Polin in marital bliss

An evening by your side with a book

Summary:

Colin and Penelope, so in love, are in marital bliss as they enjoy their honeymoon. They spend a calm evening enjoying their time together.

It was two weeks after the Dankworth-Finch ball and Penelope and Colin were still on their honeymoon, well it had just started to be more precise. They were still hiding away from the world, too busy to care for anyone else right now except the company of their spouses. It was enough for them, they did not feel the need for anyone else, just the two of them seemed paramount.

They had just taken lunch in their bedchamber after a lazy morning, unable to and not wanting to move from their cosy bed after waking up. Colin was narrating stories of his childhood to Pen and she was having a laugh about the various adventures he had been living, sometimes adding her own part as she recalled some which included her as well. Colin had rested his head on her lap comfortably while Pen was stroking his curly hair softly as they talked, both were living in supreme happiness.

At last, it had been hunger which had compelled them to move from their snuggly position and their extreme unwillingness to part from each other. Colin had cried out hunger which had also made Pen aware of the same for her as he mentioned it alarmingly.

After having had lunch in the bedchamber itself, they laid lazily on the settee outside of it, each of them reading a book of their own. Pen was laying beside Colin, her shoulders pressed against the back pillows of the settee and her husband's arm while her legs laid lazily on him as Colin took the whole settee to lay resting his back against the inside arm, immersed in his book as well.

Not too long after, Colin started feeling bored with his book and decided to close it and he put it down. In fact it was not the book's fault, he mostly preferred to observe what his wife was doing instead. He was well aware that she was also reading a book, of course, but he wanted to participate with her in whatever she was doing.

Besides, it would not be possible to concentrate on a book with his wife lounging next to him with her smelling like freshly collected rose petals and her body feeling so soft and comfy. Already being close to her, he slightly moved and gently placed his chin on her chubby shoulder and wrapped one arm around her waist to feel closer to her and Penelope instantly smiled upon those gestures.

Hearing his voice close, Pen felt a tickle as he talked in a rather lazy tone upon her shoulder. "What are you reading?" Pen turned her head slightly in his direction, feeling his breath on her cheek as she replied in a low voice. "It's a romantic novel."

"What is it about?" Colin inquired and Penelope explained in the same tone.

"It's about a knight who saves a non-famous princess in danger as her horrible family decides to send her on exile for no reason. She nearly thought she was about to die in the forest until the knight came to rescue her. He doesn't know she's a princess yet and he's about to find out…perhaps, I don't know." Colin smiled lightly, scanning her face with the closer view he obtained as she explained before she turned to look back at her book.

"Hmmmm." He wrapped the other arm around her waist joining both arms and pulled her closer so her back was resting totally against his chest and he nuzzled himself in her neck momentarily inhaling her scent with a low moan before placing his chin back on her shoulder, closer to her neck this time. "Is that how you felt when I came to you?" his soft voice is echoing in her collarbone as he speaks, his breath hot.

Pen lifted her head from her book and tilted it, unable to turn her face since Colin was too close. Seeing her reaction, Colin perceived she was confused and he pursued. "I am referring to when you were lost and I came to rescue you. Well, perhaps you did not require any saving but it was mandatory that I come to steal you. I could not lose you, you were the princess in my story after all. A beautiful, kind, brave, lovely, and clever princess. You are even more than I had ever dreamed of you. I cannot imagine not being able to have you by my side, I simply cannot." Colin was observing her intently as he spoke, his voice emanating warmth in a tender low tone.

The words made her heart flutter and she felt her whole body quiver over his words. Penelope put her opened book down, detached herself slightly from his chest and shifted forward vaguely to be able to turn and look at her husband. Colin removed his chin from her shoulder and tilted his head, looking at her warmly with a bright smile lighting up his face, his dark blue eyes twinkling.

"Colin…" The words did not get out of her mouth as she studied his face, her amazed light blue gaze gently roaming over his whole face as she felt herself dreaming.

"I…" She didn't know what to say to Colin after that statement. She was also still processing all that he had just uttered, the words, the meaning of them and as her gaze appeared confounded as she took in his features, Colin quickly added. "I mean it Pen, you are my princess or I should rather say my queen now and this is exactly how I want you to feel like, with me. There will also be a princess; our daughter will be our princess." He let out a soft light laugh as he spoke the last words looking gently in her eyes.

