I do not own…

Jerusalem's Lot was once a ghost town back in the mid of 1978. No one knew why and the few old locals that had moved away never explained why either. About a year later the whole town was burned down. Some say it was Arson. Believing that the town was cursed and that they were trying to get rid of the evil that lives within it. While others believed it was nature. They had a few lightning storms in Maine. People believed lightning must have struck dry grass near town and the fire started from there. So the town stayed that way for a few months until an anonymous benefactor rebuilt the town by their donation. And therefore Jerusalem's Lot was reborn. Many businesses were opening and many families have been brought into town to stay and planted roots in the Lot. The newest family to move into the Lot were Leah Dixons and her highschool daughter Alex. They moved to this town to be closer to Alexs' grandfather, Simon Dixon. He moved to Jerusalem's Lot a few months ago and had opened up a hunter store in town called Dixon Outdoor Gear. This move was to surprise him and to be closer to him. He is in his 70's now and Leah was worried about him.

They were driving on the highway with their rental trailer attached in the back. Leah kept her eyes on the road while following the GPS directions. Alex on the other hand was sitting in the passenger seat, listening to music from her MP3 player. She was happy to see her grandfather but wasn't that happy about the move. A part of her thought she would be used to it as they stay in one place for long. Now she is just numb to it. As they drove on the road Alex watched the scenes passing by. A few miles away they just passed a sign that showed them how many miles the next towns were in. Jerusalem's Lot was ten miles away. The next town they had to pass through was called Ludlow. As they drove through Shadow, their German Shepherd, growled a little as they drove passed by the only house that was on the narrow highway. Alex placed a hand on his back and petted him, trying to calm him down. He was only able to calm after they were a few miles away from the house.

"Does Shadow need to do his business?" Leah asked

"No. Something evil surrounded that land. He could smell it." Alex said

Leah said nothing. This was nothing new to her and decided to leave it be. The supernatural was nothing new for her family but she didn't want her daughter to be a part of it.

It was around noon that they arrived in town. Alex looked around as they drove through. It looked like every other town they had moved to but she didn't like it. There was something about this town that she didn't like. They passed through a few stores and buildings that were nearby till they finally made it to their new home. It was a single family home with two floors. The house was surrounded by the woods and was only a house down from her grandfathers' one story house.

"What do you think?" Leah asked

She got out of the car and was smiling at the place. Alex followed her out of the car and let Shadow out. The dog excitedly jumped out and started sniffing around the land.

"We've had six homes already. It doesn't look any different from the others." Alex shrugged

Leah looked at her daughter with a sad expression. She knew they had moved a lot but one day she knew Alex would understand.

"I promise, Alex, this will be our last move." Leah said

"That's what you said the last time." Alex muttered

They heard the moving truck coming up so Alex grabbed a hold of Shadow as the truck drove in their lot. While Leah was showing the movers where to put everything Alex put a leash on Shadow went on for a walk. She went to see if her grandfather was home. It was Tuesday, so his store should be closed today. The teen had a feeling that despite what her mother believed he wasn't gonna be happy that they moved to this town. He will never allow them to visit him since he moved here, not even for the holidays. But he'll always visit them. When she got to his house he wasn't home. His truck was here so she could only guess that he's off hunting or fishing somewhere. She wasn't sure if she should wait or just look around the neighborhood. In this area there were only a few houses so she decided to check out the other neighbors. Since it was still summer she was able to see some of them. The Douglas were a family of four. Mrs. Douglas was tending the front garden as her two seven year old twin boys were playing around the sprinkler. It was her boys that had spotted Alex walking with Shadow and they wanted to pet him. Shadow was good with kids so the teen let them. Mrs. Douglas saw this and got up as she hadn't seen Alex around.

"Hello, I'm Nataline Douglas. I hope my boys weren't troubling you." Mrs. Douglas

"Not at all ma'am." Alex said

"What's his name?" Ben, twin one, asked

"His name is Shadow." Alex said before introducing herself to the woman. "Alex. Alex Dixon."

