Prologue
For every person, there comes a moment when everything in their life changes. When their life takes a turn for the best or worst. A single instant when the axis of your world tilts, and nothing remains the same. I call it the moment. The moment that you never forget. No matter how much time passes, you look back at it, and it still feels unreal.
It could be anything—a perfect grade that opens doors, a failure that slams them shut. A fleeting romance that sets your heart alight, or the crushing loss of someone you thought would always be there. Everyone feels it differently—some experience joy so overwhelming it borders on magic, while others are left shattered, clinging to the pieces of what once was.
In my case, all I felt was numb.
A numbness that took over my entire being. The pain arrived later, creeping in like a storm—anger, regret, loss and heartbreak. But in that moment, the world stood still, and my mind refused to make sense of what was happening. The moment when everything changed for me.
That was the moment.
The moment someone walked into my life and twisted the way I saw the world. The moment that led me on a path of love and loss and friendship and betrayal.
It was the moment I realized that everything I had worked for my entire life didn't matter anymore. And what I believed in was never the whole truth. And the worst part? I wasn't as alone as I had believed. That was the moment my world turned around.
When I realized that I was never alone.
I never had been.
