Kagome spent all day Wednesday stretching her aura out as far as she could to feel the exact moment her Alpha would be arriving. She was starting to suspect him of hiding from her. After dinner she was exhausted from her searching and went to bed early.
It was only a few hours later that there was a knock at the door. Chief Swan answered it wearily, everyone had just started getting ready for bed. On the other side of the door was a strikingly good looking male with long silver hair. He had a 'no nonsense' look about him and his honey-colored eyes made you feel small, like a child. Charlie had a feeling that this guy was dangerous.
The stranger spoke in a deep timbre, "You must be Chief Swan. I am a dear friend of your daughter's. I know that it is late, but she requested I come see her as soon as I landed."
Kagome bolted out of bed at the first sound of his voice. She was at the top of the stairs by the time he had finished speaking. "Sesshomaru!? Is that really you??"
Charlie allowed the newly dubbed "Sesshomaru" inside. He was starting to worry abouy what kind of friends that his daughter has. He watched as the man moved to the bottom of the stairs, looking up at her with a soft smile. Kagome let out a sob and then jumped off the top stair, diving for him. Sesshomaru caught her easily, holding her to him as she wrapped herself around him sobbing into his shoulder. Charlie was at a loss, the stunt with the stairs nearly gave him a heart attack, but the sobbing stopped his temper from flaring. He was terrible with emotions, period, but crying women were his kryptonite.
Sesshomaru carried his miko over to the coach and sat with her, calmly stroking her hair while she cried herself out. He had missed her more than he would ever admit to. She had a way of making him feel safe. Which, for a powerful being such as he, was a rare trait to find in another. He had thought briefly about making her his, but the idea didn't quite fit. She was far too emotional for him to handle. The only other being to evoke such frustratingly contrasting emotions was his idiot of a little brother. Which lead him to catagorize her as a sibling like figure, and so he gave her that role. She took it happily. She was always a source of happiness. Like now, she was sobbing tears of joy and couldn't contain it anymore. The Great Lord didn't mind, he was just as much her safe place as she was his. A true sibling relationship that he never had with Inuyasha.
Kagome ended up cring herself back to sleep. Sesshomaru could smell the exhaustion and relief coming off of her in waves. He would make sure she started taking better care of herself. He continued running his claws through her hair, taking in her scent again for the first time in centuries, as she slept on him. His Miko's father looked concerned and confused. Sesshomaru decided to ease his worries, "I am not sure how much you know of Kagome and my idiotic little brother's relationship, but when it got to it's worst, when he got to his must abusive, she came to me and I have protected her ever since. Being away from me was taking a toll on her, but I'm here now and I have no intention of leaving her again."
Charlie had to take a seat at this point. The one thing he hoped neither of his girls would ever have to endure and his baby girl already has. Abuse from your own spouse was a special kind of scar that could stay with her forever. He wouldn't mind knowing more about this ex-boyfriend of hers, "Is he gonna come looking for her too?"
Sesshomaru shook his head in the negative, "He's dead." His jaw tightened like he was talking through his teeth in anger, "Kagome still blames herself. She feels that she could have tried harder to stop him from following his beloved Kikyo into death."
"You say that name almost like its a cursed word!?" Charlie inquired.
"It is a taboo name around Kagome. They could have been twins. It was their likeness that drew my brother's interest in Kagome, after Kikyo had died. She was to be her replacement. He tried quite hard to mold her, but Kagome a force all on her own and she will not be tamed." Sesshomaru explained easily, though the next part would not be. "She has fallen back asleep, but likely will not relinquish her hold on me anytime soon. I will remain here until she awakens."
Charlie had a lot to process from just the little bit of information that he had been given. He, however, did not feel comfortable with his sixteen year old daughter sleeping in a grown man's lap. "I would feel a lot better if she were put in her bed."
Sesshomaru just chuckled and stood. Waiting for the chief to 'show' him the way to her room. When he tried to lay her down she gripped on to him tighter. He even tried to murmur in her ear to lay down on her bed, but she just didn't want to let go, so Sesshomaru layed them both down, on top of her blankets, with the door wide open.
This was not what Charlie had meant, but couldn't really argue further after watching him try to shake her off. She was very determined to not let go. He watched as Sesshomaru tried to cover as much of her as possible with her blanket. Coming to the conclusion that this was a done deal, the Chief said the only thing that would make him feel better, "The door stays open!!"
Sesshomaru snorted, "You have no need to worry over such things. Kagome is like a little sister to me. I would never do anything to her."
That did make Charlie feel a bit better as he headed to his own bed.
