The two groups were still in Hau'oli City to catch up for old times sake.
"Have you ever actually seen a duel take place?" Ash suddenly asked.
His former classmates had no idea what he was talking about.
"How about we show them exactly what we're talking about." Jaden figured the best way for them to understand was to actually see it in person.
Ash pondered it for a little bit.
"I have the perfect opponent in mind to demonstrate it." He glanced at Syrus.
Syrus stared back at his friend.
"Let's do it." He mentally prepared himself for the duel against the black-haired Obelisk.
They took their places with the others watching from the side.
Their duel disks then activated.
"Would you like me to go first or do you want to?" Ash offered.
"I'll go first." Syrus stated.
"Fine by me." Ash responded.
"This is going to be good." His former classmates commented.
"Duel!" They shout.
Ash: 4000
Syrus: 4000
Syrus drew his starting hand and then 7 Completed as his sixth card.
"Here goes. I summon Steamroid in attack mode." (4/1800/1800)
"Next I set this to end my turn."
"Good start. Here's a better one." Ash drew his sixth card and then inspected the rest of his hand.
"I play Hound Dragon in attack mode." (3/1700/100)
"What the?" Ash's classmates blink.
"Now attack." He commanded.
Hound Dragon took a bite out of Steamroid.
Syrus braced himself.
Syrus: 3600
"I'll end my turn there." Ash announced.
"What did we just witness?"
"That's what we call a Duel Monster." Alexis elaborated. "They're creatures similar to Pokemon."
"Back to me then." Syrus drew a card from his deck.
"I summon Gyroid in defense mode." (3/1000/1000)
"He's gonna have a hard time getting past Gyroid." Jaden commented.
"What do you mean?" Lillie asked the brunette Slifer.
Bastion provided the answer.
"Gyroid is a monster that requires more than one attack to destroy due to it's effect."
"Oh." Kiawe whispered.
"That's all I'm going to do at the moment." Syrus declared.
Ash would have to summon two monsters on his turn to destroy Gyroid in battle.
"Let's do it." He started his turn by drawing a card.
"I use this." Ash slipped a spell card into his duel disk.
It was the spell card Double Summon.
"I bring out Red-Eyes Wyvern and Sapphire Dragon in attack mode." (4/1800/1600) (4/1900/1600)
"Sapphire Dragon, attack with Sapphire Spark." Dark blue fire enveloped Gyroid, but it wasn't destroyed.
"Red-Eyes Wyvern is next." A red fireball destroyed Gyroid.
"Now, Hound Dragon. Take a bite out of his life points." Hound Dragon lunged at Syrus.
Syrus: 1900
'This is not going well.' Syrus thought.
More than half of his life points were gone and the duel had just started. He needed to do something to turn the duel around.
"My move." He drew Wonder Garage from his deck to start his turn.
'That's not going to do me any good right now.'
He took another card out of his hand.
"I summon Decoyroid in defense mode." (2/300/500)
"This is confusing." Sophocles stated.
He didn't understand the logic behind that move.
As long as Decoyroid was on the field, it is the only monster on his field that can be attacked.
It was the only thing he could do considering the circumstances.
Ash said nothing in response to Syrus' move as he began his turn by drawing The White Stone of Legend.
"I summon Galaxy Serpent." (2/1000/0)
"Three monsters. What is he planning to do?" Lillie asked.
"You're about to find out what he's up to." Alexis smirked.
She knew what those three monsters on the field meant after seeing them in past duels.
"I tune Galaxy Serpent with Red-Eyes Wyvern and Sapphire Dragon to make Trident Dragion." (10/3000/2800)
"No way!" His former classmates exclaim in shock when the monster appeared on the field.
They had never seen something like this.
"Is this you meant earlier?" Mallow asked Alexis.
"Yes." She nodded.
"This game's basic premise is to drop your opponent's life points down to 0." Bastion briefly explained how Duel Monsters worked to avoid giving them a headache.
"So it's similar to a Pokemon battle in regards to the amount of individuals involved." Kiawe noted.
"That's the gist of it, yes." Jaden replied.
They go back to watching the duel.
"I wonder who will win this?" Lana asked the others.
They wondered the same thing.
Only time would tell who was triumphant in this duel.
"I destroy Hound Dragon with Trident Dragion's effect. Trident Dragion gains a additional attack this turn."
Jaden gasped.
"Sy's about to lose."
That was plainly obvious since he only had 1900 life points left.
"If I'm going to lose this duel, I might as well go down fighting." Syrus declared, getting his second wind.
"I summon Submarineroid in attack mode."
"Go, Deep Death Impact!" Two torpedoes were fired from Submarineroid.
Ash: 3200
He stopped shielding himself after the attack connected.
"That's it for my turn." Syrus announced.
"Guess I'm up next." Ash drew a card.
"I'd like you to meet Black Dragon's Chick." (1/800/500)
"But it won't be staying for long."
He was going to destroy it to use Trident Dragion's effect.
"Now attack Submarineroid." Submarineroid was set on fire.
"End this duel." The last of Syrus's life points were wiped out.
Syrus: 0
Ash's former classmates were awestruck.
"That...was awesome!" Sophocles cried out.
"I'll say." Kiawe agreed with his friend.
This was their first time seeing a duel and it was exciting.
"Intense." Lillie whispered.
"We thought the same thing after witnessing a duel for the first time last year." Misty commented.
Brock nodded in agreement.
"Should we learn how to play?" Sophocles asked.
Kiawe, Lana, Lillie and Mallow were intrigued by the idea.
"As soon as we get back, I'll have a word with Chancellor Sheppard."
"Who?" They asked in unison.
"He's the man that's in charge of Duel Academy. As a result, he is able to assign dorms to new students."
"The only question now is how do we leave this universe?"
It would take time to do that.
They would worry about it another time.
