Lincoln vs Gardenia
After they got their Pokemon back after getting them treated, the group starts looking around for the Eterna City Pokemon gym.
"I can't wait to earn my next badge." said Lincoln with excitement.
"What do you think the gym leader is like?" asked Sam.
"And what Pokemon will you have to battle?" asked Stella.
"I'll find out once my battle starts." said Lincoln. The group ask around and find someone who points them towards a building that was covered in ivy.
"So that's the Pokemon gym." said Clyde. Just then, Lisa's drone lowers down in front of them.
"Hey, it's Lisa's drone." said Luna. Lincoln's Poketch suddenly emits a ringing tone. Lincoln pushes a button and a holographic screen, showing Lincoln's family and friends. (A/N: Except Rusty; he's no friend!)
"Hey, everybody; what's up?" asked Lincoln.
"Just thought we'd check to see how you kids are doing." said Lynn Sr.
"I'm just on my way to the Eterna City gym for my next gym battle." replied Lincoln.
"Sweet; can we watch?" asked Lynn Jr.
"Sure." replied Lincoln.
"I hope this gym battle is as cool as your first one." said Lana.
"Let's go!" said Lincoln as he starts to run towards the site of his next gym battle.
"Little bro's really eager." said Luna with a chuckle.
"Yeah, he's waited weeks for this." said Sam.
"Let's catch up with him." said Stella as she and the others run after Lincoln while followed by Lisa's drone. They soon reach the gym and go inside, as well as holding the door open so Lisa's drone can enter. They see a small arena that had trees and shrubs in the battle area.
"I'm guessing the gym leader here uses grass types." said Lincoln.
"You are correct!" said a female voice. They all look around and soon spot a woman with brown and black hair, wearing a black, long-sleeved, crop top; along with brown khaki shorts, a green cloak, and green boots with black laces; standing on a branch of a tree in the battle area.
"Hi." said Lincoln. "Are you the gym leader?" A glint appears in one of the woman's eyes before she leaps out of the tree, does a mid-air twirl, and lands a few inches in front of Lincoln.
"Yes, I am." said the woman. "I am Gardenia; the leader of the Eterna City gym!"
"My name is Lincoln Loud." said Lincoln.
"I'm his sister, Luna Loud." said Luna.
"I'm Sam Sharp." said Sam.
"I'm Lincoln's best friend, Clyde McBride." said Clyde.
"I'm his girlfriend, Stella Zhau." said Stella, making Dawn glare at her.
"I'm Dawn." said Dawn. The woman, now identified as Gardenia sees Lisa's drone hovering near them.
"What is this?" asked Gardenia.
"The rest of my family can't be here in person, so they're watching via my sister's security drone." replied Lincoln. Gardenia nods in understanding.
"My bro here wants to challenge you to a gym battle." said Luna.
"If he wants a battle, then I'll give him one!" said the woman, now known as Gardenia.
"I hope you give me a good one!" said Lincoln with a look of determination on his face.
"You better believe I will!" said Gardenia.
Soon, Lincoln and Gardenia were in the battle arena while Luna, along with Lincoln's friends were in the bleachers that overlooked it while the rest of Lincoln's family and friends watched from Royal Woods. An official soon steps out to the center.
"This is an official gym battle between the challenger, Lincoln Loud; and the Eterna City gym leader, Gardenia. Both trainers will use three Pokemon each. Whoever is able to defeat all of their opponent's Pokemon first will be the winner. Let the battle begin!" said the official before she steps off to the side.
"Here we go." said Lynn Jr.
"Hope you're ready." said Gardenia as she takes a pokeball off her waist.
"I've been ready for a while now!" said Lincoln as he takes a pokeball off his waist.
"Cherubi, go!" said Gardenia, throwing a pokeball and releasing a dark pink Pokemon that resembled a cherry. Sam takes out her pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Cherubi, the Cherry Pokemon. Sunlight colors it red. When the small ball is drained of nutrients and shriveled, evolution is near." said Sam's pokedex.
"Oh, that Pokemon's so cute!" said Lola.
"Too bad Lincoln has to battle it." said Leni.
"Does he have to?" asked Lola.
"Not if wants to win that badge." said Lucy from behind Lola, scaring her. Lincoln's Staravia and Gardenia's Cherubi faced each other.
"Go, Staravia!" said Lincoln, throwing Staravia's pokeball and releasing him. "Staravia, use Wing Attack!" Staravia flies towards Cherubi and raises one of his wings.
"Dodge it!" said Gardenia. Cherubi quickly leaps out of the way, dodging Staravia's attack.
