Hot.
It was a word that Silver often used to describe the future.
A type of hot that could melt the flesh off bone.
Flames that burst through the cracks of the Earth's crust. Spilling lava across the world leaving no living thing in its trace. People that would scour for any last remnants of civilization. Famine. War. Disease.
If it wasn't the heat. It was desolate.
Deserts that would span hundreds of miles with hardly a trace of life left. Radiation that would manifest in storms. Searing the sky in lightning. Leaving the world in a husk. The beautiful blue replaced with harsh red.
But it was always hot. Always.
Never cold.
It was difficult to remain positive when most futures were so desolate and had the most severe weather. Heat. Storms. Floods. Never snow. But wasn't that just another type of extreme weather?
Try as he might, it was difficult not to imagine the worst of endings for this future. Though Alder's calm disposition and friendly attitude helped, it was hard for Silver to imagine that this world was perfect and without wounds. Even for Sonic, it was difficult to wrap their heads around the fact that the largest city on Earth was located in, what they considered in modern times, a place typically thought as barely hospitable. As far as the eye could see, there was nothing but snow and icy cliffs that towered around them. Dotted only with log cabins or igloos.
The appearance of the outside did not match up with the words that Alder had told them.
Perhaps it would have been easier for Sonic and Silver to depart from Alder's cabin by themselves. Rising before the morning sun touched the Earth to slip away and pave their own path. Unfortunately, the two of them slept in, and in this unknown world, it was best to have all the help they could get.
Wrapped in thick fabric, the three of them made their way across the tundra.
Alder walked at the front. His lumbering body kept the harshest of wind from plummeting the hedgehogs' faces. Even with the thick fabric and body shield, it did little to keep the cold at bay.
"Where do you come from?" Alder idly asked. Breaking the silence of the wind's howl.
Silver was quiet as Sonic perked up. His restlessness was becoming apparent. "No where, really. I'm not really one to stay in one place for too long." Sonic tried to give a laugh, but the chill only provided a shiver.
"Travelers?" Alder glanced back towards the two. "Not the best time to visit Halyceon."
"Why's that?" Silver perked up as his ears shifted forward.
"G.U.N." the bear gave a shrug. "They have been harassing the locals. Digging. The local government is on high alert."
The two hedgehogs glanced at one another, unsure. "What? Are they looking for something?" Silver tried to press for more information. Tried to glean all that he could.
"Probably. Not sure what. They do not tell us much. But they keep stopping us for questioning." Alder frowned and narrowed his eyes. Carefully he climbed up several rocks, leaning down to give the other two a hand.
"Must be something important then." Sonic gave a shrug as he watched Silver effortlessly climb the cliffside. Not that it was very hard when the other had abilities to make him weightless. The subtle glow of cyan was enough for Sonic to realize he was cheating. "Maybe they found a Chaos Emerald!" the blue hedgehog laughed.
Alder paused, staring down at the blue blur in surprise. "A Chaos Emerald? That would be impossible!" he shook his head as Sonic stared at him confused.
"Well, why's that? They're always hiding somewhere around the world if no one's using them." Sonic stood next to Alder in thought. Unless someone already was on the prowl searching for them, it would mean they're hiding somewhere. And none of them would put it past G.U.N. to search for them for whatever advantage they could gain.
The polar bear couldn't help but laugh. "You must be joking." The two hedgehogs stared at Alder confused. The bear reached over to Sonic, patting him on the head gently. "The more you speak, the more I cannot help but think you hurt your head."
Sonic brushed the other's large paw away with a frown. Silver hopped forward beside Sonic, trying to play off it all as a joke. "Don't worry, Sonic is alright." He gave the other a much too hard pat on the back. "He sort of lives under a rock!" he laughed a bit as Sonic only stared at Silver annoyed. A huff of annoyance.
Alder stared at the two of them for a moment, before sighing with a shake of the head. "Obviously." He motioned his head forwards as they continued to walk. "The Chaos Emeralds have been lost for 200 years. For them to appear now. It would be unprecedented."
Luckily the two had been trailing behind Alder as to hide their surprise. Silver's eyes grew wide as he whipped his head towards Sonic who shared the shock of this revelation. Carefully the pieces of the whole picture were beginning to fall into place. The effect of this sudden jump into the future was beginning to unveil itself to the time traveler. But for Sonic, the revelation was ironically slower to come.
Silver watched as the cogs in Sonic's head were slow to turn. The revelation dawning on him.
