Lincoln vs. Katy
The next morning, after Lincoln and Clyde had breakfast, they make their way towards Cortondo for Lincoln's first gym battle, who takes the time to train up his new Tinkatink and Charcadet; his Tinkatink learned Covet and Rock Smash; and his Charcadet learned Will-o-Wisp and Fire Spin.
Soon, the two reach the outskirts of Cortondo and look around.
"Here's where I'm going to try and earn my first gym badge." said Lincoln.
"Do you think you can do it?" asked Clyde. "I heard that gym leaders are really strong."
"Maybe I should take the time to learn about what type of Pokemon the Cortondo gym leader uses." said Lincoln. "That way I'll know what Pokemon I should have in my gym battle."
"Good idea, buddy." said Clyde. As the group walks down the road, they smell a delicious aroma from nearby.
"What is that?" asked Lincoln with wonder in his eyes. The two look around and see a small bakery that had a large tree behind it that had stairs going up and around it leading up to a large platform at the top.
"Those cupcakes look so good!" said Clyde. He and Lincoln run over to the bakery and gawk at all the delectable looking treats they saw in a display case.
"Whoever made these must be very talented as a baker." said Lincoln as he drools at the sight of the cupcakes.
"Why, thank you, sweetie." said a female voice from behind them, making the two turn around to see a woman with teal hair and brown eyes, wearing a chef outfit which was a light-gray blouse with matching hat and gloves, a long brown skirt with a matching apron that had a spider web design on it, brown tights, and white shoes. Lincoln realizes he had a little drool on his mouth and quickly wipes it off.
"Sorry, ma'am." said Lincoln. "It's just that these cupcakes look and smell so delicious."
"It's quite all right, young man." said the woman with a smile.
"Did you make these?" asked Clyde.
"Yes." replied the woman. "My name is Katy; I run the bakery behind you; the Patisserie Soapberry."
"My name is Lincoln Loud." said Lincoln.
"And I'm Clyde McBride." said Clyde. The woman, now identified as Katy, looks the two over.
"I assume by your uniforms that you two are Naranja Academy students." said Katy.
"How did you know?" asked Clyde.
"We get a lot of trainers from there challenging the gym here." said Katy.
"Ummm, speaking of the gym; do you know where the Pokemon League building is?" asked Lincoln.
"It's right behind me." said Katy as she looks behind her to a building that had a pokeball emblem on it.
"Oh; thank you." said Lincoln.
"Are you going to challenge the gym leader?" asked Katy.
"Yes, ma'am." said Lincoln.
"Well, do your best young man." said Katy. She walks towards her bakery while Lincoln and Clyde run over to the Pokemon League building and enter the lobby. Upon entering, they see Nemona standing near the front desk who notices them walk in.
"Lincoln! Clyde!" said Nemona as she runs over to the two.
"Hey, Nemona!" said Lincoln.
"I'm so glad you're challenging the gym!" said Nemona with enthusiasm.
"Yeah, I'm so excited also!" said Lincoln with equal enthusiasm.
"What brings you here?" asked Clyde.
"I want to give Lincoln my support when he battles the gym leader." said Nemona.
"Speaking of the gym leader; do you happen to know what type of Pokemon she uses?" asked Clyde.
"I heard somewhere that the gym leader here uses bug types." said Nemona.
"So, fire, flying, and rock type Pokemon would have an advantage?" replied Lincoln.
"Yes, and also steel and fighting type Pokemon can easily handle bug type moves." said Nemona.
"Thanks, Nemona." said Lincoln.
"Give it your all in your gym battle, Lincoln." said Nemona.
"You got it." said Lincoln as he walks over to the front desk where a staff member was at a computer.
"Are you here for a gym battle, young man?" asked the staff member.
"You bet I am!" said Lincoln.
"Very well." said the staff member. "And just so you know, in order to earn the right to challenge the gym leader, you'll need to do a Gym Test."
"Gym Test?" replied Lincoln.
