Meeting with Mai
The next morning, the Loud siblings exit their houses to start their days.
"Morning, everyone." said Akari, making the Loud siblings look to see her approaching them with Rei by her side.
"Morning, Akari and Rei." said Leni.
"Did you all sleep well?" asked Rei.
"Yes, thank you." said Lori.
"So, what's this request we're helping you with, Akari?" asked Luan.
"We are meeting with someone from the Diamond Clan." said Akari.
"Diamond Clan?" Lola replied. The word 'diamond' seemed to have sparked a reaction from her for reasons she couldn't explain.
"It's one of the two main clans that live here in Hisui." explained Rei.
"Is this person we're meeting with the one who originally made the request that you asked us for help with, Akari?" asked Lincoln.
"Yes." said Akari. "I don't have all the details regarding it, but we are to meet her on the other side of the river south of Aspiration Hill."
"We've never been on the other side of that river before." said Lisa. "Perhaps there are new kinds of Pokemon we haven't done any research on."
"Yes, there are some Pokemon that aren't seen in the areas you all are familiar with." said Rei.
"This would be a great opportunity to add more data to the pokedex." said Lisa.
"Maybe there will be more cute ones." said Lola.
"I hope so, too." said Leni.
"We shall head to the meeting place after we have some breakfast." said Rei.
"Good idea." said Lana as her stomach growls. After a quick meal at the Wallflower, the group exits the village and head towards their destinations with Lola riding her Ponyta.
"I'm excited to see what's on the other side of the river." said Lincoln.
"I wonder if there's anything valuable to find." wondered Lola.
"We'll find out when we get there." said Lori as she and the rest of the group heads towards the river. When they arrive, they see a bridge with a member of the Security Corps standing on it who walk over to the group when they reach it.
"Hello, everyone." said the Security Corps member.
"Hello." Rei replied. "We have business on the other side of this river." The Security Corps member looks at the Loud siblings and recognizes them.
"Oh, it's you, Loud siblings." said the Security Corps member. "I know that you're able to handle what's on the other side of the river." He then steps aside and allows the group to cross the bridge.
When they get to the other side, they immediately see a woman with black hair that had a hairclip in it, wearing a navy blue jacket that had a symbol on the front, and an image of a bearlike Pokemon on the right sleeve; over a black, long-sleeved shirt, a bracelet on her right wrist, black leggings that had an image of an antlered Pokemon on her right leg, a belt with multiple pouches around her waist, and black and orange boots; with her was a Pokemon with teal and cream-colored fur, and small pointed ears on top of its head.
"Hello." said Akari, getting the woman's attention.
"Oh, hello, Akari." said the woman. Akari then looks towards the Loud siblings.
"Everyone, this is Mai." said Akari.
"Are these new faces in the village?" asked the woman now known as Mai.
"Yes." said Rei.
"My name is Lori Loud." said Lori who then goes on to introduce her siblings.
"Are you all really siblings?" asked Mai.
"We are." said Luan.
"It doesn't matter to me whether you are or not, what matters is that they're here to help."
"They are." said Rei.
"Like Akari there told you, my name is Mai; I'm a Warden of the Diamond Clan." said Mai.
"What's a Warden?" asked Lana.
"I'll explain later." said Mai. "Tell me; how confident are you in your skills at battling?" asked Mai.
"We've had some experience." said Lori.
"That's good to hear." said Mai. "Your Security Corps weren't up to the task." The Security Corps member on the bridge looks away with embarrassment. Lisa then looks at the Pokemon standing next to Mai.
"What's that Pokemon?" asked Lisa. Mai looks at the Pokemon with a smile.
"This is my partner, Munchlax." said Mai. "We were raised together like siblings."
"That's nice." said Lori.
"He battles by my side by choice." said Mai. "I don't have to rely on silly little balls like the lot of you use."
"I'll have you know my brother doesn't keep his Pokemon in his pokeballs either." said Lisa, making Mai look to see Lincoln's Pokemon with him.
"I see you trust your Pokemon." said Mai.
"They're like friends to me." said Lincoln.
