Chapter 35
Bella
I lay snuggled close to the chest of my beloved husband. I just felt more than overjoyed.
Edward's kisses and his tongue at my center were so convincing that they quickly made me forget my anger at him. I could stay like this forever and enjoy the togetherness, but unfortunately we still had to go to Charlie.
Suddenly I felt a slight pang of nausea.
Whether it was because of the fear of the conversation, or the effort from sex did not get me well?
I decided to disappear into the bathroom as quickly as possible for safety's sake.
When I tried to get up, Edward held me.
"Where are you going?" he asked me with his typical worried expression.
"I need to go to the bathroom and fast."
It choked me as if everything would come up at any moment.
For safety's sake, I held my hand in front of my mouth. My stomach rebelled and I felt dizzy, which was perhaps also due to the fact that Edward grabbed me and took me to the bathroom.
Barely on my own two feet, I knelt over the toilet and as if on cue, my stomach emptied.
At that moment, I was very grateful to Edward for allowing me my privacy and waiting outside the door. He knew how embarrassed I was when he saw me like this.
I felt like crap, and the thought of Charlie made my condition worse.
Carefully, I tried to stand up to get to the sink, which I reached with much difficulty. With the last of my strength, I held on to the edge of the basin. I turned on the tap, rinsed my mouth with water and brushed my teeth.
One look in the mirror showed me that Edward would be very worried about me in a moment. I didn't look good at all, but that didn't matter now.
We finally had to get this conversation over with.
As I opened the door, I also heard his concerned voice: "Bella, you ..."
Before he could speak further, I put my index finger over his lips.
"Don't worry, I'll be fine. We have to get to Charlie's now, though."
"Are you sure?"
His furrowed eyebrows clearly signaled that he didn't believe me.
"Yes. Come on, we're already running a little late."
In the bedroom, Edward didn't take his eyes off me for a second.
It was almost as if I was his prey and any moment he would jump on me.
He made me downright nervous.
Since I could not bear this look any longer, I quickly looked for a comfortable outfit. Consciously I chose a loose blouse, after all, Charlie should not immediately see my baby bump.
Again I was caught up in my thoughts. I tenderly stroked my belly, imagining my parents playing with our child.
Little tears worked their way down my cheeks.
Edward's arms around my belly brought me back to the here and now.
"What makes you so sad?"
"My parents, they ... they won't see our Mousie grow up."
"I'm so sorry, my angel."
"It's okay. I ... My hormones are going crazy again," I tried to talk myself out of it.
Edward's expression told me he didn't believe me.
I couldn't blame him, after all, I didn't believe myself.
As soon as I got in the car, I fell asleep. This little nap did my body a lot of good.
Arriving at Charlie's, my eyes somehow didn't want to open and so I let it stay. I only felt Edward's arms under me.
Edward
Bella's mood swings drove me to despair. One moment she was funny and in a particularly good mood, and the next moment she was very sad. Whereas I could understand about her parents. This thought made me sad as well. It would be nice if Charlie and Renée could be part of our lives. If they could be there when our child took his first steps or ...
Shit, I had to think about something else. This topic also caused me a kind of uneasiness.
As usual, Bella had fallen asleep in the car.
Carefully, I picked her up and carried her to Charlie's house.
"Oh my God, what's wrong? What's wrong with Bella?" Charlie yelled at me angrily.
What did he do to her?
"She just fell asleep. I didn't want to wake her up. She looked so peaceful."
"Okay, you can put her on the couch. As long as I cook dinner for us, she can sleep some more."
When did Bella start sleeping so soundly? She has always been a totally light sleeper until now. Has he bitten her yet? She looks so pale anyway. Billy said they sleep late after that.
"Would you like to join me in the kitchen or stay with Bella?"
"If you don't mind, I'd like to stay here with my angel."
"Well, I'm off to the kitchen."
Billy and his stupid talk. Why does he think that Edward is a vampire. Okay, he is very pale, and his skin is cold. But that can't be possible. I have to pay attention to the details, he said. Damn! I can't believe all this somehow.
If I thought Bella's mood swings were driving me crazy, I never, ever expected these thoughts from Charlie.
While Bella slept relaxed on the couch next to me, Charlie cooked dinner for us. In the process, his thoughts were going crazy.
