A/N: Hey guys, chapter 2 is here! I can't believe so many follows on this story so quickly. Thank you all! If someone is good at making fanart, I am looking for a artist to make a cover art for me that display Naruto and Irelia. Can I get a PM if anyone is avaible for that? I have big plans for this story. I got the story outlined to chapter 10! I went back to chapter 1 and revised it. I will try and revise each previous chapter for mistakes as I upload the next. The next morning arrived rather quickly and Naruto was standing outside the house waiting for Oze. Irelia and Seira had left earlier to prepare everyone for the departure. He had actually slept way better than he had thought. However he did not have the best of dreams. Even though the old man said everyone was ok and happy. He had an alternative nightmare where that didn't happen. Instead everyone was stuck inside the Infinite Tsukuyomi, while Kaguya got to do what she wanted to do the first time again.
'It's not like you to be this negative minded. I didn't get that old Naruto transported with me did I?' Kurama asked.
Naruto looked at his partner with a frown. 'Hmmm maybe. I am feeling very hate filled right now.' He said sarcastically.
Kurama grunted in annoyance, which actually got Naruto to laugh. 'I am ok I swear, It's going to just take me a bit of time to move on.'
'I get it, but don't let the negative thoughts run your mind.'
'That's golden coming from you…'
'On second thought. Forget I even decided to be nice and help you brat.' Kurama growled. Ungrateful child.
'I really appreciate it Kurama. Thank you.' Naruto responded, opening his eyes and smiling. He knew Kurama was only trying to help. He just had to give him a hard time for all the times he's been sarcastic to him. If only the fox knew there would be plenty more.
Oze came out of the house, grabbing Naruto's attention. He got a good look at the big man, and saw that he was now sporting a giant battle axe that was equally as big as him.
"You ready?" Oze asked the blond. He saw that Naruto was now dressed in the short sleeved gray kimono shirt with the matching pants that Seira got him He also had on his black ninja sandals still. The issue Oze had, the boy was wearing that damn orange jacket he showed up in. "Do you need to wear that hideous thing?"
"Atleast I am wearing the clothes that was given to me! If it was left up to me, I would be still wearing my clothes I came here with." Naruto complained. Seira was adamant on him not wearing his eye-sore of a outfit. She did say he was allowed to wear his jacket until she took off all the stitching and put it on his new clothes.
"That color paints yourself as a target…" Oze responded with a deadpan stare.
"Irelia wears red?! Is that any better?"
"No she's a target too, but she can back herself up in the fields."
"And you think I can't?"
"Never said you couldn't. I'm sure you will be an idiot like her and run in. People that wear bright colors normally do." Oze stated as he started to walk away. Naruto was going to retort, but bit his tongue.
'This guy sure knows how to piss you off.' Naruto thought before he calmed himself. He knew Oze was probably doing it out of his own caring way. The guy was the type to be mean, but really meant well.
"So can I get a rundown of what I am getting into? I know you guys are at war with Noxus. Why?" He asked. They never got around to talking about it last night. Instead he was telling them of life in his old world. Telling them of all the people he has met and what was going on until he ended up in Ionia.
Oze sighed as he stopped walking. He turned to look at Naruto. It was only fair that he knew, if he was going to be helping them. "We honestly don't know what the reason for the war is. As far as most of us know, it's just to add us into the empire."
Naruto started to scowl at that response. Conquerors? His mind started to remember back to that time when he had the cycle of hatred talk with Nagato. All the big nations fought, the little ones were dragged into it. He was brought out of his thoughts when Oze spoke up.
"The Noxians goal was to try to get us to submit first, and if not then we are killed. However they weren't expecting the majority of us to fight back. So they have been making it their mission to slaughter us at every interval. However, the tide of the war changed when Irelia took that general's arm and defeated him at the Placidum of Navori a few years ago."
Naruto eyebrows rose in surprise. He noticed Oze said that with some pride when he spoke of Irelia. He had noticed Irelia was very respected here. It also seemed like in his short time here, she was a very busy woman.
"Are you ok?" Oze asked to bring Naruto out of his thoughts. The young lad had gotten quiet and was staring off into space.
"Yeah I am ok, just thinking of some stuff back home." Naruto responded with a sad smile. Oze nodded his head and saw they were coming up to a large group of warriors and fighters.