Happiness trembled inside of her and she felt as though she was floating, a huge smile spread across her face as she stared affectionately in Colin's eyes and declared in a soft pleading tone, her voice above a whisper. "I love you." Glancing between his lips and his eyes, he immediately understood what she desired and leaned over to kiss her. It was a sweet and tender kiss, slow and fervently communicating what they felt for each other.

Penelope turned her body more to be able to reach for his cheek, cupping it in her palm, stroking his cheek with her thumb as their lips danced together. The kiss lasted for quite a while before they broke, not wanting to part, desiring to keep on kissing. They were in such close proximity that their eyelashes connected as they opened their eyes in unison. They then shifted slightly backwards to look at each other better.

As Pen gazed tenderly in his eyes, she stated intensely. "I am so lucky and so thankful to have you in my life, Colin. So lucky, truly. You cannot imagine how fortunate I feel having you by my side." Her voice faintly trembled with emotion as her lips curved into a thankful smile, tears welling up in her eyes as she pressed her palm against her cheek.

Colin narrowed his eyes and teasingly replied. "Now Pen, do not steal what I said. It is I who's lucky to have you in my life." Pen exhaled loudly with a quick laugh forming into a large grin, her eyes sparkling at Colin through the formed tears. "My queen." They rested their foreheads upon each other for a moment and joined their lips in a short tender kiss.

As their lips parted, still cupping his face, Penelope showered her husband with kisses, on his neck, his cheek, his jaw line while giggling and finally closing it with a slurpy deep and loud peck on his mouth as with eyes closed Colin smiled, giggled, relishing the endless doting love from his wife. After Colin's whole neck and other parts of his face were filled with kisses, Pen stopped and gazed back fondly at him with a bright smile on her face, stroking his cheek with her thumb as she cupped it.

"Will you narrate to me the rest of the story, Pen? I am curious to find out what happens next. I hope the princess and the knight do marry and live a happy story like us." Penelope nodded at her husband and they got back to their previous cosy position after Colin pressed a soft kiss on her temple when she took her book again. Penelope narrated the rest of the story to him with Colin looking into her book from her shoulder as she read the remainder of the story in a narrative calm voice.

As he listened to her intently, inhaling her scent and occasionally placing soft kisses on her neck and shoulder, Colin tickled her a few times just to hear her laugh near his ears when she laughed melodiously the first time he did it accidentally while trying to shift his hand. She was not usually ticklish but perhaps it was the position she was less naughty, her body was rather warm with all the feelings they were sharing instead of the usual heat engulfing her body.

They spent the whole afternoon that way until they both dozed off. Penelope had already even completed the story and she would giggle when Colin would refer to some of the novel's romantic scenarios to their own story while kissing her neck or her shoulder while occasionally faintly moaning in her neck when he mentioned them.

Before they dozed off, with Penelope resting her head on Colin's chest and their arms and even legs wrapped around each other, Colin was lost in his musing, thinking about how it took him so many years to notice Penelope and how all the time lost could have turned into what they are spending right now instead of him trying to mingle with the wrong people. Then he recalled what she had previously told him about not regretting anything that had transpired in the past but to rather enjoy their current time together so instead he pondered on their future, looking forward to living similar moments like these with his wife.

Colin also dreamed of a mini version of Penelope resting along with them on the settee after running around all day. His heart warmed at the notion of it and he tightened the grip on Penelope's back as he shut his eyes to rest after placing a light kiss on her head.

Simultaneously along with Colin, on the other hand as Penelope's eyes were closed, resting her head on Colin's chest while listening to his heartbeats, she pondered over how lucky she felt. She was not sure if he could say he was lucky for having her because she felt so much more lucky indeed. Having a man who loved her so much even after all the troubles she caused, all the mistakes she made and having that man go head over heels for her was simply a dream come true.

Colin absolutely treated her like a queen and she was confident he would do so the rest of their lives, she had no doubt about him. She tightened her grip of the hand wrapped under his back over his shoulder as she inhaled his comforting scent, feeling more than thankful to be resting in the arms of the man she had dreamed of for so many years of her life.

As she relished the comfort of her husband while thinking of her fortunate life, before dozing off Penelope dreamed of a little boy the same as Colin, the exact soft brown hair, the same blue eyes and mostly with the same level of care and kindness as his father, not forgetting his sense of humour.

Colin and Penelope did not wake up until it was completely dark and it was time for dinner, wholly melted in each other's arms.