"Whoa; that Pokemon's fast." said Luna.
"It's thanks to Cherubi's Chlorophyll ability." replied Gardenia. "Sunlight increases her speed." The group looks up and saw bright sunlight coming through a skylight.
"Fascinating." said Lisa.
"Now, Cherubi, use Dazzling Gleam!" said Gardenia. Cherubi releases a bright light from her body and it hits Staravia, damaging him.
"Staravia, Quick Attack!" said Lincoln. Staravia flies at Cherubi with incredible speed and rams her, knocking her to the ground; she gets back up.
"Cherubi, Tackle!" said Gardenia. Cherubi runs at Staravia and rams him, knocking him back.
"Use Growl!" said Lincoln. Staravia lets out a loud growl at Cherubi, weakening her attack strength.
"Use Dazzling Gleam!" said Gardenia. Cherubi releases another bright light from her body at Staravia.
"Double Team!" said Lincoln. Staravia splits into several copies of himself. The bright light hits one of them, but it was only a copy. "Now use Wing Attack!" The real Staravia flies at Cherubi and strikes her with his wing, dealing super effective damage.
"Morning Sun!" said Gardenia. Cherubi glows brightly and heals most of her wounds.
"Quick Attack!" said Lincoln. Staravia flies at Cherubi with incredible speed and rams her, landing a critical hit, knocking her to the ground; she struggles to get up.
"Quick, use Leafage!" said Gardenia. Cherubi spins around and releases glowing green leaves from her body and they hit Staravia, but not doing much damage.
"Wing Attack!" said Lincoln. Staravia swings his wing at Cherubi while it was still near him and strikes her, dealing super effective damage, and knocking her out.
"Cherubi is unable to battle; Staravia is the winner." said the official.
"Great job, Staravia." said Lincoln.
"You're doing great, Lincoln." said Stella.
"Go, Lincoln!" cheered Dawn, making Stella glare at her.
"Yeah, Lincoln!" cheered Lana from Royal Woods.
"Poor Cherubi." said Leni.
"Hey, don't forget we're supporting our brother." said Lori. Gardenia returns Cherubi to her pokeball.
"You did well, Cherubi." said Gardenia. She puts Cherubi's pokeball away and pulls out another one. "Go, Turtwig!" She throws a pokeball and releases a Turtwig.
"A Turtwig." said Luna.
"Staravia, Wing Attack!" said Lincoln. Staravia flies at Turtwig and raises a wing.
"Withdraw!" said Gardenia. Turtwig puts its limbs inside its shell and increases its defense before Staravia strikes it, dealing super effective damage, but not much due to Turtwig's increased defense. "Now use Tackle!" Turtwig lets its limbs out of its shell and charges at Staravia; it rams Staravia, knocking him to the ground.
"Quick Attack!" said Lincoln. Staravia gets up and flies at Turtwig with incredible speed; he rams Turtwig, but not doing much damage due to its increased defense.
"Use Grass Knot!" said Gardenia. Turtwig's eyes glowed light green; two glowing green vines come out of the ground and grabs Staravia. The vines slammed Staravia to the ground; he struggles to get up.
"Don't give up, Staravia; use Wing Attack!" said Lincoln. Staravia flies at Turtwig and strikes it with his wing, dealing super effective damage.
"Turtwig, use Tackle!" said Gardenia. Turtwig charges at Staravia and rams him, knocking him to the ground with swirly eyes.
"Staravia is unable to battle; Turtwig is the winner." said the official.
"Excellent work, Turtwig." said Gardenia.
"Poor Staravia." said Dawn.
"Don't give up, Lincoln!" said Stella.
"You can do it!" said Clyde.
"We believe in you, Lincoln." said Luan from Royal Woods.
"We sure do." said Liam. Lincoln returns Staravia to his pokeball.
"You were great, Staravia." said Lincoln. He puts Staravia's pokeball on his belt and pulls out another pokeball. "Monferno, go!" He throws Monferno's pokeball and releases him. "Monferno, use Ember!" Monferno releases of fire from his mouth and they hit Turtwig, dealing super effective damage and knocking it out.
"Turtwig is unable to battle; Monferno is the winner." said the official.
"Way to go, Monferno." said Lincoln. "Good thing this bright sunlight powers up fire type attacks."
"So, Ember was more powerful than it originally was?" asked Luna.
"Yep; learned that in Pokemon School." said Clyde. Gardenia returns Turtwig to its pokeball.
"You fought well, Turtwig." said Gardenia. She puts Turtwig's pokeball in her belt and pulls another pokeball out from it. "You're doing well, Lincoln; but you need to defeat my final Pokemon to win a badge. Go, Roserade!" She throws a pokeball, releasing a Roserade.