'Looks like you might have found a rather qualified mate brat.' Kurama chirped in.
'Yeah she is pretty cool-... WAIT WHAT THE HELL YOU SAY?' Naruto shouted in his thoughts. Kurama let out a deep hearty chuckle as he ignored the fuming blond.
"Stupid fox…" Naruto said in annoyance. Oze raised an eyebrow as he looked at the young kid. He seemed a bit embarrassed now for some reason, what a strange young man.
"Is there anything else you want to know?"
Naruto was brought out of his fuming by Oze's question. He was going to ask some cultural questions, but a femine voice spoke up.
"Thank you all for being brave to follow me into this next daunting quest." Irelia said loudly. Everyone looked to see her sitting on a horse. "I know day by day we are wondering when will it be over. Tomorrow will be another obstabcle to overcome; so we can get one step closer to that dream. One step closer to ridding our lands of the invaders! I now ask for you to lend me your strength, to free more of our lands once more!" She shouted while raising a victory fist. There was a large amount of cheers from everyone gathered.
Naruto looked on in amazement as everyone rallied behind her words. 'She's pretty cool!' He thought.
'It's quite amusing to see how much humans can cling to others words for hope.' Kiurama said.
'What do you mean?' Naruto asked, confused.
'It's nothing to be taken as bad. I just find it interesting, that is all.' Kurama responded before closing his eyes.
"I know she's gorgeous Naruto, but you don't need to stare so hard." came a teasing female voice that made Naruto almost faceplant. Here we go again.
"W-wh-what?!" Naruto shouted as he looked at Seira in horror. She giggled as he put her hands up in mock surrender. A few nearby warriors found the interaction either amusing or weird.
"I would've thought you would have picked up that I am a teaser by now." Seira said as she stuck out her tongue. Naruto huffed as he looked away in embarassment. He was going to respond, but saw that everyone started to leave. Irelia was up towards the front on her horse.
"It's pretty cool how heroic she sounds. I was even motivated by that." Nartuo spoke up. Seira smiled at his statement.
"Yeah she is pretty awesome. She brings a big peace of mind to everyone and she has this presence that seems to draw everyone to her." Seira responded with the same type of pride that Oze had earlier.
"However, there is a massive burden on her shoulders. One where she thinks she needs to do everything alone. No seventeen year old should be shouldering the burden she has." Oze added in. Naruto looked at the big man in confusion and noticed Seira frowned.
"What do you mean?"
"We should talk about this in a more proper time. I'd rather it be just us." Seira responded, trying to focus on something else. Naruto looked towards Irelia and saw she was actually glancing back at. She gave him a small smile and Naruto returned it before she turned back around.
He would be sure to ask later.
The Ionain resistance arrived at a ridge that overlooked a valley. Irelia rode her horse closer to the ridge, and looked down to see the now Noxian occupied territory of Nafori.
She could see all the Iron machines and smoke coming from the occupied territory. She got that familiar sense of dread that she always got when coming up to a Noxian war camp.
Her thoughts were interrupted as Naruto walked up next to her. She saw the look of seriousness on his face and frowned. She truly felt bad, getting him dragged into a conflict he had nothing to do with. Last night when they were all talking, he said he was fine with fighting to help his friends. He was so easy going, and accepting to be friends with people that were skeptical of him hours before.
Naruto had spoken up, which broke Irelia's thoughts to herself. "Considering how country looking and relaxing the village we left, and now seeing tons of iron; obviously tells me it's not Ionian."
"That is correct. This is one of the occupied territories of Noxus that is one of the important ones we want to strike down." Irelia said.
"It's best if we set up camp, and go over the plans that we made. That way we can be ready to attack; is Le available for recon?" Oze spoke up, walking towards the two.
"I am always ready Captain Oze." said a shorter man dressed in a camouflaged type of attire. His pants and shirt almost matched the rocky terrain they were at. He also had what looked like a telescope, and some arrows with a bow strapped to his back.
"Good, you know the plan. Please be careful and try not to be gone too long. If not, we will be sending someone to find you." Irelia said sternly. They were in enemy territory now, and she knows their warband was not as big as the Noxus one in Weh'le. There was another group of warriors from the Kinkou order that would be arriving later this evening.
