A couple of days after that dramatic night, there had been some sneaky sneaking going on at Grey Sloan.
They'd done it; the village had pulled together, crisis was adverted. Not that any of them thought the day would have long-term repercussions for their favourite couple, but still. You could say it was mean, unethical, unprofessional, maybe even dangerous and to be honest… probably. It's not like there was any actual operating though, just one consult and some observing/learning. Truth is, there was no need for the individual to stay around after, apart from to cause trouble, and that's why they knew they had to be… villaging (again, not a word).
Due to their success, the WhatsApp group was alive with activity that evening.
April: I think we did it, has anyone heard from them?
Teddy: No, not seen or heard from Arizona, she was probably with Herman all day
Meredith: Not had anything from Callie either, no doubt hauled up in her lab
Amelia: Isn't it the hospital's lab?
Alex: Nah, we all know it's Torres'
Cristina: I'm pretty sure if there was interaction, we'd know about it
April: I agree, I really think we pulled it off! Great job guys!
Meredith: Started well with Bailey giving her oversized scrubs
Alex: Yeah, looked like she'd shrunk in the wash!
Teddy: And I know she allocated her the locker that doesn't actually lock
Alex: Ha, yeah, Jo said she asked if she could use one in the resident's lockers, she said no and that 'the trash stays outside'
Teddy: No way!
Cristina: BUUURN. Nice one Wilson
Amelia: Was she here to perform surgery?
Teddy: Consult with Irvine only, I checked, no actual cutting, not on the board
Cristina: Irvine? Jackson's fellow?
April: Yeah, he wasn't happy, told him any outside consults need to go through him first. If he's fortunate enough to still be on his service after this
Meredith: She told Anne she was there to consult and see a friend
Cristina: I'd have taken a scalpel to her throat
Amelia: Cristina! Woah!
Alex: What about when Yang faced her off at the coffee cart?
Amelia: Edwards told me, apparently Cristina walked away laughing?
Cristina: I told a joke! A good ol' fashioned joke.
Teddy: What was the joke?
Cristina: How do you make a hormone?
Cristina: You take her coffee and walk away
Meredith: So we took it
Alex: And walked away
April: All three of you did that? Where was I?
Cristina: I think you were hunting for her scrub cap, you wanted to chuck it
April: Oh okay, yeah she wasn't operating but still brought her cap
Alex: You find it?
April: Yup
Meredith: Will she?
April: Nope
Amelia: Guys this is insane! Workplace bullying, HR etc, what were you thinking?
Meredith: That she'd refuse any future consult requests
Alex: Whatever, it's not her workplace anyway
Teddy: There are plenty of other specialists in her field, we don't need her
Cristina: She asked where the supply closet was, I directed her to the janitorial one
Amelia: Wait, the one she was locked in?!
Meredith: I didn't know she was in there
Amelia: YOU locked her in Mer? How did you get the key?
Meredith: I own the hospital. It was 5 minutes anyway, she lived
Amelia: She said she was in there for 20!
Alex: Boohoo, who cares
Cristina: Owen made me laugh; he kept cutting her off via the intercom when she was asking questions
Alex: Dude even BokHee found it hilarious
Teddy: It was funny when Richard let the door shut on her face, I nearly spit my drink
April: Jackson told me about that! He held it open for him and Irvine and then just walked away
Meredith: He said he wouldn't do the reconstruction if it hit her, said Mark would kill him
Amelia: Were you all behind what happened in the canteen too?
Cristina: I don't know what you're talking about Shepherd
Amelia: Where Karev let every single hospital worker go ahead of him in the queue whilst she stood behind him
Cristina: It was classic to be fair
Alex: I was feeling generous today, if that meant she got no food then that's not on me
Cristina: She only eats the souls of unborn babies anyway
April: CRISTINA!
Teddy: Did you see her stalking the board too?
Meredith: Yeah, April messaged me to say she was on her way to check it out, I just replaced Bailey with Robbins, so it looked like she was in OR 1
April: I changed it back after she walked away
Meredith: So when she got to OR 1 she was met by Bailey
Alex: Jo said Bailey asked why someone with her specialty would want to see a bowel repair, said if she was slacking in the basics she could tag along with the interns for the day
Amelia: Don't mess with the Chief I guess
Alex: I didn't see her on the peds floor at all, so well done with that guys
Meredith: She went to but I told her the babies have suffered enough
Teddy: Owen told her there were enough sick babies at her own hospital, and if she was there for any other reason, she could leave
Amelia: I saw security rifle through her bag as she left, were any of you responsible for that?
Meredith: I heard a rumour she was smuggling opioids out
Amelia: MEREDITH! You planted drugs on her?!
Meredith: I didn't
Amelia: Which one of you did?!
Cristina: We plead the fifth
Meredith: You can't be too sure with visiting consults anyway, we own this hospital, we have a right to make sure our stock isn't stolen
Amelia: I didn't think this level of hate existed, god you guys!
Teddy: Oh you have no idea
April: Alex instructing her to make her way to the security desk over loudspeaker was funny
Alex: Best 20 bucks ever, the guy just looked the other way when I took the mic
Meredith: I wonder if the taxi driver took her to Sea-Tac or Spokane
Amelia: Please don't tell me you paid for a 4 hour cab ride from Seattle to Spokane?!
Meredith: No
April: Jackson did
Cristina: Wonder if she realised before it was too late, missed her flight and stuff
April: Jackson told the driver she didn't like to be spoken to, so just drive
Amelia: You're all nuts, you know that?
Cristina: Nah
Teddy: I think we all deserve an award for successfully navigating today
April: We did good, all the effort paid off!
Alex: Definitely, we've earned good karma or something trippy. Robbins better let me tag along to some cool foetal surgeries
Cristina: You love her, you did it because you care
Alex: Whatever, in that case you love Torres
Cristina: I'm fond of the mother of my goddaughter
Teddy: Neither are going to find out about this, so no surgeries Karev
Alex: Fine
Meredith: Guys, we're good friends
Cristina: We're good people
Amelia: Well you all kinda crossed some boundaries today
Cristina: Whatever, people up for Joe's?
Teddy: Oh yes
Alex: I'm down
April: Sounds good, Jackson has Harriet
Teddy: I'll text Owen
Meredith: I bet you will
Amelia: Am I invited or is it just for insane Callie and Arizona fans?
Cristina: If you're buying, you're welcome
Meredith: See you in 30, Tequlia's on me!
Their friends had indeed done a fantastic job at ensuring there was no crossover. What may have been of interest to them is that the couple weren't actually in the hospital that day. They'd spent it together, in bed (lots of sexy time), before picking up their daughter after school and heading straight to a travel agent to book a family vacation.
But yes, credit to the village, even though they weren't technically there, Callie and Arizona did not come across the visiting Lauren Boswell that day.
And never would again.
