Chapter 8

"What do we do now?" I asked.

"Let's go find Ash," said Latias, "with his help, I'm sure we can save my brother,"

"Ok, he's staying at the Pokemon Center," I said.

"Alright, let's go!" said Latias.

Latias and I turned invisible and flew to the Pokemon center to go and find Ash.

"Psst, do you know what room he's in?" asked Latias.

"Um, room 16 on I think," I replied.

I was about to head for the front door when I realized that it would be locked by now.

"Great, how are we going to get in if the Pokemon Center is closed?" I asked.

"Don't worry," said Latias, "I know how to get in,"

She slowly flew around the Pokemon Center, muttering to herself. I was confused as to what she was doing until it hit me. Of course! We could go through the window! I joined Latias in the search and eventually found the correct window.

"I found it Latias!" I called, but when I tried to open the window, I found it was stuck. "Darn! It's locked!"

"No problem," said Latias, her eyes glowing with that mysterious power that I really wanted to unlock. "There we go!" she said as the glowing stopped and the window swung open.

"I wish I could do that," I said.

"Don't worry, you'll get it eventually," replied Latias, "it just takes time."

"Ok," I sighed, "so, should we go in?"

"Yeah, let's go," said Latias.

So Latias and I squeezed ourselves through the window and turned into our human forms.

"Ash!" I called.

"Michael?" I heard a voice call. I looked around and saw Pikachu standing near us. "Latias? What are you two doing here? We're trying to get some sleep here,"

"Pikachu!" I heard Ash call drowsily, "Where are you going? Huh? Michael? Latias? What are you doing here?"

"Well Ash," I began, "we're kinda in a situation…"

I explained what had happened in the garden.

Ash's eyes instantly snapped open. "They did what?! We have to go help Latios!"

"Ah yes," said Pikachu, "time to save more legendaries! Lead the way!"

"Speaking of which," I said, "do you know where Latios is Latias?"

'I'm not sure, hold on, I'm getting something,' Latias transformed into her true form and her eyes started to glow. All of a sudden, my vision blacked out and was replaced by a vision of a dimly lit room.

"Where are we?" asked Ash.

'My brother and I are using sight sharing,' said Latias telepathically, 'it allows us to see exactly what the other is seeing.'

As I looked around, or rather, as Latios looked around, I could see Lorenzo and Bianca tied up in one corner by what looked like more of the spider's web. One of the two women from earlier was in some sort of giant machine and the other was standing by with their pokemon. I could tell that Lorenzo was shouting at the two women to stop. It seemed to be doing no good, however, because they simply laughed and ignored him. Just then, the vision flickered as the machine drained some of Latios' energy.

The woman in the machine started waving her hands over the dashboard and two skeletons in the floor started to glow. "Kabutops! Aerodactyl! Rise!" The fossils glowed even brighter before the bones came out of the ground and materialized into two pokemon. One looked like a pterodactyl and the other looked like a brown bony dinosaur with two sharp blades for arms. "Kabutops, Aerodactyl, go get that Latias for me!" yelled the woman in the machine. At this, Latios squealed a warning, and the sight-sharing cut out.

'We better hurry,' said Latias, 'those pokemon could be coming for us at any moment.'

"Ready Pikachu?" asked Ash.

"Ready as always," said Pikachu.

"Here Ash, climb on," I said, turning into my Latiform and lowering myself.

Ash got on me and Pikachu hopped on Latias. I noted that he was a lot lighter than David. We then made our way to where Latios was being held.

After a short ride, we halted in front of a large museum. Ash quickly got off me and Pikachu hopped after him. Latias and I followed, and we soon came to a large room I recognized from Latios' sight-sharing earlier.

"Stop this right now!" yelled Ash as soon as he was within earshot of the two villainous women, "Pikachu, use thunderbolt, full power!"

"Take this!" yelled Pikachu, shooting a large bolt of lightning at one of the women as well as both of their Pokemon.

"Michael!" said Latias, "Quick, while Ash distracts them we need to free Latios!"

"Right," I said. I looked to where Latios was being held. Several rings were encircling him, forming a sphere with their rotation.

"Brother! Are you ok?"

"I'm… ok… sis… please… just… stop… the machine,"

I looked over to where the other woman was operating the machine. I knew there had to be some way to stop it so I tired into the capsule she was sitting in. However, it kept moving so I couldn't get a good hit on it. I kept trying but just got more and more frustrated.

"What's wrong? Can't hit me?" asked the woman in the capsule with a mock-tone voice.

I growled, growing angrier and angrier. I wished there was something that I could do. I looked at Ash and Latias, Ash and Pikachu were battling the blond-haired women's pokemon with all their effort. It looked like no one was winning even though it was two versus one. Ash gave me a thumbs-up. "You can do it, Michael!"

