"Who are all these people?" Natalie demanded as the kitchen filled up with people. "This is none of their business!"
"We're family." Cordelia informed her, as Kit jumped into her lap. "I'm Cordelia, by the way. Who are you?"
"Her name is Natalie." Leo answered. "We were rookie whitelighters together and served as medics together in WWII. She has some information on a darklighter that may be targeting the Charmed Ones."
"I'm also their new whitelighter, whether they like it or not."
"She's been trying to give orders since she got here." Piper said sourly. "She can't seem to get it through her head she's not supposed to do that."
"Why, just because that troublemaking elemental witch tried to dictate terms to the Elders?"
"I reminded them of their job description." Xander said mildly. "And pointed out the Powers outrank them and they're all about ensuring balance among supernatural beings and what they might decide to allow as a balance to your arrogance."
"We're not arrogant, we just know better what's going on then you do." She retorted.
"I'm just wondering," Charles said thoughtfully. "Isn't it your policy that all witches should, theoretically, have a whitelighter assigned to them. Who's job description is to advise, guide, counsel and heal, by the way."
"Ideally, yes, but there aren't enough whitelighters for every witch. What's your point?"
"Both my daughter and her life mate are witches, why have they never been assigned a whitelighter?"
"They began practicing on the Hellmouth, we can't go there. And they're not just witches."
"You're prejudice over the fact that they've been cursed to be a fictional type of vampire made real?" Margaret asked.
"No, of course not." Natalie protested. "But they are no doubt tainted by their time on the Hellmouth -."
"You think we're going to turn evil and aren't worth your time." Xander said flatly. "We're committed to not doing that, but I suppose you need time to get over your fear. That's alright, we have centuries to show that we refuse to be monsters. And we don't need you to believe in us, we just need to believe in ourselves and each other."
"And for the record these are my parents." Cordelia glared at Natalie. "They're also techno vamps and have been very supportive of us as witches and help us in a variety of ways."
"And this is my husband, Andy." Prue continued. "And his partner and best friend, Daryl. They're police officers and can and do aid us by conventional means to track demon activity and find innocents. Like Cordelia's parents, they help and support us. Our jobs are a lot easier to do because we have a team, a family, all dedicated to protecting innocents and fighting demons. Which is how we've managed two years without a whitelighter."
"And you?" Natalie glared at Phoebe. "Are you going to drag your boyfriend into all this too?"
"My boyfriend was born half demon, we vanquished his demon half and he's learning to be human. And no, he's not currently part of our demon hunting efforts. Just learning how to function as a human with no powers and a real job takes all of his energy."
"You'd taint your bloodline with a former demon?"
"Okay." Prue forestalled the imminent Phoebe explosion by redirecting the bitchy whitelighter's attention back to her. "Our private lives aren't any of your business, so get to the point about the darklighter and why you think he's targeting us."
"His name is Eames and last night he killed one of my charges. She had an extremely rare power, the power to deflect magical attacks."
"We're sorry for your loss." Xander said sympathetically. "But that doesn't explain why you think he's after the Charmed Ones."
"I'm getting to that. Eames has killed witches before. It wasn't until I saw him last night that we realized he wasn't just killing them, he was stealing their powers. He used an athame on my charge."
"What about the other witches?" Cordelia asked. "What did he get from them?"
"He killed a witch in Glasgow, Scotland who had the power to clone herself and he also killed a witch in Kenya in 1989 and she had the power of transmogrification."
"Transmogrification?" Phoebe asked, still smarting over Natalie's remarks.
"The power to shape shift." Natalie answered.
"So," Xander said. "shape shift, clone and deflection. He's been doing this for more then a decade, but has only killed three witches with rare and specific powers. The girls' powers aren't rare, not remotely, just far more powerful. Why do you think he's after the Charmed Ones?"
"It's obvious."
"I'm not a genius." Xander replied. "But I did take some AP classes, granted Math was definitely not one of them, but what you're saying isn't adding up to going after the Charmed Ones. He started nearly a decade before their powers went active. If he wanted to kill them he could have done it while they were helpless. Just look like one of their teachers or a friend and get close to them. Like I said, their powers aren't rare, just seriously amped up. Everyone in this room has protections on them, which would make it damn hard to get near any of us and if he was tracking down and killing your charge, than he hasn't been studying any of us, unless he has an accomplice. Possible, but unlikely. More likely, he's after what every darklighter is after, whitelighters."
"And until today, we weren't assigned a whitelighter." Prue pointed out. "So if he is after whitelighters, maybe the fact that he let you see him, means you're his target."