"A Roserade." said Stella.
"You ready for this, Monferno?" asked Lincoln, making Monferno look back at him and nod.
"Roserade, use Rain Dance!" said Gardenia. Roserade does a twirling dance, causing dark clouds to appear in the gym and start pouring rain.
"What's with the shower?" asked Luna.
"She's using Rain Dance to weaken Monferno's fire type moves." said Lincoln.
"Interesting how some moves manipulate the weather." said Lisa.
"But even with that, they will still be very effective against Roserade; Monferno, use Flame Wheel!" said Lincoln. Monferno does a fiery somersault at Roserade and slams into it, doing super effective damage; when Monferno stands upright, he starts to look ill.
"What's with Monferno?" asked Sam.
"Roserade's ability is Poison Point." said Gardenia. "Whenever a Pokemon hits her with a move requiring physical contact, the attacking Pokemon might get poisoned."
"That's not good." said Clyde. Monferno takes some damage from the poison, just as Roserade takes some sort of yellow berry out from her head and eats it, healing some of her injuries.
"What was that thing that Roserade just ate?" asked Clyde.
"A Sitrus Berry." said Gardenia. "It replenishes some health of the Pokemon that eats it."
"Isn't that cheating?" asked Luan.
"I don't think so." said Zach.
"Now, Roserade; use Magicial Leaf!" said Gardenia. Roserade spins around, releasing a barrage of glowing leaves from herself that hit Monferno, not doing much damage.
"Monferno, use Ember!" said Lincoln. Monferno releases bits of fire from his mouth that hit Roserade, dealing super effective damage; parts of her body suddenly catch fire.
"Roserade's burned, dudes!" said Sam.
"Looks like both Pokemon will lose stamina each turn." said Clyde. Monferno takes some damage from his poisoning while Roserade does the same from her burns.
"Roserade, use Poison Sting!" said Gardenia. Roserade releases a barrage of needles from her bouquet hands that hit Monferno, dealing damage.
"At least Monferno's already poisoned." said Dawn.
"Monferno, use Ember again!" said Lincoln. Monferno releases another spray of embers from his mouth that hit Roserade, dealing super effective damage; both Pokemon take more damage from their status conditions.
"Roserade, use Petal Blizzard!" said Gardenia. Roserade releases a flurry of petals from her bouquet hands.
"That move looks so pretty." said Lola with delight. The petals hit Monferno, not being very effective, but they still did a decent amount of damage; Monferno drops to one knee.
"Don't give up, Monferno!" said Lincoln. A red aura flares up from Monferno's body.
"Monferno's Blaze ability!" said Stella. Just then, the rain stopped.
"The rain's gone!" said Clyde. "Now Monferno's fire power should be back to its original strength.
"Use Flame Wheel!" said Lincoln. Monferno lets out a yell before doing another fiery somersault that was stronger than before thanks to his Blaze ability and slams right into Roserade, sending it flying past Gardenia into a tree where she loses consciousness.
"Roserade is unable to battle. Monferno is the winner. The winner of the battle is the challenger, Lincoln Loud." said the official.
"We did it, Monferno!" said Lincoln as he runs over to his Pokemon and gives him a hug.
"Way to go, buddy!" said Clyde.
"Lincoln won!" said Lynn Jr.
"Yeah, Lincoln!" said Lana.
"You go, partner." said Liam.
"Rockin!" said Luna.
"Way to go, Lincoln!" said Dawn and Stella before they glare at each other. While Lincoln gives Monferno an Antidote, Gardenia returns her Roserade to her pokeball.
"You were amazing, Roserade." said Gardenia before she puts the pokeball back in her belt; she walks over to Lincoln. "You raised your Pokemon well, Lincoln."
"Thanks, Gardenia." replied Lincoln. Gardenia reaches into her pocket and pulls out a green badge that resembled three trees.
"For your victory here in the Eterna Gym, I present you with the Forest Badge." said Gardenia; she gives Lincoln the Forest Badge, along with pokedollars.
"Yeah! I just won the Forest Badge!" cheered Lincoln, raising up the Forest Badge. Stella jumps out of the bleachers and runs to Lincoln; she tackles him to the ground and presses her lips against his, making him blush. Lincoln's sisters in Royal Woods giggle, Gardenia chuckles while Dawn glares angrily while holding up a fist that had a vein throbbing on it.
Lincoln has defeated Gardenia and has earned his second badge. What else awaits him and the others as their Sinnoh adventure continues.