I looked at Latias. She was trying with all their might to get Latios out of the machine. However, there seemed to be an invisible barrier preventing her from getting to him. That didn't stop her from trying, though. "Come on Michael, we're all counting on you!" she yelled as she rammed into the barrier once again.

I closed my eyes. I knew I had to do this. Somehow, someway, I had to overpower that machine. I remembered when I had accidentally made my claw shine and smashed my desk with almost no effort. 'Maybe, just maybe,' I thought. I concentrated hard on my claw, trying to force some power into it. At first, I got nothing, but after what seemed like an eternity, my claw started to glow very faintly. As I put more and more effort into it, it started to glow brighter and brighter. Eventually, it shone so brightly, I had to squint my eyes from the light. I knew what I had to do. Preparing all the speed I had, I flew to the machine's control capsule and thrust my claw directly into the control board.

The screen shattered on impact and the machine began to shut down. I looked over to Latios and Latias and saw that the cage holding had fallen to the ground. Latios looked weak but ok, and Latias was trying to help him get up. I glanced at Ash just in time to see Pikachu deal a final blow to their pokemon with a powerful thunderbolt.

I decided to check up on Latios first. "Latios! Are you ok?" I asked, flying over to them.

Latios smiled weakly. "I've been better, but thanks to you I got out of that machine before it drained all of my energy."

"Pikachu, can you use a light thunderbolt please?" asked Ash. I turned to see Ash and Pikachu trying to cut through the sticky web that was holding Lorenzo and Bianca. It seemed to work as the web was eventually destroyed by Pikachu's thunderbolt.

"Latios! Latias! Are you two ok?" asked Bianca, running over to us.

'I'm fine,' said Latios telepathically, 'I just need some rest to recover my energy,'

Relieved, I looked up at where the Soul Dew was. The first thing I noticed was that it seemed to be glowing a blackish color instead of its usual blue. 'Uh, Lorenzo,' I said, 'is the Soul Dew supposed to be that color?'

Everyone turned to look at the Soul Dew. Lorenzo gave a startled gasp. "No, that is not good… We have to get the Soul Dew back immediately!"

Before any of us could get to the Soul Dew, however, the blond-haired woman climbed up to the pedestal and reached out to grab the Soul Dew.

"Wait! Don't touch that!" shouted Lorenzo.

It was too late. She touched the Soul Dew and it shattered into hundreds of tiny pieces. Instantly, she was flung back into the machine and it started spinning faster and faster.

"Oh, no," said Lorenzo, "this is not good."

"What happened?" asked Ash.

"Have a look for yourself," he replied, gesturing to the window.

We looked out of the window to see the water in the channels rushing into the ocean.

'Is the water draining out of the city?' I asked.

"Yes," said Lorenzo, "and I'm afraid it's all coming back."

I gasped as I saw a huge tidal wave forming out in the ocean and slowly heading toward us.

"Sister," said Latios, "you know what we have to do."

"But…" said Latias.

"No buts," interrupted Latios, "I wish it didn't have to be this way, however, as guardians of this city we must protect it."

"Alright," sighed Latias, "Michael?"

"Yeah?" I asked.

"We have to go stop that wave from destroying the city," said Latias, "thank you for helping me save my brother, and tell Ash thanks as well, we may not survive this."

"Latias…" I began.

"No," she said, "it's final."

"Could I help you?" I asked, not really wanting to, but feeling that it would be right to help them.

"I'm sorry Michael, but I can't drag you into this. You've already gotten injured because of me,"

"It wasn't your fault I got hurt," I said, "you couldn't help it."

"I know," said Latias, "but this is something me and my brother must do,"

"Alright," I said, hoping that they would make it.

"Ready sis?" asked Latios.

Latias took a deep breath. "Yep, I'm ready,"

"Ok then, on the count of 3. 1…2…3…"

Latios and Latias speed out of the museum, towards the massive tidal wave.

"Where are they going grandpa?" asked Bianca.

"As the guardians of Altomare, they must protect the city," said Lorenzo, "and so, I'm afraid that they must…"

"Wait," said Ash, "do you mean…?"

"Yes," said Lorenzo, "I'm afraid so,"

"I have a bad feeling about this," said Pikachu.

We waited for a few minutes, gazing toward the looming tidal wave that was slowly making its way toward the city. Suddenly, a bright light appeared slamming against the wave. As it did, the wave began to dissipate.

Just then, I got a telepathic message from Latias. 'Michael, no time to explain. Just grab Ash and get over here! Hurry!'