"All gyms here in Paldea require you to do challenges called Gym Tests to prove yourself worthy to challenge the gym leaders." said the staff member.
"What's the Gym Test here?" asked Lincoln.
"It's called the Olive Roll." said the staff member. "You're simply required to push a large, olive-shaped ball through a small maze to a large straw basket at the end of it."
"That doesn't sound so bad." said Lincoln. The staff member sends the Gym Test's location to Lincoln's Rotom Phone. As he, Clyde, and Nemona leave the building to go where the staff member told Lincoln to go, Lincoln decides to call his family and let them know what he's up to. The screen then shows his family, Clyde's dads, and friends in the Louds' living room, sitting on, or standing around the couch.
"Hi, son." said Lynn Sr.
"What are you up to?" asked Rita. Lincoln tells them all about his upcoming Gym Test.
"That sounds like fun." said Luan.
"I hope you do your best." said Rita. Just then, Nemona drapes her arms over Lincoln's shoulders and across his chest as she looks at the screen with her head resting on one of Lincoln's shoulders, who everyone at the Loud house notices.
"Who's that?" asked Lori. Lincoln looks over at Nemona.
"This is Nemona, the girl I told you all about before." said Lincoln.
"Well, it's nice to finally meet you, young lady." said Lynn Sr.
"Nice to meet you all, too." said Nemona with a smile.
"I'm glad that Linky's making friends there in Paldea." said Leni.
"Yeah, I like hanging out with him a lot." said Nemona with a smile.
"We can see that." said Lola with a smirk. Nemona and Lincoln look at each other. then both of them look at Nemona's arms around Lincoln's chest, making the two blush, and Nemona quickly let go.
"Oh, don't mind us." said Lori with a big smile on her face as she and her sisters giggle, and Ronnie Anne frown.
"A-A-Anyway, I'm gonna do my Gym Test now if you all want to watch." said Lincoln, hoping to change the subject.
"Sure." said Luna with a smirk as she looks at Nemona. Lincoln sighs with exasperation as the three continue to walk until they reach their destination. They see a large maze with another staff member standing near the entrance gate leading inside.
"Are you Lincoln?" asked the staff member.
"Yes I am." said Lincoln. The staff member looks up a small ramp that had the olive-shaped ball that Lincoln was told about.
"There's the ball you're to roll to the end of the maze." said the staff member. "When you manage to do so, you'll pass the Gym Test."
"I'll do my best." said Lincoln. He enters the maze with his Rotom Phone hovering behind him, and goes to the top of the ramp where he starts pushing the olive ball which wasn't as easy as he thought it was going to be; we mean, pushing a round ball is simple, but an olive-shaped one isn't as much, considering that its shape made it move at different angles unexpectedly; but he soon got the hang of it and managed to reach the goal.
"You did it, Lincoln!" said Lana.
"That was harder than I thought it was going to be." Lincoln admitted.
"It was an oddly shaped ball." said Lisa.
"I wouldn't mind trying that." said Lynn Jr.
"We know you wouldn't." said Lynn Sr. Lincoln then makes his way back to the maze entrance where his friends and staff member were waiting.
"Congratulations, Lincoln." said the staff member. "Please report back to the Pokemon League building and report your success."
"Okay." said Lincoln. He goes back to the Pokemon League building with his friends following after him, and reports to the staff member there.
"Congratulations on passing your Gym Test, Lincoln." said the staff member.
"Thank you, sir." replied Lincoln. The staff member then tells Lincoln where his gym battle was going to be which was at the top of the large tree behind the Patisserie Soapberry bakery he and Clyde saw when they first arrived in Cortondo. The three head to the tree and go up to the top of it to see a Pokemon battle arena on top of the platform.
"Hello, Lincoln." said a familiar voice. Lincoln looks to see Katy on one side of the arena.
"Hi, Katy." said Lincoln.
"Who's that?" asked Lucy.