"Dixon? Are you by any chance related to old man Simon Dixon?" Mrs. Douglas asked

"Yes, Ma'am, he's my grandfather." Alex nodded

"Oh, how sweet, are you visiting him?" Mrs. Douglas smiled

"My mother and I just moved into the house next to his." Alex explained. "She was worried about him…as he is getting older."

"Well that's very sweet of you and your mother." Mrs. Douglas smiled "Well let me be the first to welcome you and your family to Salem's Lot."

Alex continued walking down the road and saw the Hewsons' house. No one was outside but did see the wife sitting in the living room and a kid was running around. Then there were the Washingtons', They were a couple in their 50's that are a family of five. So far she saw the father and son that were working in the front yard. When she walked by, the son spotted her and stopped from mowing the lawn. Alex only glanced at him for a moment before continuing walking. It looked like he was gonna try and talk to her but his dad stopped him and told him to continue mowing. After walking a bit more she saw and met about three more families till her mom called her. The moving people had finished emptying the truck so she wanted her back to help with unpacking. She also ordered pizza for lunch so it would be there in about 40 minutes. So Alex turned around with Shadow and headed back to the new house. When they got back Alex stopped in her tracks when she had a feeling that someone was watching her. Looking around, she saw that no one was around. Shadow growled again and she saw that he was looking up at the hill. Alex looked where he was looking and she couldn't believe that she never noticed it. Overlooking the town was a house. It looked to be burned down and parts of it had collapsed. The place gave her the creeps.

By the time the pizza arrived Alex was unpacking her stuff in her room. The highlight of it was the second biggest room but the downside was that it had a clear view of the house on the hill in one of her windows. She had to close the blinds just so she didn't have to see it.

"Did you get to see grandpa?" Leah asked

She came in with a plate of pizza slices.

"He wasn't home." Alex said "I think he went off fishing. He did say there was river close by"

"I think so too. I tried calling him but he wouldn't answer. That usually means he's fishing and he has it on silent." Leah sighed. "I wish he wouldn't do that."

Alex took a few bites of her pizza. It came from a pizza place called Palos' Amazing Pizza. It wasn't Dominos and Pizza Hut but it was still good. The pizza was very cheesy and had a good amount of different meats.

"Grandpa can handle himself. You know he doesn't like it when you hover for him." She said

"I don't hover." Leah said

"That's what he says." Alex shrugged

"I'm just worried for him. He still does that…hobby…of his. And he's not as young as he used to be." Leah said as she sat down next to Alex on her full size bed. "I…I really wished he would have moved with us back to New York and retired already. He deserves it."

"Grandpa hates cities. And I know he may not look it but he still has a lot of life in him." Alex smiled "Remember that Halloween, and those highschool guys egged his car."

Leah chuckled as she did.

"He ran after them and caught them. He even made them wash the egg off his car." Alex laughed

"That Camaro of his is a classic, he loves that car." Leah smiled

"And you know he doesn't believe in retirement. He believes if he can still move around and breathe he will keep on working." Alex said

"Yeah, that's your grandpas' mindset for you." Leah sighed before joking. "So for him to slow down is if he breaks his legs."

"Nope. I think he'll still find a way to work." Alex said before taking another bite. "You know he's not gonna be happy about this."

"Well…he's just gonna have to get used to it. The house is already sold. I start at the hospital tomorrow. And you're already enrolled in Stephen High School." Leah said and got up. "Whether he likes it or not, we're staying here."

Around 4 pm, Simon came to the house after listening to her voicemail. Just like Alex thought he was not happy. There was a lot of yelling on his part, saying that Leah shouldn't have come here and many other things. Not wanting to hear all this Alex decided to head out to the backyard. She walked to the side where she noticed a tree with a swing attached to it. The teen girl just sat down on it as she listened to Smell like teen spirit by Nirvana. She almost got lost in the music until her phone rang. The caller I.D says dad and Alex debated on answering it or letting it ring. After the fourth ring Alex had her decision.

"Hi John." She said

"Alex, how many times have I told you to call me dad?" John asked in annoyance.

Alex couldn't help but smile. He only appeared in her life five years ago and she still only calls him by his name. Her grandfather always encouraged her to do it as the man never was around to earn the title.