"So…" Sonic began slowly. Silver could see how the words formed awkwardly in his mouth. Careful with what he was trying to say. "What about Sonic the Hedgehog? Y'know… the fastest thing alive. The guy I was named after." Sonic glanced towards Silver, unsure if he was allowed to ask the question.
Alder looked backwards, with a smile. "I was wondering why your name sounded familiar." The bear gave a hearty laughter. Sonic tried to match it. "Not sure. I do not know much about him."
Although the news was troubling to the two of them, Silver couldn't help but crack the faintest smile as Sonic's expression. It looked as if he was offended that the other didn't know much about him. History was not always the best to the losers, but the same could be said about the winners. 200 years ago was both a long and short time. To some, it was ancient history. To others, only yesterday. There were some that cared for such things. But for others, it was merely a name to be remembered then quickly forgotten. Silver found that most people didn't really care about those things. If events were so important, it was usually a generality of what had happened. Names became lost to time. Deeds became fairy tales. Myths. Legends.
The Chaos Emeralds were always the one constant. Now, it felt strange that they were absent. At least, until now…
Yet, Silver could not help to watch Sonic come to learn that time was not so kind to memory. He was lucky his name was remembered at all.
"Ok…" Sonic seemed to almost roll his eyes. "You know anything about Eggman? Or uh… Dr. Robotnik?" He scratched the back of his head as they took another turn near a cliffside.
"Of course." Alder nodded his head almost immediately. "He disappeared 200 years ago along with the Chaos Emeralds. There are many books about him. I have some recommendations-"
"No thanks!" Sonic was quick to reply. "Not the biggest fan of the guy. Hey, so when are we going to get there…" Silver could see how annoyed Sonic was over the fact that this person knew more about his arch nemesis than him.
Had it been better times, Silver might have laughed. But he could only feel troubled even if his nerves had settled, albeit slightly.
I'm surprised you don't stay.
The words rang clear through Silver's mind as he watched Sonic bicker with Alder.
He could only let out a sigh of melancholy.
Through the wonder of winter, they eventually could see more man-made objects rise from the endless snow. Brilliant steel pillars rose upward and begun to curl around them. It was best described as a rib cage. Smooth and polished, an artistical sculpture that turned a tunnel. Both Silver and Sonic craned their neck upward to follow the grand walls of steel that slowly formed around them, watching as the intricate lines turned into a tunnel, shielding them from the cold. A string of light flowed on either side of the cave, providing a well-lit tunnel for them to traverse through.
Outside the tunnel, the group hardly saw any soul besides the occasional traveler. But within showed plenty more signs of life. Both human and mobian milled about within the tunnels. Speaking to, what he presumed to be, guards dotting the tunnels ever several feet. Some engaged in loitering, swiping their phones or whatever gadget they held. It looked incredibly normal. So normal that Silver stared at them perplexed. His gaze caught on them, staring longer than he should have. Only for them to turn a corner and the sight to be gone.
Alder hardly noticed Silver's perplexed gaze as his focus was kept to the guards that dotted the path. "Strange," he murmured. "More than usual."
"What? The guards?" Sonic began to peel off some layers of fabric finding the slightly cooler air much to warm now. "Some festival happening around that we didn't hear about?"
"Hmm…" Alder gave a grunt of a shrug. "No… But it worries me. Perhaps to do with G.U.N."
Silver narrowed his eyes, taking note of the guards himself. "Has relations between Haloska and G.U.N. been difficult lately?"
Alder shook his head. "No. Besides that they have been digging. I think it may be something else."
"I'm sure its nothing," Sonic waved his hand with that classic smile. "Not my kind of idea of a welcome party, but I'll take it!" A burst of laughter came from Alder. Breaking the usual stoic expression.
Their walk eventually took them to a large door that slowly slid open to reveal a circular room of similar steel metal. Intricate designs were carved on the floor covered by a glass set atop of the design.
"Here is the elevator that will take you to the main city." Alder motioned to the large circular platform. "Do you know where your friends are located?"
Silver nodded his head, "Yeah." Sonic raised his brow at the other, unsure, but trusting to the hedgehog. "I'm sure we'll find them easily. They're not hard to miss."
Alder stared at them both for a second, contemplating if Silver was being truthful or not. But the two hedgehogs didn't delay their departure as they continued towards the elevator. "Good luck to you. It was a pleasure meeting you, Sonic, Silver."