"That's Katy." said Lincoln. "She owns a bakery here in Cortondo."
"What are you doing here?" Clyde asked Katy.
"Well, aside from being the baker at the Patisserie Soapberry, I'm also the Cortondo gym leader." said Katy, surprising Lincoln and Clyde.
"Really?!" replied Lincoln.
"Yes, and it appears that you're my next challenger." said Katy with a smile. Lincoln nods and walks over to the other side of the arena and stands across from Katy. A man walks to the center of the platform and looks at the two trainers.
"This is an official gym battle between the gym leader, Katy; and the challenger, Lincoln Loud." said the man. "Both trainers will use three Pokemon; the battle will end when all three of a trainer's Pokemon are unable to battle. Let the match begin." The man steps out of the arena and Lincoln and Katy each pull out a pokeball. Katy throws hers, releasing a dark gray, grasshopperlike Pokemon with winglike protrusions on its back.
"What's that Pokemon?" asked Clyde as he takes out his pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Nymble, the Grasshopper Pokemon. It has its third set of legs folded up. When it's in a tough spot, this Pokémon jumps over 30 feet using the strength of its legs." said Clyde's Rotom Phone.
"That Pokemon sounds like its legs are as strong as mine." said Lynn Jr.
"Probably stronger." said Lisa, making Lynn Jr glare at her. Lincoln throws his pokeball, releasing his Tinkatink.
"That Pokemon looks so cute!" said Lola.
"She's called a Tinkatink." said Lincoln. Katy was ready to make her move.
"Nymble, use Screech!" said Katy. Her Nymble releases a high-pitched noise at Tinkatink, making her cover her ears, and lowering her defense significantly.
"Tinkatink, use Metal Claw!" said Lincoln. Tinkatink moves at the Nymble and strikes it with her hammer, damaging it; a surge of energy rises up from her.
"What's going on?" asked Lana.
"Metal Claw has a chance of increasing the attack power of the Pokemon that used it." explained Lincoln.
"Nymble, Double Kick!" said Katy. Her Nymble leaps at Tinkatink and lands two strong kicks to her, doing more damage than it normally would've thanks to her defense being lowered by Screech.
"Tinkatink, use Covet!" said Lincoln. Tinkatink moves endearingly towards the Nymble, then strikes it hard with her hammer when she got close enough, doing more damage than normal thanks to her increased attack strength.
"Nymble, use Leech Life!" said Katy. Her Nymble leaps at Tinkatink and bites down on her, not really doing much to her, but it did drain a little of her stamina, which it uses to heal itself a bit.
"Tinkatink, use Fairy Wind!" said Lincoln. Tinkatink releases a large blast of pink wind from her body that hits the Nymble, sending it flying to the floor, unconscious.
"Nymble is unable to battle. Tinkatink is the winner." said the man.
"You did it, Tinkatink!" said Lincoln. Tinkatink raises up her hammer, and shouts in triumph.
"Way to go, buddy!" said Clyde.
"Keep it up, Lincoln!" said Nemona.
"That was pretty good." said Lynn Jr.
"Keep it up, brah!" said Luna. Katy returns her Nymble to its pokeball.
"You've earned a good rest, Nymble." said Katy. She puts Nymble's pokeball away and pulls out another one; she throws it, releasing a Tarountula.
"AUUUUGGGGGHHHHHH! SPIDER!" shouts Leni as she and Lynn Sr hide behind the couch.
"Is she okay?" asked Nemona.
"Leni's afraid of spiders." explained Clyde.
"I'm guessing Lincoln's dad is also?" asked Nemona.
"Yep." said Clyde. Back at the battle, Lincoln was ready for action.
"Tinkatink, use Baby-Doll Eyes!" said Lincoln. Tinkatink's eyes widen and sparkle, making Tarountula look at her with adoration, and lowering its defense.
"Tarountula, use Pounce!" said Katy. Tarountula pounces onto Tinkatink and drives into the floor, not doing much to her; but the attack did lower her speed. Tinkatink struggles to her feet.