Naruto watched as the young recon scout was getting ready to depart. He instantly thought of an idea as he formed a cross with his fingers. Another Naruto appeared in a puff of smoke, shocking everyone nearby.
"I think an inside source would be evn better." Naruto said with a smile. "Can I see that for a second?" Pointing towards Le's telescope.
Uh… sure?" Le replied, as he grabbed it and handed it to the blond.
"What are you thinking about Naruto?" Irelia asked as she got off the horse now. Very interested in what he was planning.
"Just need to get a good look real-… perfect!" Naruto said, before he dropped the telescope. He made a hand seal with his hands and transformed into a perfectly dressed Noxian troop.
A few gasps were heard as everyone looked on in shock and fear. Before they could retaliate, Naruto raised his hands. "This is one of the things I can do. As ninjas, we have to be able to do some reconnaissance. What better way is to walk in and get intel from inside?" Naruto proudly stated.
"This is very surprising." Oze said.
"Kind of scary in my opinion" Seira chipped in.
Irelia was getting over her shock, but gave a nod of approval. "This is very interesting Naruto, but maybe you should change back. Just for the comfortability of us all." Irelia said, gesturing back to the others that were starting to stress out. Naruto instantly dropped the transformation.
"Sorry…" He said while scratching his whisker marks awkwardly.
'Tch… what a bunch of pansies…' Kurama said
'Shut it' Naruto responded back.
"I think you should still have Le scout, but this clone here can transform into one of them and go get some intel for us inside."
"That would be great! I like how you think." Irelius said; smirking. If she had any skepticism of him left, it was definitely gone now. This could work wonders for them.
"Let's set up for the evening and go over the strategy. Naruto's clone can infiltrate, while Le does his survey of any weak points." Oze responded.
Nodding her head in agreement, she spoke loud enough for everyone to hear. "Let's get set up for the night. We need to rest, esepecially before our early battle. Dismissed!"
Everyone gave a nod and dispersed. Naruto's clone and Le left to start their mission, just leaving the original Naruto, herself, Oze and Seira.
"Naruto needs to know of the plan of attack before we start our invasion." Seira said.
"I think that was the idea, you just spoke up before Irelia could say something." Oze responded nonchalantly. Seira seemed to get irritated at that, and stood on her tiptoes to flick him on the chin. Oze narrowed his eyes at her.
"Alright enough you two. I feel like you two bicker like children a bit too much sometimes." Irelia said. Both Oze and Seira looked at her with an exasperated expression.
"That's rich coming from the least mature person here." Oze said.
"Oh yeah? Dare to say that again?" Irelia growled; instantly proving Oze's point. Naruto sweat dropped and chuckled awekwarly. 'I was right on her having a fire temper.'
'Just like Kushina, I think you completed all the requirements just like her' Kurama pitched sarcastically.
Naruto's rolled his eyes at that. What is up with Kurama and Seira teasing him so much about Irelia? Did they know something that he didn't? He has only known her for a couple of days, yet they were implying stuff.
He focused his attention on Oze, when he seen the big man look at him. "As you know Naruto, this is Nafori. One of the south eastern villages of our country. This place was one of the first places that fell victim to the Noxian Invasion."
Naruto nodded his head, letting him know to continue. "After the fight at the Placidium. The Noxians have focused more on reinforcing the territories that were first conquered.
"We are here to take back Nafori. This will push their influence out the southeast, and push them more towards the south. That way we can force them back out to the seas and off the continent hopefully." Oze finished.
"It sounds so much easier said than done though." Irelia pitched in.
This was the dream they all had. If anything that was concerning to her, it was such an easy trek getting here. Normally they would have atleast run into a group of soldiers or even some scouts. However, the entire trip today was completely free of any Noxian presence.
"Are there any key figures that we should look out for?" Naruto asked. If one thing he did learn in war, is that the masterminds were the ones you had to watch.
"The Noxian command is not here on the continent from what we have learned. However each occupied territory has a General that is running the show. Then there is a triad of officers over regiments. Next is the Lieutenants that lead a warband and obviously it's the lower enlisted troops in said warband." Irelia said.
Naruto nodded his head as he took it all in. Too bad the ones who are the masterminds behind the war aren't on the continent. However that was the case when the Fourth Great War started too. They had the command over all the allied forces back in Kumo.