"Sorry John." She smirked

He sighed on the other end and she guessed that decided to let it go for now.

"How's the new house?" He asked

"It's okay." She shrugged

"How'd the old man take it?" He asked

Alex simply held up her cell phone where he could hear Simon and Leah arguing still.

"They've been like that for twenty minutes." Alex said

"Told your mom it was a bad idea." John muttered

"What is it about Salem's Lot that Grandpa is worried about?" Alex asked, wondering if he'll have the answer.

John mentally sighed, not knowing if he should explain the history of the town. Her mom made it clear to him that she didn't want their daughter to get involved in their line of work. John thinks it's ridiculous as its' in her blood.

"Back in 1978 the town was once overrun by vampires. The Master was called Barlow. According to your grandfather he was an ancient vampire. Your grandfather took the job and was only able to save a few people." John said "The town was so overrun that he had to retreat. He returned with more hunters and they were able to kill the rest of them but…I don't know…Your grandfather believed the town was so tainted by their blood that it would draw supernaturals to it so he and the others…burned the town."

"That was him." Alex said in stunned

"Don't go bragging about it. For all these people know it was bush fire from a lit cigarette or something." John replied

"I'm not stupid, John." Alex scoffed "Is that why Grandpa moved here when the town was rebuilt?"

"I have no doubt. If it attracted one monster like Barlow it could attract others…maybe something worse." John said

"Does mom know about its history?" She asked

"Course she does. She's just one of those who believe that dead stays dead. And doesn't believe that the town is cursed." John said

"Do you?" She asked

"In our line of business you can never be sure. Just be careful and keep your eyes open." John said "You still got that switchblade I got you for your birthday?"

"Yeah." She said

"Good, now look Alex…the reason I'd called is…" He said

"You're gonna be on another long hunt aren't you." She stated

When he's on long hunts he tends to forget about other's, even family and never calls or stops by. He did this when she was fourteen and both her mom and grandfather lay it in on him for never reaching out. Leah told him if he has hunts like that again tell them or she'll never allow him to see Alex again.

"Yeah, it's a big one. I don't know how long it'll be. I'm sorry, baby girl." John said

"I'm a daughter and granddaughter of hunters. It's to be expected." Alex said

"That's my girl. If you or your mother run into any trouble you have Bobby Singer's number." He said

"I know." She said

She looked at the house and could hear that the yelling had stopped.

"Do you want to talk to mom?" She asked

He made a noise which made her smirk again. Her parents were like cats and dogs. They always argued with one another.

"Guess it would be for the best. I don't need your mom on my ass for not telling her too." He said

Alex headed inside where Simon was now either marking or carving spells by the windows and doors around the house. Leah shook her head towards her, mentally telling her not to ask. Shrugging, Alex handed Leah her phone and told her that it was John. Leah had a look of annoyance and took the phone. Believing that will take a while Alex decided to greet her grandfather.

"Hi, Grandpa." Alex said and hugged him. "Sorry about the surprise."

Simon arm hugged her and kissed her forehead before continuing his work.

"I'm not mad at you. I just wish your mother would understand that I may be old but I can handle myself. And that I know what I'm doing." Simon said

He finished his work on the window and muttered a few words. The writing started to glow and faded through the wood. It was as if they weren't there.

"What did you do?" She asked

"They're protective spells. They'll keep out anything that doesn't have a pulse." He said before taking out a necklace with a cross from his jacket pocket. "Since you'll both be staying here I want you to wear this."

Alex took the necklace and saw that it was a bit large and was beautifully designed.

"It's made of pure silver. And was blessed by a priest." Simon said

"I thought crosses was all Hollywood bullshit." She muttered

"Language. And yes they are but there are different types of vampires. And with the ones I faced last time, not only did they repel them, it lets you know when one is near." Simon said

Alex promised that she'll keep it on as she placed it on. Simon nodded before placing more protection spells around the house. Alex fidget the cross a bit before walking to the kitchen and looked out the window. There she could see the house through one of the windows. Her eyes narrowed a bit as could have sworn she saw some light passing through parts of the house that was standing. She leaned a bit closer, hoping to see it again but nothing.