Sonic gave the other a thumbs up as he stepped onto the platform. "Same to you, Alder! Maybe we'll see you around!"
"Thanks for your help," Silver gave a smile as he gracefully hopped towards the platform. He turned to the holographic keyboard, pressing a button signaling for the elevator to descend. Slowly the doors to the platform pressed shut as he waved an awkward goodbye to the bear. Now, there was only a hum of silence.
Slowly, the hedgehog gave a large sigh, turning towards Sonic. The façade wore away as he held his gaze onto Sonic. He watched as the other stared up towards the door as it disappeared, not even giving Silver a passing notice before he noticed the white hedgehog staring at him. "Hm? What's wrong?"
There was a sigh before he shook his head. "Nothing." There was a pause as he rubbed his head closing his eyes. Sonic crossed his arms over his chest, not quite believing that there was absolutely nothing that was troubling the hedgehog. "Well, nothing new." There was a frown as he slowly opened his eyes, watching metal slowly glide pass them as they continued their descent. "I've just been trying to think of the best way to send you back to the past- to your present."
"Woah, Silver." Sonic raised his hands up with a smirk. "Trying to kick me out already? We just got here!"
The white hedgehog was taken aback for a moment. Mouth agape before the frown returned, sterner and more annoyed. "This isn't a joke!" Silver shifted his body to face Sonic, hands balled into fists. "You're not supposed to exist here! Neither is Eggman, or anyone from the past! And I need to find a way to send you all back to your proper time as soon as possible so that I-we can fix the future!"
Sonic's eyes darted around the elevator, trying to hold his interest in anywhere but Silver. "Well, I don't see why we have to do it so soon. We have all the time in the world, and I really don't see what's so bad about the future right now." He touched one of the steel rail guards. "It looks pretty futuristic and safe to me, and even Holoska has the biggest city in the world now… apparently." He gave a shrug still not convinced.
"That's not the point," Silver shook his head.
"And what is the point?" Sonic frowned with a raised brow. "Isn't that your whole thing? To make sure the future is safe?"
"That's-That's not what I mean!" Silver raised hands up defensively.
"Then what's the big deal? Is there something else about time travel that they didn't teach me about? This isn't really the first time I've done it. Believe it or not." A shrug.
"No…" Silver shifted his gaze downward.
"Then what's wrong?" Sonic took a few steps towards Silver. A confused but concerned look on his face. "What's wrong with taking the scenic route? We don't have a timer on our head or anything. I don't see any pathways of destruction or nuclear fallout around here so far."
"Its just…" Silver begun to stammer.
The hum of the elevator became louder.
"Its not…" Eyes darted around the room. Hands quivering as they clenched tighter into fists.
The hum of the elevator became louder.
"Theres… just…" He took a shaky breath. Closing his eyes as he could not accept the future in his chest as true.
The hum of the elevator became louder.
"Its… just…."
The explanation never came.
Steel unfurled to become windows as light poured into the elevator.
Silver's eyes opened and became wide as Sonic gasped at the scenery. All thoughts and worries poured away golden eyes caught the glistening jewel that poured from the window. The beauty was unmistakable. The grandeur was intoxicating.
From experience of previous expeditions into the future, large cities were not as large as those of the present. Small towns were a more apt description, as all large cities had been destroyed years ago from the catalyst that would topple civilization. Tunnels in mountains. Vernacular buildings. Heavily guarded citadels that acted more like military bases with military dictatorships. He had assumed the same for Halyceon when Alder had brought him into the man-made cold steel tunnels. Possibly a network of more tunnels and rooms with dreary steel that lined every single space that would slowly turn into a maze.
He had been in many. Seen many. All of them felt more of a prison than a habitable place.
A sad last cradle of civilization.
It took Silver by complete surprise upon seeing the city open up to him. Unlike the endless mazes that looked ever so dreary and depressing, this one was of a completely different type of city. Although underground, the city opened up completely. Sprawling through the underground surrounded by a cage of rock and ice and water spilling from above. Steel buildings rose to the ceiling as chains fell to the ground illuminated by blue that coursed through the links in a steady pulse. Lights danced across the cityscape for miles (actual miles!), illuminating the dark with streetlights and billboards of all types. Although Halyceon was illuminated, the cavern itself was dark. A place of perpetual darkness, illuminated only by the glittering jewel below as it reached upward to the heavens of the cavern walls, reflecting itself endlessly into a low dim.
