Chapter 663 Irreparable
"Broken... Shattered?!"
The Diadem of Ravenclaw, the legendary magical object, had split into two pieces.
Evan blinked and could not believe it.
He looked in astonishment at the rusted diadem. There was no magic left in it.
With the diadem breaking, the Horcrux of Voldemort that resided within it also dissipated and vanished completely.
Now, this diadem was just an ordinary iron headband, as common as anything else. If he didn't know it was the Diadem of Ravenclaw, he wouldn't even give it a second glance.
He picked up one of the halves and examined it closely.
Was the texture of this thing too fragile, or was the venomous Basilisk serpent too powerful?!
It was important to note that when the Dark Lord created the Horcruxes, he cast powerful curses on them to protect them from harm.
It was futile to tear apart a Horcrux, crush it, or reduce it to dust to destroy it. Under the influence of magic, it would restore itself as if nothing had happened.
Hence, something extremely destructive was needed so that it could no longer be repaired with magic. The venomous Basilisk serpent was a choice, as the Basilisk venom only had one antidote, the tears of a Phoenix.
Evan had thought of using the venom to destroy what resided in the Diadem. He did not expect the deteriorated diadem to break when stabbed with the sharp fang, like an ordinary object without magic.
He did not know what Voldemort had done to the Diadem of Ravenclaw, or was it just how it was?!
Evan placed the Diadem back on the table and waved his wand, "Reparo!"
There was a flash of red light, but there was no reaction. His magic could not repair the broken diadem.
"Interesting," Evan picked up the Diadem again and held it in his hand.
There was only one possible explanation for this happening, that his magical power was not strong enough.
What Evan needed to fix was far beyond his capability, hence the spell had failed.
In other words, the Diadem of Ravenclaw was not as simple as it seemed, and there were magical powers that Evan did not understand.
He knew that Voldemort had modified the Diadem to appear ordinary. That was not the original appearance of the Diadem.
To restore it, Evan needed the help of stronger magical powers, such as the Philosopher's Stone or the Elder Wand.
The power of the Philosopher's Stone could not be used lightly. It needed to be guided by a magical set.
In his recent research on the magical set of stars above the Centaur Temple and the magical set called Silence sculpted in the Silent Temple, Evan had made great progress and was gradually discovering the correct way to use the Philosopher's Stone.
But all in all, he was just beginning and still needed time to carry out further research. There was no way to use the Philosopher's Stone in the short term.
Only the Elder Wand remained. It seemed he had to go to Dumbledore.
Evan took the two pieces of the Diadem to study them further. But if he couldn't, he would go seek Dumbledore.
Either way, there was enough time before the next Gathering of the Water Elves.
Evan left the Room of Requirement and transformed it into a Chamber of Secrets equipped for potions. He re-entered to check on it and place the potions and ingredients that Caresius had given him.
All those things had been stolen from Snape's private cabinet, and there were many precious herbs that were not suitable to carry around.
So, Evan summoned Dobby and asked him to bring some food. He was starving. After all, he hadn't eaten anything all day.
When Evan returned to the Common Room, Harry, Ron, and Hermione were still discussing how to breathe underwater.
There were many books on the table in front of them, including "Wild Magic for Mad Wizards," "Guide to Medieval Sorcery," "Anthology of 18th Century Charms," "Terrifying Denizens of the Abyss and Powers You Never Knew You Had and What to Do with Them Now That You Know," etc.
Hermione was trying to find a way to survive underwater, while Harry and Ron argued.
They were pondering the possibility of deliberately angering Professor Moody and have him use Transfiguration on Ron.
"Evan, you've returned. Where have you been all day with Professor Moody?"
Seeing Evan enter the Common Room, his three companions shone with excitement in their eyes.
"Evan, do you have any method for breathing underwater?" Ron asked quickly, looking at him expectantly.
Evan approached and sat next to Hermione. "Breathing underwater? It's a good idea to use the Bubble Charm."
"Hermione said it takes six years to learn that magic," Harry said. "Is there any other way?"
The three quickly told Evan the secret of the Golden Egg, although he already knew it.
"You must help me, Evan," Ron said with a sigh. "Otherwise, I'll drown in the water!"
"Yes, there's nothing we can do about it," Harry said. "We can only rely on you."
"Well, if the Bubble Charm doesn't work, you'll have to use Gillyweed," Evan said, seizing the opportunity to produce Gillyweed and hand it to Ron. "Just in time, I have this herb here. You can eat it before the task; it will help you breathe underwater for an hour, long enough to complete the task!"
"Are you sure this works?" Ron looked indecisively at what looked like greenish-gray rat tails.
"Gillyweed?" Hermione also looked at it and suddenly remembered something. "I wonder where I've seen it... yes... in Magical Aquatic Plants of the Mediterranean and Their Properties. I checked it out of the library as a supplement for Potions class."
"Is this plant reliable?"
"Of course, it works. When ingested, it will give you gills and membranes between your fingers and toes, allowing you to swim easily and breathe underwater. It's one of the most amazing plants," Hermione said, looking at Evan. "I should have thought of it, but it's very, very rare. Evan, where did you get the Gillyweed?"
"Well, it's part of my personal collection. You know, I've been brewing potions. I asked Professor Lupin to help me gather all sorts of rare ingredients… and it happened to be among them," Evan explained.
"So, you always carry it with you?!"
"Yes," Evan nodded. "My extended cloth bag by the Undetectable Extension Charm can hold many things."
Seeing Hermione's expression, it was evident she was suspicious. This girl was always very sharp with these things.
She and Evan stared at each other for a while, but she didn't continue asking.
As for Harry and Ron, they were still there examining the Gillyweed, and there was no issue.
They hoped to successfully pass the second task, and Evan also hoped to confront Voldemort…