"Tinkatink, use Metal Claw!" said Lincoln. Tinkatink swings her hammer at Tarountula, hitting it, and giving himself another power boost.
"Tarountula, use Leech Life!" said Katy. Tarountula jumps at Tinkatink and bites down on her, sucking out some of her stamina and uses it to heal itself a bit.
"Tinkatink, use Fairy Wind!" said Lincoln. Tinkatink releases another gust of pink which sends Tarountula flying and knocks it out.
"Tarountula is unable to battle. Tinkatink is the winner." said the man.
"Yes! Way to go, Tinkatink!" said Lincoln. Tinkatink turns towards Lincoln and smiles.
"Keep it up, Lincoln!" said Nemona.
"Just one more to go!" said Clyde.
"That's literally amazing." said Lori.
"Is the scary spider gone?" asked Leni as she pokes her head out from behind the couch.
"Yes, Leni; it's gone." said Rita, making Leni and Lynn Sr sigh with relief. Katy returns Tarountula to its pokeball.
"You did your best, Tarountula." said Katy before putting its pokeball back into her apron. "I must say, Lincoln; you're doing quite well."
"Thank you, ma'am." said Lincoln. Katy puts Tarountula's pokeball back into her apron and pulls out her last one; she throws it, releasing a brown, bipedal, bear cub-like Pokemon that had a crescent moon-shaped mark on its forehead.
"IT'S SO CUTE!" said Lola. Clyde takes out his Rotom Phone and points it at the Pokemon.
"Teddiursa, the Little Bear Pokemon. This Pokémon discreetly follows Combee to find their hive. It scoops up big dollops of honey in its palms to eat." said Clyde's Rotom Phone.
"Man, I don't want to hurt it, but I don't have a choice." said Lincoln.
"Why is she using that?" asked Clyde. "Doesn't she use bug type Pokemon?" Katy smiles as she reaches into her apron and pulls out a Tera Orb.
"A Tera Orb?!" exclaimed Lincoln. Katy smiles as she throws it over Teddirusa, making crystal pillars rise up around it; they soon shatter, showing Teddiursa with crystallized fur, and insect antenna on its head.
"It's so sparkly!" said Lola.
"This must be the Terrastalization phenomenon Lincoln told me about a while back." said Lisa.
"And just so you know, my Teddirusa's Tera Form is bug type." said Katy with a smile.
"Tinkatink, hurry and use Baby-Doll Eyes!" said Lincoln. Tinkatink quickly gives the Teddiursa a sparkly-eyed stare which lowers its attack power.
"Teddiursa, use Fire Punch!" said Katy. Teddiursa's right paw becomes engulfed in fire as it runs at Tinkatink and punches her, doing enough super effective damage to knock her out.
"Tinkatink is unable to battle. Teddiursa is the winner." said the man.
"Excellent work, Teddiursa." said Katy. Teddiursa waves its arms up and down in celebration.
"Don't worry, Lincoln." said Clyde.
"Yeah, you got two more Pokemon you can use." said Nemona.
"Don't give up, Linc!" said Lynn Jr.
"Keep battling!" said Lana. Back at the battle, Lincoln was returning Tinkatink to her pokeball.
"You did awesome, Tinkatink." said Lincoln before putting Tinkatink's pokeball back on his waist and pulling off another one; he throws it, releasing his Charcadet. He then reaches into his pocket and pulls out his Tera Orb.
"So, you have one of those as well?" asked Katy.
"Yes, ma'am; and I know how to use it." said Lincoln as he throws his Tera Orb over Charcadet, making crystal pillars appear around him, then shatter, showing him with crystal skin and a crystal candelabra on his head.
"Cool!" said Lana.
"Charcadet, use Fire Spin!" said Lincoln. Charcadet's crystal candelabra flares up, followed by a vortex of fire appearing around the Teddiursa, doing super effective damage to it. "Good thing Charcadet's Tera Form is fire; that powers up his fire attacks."
