Cordelia looked puzzled and looked around.
"Something wrong?" Xander asked
"I could have sworn I heard Phoebe calling for help."
"Maybe you did." Xander told her. "Whitelighters can hear their charges, remember? Phoebe's powers advanced, maybe yours are too. You two do seem to be advancing faster than Prue and definitely faster than Piper."
"Just in case, I should go see."
"I'm going with, if she's in trouble, you may need backup. We don't fight alone, Cordy." He said firmly.
She smiled and took his hand in hers and centered her thoughts on Phoebe and gathering her power, orbed to her, materializing in an apartment she didn't recognize. Phoebe was crouched over a man lying on the floor.
"It's Cole!" Xander exclaimed. "I mean I've only met him a couple of times, but I recognize him. What happened to him?"
"He said he'd been attacked, stabbed and than he passed out. He said he can't go to the hospital. Please, Cordelia, help him." Phoebe begged.
Cordelia activated her healing power and held her hand over the wound. "We can always erase -. Ow!" She exclaimed, yanking her hand away as sparks flew from the wound, hitting her hand and singeing it. "What the Hell is that?! That's never happened before."
"Phoebe, Cordelia, back up." Xander ordered. "He's not human."
"What are you talking about, Xander?!" Phoebe demanded, not moving. "Of course he's human, look at him!"
"Phoebe, he's Belthazor." Xander said flatly. "I'm reading him, he's the demon that the Genie told us about. The one Troxa and Andras mentioned. He was sent to kill us. Back up, I need to read him and don't want either of you getting hurt if he comes to before I get everything."
"He, he can't be." Phoebe protested as Cordelia drew her back away from Cole and Xander said "Vincire!" And imprisoned Cole in an energy ring. He narrowed his eyes and concentrated on reading the unconscious demon's mind. "Oh, gods." Xander muttered. "I don't believe it."
"Don't believe what?" Phoebe demanded. "What did you see?"
"He had a chance to kill you, but he stopped himself. He killed the Triad and he's being hunted by other demons. The Triad accused him of developing feelings for you. He's confused, he's never felt human emotions before. He's actually half human, half demon. Raised demon and now, now he's experiencing what being human is for the first time. He's trying to hold onto his human form and he's terrified of hurting you. I think he's actually feeling regret for sending Andras after you, of causing you pain. Just you currently, but two months ago he didn't feel anything at all."
"Are they real feelings or the weird obsessive kind Angel had?" Cordelia asked.
"I think the feelings might be genuine." Xander answered thoughtfully. "And he has no idea what to make of them or to do about them. He killed the Triad to keep them from sending other demons after you and because they told him the only way to avoid death himself was to kill you, he refused. He really doesn't want to hurt you or let anyone else hurt you."
"Is he two separate beings in one body?" Cordelia asked. "Like Angel was the soul and Angelus the demon? Or is he like Oz was, a shape shifter?"
"Like Oz." Xander answered after examining Cole's mind again. "But like the opposite, like wolfOz being in constant control and occasionally using the human part as a mask. His orders were to get close to the Charmed Ones to kill you guys and that meant letting the human part be dominate. Now the human part is trying to stay dominate and not let the demon part hurt you."
"Could we destroy the demon part and save the human part?" Cordelia asked. "Maybe give the human part a chance to grow and thrive without the demon suppressing it?"
"I'm not making him a techno vamp." Xander flatly. "We have no idea how the nanites would regard the demon part, for all we know they could decide the demon part is stronger, better somehow. They are physically stronger and many are naturally immortal. But if we concentrate on vanquishing the demon Belthazor and view Cole as separate from Belthazor, we might be able to."
"Piper and Prue have been working on a vanquishing potion for Belthazor." Phoebe told him. "If we write a spell to go with the potion and specifically word it to focus the Magic on Belthazor, we should be able to do it."
"Do we tell him first?" Cordelia asked. "It'll change his whole life."
"No." Xander decided. "We don't warn demons we're going to destroy them. Besides, he wants to be Cole, not Belthazor. He's used to power and immortality and it'll take time to adjust, but he already has a lot to adjust to anyway with human emotions."
"Does Cole qualify as an innocent?" Phoebe asked.
"Belthazor was given the orders and tried to carry them out, Cole fought them and feels bad about them." Xander said. "I think Cole does."
"Than I'm going to call Prue and Piper and have them bring the vanquishing potion." Phoebe decided. "And write a spell to vanquish Belthazor. I just have to convince them to help."
"And than we figure out the next step." Cordelia smiled softly at her sister. "And deal with any demons that come after him. And very carefully explain the situation to my parents and pray Daddy doesn't grab a gun and threaten him."
"If he really is falling in love with Phoebe, your father's not the only one who's going to be threatening him."
