A Blast from the Past

Hisui Region: 150 years ago.

On a rainy day in a forested area, a small foxlike Pokemon with whitish gray fur on most of its body, red-tipped ears, along with a thick ring of pure white fur that fades to pink around its neck, two red dots on its forehead, yellowish orange eyes, a white fluffy, red-tipped tail, along with a tuft of white fur on its head with a long wisp of it that changes from pink to red at the end of it; was running from a large, beige-colored, mantis Pokemon with a dark brown stone beard and eyebrows, a spiky stone ring around each of its shoulders, a rock protuding from the top of its head, and most notably, stone axe blades at the end of its arms.

The fox Pokemon narrowly dodges a swipe from the mantis Pokemon's axe blade, which cuts clean through a tree. All of a sudden, it stopped raining, but the air felt really strange. The fox Pokemon sees some sort of strange light coming from the edge of the forest; not knowing what else to do, it makes a run for it with the mantis Pokemon following after it, when the fox Pokemon was close to the forest's edge, it leaps into the light,...and right into the arms of a human boy with white hair.

Sinnoh Region, Route 202: Present Day.

"What Pokemon is that?" asked Sam as she looks at the wet, shivering, fox Pokemon in Lincoln's arms.

"I don't know." said Lincoln as he looks at the Pokemon before pointing his pokedex at it.

"Pokemon unknown, no available data." said the pokedex.

"There's nothing in my pokedex at all about this little guy." said Lincoln with surprise.

"What happened to it?" asked Sam. "Why is it wet?"

"I don't know." said Dawn. "It hasn't rained her in over a week."

"And what was that weird dome it came out of?" asked Lincoln. He looks at the fox Pokemon and sees it was still shivering it, so he strokes its back to try and comfort it; it helped a little, but it was still a little shaky.

"What should we do with it?" asked Sam.

"Let's head back and bring it to the Pokemon Center." suggested Dawn.

"Good idea." said Lincoln as he stands up while holding the fox Pokemon close to him. The three went back to Sandgem Town and immediately make their way back to the Pokemon Center. Five minutes later in a treatment room, the nurse was examining the fox Pokemon, that was currently sleeping on a bed, with a confused look on her face, while Lincoln, Sam, and Dawn were behind her.

"This is very peculiar." said the nurse.

"What's wrong?" asked Lincoln.

"I believe this Pokemon is a Zorua." said the nurse. "But it doesn't look like any one I've seen before; neither regular or shiny."

"What do you mean?" asked Sam. The nurse goes over to a bookshelf and pulls out a Pokemon biology book from it. She brings it over to Lincoln, Sam, and Dawn; and opens it to a page with a picture of a Pokemon that looked almost like the fox Pokemon with them, but it was slate gray, and the tuft of hair on its head was shorter.

"This is a Zorua." said the nurse. "But as you can see, it's different than the one you brought in."

"Why is that?" asked Dawn.

"I'm not sure." said the nurse as she looks at the Zorua on the operating table.

"Maybe Professor Rowan would know." suggested Lincoln.

"That's a good idea." said the nurse. "Keep an eye on our little guest while I call him." She runs to the lobby to do so while Lincoln, Sam, and Dawn watch over the Zorua. As they wait, Lincoln takes a blanket that was in the room and drapes it over the Zorua, all while stroking its head; it opens one of its eyes and looks at Lincoln for a few seconds before closing it.

Ten minutes later, the nurse, along with Professor Rowan, enter the treatment room.

"It's right over here, Professor." said the nurse.

"Very well, let's take a look at..." Professor Rowan started to say before his eyes widen in shock. "It couldn't be..."

"What's wrong, Professor Rowan?" asked Sam.

"Do you know what's wrong?" asked Dawn.

"I need to check something; I'll be right back!" said Professor Rowan as he dashes out of the room.

"What's wrong with him?" asked Sam.

"He must know something." said Lincoln. Twenty more minutes later, Professor Rowan comes back with a large tome under one of his arms, and nearly out of breath.

"Professor, are you alright?" asked Dawn.

"I...I'm fine." said Professor Rowan. He then places the tome onto a table that was in the room and starts flipping through it.

"What's that book, Professor?" asked Sam.

"This is the very first pokedex ever made." said Professor Rowan.

"It must be old, considering it's a non-electronic pokedex." said Dawn. The professor stops when he gets to a page with a photograph of the Zorua that was in the room with them.

"That is a Hisuian Zorua you three brought in!" said Professor Rowan.

"Hisuian?" replied Lincoln.

"You see, Lincoln; over a hundred years ago, this region wasn't called Sinnoh, it was called Hisui." explained Professor Rowan.

"Really?" asked Sam.

"Yes, this variety of Zorua hasn't been seen in over a century." said Professor Rowan. "Where did you find it?"

"It came out of this weird dome thing that appeared on Route 202." said Sam.

"That must've been a Time Distortion." said Professor Rowan.

"A what?" replied Lincoln.

"There have been records in an old journal belonging to an old organization called the Galaxy Team Survey Corps regarding anomalies in which Pokemon not really seen in the area around that time dwell in; these are called Time Distortions." explained Professor Rowan.

"Where do they come from?" asked Dawn.

"No one really knows." said Professor Rowan. They all look over at the Hisuian Zorua that was sleeping quietly.

"So, what else can you tell us about it?" asked Lincoln.

"A Zorua in our age is a dark type Pokemon, while a Hisuian one is part normal, and part ghost." explained Professor Rowan.

"What does that tome say about it?" asked Sam. "Lincoln's pokedex couldn't identify it at all."

"Give me your pokedexes and I'll update them to give you information on our little guest over there." said Professor Rowan. Sam and Lincoln hand their pokedexes over to him and he takes them, along with the tome, to a computer that was in the room.

About two minutes later, Professor Rowan gives the pokedexes back to Lincoln and Sam.

"That should do it." said Professor Rowan. "Try using them on Zorua now."

"Okay." said Lincoln. He points his pokedex at the sleeping Hisuian Zorua.

"Zorua, the Spiteful Fox Pokemon. A once-departed soul, returned to life in Hisui. Derives power from resentment, which rises as energy atop its head and takes on the forms of foes. In this way, Zorua vents lingering malice." said the pokedex.

"So, what should we do with this Zorua?" asked Lincoln.

"We'll keep it here for observation; I would like to study it some more." said Professor Rowan.

"Okay. It's getting a little late, so me and Sam will just head back to our cabin and have some dinner." said Lincoln.

"We'll stop by tomorrow." said Sam.

"No need to worry about Zorua; it's in good hands with Professor Rowan." said Dawn.

"That's good to know." said Lincoln. He and Sam exited the Pokemon Center and returned to their cabin.

Later that night at Professor Rowan's lab, Professor Rowan was looking at the Hisuian Zorua with interest.

"What can I learn about you, little one?" asked Professor Rowan. He then looks at the clock on a wall and sees how late it was. After he turns the lights in his lab off, he heads back towards his home.

Sometime after he left, the Hisuian Zorua opens his eyes and looks around at his surroundings; all the modern stuff with their blinking lights and weird noises made it nervous. It then remembers Lincoln from before and how nice he was to it, and since it was in contact with him, it has his scent; so it hops off the bed and begins sniffing the floor; it picked up Lincoln's scent and began following it out of the lab and out through a door.

Moments later, the Hisuian Zorua arrived at Lincoln and Sam's cabin. It walked through the cabin door and continued following Lincoln's scent until it arrived at Lincoln's room, where it saw him sleeping. It leapt on his bed and walks over to him; it sniffed him before it circled around a few times before laying down on the bed, and soon fell asleep.