"I like that attitude towards Pokemon." said Mai with a smile. "So, I want to have a battle with one of you to see how skilled you are." The Loud siblings look at each other.
"So, who wants to battle?" asked Lori.
"Oooh, let me do it, Lori!" said Lana as she runs over to Mai; she then tosses Oshawott's pokeball and lets her out of it.
"Eager, are we?" asked Mai. "I hope you're as experienced."
"One way to find out." said Lana as she gets ready for battle.
"Very well." said Mai. She looks down at Munchlax and nods, making it run in front of her.
"Oshawott, use Swords Dance!" said Lana. Oshawott pulls the shell off her torso and does a few spinning slashes with it, raising her attack strength as a result.
"A good tactic from the start, young one." said Mai. "Munchlax, use Tackle!" The Munchlax runs at Oshawott and rams her.
"Oshawott, use Aqua Jet!" said Lana. Oshawott's body becomes covered in water, and she propels herself at the Munchlax and rams into its torso, knocking it back.
"Munchlax, use Rollout!" said Mai. Munchlax tucks itself into a ball and rolls at Oshawott and collides with her.
"Be careful, Lana." said Lisa. "Rollout's power increases each time it's used consecutively."
"Quite knowledgeable for one your age." said Mai.
"Then I'll take it down before it uses it again." said Lana. "Oshawott, use Aqua Jet again!" Oshawott hits Munchlax with another watery tackle.
"Munchlax, use Rollout again!" said Mai. Munchlax rolls back at Oshawott and hits it with more force than before. Oshawott struggles to her feet.
"I don't think Oshawott can take another hit like that." said Lincoln.
"I hope this next hit stops Munchlax." said Lana with worry in her voice. "Oshawott, use Tackle!" Oshawott uses the remaining energy she had and rams the Munchlax's face, knocking it onto its back, unconscious.
"You won, Lana!" said Lola.
"Wow, battling a Pokemon with a trainer is a lot different than battling a wild one." said Lana as she uses a Potion on her Oshawott.
"But at least you still won." said Lola. She tosses Mai another Potion to use on her Munchlax which she gratefully accepts.
"You all aren't like the other Team Galaxy members if you're able to beat my partner." said Mai.
"Thanks." said Lana.
"You and your Pokemon fought well toghether!" said Mai. "You practically acted as one with it."
"We're very close." said Lana.
"If your siblings are just as good as you are, then you all are truly the ones for the job." said Mai.
"What is the job?" asked Lori.
"I need some help dealing with an Alpha Pokemon causing trouble on an area we call Deertrack Heights." said Mai.
"An Alpha?" replied Lori.
"You mean a Pokemon that's larger than a standard one of their species and have glowing red eyes?" asked Lisa.
"Yes, I see you're familiar with them." said Mai. "Will you help me?"
"This would be an opportunity to study one." said Lisa.
"If it helps complete the pokedex, then we should check it out, as well as other Pokemon in the surrounding area." said Lincoln. Mai points down a dirt road leading to a small mountain.
"This road we're on is called Deertrack Path; the Alpha Pokemon is at the top of that mountain in some ruins." said Mai. "When you feel that you're ready to take it on, I'll be waiting for you there."
"Okay." said Lincoln. Mai heads off down the road to the spot she pointed out.
"Should we head there right away?" asked Lynn Jr.
"Alpha Pokemon are not to be taken lightly." said Lisa. "We should train our Pokemon and make them stronger before we engage it."
"I guess it wouldn't hurt." said Lori.
"And I wish to investigate what kind of Pokemon are in this area." said Lisa.
"We should split up into groups." said Luna.
"Very well." said Lisa. "Lincoln, Lynn, Lucy, and I will be one group."
"Me, the twins, and Lily will be another one." said Leni.
"Yeah, I still only have the Oshawott that me, Lola, and Leni are sharing." said Lana.
"That leaves me, Luna, and Luan." said Lori.
"Very well." said Lisa. With that, the groups run off to explore the new area.
What new Pokemon will they find in Deertrack Heights? What challenges await them as their work on the pokedex continues?