At first I thought I was imagining it all, but then his thought processes became more specific.
The Cullens are vampires and the Quileutes are werewolves, and I am the Emperor of China. It must all be a bad joke on Billy's part. But what if he is right about all of this. Then Bella would be in danger after all. If she knows about it? Mmm, if anyone knows for sure, it's her. After all, they've been together for two years. Bella has assured me that she loves Edward more than anything, and he loves her, too.
Why had Billy told Charlie about vampires and werewolves? What was he trying to do with that? I didn't really care about the werewolves, but he shouldn't know about us vampires. If the Volturi found out about it, Charlie was as good as dead.
Even if he were in danger, I kind of liked the idea of him knowing about us. Then Bella's wish or longing would come true. Our child could then play with both grandpas.
I definitely had to inform Carlisle later and ask him for advice. What would be better? Should we let Charlie in on this completely or should we let him figure it out on his own?
Charlie was setting the table, and as expected, there was a place setting for me. Probably Billy had told him that we vampires did not eat human food.
I'm curious to see if Edward eats anything. Billy said that vampires don't eat our food, but I can't believe that. At the wedding, Edward ate the wedding cake with Bella.
At this thought of Charlie, I felt sick to my stomach.
The cake was so disgusting, but for my angel I had made it with pleasure. At that time I had sworn never to do this again. As it looked, I had to break my own promise once again.
"Dinner will be ready in a minute. You can wake Bella up already."
Of course, I didn't have to be told twice.
I gave Bella a tender kiss on the cheek, stroking a strand of hair behind her ear.
She purred like a little kitten.
"Wake up, my angel," I breathed into her ear.
In a flash, her arms were wrapped around me, and she pulled me tightly to her. Stormily she put her lips on mine. Before this kiss could become more intense, I detached myself from her.
"Bella, we're at Charlie's. Dinner's almost ready."
"Oh," she said, a little surprised. "I completely forgot about that."
"I think Charlie knows," pointing to myself.
"What makes you think that?"
Bella shook her head questioningly.
"Billy must have told your dad about vampires and werewolves. His thoughts are only circling around this topic. He wants to pay attention to various details, whether I am a vampire," I whispered to her.
"Shit," Bella slipped out.
Embarrassed, she held her hand over her mouth.
I had to smile at this gesture.
She looked so cute.
Without paying attention to my surroundings, I put my lips on hers. We kissed tenderly and lovingly. All our love for each other flowed into this kiss.
The two of them look so happy and in love. Even if Edward were a vampire, he would never do anything bad to my Bella.
"I hate to interrupt you two, but ...," Charlie stammered from behind us.
"No problem, Dad," my angel replied after she broke away from me.
After I gave Bella a little kiss on the tip of her nose, we walked hand in hand to the dining room.
Charlie was already sitting at the table pouring his beer.
A pitcher of water was ready for us.
For which I was very grateful. Water was much more bearable for me than beer. Because I would never get that down.
Bella squeezed my hand and smiled lovingly at me.
She knew exactly what I was about to endure.
"I hope you enjoy the lasagna. The recipe is still from one of Renée's cookbooks."
"You cooked those yourself?" asked Bella in surprise.
"Yes," came the reply from Charlie.
Hopefully the thing is edible. If not, we urgently need the number of Bella's favorite pizzeria.
The three of us sat around the table. Each of us was silent, chewing on a bite of lasagna. For me it was the worst, though Bella's expression was no better.
"Okay, that's enough. You can put that stuff in your napkin. What do you say to a pizza?"
As soon as Charlie gave us permission, Bella and I spit in our napkins at the same time.
I didn't reply to the question about the pizza, after all I didn't care, since neither appealed to me.
"Dad, don't go to any trouble on our account. Edward and I will have dinner with the Cullens."
With this sentence my angel made me especially happy.
If they don't stay for dinner, how am I supposed to test if Edward is eating?
"Alright, I'll order one for myself later. Do you want a coffee?"
"Umm, ... Dad. I ... have to ... better said, we have to tell you urgently ...", my angel stuttered nervously.
"... tell you something. Can we maybe postpone the coffee until later?", I finished Bella's sentence.
"What's going on? Did something happen?"
As expected, Charlie looked at us in shock and questioning.
"I'm pregnant," Bella blurted out.
