After the game, Irie treated the team, Mion, Rena, and Keiichi to ice cream. While most of the team was gone now, our main cast was relaxing in the stands. Rosa and the others had changed from their baseball uniforms to their regular clothes, but Shion kept the double ponytail in her hair.
"I knew I'd be the one to win it for the team today." Satoko smiled as she licked her ice cream.
"Sure you did." Rosa rolled her eyes as she sat above her and held Maria.
"Will you at least thank Rosa?" Shion giggled as she sat beside Rosa. "She's the one that gave you a pep talk before you hit the home run."
"I know, but I'm still the one that hit it." Satoko crossed her arms.
"And I'm very proud of you, Satoko." Rosa giggled. Satoko blushed as she turned away from Rosa.
"Satoko did a great job during the game." Rika smiled.
"You did too, Rika." Rosa turned to look at her. "I'm also proud of you."
"Nipah," Rika replied.
"It was a good game." Rena smiled before looking at Keiichi and frowning. "I feel bad that Keiichi got hurt, though."
"Don't feel bad." Keiichi clutched his chest. "If I hadn't jumped in the way, you or Maria would have been hurt."
"That's our Keiichi." Mion smiled as she put her arm around the back of his neck. "Ready to jump in harm's way for all of us."
Keiichi started to cringe as Mion moved him, making her jump and back away from him. She blushed as he clutched his chest before frowning and looking away.
"Your sister really isn't good at hiding things," Rosa whispered as she leaned towards Shion.
"What gave it away?" Shion whispered back, giggling.
Rosa rolled her eyes as she got up and walked over, still holding Maria.
"Well, I'm thankful you were there for Rena and my daughter." Rosa smiled as she stood by Keiichi. "Who knows how bad it would have been if it hit either of them."
"Like I said, it was…" Keiichi tried to say before feeling Rosa give him a peck on the cheek. He blushed as he looked up at her.
"You have no idea how much that means to see you jump in the way for my baby girl." Rosa smiled. "You'll realize that when you have your own kids someday."
"Oh ho ho ho!" Satoko laughed. "Who would want to have kids with him?"
"I don't know." Rosa smiled as she looked up at a certain girl with green hair. "How about you, Mion? Any ideas?"
Mion quickly turned around and looked down as she was blushing even more now. Seeing Rosa kiss Keiichi already made her flustered, but hearing that made it much worse.
"Mion's so kyute." Rena giggled. "Rosa was also kyute giving Keiichi a kiss as a thank you."
"Probably the first kiss Keiichi ever got." Shion laughed.
"Why did you give him a kiss anyway, Rosa?" Satoko looked at her.
"I did the same to my nephew after Maria was born." Rosa smiled.
"You mean, Battler?" Shion stood up.
"Yeah, him." Rosa sighed. "Since I was alone, his dad sent him up to help me around the house cause I was still pregnant with Maria. He was supposed to leave sooner, but Maria didn't feel the need to come when she was supposed to?"
"Come when she was supposed to?" Shion raised an eyebrow.
"She was supposed to be born early March, but she ended up being born late March instead." Rosa giggled as she looked down at Maria, who was smiling. "I was actually telling Battler it had been long enough and he should just go home, but then my water broke, and he had to call 911."
"Bet that was scary, scary." Rena frowned as she looked up at Rosa.
"He won't admit it, but he was terrified." Rosa sighed. "However, he still immediately got on the phone and rode with me to the hospital."
"Did he help deliver her too?" Shion smiled. "That would have been adorable for your nephew to do all that for his favorite aunt."
"No, and I'm happy he wasn't in the room." Rosa frowned. "At least based on what he and the doctors told me after, since I still don't remember."
"What do you mean?" Shion frowned.
Over a year ago, a 13-year-old boy stood in a waiting room alone, pacing back and forth. He was somehow both nervous and excited. While seeing his aunt in pain scared him, he was happy knowing he'd have a new little cousin. Someone he could teach cool stuff to and someone who would look up to him for a change since his other cousins were either much older or a month younger than him.
"Mr. Ushiromiya." A doctor said as he walked into the waiting room.
"Can I see my aunt and little cousin now?" Battler smiled as he ran over. However, it dropped as the doctor was frowning.
"We just want to know; we're ensuring both are okay." The doctor explained.
"What do you mean?" Battler frowned. "What's wrong with my aunt?"
"During the delivery, your aunt hit the back of her head and became unconscious." The doctor continued as Battler's eyes got wide.
"Is…. is she…?" Battler started to sniffle as he began breathing hard.
"Your aunt is still unconscious right now, but she's stable." The doctor said as Battler began to cry.
"What about her baby?" Battler covered his eyes.
"The baby is being examined. Because your aunt passed out, we had to do an emergency C-section."
Battler fell to his knees as he cried louder.
"I can assure you she was alive and crying when she was born like any other baby." The doctor kneeled and put his hand on Battler's shoulder. "We take all these precautions with any emergency C-section."
"Can I see my aunt?" Battler sniffled.
The doctor helped Battler up and led him down a hall. He opened the door to a room where Rosa was on a bed, with bandages covering the top of her head. If it hadn't been for that, you would assume Rosa was just sleeping.
"I'll leave you two alone." The doctor shut the door as Battler stood there staring at his aunt.
After a few minutes, Battler grabbed a chair and pulled it close to the hospital bed before sitting in it. He kept looking at his aunt the whole time, wondering what to say, especially since the day started with them arguing about Battler staying.
Battler was supposed to head back home but refused because he was worried about Rosa. Today, she had decided it was enough and told him he was going home tomorrow. He argued back that he wouldn't leave her alone, but Rosa said he didn't get a say because he was just a kid and she was an adult. The more they argued, the more hurt Battler got as he yelled he would go home and be happy if he never saw his aunt again. Rosa's water broke before she could say something back, leading to Battler calling 911. Battler started to cry as he remembered those last lines to his aunt.
"Auntie…" Battler leaned onto the bed as he grabbed Rosa's hand. "Auntie, I'm sorry for what I said earlier. Please wake up."
Battler cried louder as he held her hand tighter. Aunt Rosa was there whenever someone had to watch him when his parents were away. Outside of them, no one played with him, helped him with his homework, or told them how much they loved him as much as Rosa did. He was scared she'd never wake up, and their last conversation would be him saying he never wanted to see her again.
"I promise if you wake up, I'll be a good nephew and do whatever you say!" Battler cried louder. "I'll even care for your daughter like you always cared for me! Just please wake up!"
"Battler…" Battler's eyes widened as he looked up and saw Rosa's eyes were now open. "What happened?"