From their vantage point, they could see that the city was broken into layers. Descending downward, they saw how each layer seemed to have a different level of darkness and light. The upper most layers afforded more light, whilst the deeper layers towards the ground level were darker and endless. It was enrapturing and nothing that Silver had ever seen through the multitude of jumps forwards and backwards. The surprise was equally shared, and there was even joy as Silver gazed upon the plentiful buildings as they rose to the heavens of the cavern. His heart felt as though it stopped.
Was that joy? Relief? Everything mixed together all in one?
He breathed. Not realizing he had been holding his breath.
The platform descended even further, hiding away the scenery, and it came to a slow stop as the doors slid open to the mouth of the city. His body was practically buzzing in anticipation. Wanting to crack open the shell and descend into it like a hungry animal.
Plentiful number of guards were stationed at the city holding rifles. As the two hedgehogs stepped out a group of them approached. The joy that Silver felt fell away and turned to nervousness as they held up their hand to stop the two from moving any further.
"Stop." Spoke one of them. From the group, one broke to approach them. "We just need to check to be sure you're not carrying anything suspicious."
It was difficult for Silver to relax under the tension. Sonic looked aloof as ever as they patted him down. Whilst Silver only prayed that the guards thought nothing of him as they took notice of his golden cuffs. A guard took his wrist, observing it for a moment. Sweat dripped from the hedgehog's brow.
He saw the guard open her mouth. Perhaps to take it off. But the group she had been with impatiently beckoned her back. Wordlessly she let go of Silver's wrist, moving her hand to the side allowing them passage into the city proper.
The two walked in silence, but their walk was enough of a conversation as they craned their necks upward to stare at the beautiful cityscape. The lights. The noises. The people calling out. It was a bustling city, more bustling than any that Sonic and Silver had ever seen before. It was intoxicating. From one interest to another, their eyes bounced each and every way. To be held one second, then passed to another. It was different from the gaudy and brainless flashing lights of Eggman's Empire. This was a place that was lived in. A place that felt alive. A place that held a heart.
It was nearly impossible for Sonic to keep still as he itched to run deeper into the city. Exploring each and every place at his fast-paced leisure running from one place to another. Silver could not help but tear his eyes from the life of the city to Sonic as he twisted and turned to take in the beauty of it all. The amazement was contagious, and Silver was enraptured by the wonder in Sonic's eyes for a future that Silver had toiled endlessly to create.
It brought a joy that Silver had been searching for endlessly. A joy he never knew he could feel.
It was a wonderful future.
It was a perfect future.
A perfect future.
Silver stopped in his tracks. His eyes still kept on Sonic.
A perfect future.
Sonic turned in amazement, searching for Silver in the crowd.
A perfect future.
The time traveler could feel his breath stop as he locked eyes with Sonic.
A perfect future.
Silver felt Sonic's hands touch his shoulders.
A perfect future.
He watched Sonic say words, drowned by his own thoughts
A perfect future.
Without Sonic.
He felt himself move. His feet rushing forward as something pulled at his wrist through the crowd. The lights turned to haze. The people turned into haze. Everything turned to haze as he stumbled forward. With only one thing that kept him grounded was the hand that held firm onto him. The wonderous city melted into nothing but colors as he felt himself stumble forward into nothing. A ringing echo pulling through his mind. All sensations turned to nothing, and nothing turned into a sensation unto itself. A feeling in the pit of his stomach, bursting forward into his chest as he moved breathlessly.
He felt himself seat someplace before he realized himself had seated.
Murmurs and voices. Hushed whispers. Growing eyes all over him. His fingers were tingling as he heard the chair scrape against the floor. Glass shoved in his hands. His body still shifting in some strange sensation. A trance.
"Silver…" he caught his name in the fog.
He shifted his body. Heavy. His head light. His eyes staring through the person who leaned over next to him. He felt the hand against his back. Felt the gentle pats of his quills.
"Silver…" the voice again.
Finally, Silver brought himself to blink. No longer the action of his body merely doing what needed to be done. But the action of himself taking control.
He felt himself breath. The cold air rushing into his lungs. Crisp and filling. It produced a cough.
Hands shook as he gripped the glass in his hands. Staring down at the glass set on the table filled with water. His mouth felt strange as he raised the glass up. His fingers sifted through the glass into the water. The water touching his tongue, down his throat, into his body. He breathed.
Sonic stared at him with concern. "Silver." Soft. "What happened? Are you alright?"
