Adam can't deny things are rough right now. His recovery repeatedly stalling out for one reason or another, to the point where he can't even travel out weekly with Max to be there for the Undisputed Kingdom. Turning in to Dynamite or the weekend shows just to hear Roddy and the Kingdom carry on like he hadn't been kicked in the balls and brainbustered out of the situation. Like his sudden absence doesn't matter at all.

So he finishes rehab and he goes home to Max's penthouse and he gets into more comfortable clothes, he picks Piper up and he retreats into bed, curling up around the cat. She bats at him a little, before settling down against his abs, her steady, warm purring drawing him under into a deep, dream-free sleep for the first time in he's not sure how long.

When he wakes up, it's dark out and there's a soft shuffling from the hallway, Max's soft voice greeting Piper as she curls around his ankles. Adam half-dozes as Max drops his luggage in the living room, making his way to the kitchen and fiddling around in the fridge before making his way back to the bedroom.

"Hey, BayBay," he says quietly, shrugging out of his jacket and kicking his sneakers and jeans off and away before dropping into bed next to him. "How did rehab go yesterday?"

Adam shrugs. "Exhausting," he mumbles, burying his face in Max's shoulder and breathing in deeply. "I missed you."

"Missed you too," Max says, brushing his fingers through Adam's hair gently. "But I have a full day to myself, so..."

Adam hums. "What do you want to do?" he asks, eyes still closed. "Explore the city, go partying, or-"

"Or," Max says, tilting Adam's face up and kissing him. "I would like us to spend all day in bed. I have sandwiches from that deli you like, and I got cake from that bakery downtown, and we're just going to be lazy today. Alright? You and me, just like this. Lazy and sleepy and doting on Piper. How's that sound?"

Adam looks up. Stares deep into Max's eyes. "Really? You don't want to go out and do anything? I know how keyed up you are after shows."

"We are doing something," Max says with a small smile. "Alone time with you is all I want right now, Adam. Sound alright to you?"

"Sounds great," Adam says, settling against him and closing his eyes. "If you're sure."

"I'm sure," Max says. "Whenever I have to go to a show, I miss just getting to lay here and hold you after your rehab appointments."

Adam smiles. "Sweet talker," he muses, pressing kisses to Max's lips, his forehead, his nose. "I love you."

"I love you too," he says. "Piper!"

The cat makes an inquisitive noise before leaping up onto the bed and slinking up between them, curling on top of the pillow over Max's head.

"There, now everything's perfect," Max sighs, pressing a kiss to Adam's forehead. "Sleep tight, baybay."

Adam hums, drifting off again. The world may be passing him by as he struggles to finish rehabbing his leg, fighting to get out of this stasis he's been in since last fall, but at least he still has this.