His thoughts were cut short as his mind was instantly flooded with memories of his clone. He frowned which didn't go unnoticed by Irelia or Oze.
"Is everything alright Naruto?" Oze asked the boy. He noticed the boy seemed to always go into deep thought. Was he thinking of strategies or was he thinking of his homeland. He did say they were in a war as well. Maybe this is bringing back unwanted memories.
Naruto took in all the memories of what his clone had gathered. It seemed that he was found out rather quickly from the Noxians. They weren't as easy to fool as he thought. He looked to Irelia and Oze and saw they were watching him curiously.
"Well my clone was found out rather quickly. Took a hard blow to the head that dispelled it." Naruto said. Oze gave a heavy sigh as Irelia frowned as well. So much for that.
"Anything useful you did see?" Irelia asked with a bit of hope.
"I think so…" He started as he relayed the events.
Flashback
Clone Naruto walked through the settlement after transforming into a masked soldier hiding his features. His uniform was spot on and he was lucky enough to be seen as a lower ranking soldier.
His only issue was that they were speaking somewhat of a different language. He cursed himself for not even thinking of that.
'Where do you think we should go, Kurama?' He asked his partner. The fox opened an eye to look at his host.
'You are walking blind in enemy territory, and trying to do some reconnaissance on something you don't even know about. Probably should have asked what you needed to go search for, before jumping in here all dumb.' Kurama stated. Naruto's eyes twitched in annoyance.
'Sometimes you are amazing to go to for knowledge, then there are times where I want to strangle you.' Naruto replied.
'AHAHAHAHAHAHA STRANGLE ME? KID DON'T GET BESIDE YOURSELF NOW.' Kurama said tauntingly. The audacity of his jailer to think he could strangle him. Even if he did have control of his chakra. After Kurama got done laughing, much to Naruto's chagrin he quieted down.
'Look Naruto, I think your best bet is honestly to try and see if you can find the one running the show here. You know just like I do that is the best intel you can always grab.' The fox said.
Naruto nodded his head as he walked around. He saw that there were soldiers saluting a big group of men were walking towards his direction. Not wanting to get caught too quickly, he mirrored the actions of the ones in the same uniform as him and saluted as well. The man in the middle was a very tall, but muscular middle-aged man in some black armor. He had a red cape attached with a massive sword on his hip. What caught Naruto's attention is that he had some stars on his soldier that gleamed with the brightest silver. The other men all had stars or other shiny insignias on their shoulders. Assuming they were either lowering ranking officers.
`Looks like we found him' Naruto said in his mind. Kurama nodded in agreement as he tried to sense anything from the man. Looked like there was some magical power dormant in that sword. However, like the others, that was it.
'I've noticed a chunk of the Noxians here have low magic. I am sure there is a way of suppressing their power, but I'm not sure.' Kurama said. Naruto was so focused on the man in the middle; he didn't notice what Kurama was talking about.
"Pretty soon, we need to be ready for the next phase, Captain. I got word that the high command sent out the hunters for that troublesome blade dancer." The man in the middle said. Naruto slowly, but at a distance followed them. That was the information he was looking for. The group of men entered a giant tent that was guarded by two brute like troops.
'Shit, I need to find a way in.' Naruto said as he hid behind a tree. That man in the middle said something that was worrying to him. Hunters after Irelia? He did remember when Seira said people looked to her as the leader of the resistance. It would only make sense that she is a primary target to the invading forces.
"What are you doing out here, soldier?" The gruff voice of a man came. Naruto stiffened as he turned around. He was greeted by the sight of three men with shiny insignias. Assuming they were higher ranking, he must have been in a place he's not allowed.
'Not good Naruto, these three have some potent magic radiating off of them.' Kurama spoke up.
"U-uh my apologies s-sir, I was just looking for my friend." Naruto stammered out. He tensed up as the three men narrowed their eyes at him.
"I suggest you correct yourself when speaking to officers. You didn't even fucking salute!" one of the other officers said. Naruto saw that he had a gun holstered.
"What are you doing in the officer area? You obviously aren't assigned to this area." The first officer stated.
"I-…" "Remove your mask. I can't hear you well." The man demanded.
"I can't do that…" Naruto responded, as one of them drew a gun.
"Disobeying a direct order now too? You realize we are in a war, that is a death sentence." The man grinned menacingly.