Silver took several deep breaths. Shallow, but the world came back into view. Eyes darted across the room they sat in now. A small café, illuminated by gentle lights. Cold steel still covered everything. Several people typed away at their computers or engrossed in books or private conversations. But it still felt as though their eyes were on him. Staring at who he was.
"I don't know." A lie. There was only a cruel revelation that sat heavy in his mind. But the mere glance upon it sent his soul into a wrenching agony. He took another sip of water. Then another, chugging it this time.
Sonic, fortunately, believed him. "Its alright," he patted Silver again before moving to sit on the other side of the table. "I guess with everything happening the past few days has finally caught up to you. When was the last time we even had a break?" He laid back in the chair, folding his arms over his chest. "When was the last time you had a break?"
When was the last time?
It felt forever ago.
"I really don't remember," Silver looked to the side. He rubbed his hands together. The shaking not stopping, but the sensations slowly returning to him. There was a gentle tune playing in the café. The smell of sweets and pastries.
"Which means you need one!" Sonic pointed a finger at Silver.
"Listen, Sonic…" Talking still felt strange. "I know you're just trying to help. But the sooner we get everyone home the sooner I can take a br—"
"Nope." Sonic shook his head, cutting Silver off. "All work and no play? Even you can't keep going like this. Look at yourself! Just feels like its disaster after disaster for you." Silver fell silent, his shoulders sagging. "Feels like the last time you had fun was at my birthday party. Which was arguably not entirely as laid-back as I would have liked it to be..."
Silver avoided Sonic's gaze.
"Wait. Seriously? That was the last time you had a break!?"
"That doesn't matter—"
"Yes, it does." Sonic narrowed his eyes. He shifted to lean forward staring down the hedgehog.
"Listen, Sonic. I'm fine." Silver forced himself straight, eyes focused anywhere but Sonic's ire. The warmth of this place was beginning to make him uncomfortable.
"Well, obviously you're not."
"What happened isn't about me."
"Then what is it about?" Sonic narrowed his eyes. "Actually, don't answer that. 'Cause I know you're not gonna tell me." He threw his hands up in faux defeat. "I really don't understand why you're always so secretive. We're supposed to be friends, and I'm trying to help you like you always help me."
"Its complicated." Finally, a glance towards Sonic. "You wouldn't understand." He shifted his gaze to the floor.
"Because you won't let me understand." Sonic sighed with a shake of his head.
"Its better that way." Easier to draw a line in the sand than make things complicated. That's what he liked to think.
Sonic sighed, slowly deflating as he rested back into the chair. Silver watched out of the corner of his eye as Sonic kept his attention off Silver. Perhaps because the white hedgehog was being so difficult and secretive. A tension that Silver caused. But a tension that would subside with time. Hopefully.
Silver was the first to move as he stood from the chair. He begun to lift the glass with his mind, but soon snatched it before it was able to lift entirely in the air. Sonic stared in confusion. "We should get out of here. I need to visit a pawn shop."
The confused stare turned bewildered. "A pawn shop? Now you're trying to pawn me off?" It was an attempt to lighten the mood, but went entirely over Silver's head.
"No." He set the glass on the counter of the café. "I'll show you when we get there."
"Never realized money could make money," Sonic took some of the bills that Silver passed to him.
"A trick I picked up," Silver gave a smile. In the futures less horrible, where economies managed to exist, a hidden bill from centuries past was always a novelty to collectors. It typically provided just enough for Silver to live off in search for mysterious untold. "This should give us enough for food at least. Don't think travel will be much of a problem for us."
The fastest thing alive and a psychokinetic hedgehog. No borders could keep them out.
"Hah, not at all." Sonic placed the money in the layers of his coat. "Say, why don't we grab some lunch? I'm starving." Before Silver could open his mouth to reply Sonic cut him off. "And don't say we can't because we're on a mission. Food always has time."
Silver sighed. He was getting a little hungry. "Fine. I know you won't take no for an answer anyway."
Sonic wasted no time in locating the food. Already having a vendor in mind as he motioned Silver to the railing of the pathway they stood on. A finger pointed at several layers below. Nestled on the street was a street vendor that caught his eye. It gave Silver a chuffed laugh as he stared back at Sonic with a dim smile. At least he knew what he wanted. Slowly, Silver traced the pathway with his eyes, trying to find the best way down.
"Looks like the stairway is…" Silver stepped away from the rails, taking a moment to trace the pathways with a finger. The maze sprawling before him.