"Teddiursa, use Payback!" said Katy. Dark streams of energy come out of Teddiursa, hitting Charcadet, damaging him. "Payback's damage is doubled when the Pokemon using it takes damage before using it." Teddiursa suddenly takes more damage from the Fire Spin it's still trapped in.
"Lincoln, you better do something quick!" said Clyde.
"Wait, since Teddiursa's a bug type instead of a normal type, it's not immune to ghost type moves right now." said Lincoln. "Charcadet, use Astonish!" Charcadet turns around, then quickly turns back around towards Teddiursa, startling it, making it stumble back and trip over its feet, hurting itself, and making it flinch.
"That was clever; taking advantage of Teddiursa's Tera Form making him vulnerable to ghost moves." said Katy. Teddiursa suddenly takes more damage from the Fire Spin.
"Charcadet, hurry and finish this with Ember!" said Lincoln. Charcadet's candelabra flares up again as it releases more bits of fire from his mouth covering, hitting it, and doing just enough damage to shatter its Tera Form, and knock it out.
"Teddiursa is unable to battle. Charcadet is the winner. The winner of the match is the challenger, Lincoln Loud." said the man.
"You did it, buddy!" said Clyde.
"That was awesome!" said Nemona.
"Poor Teddirusa." said Lola with a pout.
"Hey, who's side are you on?!" asked Lana.
"Yeah, support family!" said Lynn Jr. Lola leans towards Lynn Jr.
"Like how you wanted Lincoln's support so much that you'd threaten him with a baseball bat to get it?" Lola whispered to Lynn Jr, making her look away with shame. "But I guess I really should be happy that Linky won."
"Totes." said Leni. Katy returns her Teddiursa to its pokeball.
"You did your best, Teddiursa." said Katy before putting its pokeball away before walking over to Lincoln. "That was a great match."
"Thank you, Ms. Katy." said Lincoln. Katy reaches into her apron and pulls out a small round badge that had a green, beetle-shaped, symbol on it.
"As proof of your victory, I present you with the Cortondo City Gym's Bug Badge." said Katy as she then hands the badge to Lincoln.
"Yes! I just won the Bug Badge!" said Lincoln as he holds it up in triumph. Clyde and Nemona run over to him.
"Way to go, buddy!" said Clyde.
"You were great!" said Nemona as she hugs Lincoln and nuzzles his cheek, making him blush a bit; the sounds of Lincoln's sisters giggling make Nemona quickly let go with a blush on her face.
"Great job, son!" said Lynn Sr.
"We're so happy for you, Lincoln." said Rita.
"We're all glad you won, Lincoln." said Howard McBride.
"That was pretty cool." said Ronnie Anne before frowning towards Nemona's image on the Louds' TV screen.
"And also, to commemorate your victory, I'm giving you and your friends a plateful of my deluxe cupcakes." said Katy with a smile. The Loud sisters' eyes light up upon hearing that.
"Cupcakes?!" said Lola with interest. Later at one of the tables on one of the balconies that are connected to the stairs around the tree; Lincoln, Clyde, and Nemona were sitting down, eating the cupcakes that Katy promised them while Lincoln's sisters and friends watched while drooling.
"Those cupcakes look mighty tasty." said Liam as he licks his lips.
"I'll say." said Rusty.
"They taste way better than they look, and I didn't think that was possible." said Lincoln as he takes another bite.
"But mine are better; right, son?" asked Lynn Sr. Lincoln swallows the mouthful he had before letting out a sigh.
"Sorry to say this, Dad; but these cupcakes are so delicious that they make the ones you make taste like something Lana wouldn't touch." said Lincoln, making Lynn Sr pout. "Don't be like that; if you tasted one, you'd have to agree."
Lincoln has defeated Katy and earned his first gym badge. What other challenges await Lincoln and Clyde as their Treasure Hunt continues?
