The Journey Begins
The next morning, Lincoln and Sam woke up and had breakfast with their Pokemon. Once every has eaten, Lincoln and Sam start packing stuff for their trip to Oreburgh.
"So, are you done getting packed yet, bro?" Sam asked Lincoln from her bedroom.
"Almost, sis." Lincoln replied as he puts a jar of peanut butter into his backpack. A minute later, the two finished packing, and meet up in the living room.
"Ready to go?" asked Sam.
"As I'll ever be." said Lincoln. The two exit the house and lock the door behind them. As they head down Route 202, they hear approaching foosteps coming from behind them, making them look back to see Dawn running over to them.
"Hey, everyone!" said Dawn as she reaches them.
"Morning, Dawn." said Sam.
"Are you two off to Oreburgh?" Dawn asked them.
"Yeah, I'm gonna challenge the gym leader there." said Lincoln before he and Dawn blush after making eye contact; Sam chuckles at this.
"Can I tag along with you?" asked Dawn. "I want to give Lincoln my support."
"Maybe you can give him a kiss, also." said Sam in a teasing tone, making Lincoln and Dawn's faces turn completely red.
"Sam, would you stop already?!" Lincoln asked her.
"Sorry, bro." said Sam with a laugh. After the moment has passed, the three continue towards their destination. The three were soon approached by a young boy.
"Excuse me, but would any of you three be interested in a Pokemon battle?" the boy asked.
"Sure." replied Lincoln. Soon, he and the boy stood several feet from each other, holding a pokeball.
"Bidoof, go!" said the boy, throwing a pokeball and releasing a Bidoof.
"Let's go!" said Lincoln, throwing a pokeball and releasing a Bidoof.
"So, it's a battle between Bidoofs, eh?" said the boy. "Well, my Bidoof will beat yours. Bidoof, use Tackle!" The boy's Bidoof charges at Lincoln's Bidoof and rams her, but her attack went right through her. "What?!"
"Use Swift!" said Lincoln. His Bidoof jumps up and releases stars from her body that hit the boy's Bidoof, knocking it to the ground; it struggles to get up.
"Try Tackle again!" said the boy. The boy's Bidoof charges at Lincoln's Bidoof and rams her, but once again, the attack goes right through her. "Why isn't Tackle working?!"
"Okay; time to drop the illusion...Zorua." said Lincoln. Bidoof jumps up and does an aerial somersault; she transforms into the Hisuian Zorua.
"What is that?" asked the boy.
"This is a Hisuian Zorua." replied Lincoln. "Okay, Zorua, use Snarl!" Zorua lets out a loud yell, releasing purple soundwaves from her mouth and they hit Bidoof, knocking it out.
"No way!" exclaimed the boy.
"Great job, Zorua." said Lincoln.
"Way to go, little bro." said Sam.
"That was great." said Dawn. The boy returns Bidoof to its pokeball and walks over to Lincoln.
"Good battle." said the boy as he and Lincoln shake hands.
"Thanks." Lincoln replied.
"How come Bidoof's Tackles didn't work on your Zorua?" asked the boy.
"Unlike modern day Zorua, which are dark types; Hisuian Zoruas are part normal and part ghost types." Lincoln explained.
"So that's it." said the boy. He then reaches into his pocket, pulls out some pokedollars, and hands them to Lincoln.
"Why are you giving me money?" asked Lincoln.
"After a Pokemon battle between two trainers, the losing trainer has to give the winning one, half the money they have on them." explained Dawn.
"Really?" replied Lincoln. After the boy heads to Jubilife, Lincoln, Sam, and Dawn head there themselves to continue their journey. They exit the city through the east exit and continue on their way.
As they head down Route 203, a yellow, bipedal Pokemon with a brown chest and what looked like shoulder pads; and a long tail with a brown ring around it, appears out of nowhere, surprising them.
"Where did you come from?" asked Sam as she takes out her pokedex, and points it at the Pokemon.
"Abra, the Psi Pokemon. Even while asleep, it maintains a telepathic radar. It teleports when it is threatened." said the pokedex.
"Should we catch it?" asked Sam. Before anyone could say anything, the Abra teleports away.
"What do we do now?" asked Lincoln.
"Let's just keep going." said Sam. As they travelled down the road, they train up their Pokemon some more.
Lincoln's Chimchar learned Power-Up Punch, his Starly learned Double Team, and his Bidoof learned Headbutt.
Sam's Piplup got stronger, her Shinx learned Bite, and her Kricketune simply got stronger.
Right now, Lincoln and Dawn were watching as Sam was currently facing another trainer who just released a light blue, humanoid Pokemon that had three gray ridges on the top of its head. Lincoln had his pokedex pointed at the trainer's Pokemon.
"Machop, the Superpower Pokemon. Its muscles never cramp however much it trains. It lives in the mountains away from humans." said the pokedex.
"Come on out, Shinx!" says Sam as she releases the Pokemon from her pokeball. Shinx sees the Machop and growls menacingly at it, making it nervous, along with weakening his attack.
"That Intimidate ability is good to have against strong opponents." said Lincoln.
"Machop, use Leer!" says the trainer, making his Pokemon stare harshly at Sam's Shinx, making her nervous and lowering her defense.
"Shinx, use Charge!" said Sam. Shinx starts gathering electricity into herself, raising her special defense.
"Machop, use Low Kick!" said the trainer. Machop runs over to Shinx and swings its leg across the ground towards it, hitting her in the side.
"Shinx, use Thunder Shock!" said Sam. Shinx releases a jolt of electricity from her body which was powered up by Charge, hitting the Machop; it suddenly becomes coated in static electricity.
"I think it's paralyzed." said Lincoln.
"That works out for both of us!" replied the trainer with a smirk.
"What do you mean?" asked Sam. All of a sudden, the Machop's eyes glow red and a similar-colored aura coats its body.
"Machop has the Guts ability." said the boy. "Whenever he gets a status condition, his attack power increases. Machop, Low Kick!" Unfortunately for Machop, paralysis stops it from attacking.
"If Machop can't really move, then the power-up doesn't do any real good." said Sam. "Shinx, use Tackle!" Her Pokemon runs at the Machop and rams into his chest, knocking it to the ground unconscious.
"Machop!" shouts the trainer.
"You did it, sis!" said Lincoln.
"Way to go, Sam!" said Dawn. Machop's trainer returns Machop to its pokeball; its trainer then walks over to Sam.
"Good battle." said Machop's trainer as he gives Sam pokedollars.
"It was." replied Sam. She and Machop's trainer shook hands; Machop's trainer walks away. After Sam returns Shinx to her pokeball, Lincoln and Dawn join her and they continue walking down Route 203.
They soon reach the side of a mountain that had a cave opening in it.
"This must be Oreburgh Gate." said Sam.
"And on the other side of it is my first gym battle." said Lincoln.
"Shall we get going?" asked Dawn. With that, the two enter the tunnel to continue their journey.
