Seth smiled at the sound of Journey's motorcycle outside of his house. They hadn't agreed to her visiting tonight but she was always welcome unannounced. He was thinking about asking her to move in with him soon. Maybe tonight would be the night for that question.

He looked out of his window and frowned at seeing her not wearing her helmet. She always wore it and she often made fun of him when he reminded her. She called him cute when he worried about her safety. Probably because her wearing a helmet was the least of her safety concerns. Something he already knew everything about but he still decided to continue this relationship with her.

She got off her motorcycle and he took her in through the darkness. He could see something was wrong. She ran up to his front door with her ponytail of long, straight, dark brown hair flying in the wind behind her.

"Seth!" She screamed.

He ran to her and looked into her dark blue eyes. He already knew what was wrong before she opened her mouth. Only one thing would cause her to act this way.

"If I ask you to jump on my bike with me and leave right this second, would you?" She asked.
"Finn?" He asked.
"Yes," she answered.
"Fuck!" He growled.
"I don't have time to discuss this. I'm leaving. He's close. I can feel it. He found me so I'm sure he already knows all about you and will show up here in a matter of minutes," she said. "Are you in or out? I won't blame you for staying. He won't hurt you once we're apart. It's me he wants."

He walked up to her, pulled her into his arms, and gave her a quick kiss.

"I fucking love you, Journey," he said. "I'm in."
"Let's go," she said.

He didn't even have time to lock his door or grab anything. They ran out to her motorcycle and got on.

"No helmets?" He asked.
"I didn't have time. I saw him walking up my driveway and I ran to the garage. Once he let himself into the house, I floored it out of there," she said.
"I fucking hate him!" He growled.
"Me too," she said. "Hold on."

Her motorcycle roared to life and he held on to her while she drove them both out of there. He had never met her ex boyfriend Finn but he knew all he needed to know about Finn, and he knew he hated Finn with a burning passion for hurting her.

She headed towards the empty mountain roads where they could drive in peace. They drove for an hour and a half before she finally turned off the road and drove down a narrow gravel road with tall bushes and trees on both sides. The road swung left and he stared at a small cabin that came into sight. She parked her motorcycle and they both got off.

"Who owns this place?" He asked.
"I don't know. I just know it's been empty for many years," she said.
"How long have you had this escape plan?" He asked.
"I always make sure to have several escape plans whenever I move somewhere new. He's always after me and I always need to run. I wouldn't have stayed around here for this long if it hadn't been for you," she said.

She stepped closer and kissed him.

"I love you, Seth. Sometimes I hate that I love you but never doubt my love for you," she said.
"I love you too," he said.
"Let's go inside. It's a chilly night," she said.

They stepped inside the cabin and she turned on the light. He looked around at all the dust and abandoned furniture and items. Someone had lived there once. Probably someone who died without anyone to take over, and the place got forgotten about.

"I like it here," he said.
"We're not staying long. Just for a few days until I figure out his next move so we can get away unseen. I got a can of gasoline stored here so we can drive for a few more hours. There's hardly anything left in the tank," she said.
"It breaks my heart that you have to live like this," he said.
"You don't have to live like this with me. You can still go home," she said.
"Fuck that," he said.

He pulled her into his arms and held her tight. She grabbed his shirt on his back and balled her fists around the fabric.

"I'm so sorry," Journey whispered.
"Ssh," Seth shushed Journey. "I made my choice. I want to be here with you. You have nothing to be sorry about."
"Doesn't this look cozy?" Finn asked.

Seth and Journey broke the hug and Seth was immediately pulled away from Journey. Finn stood behind Seth with his gun pointed at Seth's head.

"Did you fucking follow us here?" Journey asked.
"That's what you're worried about?" Finn laughed. "I'm about to blow a hole in loverboy here."

Journey pulled out her own gun and pointed it towards them.

"If you shoot him, I'll shoot you," Journey said.
"Try it, sweetheart, and see if you hit me or him," Finn said.
"Seth?" Journey asked.
"You didn't give me time to pack. I only have a knife on me," Seth said.
"You're fucking pathetic," Finn said. "Okay, Journey, here's how it's gonna go. You're gonna get in my car while loverboy rides in the trunk. Do as I say and I might let him live."
"No," Journey said.
"No?" Finn raised his eyebrows. "I'm gonna fucking kill him, Journey!"

Journey placed her gun at her own temple. Both men looked shocked at this action.

"If you kill him, I will kill myself," Journey said. "You want me intact."

Seth could hear Finn growl in his ear. Clearly Journey's ex was angry about her having turned the game around.

"Let him go and I'll disappear too. You won't have me but neither will he," Journey said. "30 minutes headstart, Finn. I will keep my eye on you from afar. If something happens to Seth or he suddenly goes missing, this cruel game of yours ends for good. You'll be dragging my corpse home."

Finn's growls got deeper and Seth felt spit on his ear. Seth knew better than to say or do anything in that moment. It was up to Finn if he wanted the chance of ever seeing Journey again.

"Fine!" Finn finally yelled. "30 minutes. Not a second more."

Journey backed towards the door to the cabin with her gun still placed at her temple. She looked over at Seth and he saw it all in her eyes. All the words she wanted to say but couldn't say in that moment.

"I love you," Seth mouthed.

Journey nodded and moved her eyes back to Finn. She took a step back and felt the ground outside under her.

"I'm gonna find you," Finn said.
"So will he," Journey said.

Journey turned around and ran away from the door. They heard her motorcycle roar to life. Finn pushed Seth away from him. Seth turned around and looked at the gun in Finn's hand.

"Sit down. We'll be here for 30 minutes and then I'll leave. You have her to thank that you're gonna walk away from here alive," Finn sneered. "Mark my words, loverboy. One day I'll come back to finish the job. Once I find her and bring her home, I'll hunt you down to end you. You touched my girl and you fucking deserve to die for it."

Journey drove as fast as she dared on the mountain roads. She knew she was driving way too fast but she needed to get as far away from Finn as possible. She wouldn't be able to get as far as she wanted. The can of gasoline was still back at the cabin. She needed to find somewhere else where she could be safe and figure out what to do next. She ran everything through her mind of what had happened tonight. Everything leading up to this point where she was driving way too fast and putting her life in danger all because she wanted to save herself and Seth.

"Fuck!" She screamed.

The sky opened up and rain started pouring down. It made the road slippery and she started driving faster. Suddenly death seemed like a welcoming friend. If she was dead, this cruel game would end. Finn would have lost but so would she.

"Come get me!" She screamed. "Come get me, you ugly motherfucker!"