"I will tell you again. Remove your mask and tell us why are you in the officer area SOLDIER1" The officer asked gripping his sword. The third officer that has been silent the entire time, just crossed his arms. There was something off about this troop.
"Wait Lieutenants" he said speaking up. He then looked to the disguised Naruto. "Boy who is your company leader? This type of insubordination can't go ignored." He strictly stated as he watched the young soldier start to sweat.
'Shit this was not supposed to go this way.' Naruto thought. He was desperately trying to think of the best way to get out of this situation. He's just a clone so it's not that bad, but he really needed to hear more of their war plans. He looked to see it was just them three. He could probably just rush them three in a blink of an eye. His thoughts never were finished as the impact of something hitting the back of his head, caused him to disperse.
Naruto relayed everything he got before his clone was killed. These Noxians were straight to the point and did not care. He grit his teeth in anger as they killed one of their 'own quickly.' With no remorse.
"Seems like we have to re-evaluate our plans." Oze said. If they raised the bounty higher on Irelia's head, they would rest at nothing to try and capture her tomorrow.
"Absolutely not." Irelia stated simply. Oze and Naruto's eyes widened and she only steeled her resolve. "Who cares if they raise a simple number on my head. I will not die before our land is liberated."
"It's a time to be smart and restrategize, and there is a time to be dumb. Irelia you are being dumb do you hear-" Oze started to chastise, but Irelia didn't stand down.
"I will be damned if I run from a battle. I haven't yet, and won't ever. What would everyone think If I ran?!" She shouted.
"THAT IS NOT THE ISSUE! IF YOU ARE CAPTURED OR WORSE KILLED; WHO WILL BE THERE TO KEEP THE PEOPLE TOGETHER?!" Oze yelled, matching the same anger Irelia showed.
Naruto coughed getting both of their attention. "I am going to clear my mind for a bit to prepare myself for tomorrow." Naruto said. He continued, before either could respond. "I get what you are saying Oze, but like Irelia said who will keep everyone together if she were to retreat?"
Oze let out a sigh of frustration. He knew they were both right, hearing that there is now an assassin after Irelia, was just something that worried him. It's not like Irelia was by any means weak, but the very reason that there is an assassin out there now. Meant they have to keep their guard up at all times.
"Ok, but please do be careful. I'm sure I don't need to remind you that this is enemy territory." Irelia responded looking at the blond.
"I think Naruto will be fine Irelia, no need to worry about him." Seira said with a reassuring smile, which turned into a smirk, "Unless you want to go with him alone…"
Irelia completely ignored the tease that Seira was fishing for. Which actually disappointed the girl, as she didn't take the bait this time.
"I will always have that worry." Irelia replied.
"No need to worry. I won't be gone long, just need to go meditate for a bit." Naruto said, turning to walk into the forest. He waved everyone off as he made his departure. Irelia turned back to Oze and gave him an apologetic look.
"I'm sorry about my outburst. You know just like I do, I can never back down." she said.
Oze nodded, as he looked after where Naruto had just left. He then looked to Seira who gave a shrug. He sighed, maybe he needed to learn not to be such a worry horse.
Naruto arrived into the forest as the sun started to set. He found a nice large tree and sat down in front of it. Closing his eyes, he focused himself into Sage Mode. When he did this, he instantly felt all the natural energy around. He felt at ease feeling all the magical energy around him. Truly a calming atmosphere that relaxed all his nerves.
'What do you think Kurama?' Naruto asked as he opened his eyes in his mindscape. Kurama sat up and looked down at his host.
'To be honest, it does not matter to me. I just watch from the inside. How are you feeling in this new world?' the Bijuu replied sitting up.
'It's growing on me. I like Oze, Seira, and Irelia. The folks that I have met so far are opening up. I would definitely like to meet more people and obviously view this land. Too bad there isn't a hokage position though.' Naruto responded.
'Who knows, you could always try to create the position.' Kurama said; smirking. Naruto let out a chuckle as he thought of the idea of being Hokage of Ionia. What a silly dream.
'I am thinking of opening that seal when this battle is over. I think that will help me move on, so I can not be bothered by the past anymore.'
Kurama didn't say anything as he took in the kid's words. Before he could say a response, there was a presence that alerted him.
'We got a company kid.'