But before he could point down the path to the stairs, Sonic took a running leap off the railing. A gasp left Silver's lips as he stared speechless at Sonic as he jumped effortlessly to the layer below. Some citizens stood shocked as they gawked at the blue hedgehog whom just fell several feet. Hardly breaking a sweat.
Silver stood above. Gawking.
"Come on, Silv!" Sonic moved towards the railing to the street below, looking upward at the shocked hedgehog. He motioned for Silver to follow. Probably expecting Silver to use his own powers to simply float downward with ease. But unlike Sonic who used the means of parkour to find the fastest way to the next layer, Silver's powers were much more than a simple jump.
"Uh…" Silver glanced at the people who slowly lost interest in Sonic. "O-One second!" he held up a finger before running down the slower path. Sonic merely watched, impatiently, as several minutes later the white hedgehog caught up with him. He gasped with breath as he leaned downward as if he ran a marathon.
"Geez, why'd take the slow route." He tapped his foot against the ground before giving a stretch. "I figured you could just float down—"
"Shhhh!" Silver motioned his hands downward.
"Oh, great." Sonic gave a shrug as the smile disappeared. "Another rule?"
Silver gave a sigh. "I'm just trying to keep a low profile right now." Eyes darted from side to side. "I'll explain it later. I promise."
"Riiiiiight."
"I'm serious!"
Sonic shook his head, hands on hips. "Alright, alright." He waved his hand stepping away from Silver. "Listen, I know you're trying to keep everything nice and organized. But I really don't want to keep arguing with you and get bogged down." Sonic approached the food vendor. Eyes tracing the different foods that were being sold. Some familiar. Some not. "I want to get home as much as you do. But you gotta live a little!" He pointed at one of the items on the menu. "Just two hot dogs, please!" His hand fished around for some money, passing it to the vendor, the hand replaced with food. He turned to Silver, handing it to the other hedgehog. "I'm not saying we shouldn't take it seriously. But you gotta chill out a bit."
Silver frowned, carefully taking the food. Staring at it unsure. "I am 'chill'."
It made Sonic laugh as he bit into his hot dog. "The complete opposite of chill. Man, you and Shadow are like two peas in a pod sometimes." Silver rolled his eyes in response. "Can you at least promise me when all this is over you give yourself a break."
Silver fell silent for a moment. Slowly taking a bite of the food. It was sweet, salty, and so much more. It tasted… good. Really good. Eyes glanced towards Sonic who stared at him. Almost into him. "Ugh, fine!" Silver looked away. "I promise, when all of this is over, I'll take a break."
Sonic gave a smile, as if he had gotten a foothold in Silver. "Great! Maybe you'll learn a thing or two about relaxation with me around!"
Silver couldn't help the small smile that was beginning to simmer on his face. "Lessons on taking it easy," he managed a laugh. The tension melting away once more.
He wanted it to last forever.
But it was short lived.
Always so short lived.
The explosion was heard first. Followed by the rumble through the city. The smell of smoke wafted through the air as it slowly rose to the cavern's sky. A chorus of murmurs and yells vibrated through the city halls. Echoing through the cavern.
Sonic wavered in the explosion; but Silver seemed to stand unaffected as he balanced himself with the gentle help of his powers. The two looked up and around, trying to locate the source of the noise. Other citizens of Halyceon looked around, unsure of the chaos that sprouted seemingly from nowhere. Gasps and yells as they pointed upward to the cavern ceiling as the smoke slowly rose upward.
"Guess we'll have to save that lesson for later!" Sonic sprung into action, scarfing down the hot dog he held.
It took less time for the two hedgehogs to think of what to do before they leapt into action. The answer was obvious as to whom might start such destruction. Afterall, there would be no one else but the obvious. No one else that Alder mentioned that would cause such destruction other than G.U.N. There was only one other. The only one that was dragged with the two of them.
Before Sonic bolted off, Silver managed to take hold of the hedgehog. His stomach lurched forward as his momentum suddenly halted and he felt weightless. Eyes darted around as he managed to shift his body slightly. The hold felt more as if he was carried. Weightless. Floating in a sea of air. Sonic's eyes darted around as he noticed Silver slowly float towards the disarray with him. No longer worried for the aforementioned 'low profile'.
We don't really have that luxury anymore.
People gasped as they watched Silver float away in glow of cyan along with Sonic in tow.
It was nice while it lasted.
