Purple Wisps, the Odd Keystone, and Drifloon
As most of the Loud siblings slept, Lucy was looking out the window of the house that she, Luna, Lynn, and Lisa were sharing.
'Why can't we remember anything about our pasts?' Lucy asked herself in her mind to avoid waking up her slumbering sisters. 'Where are we from? What happened to our parents? What were we like?'
She then goes outside for a walk to help clear her mind. As she wanders around Jubilife Village, something catches her attention; a purple flame that was floating in midair.
"What is that?" asked Lucy as she approaches it. "I don't know why, but I feel some sort of connection with this."
"Hello." said a voice from behind Lucy; she looks to see a girl about her age with black hair, wearing a brown kimono.
"Greetings." said Lucy.
"My name is Vessa." said the girl now known as Vessa.
"I am Lucy Loud." said girl looks at the purple flame with worry on her face.
"There's something you should know about this fire." said the girl. "It's acutally part of a being that brought calamity to Hisui a long time ago."
"Whoa." said Lucy.
"The being was sealed away a long time ago by someone using a strange magic." said Vessa. "But for reasons unknown, those very magics have failed and the seal is broken. This region is in danger, and I hate to think about what would happen if the being regained its full strength. Can I have your help, Lucy?"
"What do you need me to do?" asked Lucy.
"I need you to restore the broken seal." said Vessa.
"How would I do that?" asked Lucy.
"You really want to help?" replied Vessa.
"For some reason, I feel a strange connection with this fire." said Lucy.
"I see." said Vessa. She takes out a stone with a large crack on it and two small dots, and hands it to Lucy.
"What is this?" asked Lucy as she examines the stone.
"That is the Odd Keystone." said Vessa. "After the being escaped, it split into a large number of the small purple flames; 107 to be precise."
"You mean like that one?" asked Lucy as she looks at the purple flame that she noticed before.
"Exactly." said Vessa. "That Odd Keystone I gave you, you will be able to collect them."
"Wicked." said Lucy.
"Pardon?" replied Vessa.
"Sorry, I don't know where that word came from." said Lucy.
"Anyway, the wisps are normally invisible, except to those who hold the Odd Keystone." said Vessa. "I'm amazed that you were able to spot the one nearby."
"I don't know why, but I feel a strong connection with it." said Lucy.
"Then you might be able to help gather all the wisps." said Vessa. She looks towards the spot where the purple flame is. "Try touching that one."
"Very well." said Lucy. She goes over to the wisp and pokes it with her finger; the wisp suddenly floats over to the Odd Keystone and gets sucked into it.
"Excellent." said Vessa. "The wisp was absorbed into the Odd Keystone, as it should be."
"One down, one hundred and six to go." said Lucy.
"I know that it sounds like a lot, and they are scattered all over the Hisui Region; but as you do your work with the Survey Corps, perhaps you can keep an eye out for the remaining ones?" asked Vessa.
"Sure." said Lucy. "It will keep me busy."
"I'm glad I chose you to help with this task." said Vessa. "You should try looking around the village some more, there might be more."
"Very well." said Lucy. As Vessa heads back to her home, Lucy decides to do a thorough search of the village; searching every alleyway, around every building, and every object she saw; so far, she has located six of the wisps.
She eventually makes her way to the beach where she and her siblings were found after they first arrived in this land. When she checks out the small shed nearby, she finds another one and has the Odd Keystone absorb it.
"That's another one." said Lucy. As she turns to head back to Jubilife Village, she sees that she wasn't alone. Behind her was a small boy with black hair, wearing a brown haroi and gray pants; with him was a purple balloon-like Pokemon with a white cloudlike tuft on its head, stringy arms with yellow hands, and a yellow X-shaped mark on its face.
"C-Can you help me, please?" asked the boy.
"What is wrong?" asked Lucy as she looks at the Pokemon with interest.
"I wanna go home, but Drifloon won't let me go." said the boy.
"Drifloon?" replied Lucy. "Is that what these Pokemon are called?"
"Yes, could you help me Survey Corps person?" pleaded the boy. Lucy looks through her satchel for something she could use, and she finds one of the pokeballs she received earlier. Not knowing anything else she could try, she throws it at the Drifloon, hitting it, and sucking it in; the pokeball wiggles a few times before a firework shoots out from it.
"I caught Drifloon." said Lucy in a monotone voice.
"Yaay! Now I can go home!" said the boy. "But that Drifloon didn't mean to be bad. It always played together with me. It's really friendly! So, I kept it a secret from everyone."
"I see." said Lucy.
"My parents are probably worried about me! I really need to get home!" said the boy. "But thanks for helping. My name is Taki."
"My name is Lucy." said Lucy.
"What do I tell my parents?" asked Taki. "I don't want to tell them about Drifloon because they might be upset that I was playing with Pokemon."
"Tell them that you were lying down on the grass, and it was so comfortable that you fell asleep." said Lucy.
"That could work." said Taki. "I need to go." He then runs back towards the village. Lucy looks up at the night sky.
"I guess it's time for me to go back also." said Lucy as she looks at her new Drifloon's pokeball.
The next morning at the Wallflower, the Loud siblings, Professor Laventon, Rei, and Akari were all having breakfast. As they ate, Lucy told them about last night.
"What were you doing out late?" asked Lori in a firm tone of voice.
"I was trying to clear my mind of the questions concerning our unknown pasts." said Lucy, making her siblings look down with upset looks on their faces. "And for some reason, I find the night to be quite soothing."
"These purple wisps sound like an intriguing subject." said Professor Laventon.
"You really want to look for them, Lucy?" asked Akari.
"I feel a strong connection to them somehow, and it could be fun." said Lucy.
"Well, I suppose as long as you are still working on the pokedex, you can search for the wisps on the side." said Professor Laventon.
"And you have a Pokemon to look out for you." said Lincoln.
"Is my Drifloon a boy or a girl; and what attacks does it know?" asked Lucy. Professor Laventon reaches into his bag and pulls out the research notes on Lucy's new Pokemon.
"I believe your Drifloon is a girl, and the only attack she has right now is Confusion." said Professor Laventon.
"Thank you." said Lucy. After everyone finishes eating, they all head to the front gate of Jubilife Village.
"Well, everyone." Lincoln started to say. "We got a pokedex to complete."
"I will do everything I can to assist with this endeavor." said Lisa.
"I will do what I can also." said Lori.
"So will I." said Leni.
"We all will." said Lynn Jr.
"That's the spirit, children." said Professor Laventon.
"And speaking of spirits, I will also be looking for the wisps." said Lucy.
"Let's go, everyone!" said Lincoln, getting cheers from his sisters, Professor Laventon, Akari, and Rei as they ran out the village gate to continue their work.
Lucy now has a personal quest, as well as a Pokemon of her own. What other things will the Louds experience as their work with the Survey Corps has only just begun?
