such as them before," Inna said.

Spencer separated from Gwendlyn and stood in front of Inna. He lifted himself up onto his rear legs and placed his front paws on her shoulders. "You have nothing to fear from us. By the way, you are quite good looking." Spencer said.

Inna pulled back from Spencer, dropping him to the ground, then growled at him, ready to attack.

Spencer took up a defensive position and extended his wings out. "Look lady, I was only trying to make you feel more comfortable around me and my girlfriend. I meant nothing by my harmless flirting. So calm down!"

Inna didn't calm down as Spencer hoped. She instead attacked Spencer, forcing him to the ground and pinning him. "No one dares to make a pass at me in jest and gets away with it! Not even Evelyn's protector!" She snarled.

Tara broke free from Evelyn and pushed Inna off of Spencer. She extended her wings just enough to make her displeasure known and said through a series of snarls, "Back off! He already apologized for making a pass at you!" She lowered her gaze to Spencer, then continued, "Which he shouldn't have done!"

"Tara, you know I'm a flirt already," Spencer started to say but was instantly interrupted by Tara and Inna yelling, "Can it!"

Tara folded her wings against her body, looked up at Inna, then asked, "Care to head inside with our friends and have a little girl talk?"

"Da, it would be my pleasure Tara. Let's leave the Smooth Talker out here to his thoughts," Inna replied and walked into the house with Tara followed by the rest of the girls.

Spencer lowered himself to the grassy surface, rested his head on his front paws, and as he looked into the kitchen at all of the happy faces, he asked himself, "What have I gotten myself into?" He then happened to see Tara laughing right along with everyone else, probably at his expense, then answered his own question, "A whole lot of good is what I've gotten into." He lifted his gaze to the skies, and pleaded, "Bast, you and I have not exactly been on good terms for quite sometime. But I have a favor to ask, please don't let me screw this up. Tara is everything I have ever wanted in a mate, and more. She compliments me perfectly and I think I love her already. I don't think I can live without her being by my side." Spencer lowered his head to look into the kitchen again, then said, "Tara, you and I are in for one wild ride."

Spencer felt the sun's warm rays heating his body and decided to let nature take its course. He yawned, rested his head again, and fell asleep with a smile on his face.
