Hours Later
In the morning
The James home was comfortable. Colorful and modest. Haley wanted Sadie to have the stability of a real home and managed to purchase one all on her own. When Sadie was a toddler.
She went out of her way to give her daughter all she could. She rarely spent money on herself besides what was needed.
Sadie was her life. Her motivation to go back to college to graduate. To follow her dreans at all. But as time went on she began to wonder if her dream of being a singer.
Was going to be nothing but a pipe dream. The reality was.
She had a child to support and she needed the stability of a job that was steady. And she couldn't count on being a singer.
Sadie came bursting through the door with her house key.
"So i was going to go to school today but i overslept and by the time i woke up uncle Lucas and aunt Brooke were already at their jobs."
"I can just write a note and excuse me not being there today." Sadie explained.
"That's okay. Sometimes you just need a day." Haley replied.
Sadie breathed a sigh of relief. "Waffles. Sausage patties. Eggs with cheese. Yum i'm so hungry."
"How was you're performance momma?" Sadie asked. As she went over to the counter and poured herself a cup of coffee. Then adding sugar and creamer to it before sitting down at the table.
Haley sighed as she thought over the night. Her performance was exactly how she thought it would but the encounter with Nathan tainted what she thought was going to be her big night.
"Nothing to report. Coffee isn't good for you're growth. I've told you this." Haley replied.
"I'm already short it won't make me shorter." Sadie replied.
"What's going on in the life of the young and hopeful?" Haley questioned.
"My grades are great. I have a birthday party coming up and everyone is talking about that new family that moved in across town."
"Some basketball player and his wife runs a record label."
"They have a kid too. She's only 2 years younger then me." Sadie announced.
Haley nearly spit out her coffee.
"Really. Did you hear anything else about them?" Haley questioned.
"No but i'll probably look them up. You know i love learning about new neighbors." Sadie replied.
"Can we got vintage shopping?" Sadie questioned.
"Sure after school." Haley replied.
The two soon finished their breakfast and Sadie went upstairs to double check that she didn't forget anything.
While Haley packed and put away Sadie's lunch in her book bag.
And quickly composed herself.
"You know in a few years i'll be able to drive myself to school." Sadie joked. As she came back down.
"That's six long years away. Let's go." Haley replied.
...
Nathan clutched the envelope. Opening it as he looked through the various pictures of Sadie through the years.
Grateful for the glimpses into her life. He knew it was Lucas who sent these to him and he knew seeing her at a distance was all he would ever get and he cherished it.