Naruto head tilted to the right as a blade tried to take out where his head was just previously. . He opened his toad-like eyes and move to dodge again. However, the attacker sent out a leg kick to trip him. Being faster he jumped over it and sent the assassin back with a punch.
The assassin let out a grunt, as he stumbled back. Clearly wasn't expecting his target to react the way he did.
"Not bad kid." said the man. He crouched before he dashed towards the blonde again. Being in Sage Mode, Naruto could sense the danger that was approaching and readied himself to counter. However the person disappeared into what looked like shadows?!
'He's fas-' Naruto ducked as he heard the swoosh of a sword that was aimed to take his head off. His celebration was cut short as the assassin threw a small dagger-like knife that hit him in the heart.
Naruto fell to his knees as he grabbed the blade. He coughed up blood as he looked up at his killer.
"You Noxians are quite stupid to be out here meditating in enemy territory. You all have gotten way too comfortable." said the man as he looked down at the young man. The kid had some great reflexes, but not enough for a talented assassin as himself. Naruto only smiled at the man which made the man tense up. Next thing he knew, there was a poof of smoke from the fallen man and what was replaced a log? Then he felt cold steel on his neck.
"You are fast. However I am the worst one you could ever underestimate!" Naruto stated proudly. He had prepared himself to substitute with a log when he saw this assassin move rather quickly in the shadows.
"What did I do be attacked?" Naruto asked. He felt the assassin was still tense with the blade against his jugular. He knew one false move and Naruto would end him. Truly the first time he was ever outclassed.
"What is your name kid?" The man asked. He had been at someone's mercy on the battlefield before.
"It's only fair that you give it first, since you are after me. Are you a Noxian?" Naruto simply responded.
"Ruane and no I am not. How could I be if I called you one?" He said briefly.
"Fair point." Naruto said as he dropped the blade. He created a distance between him, but kept himself on guard just in case. "Who are you affiliated with?"
"I think I should be asking the questions here. What Ionian has blonde hair? Obviously you're a foreigner."
"You attack me and expect me to answer you?" Naruto scoffed.
"Well you can lose your life if you would rather then." Ruane said threateningly.
"By your friends that's in the trees around? You guys can come on out!" Naruto said out loud not to anyone in particular. As expected, he heard whistling through the air as blades went through the air towards him. He simply weaved through all the blades.
Ruane started to sweat. Was this not a simple Noxian soldier brat that got lost away from the base? This kid was in between their path to arrive with the Blade dancer's resistance team.
"If it makes you all feel any better, I am on the Ionian's side. I just took the time to go get a relaxing breather before tomorrow's battle." Naruto responded.
"Are you saying you from the Blade Dancers crew?" Ruane asked.
"Blade dancer? Who is-… wait, are you talking about Irelia?" Naruto asked. He remembered some of the fighters in their group called Irelia that.
"Yes her, are you affiliated with the Resistance then?" came the voice of a woman that walked up. She was a bit shorter than most, and had on what looked like a green crop top and green pants, and ninja tabi. Followed with a green mask and her black hair in a ponytail. Her gaze was one of one that held no emotion.
"I am, my name is Naruto Uzumaki."
"Uzumaki huh? What country are you from?" The girl asked.
"That is none of your concern." Naruto simply responded. This got a glare from her and Ruane.
"You are on too thin of ice to be telling me that." she replied.
"So are you. If you don't mind, I need to be getting back to camp. I am sure everyone is waiting-"
"Looks like you two have made a rather interesting acquaintance." came the sudden voice of Irelia. Naruto turned around with a bit of surprise. "I'm sorry that forgot to I tell you to watch for the ninja assassins that were meeting with us tonight."
'She even came to look for you. Now you see why we've been teasing you?' Kurama said with a chuckle. Naruto ignored him and sighed in relief.
He gave a smile as Irelia walked up to him. She gave him subconsciously a glance over to make sure he was fine. She was surprised to actually find he didn't even look like he had a scratch on him.
"Who is this guy?'' Ruane asked, pointing towards the blond.
"He's an ally to us. We stumbled across him yesterday and he has been of great help." Irelia responded to the assassin. She then looked at the shorter woman in green.
"It's good to see you again, Akali."
"Likewise."
Naruto saw that the woman in green never took her eyes off Naruto. She was probably still skeptical of how he was able to keep up with the other guy.
