"Why are we here?" I asked my dad. We were in Él Morro. I looked over the edge, where the wave crashed against the rocks below. The absence of the sun made the waters look like an abyss.
"This is where we used to fly kites together. A true father and son moment. Those were good times." He said behind me. I rolled my eyes. A little too late to reminisce about the past when he abandoned us. "Just know whatever happens, I will always love you, mijo." He started to sniffle.
I turned to face him. "Lis-"
*BANG!*
I open my eyes, groaning in pain. I'm inside a garbage bin in an uncomfortable position. I shuffle around and peek my head out. Buildings are destroyed and the streets are littered with corpses of the damned. I hop out. Time to reap the rewards. I found a new red shirt, khaki pants and a switchblade. The clothes may have holes, but it certainly beats having a three month old jacket and a garbage bag as pants. The survivors are emerging from their hiding spots doing the same thing as me. Better get out before someone wants to start shit. Time to do my weekly humanity vibe check while making my way towards the park.
My name is Daniel Gomez. I am a twenty-four year old man who lived with his mother to support the family. Keyword being lived. Because I am dead. All because the bastard known as my father shot me and I fell into the dark waters. Now I'm in Hell. Specifically Pentagram City. How did I get here? That's the million dollar question. I know I'm no angel, but to be placed alongside rapists and serial killers isn't exactly what I call fair. My body has become a scaly chameleon. That's probably the only good thing I can think of, since I can climb walls. I don't think they can do that, but anything is possible at this point. Been surviving the streets for three months before the Extermination. That's when angels from Heaven descend to eradicate the demons and sinners. I was lucky that they never checked the obvious hiding spots.
"Hey you!" I turn to face a minotaur furry approaching me. Great. Trouble always seems to find me in some way. "Give me those clothes."
"Sorry. Finders keeper." I say.
He cracks his knuckles. "I will definitely find it when I'm done with your ass."
"I tried to be civil." I shrug. He throws a predictable right hook at me. I dodge and knee his stomach. He is gasping for air and I take this opportunity to plunge the switchblade to his neck, then slice it open as he falls to the ground, drowning from his own blood. He'll sadly survive. So far, only angels can permanently kill us. Ensuring the erasure of our existence.

What the fuck is this? Two dead naked demons on my bench, clearly having sex before their preventable demise. At least they went out doing something they loved. Their own self pleasures. I shove them off, use my old clothes to clean the mess and put on the ones I scavenged before sitting on my throne. Letting me witness the heavily destroyed city.
The citizens are going about their day as if it was a normal Tuesday. Some are feasting on the corpses, which means I can sleep with one eye open for tonight. Others are copulating with the dead. Honestly, I'm more worried about how unfazed this whole degeneracy has made me. But this basically feels like Earth except Hell themed. Where the light within us has been devoured by our darkness.
Then I gaze upon the sky, where the gates of Heaven reside. It is shining brightly as the sun, but with the warm glow of the moon. I could stare at it for hours without it bothering my eyes. "God, how can you punish me without telling me the sins I've committed?" I've asked this question probably a million times.
I can feel hunger setting in. Even though we cannot die in the traditional sense, our bodies still crave for the needs to survive. As much as I want to lie here, I need to get something to eat before I go insane. I give an exasperated sigh as I get up and wander through the city.
I pass by an electronic store, when a commercial appears on one of the televisions. It's announcing a rehabilitation facility for sinners known as Hazbin Hotel. Although the announcer is making it sound very unpleasant. Almost like a parody. Mentioning the daddy issues of the princess. Boy, do I relate to that. But still, they mentioned a free stay with food, water and shelter. Even though this could be a trap, it's worth checking out. I mean what do I have to lose?
Hazbin Hotel
I stop in front of the entrance. Despite being recently constructed, it looks rundown. Not to mention pretty intimidating. Here goes nothing. I'm about to knock, when the door bursts open and we both crash onto the floor! "Ungh!" Of course I had to be the cushion.
"S-Sorry!" The person gets off me. I shake my head and look up. I am amazed by the demon before me. It's the Princess of Hell herself. Her golden hair tied into a ponytail, her pale snow white skin, the red dots on her cheeks complimenting her crimson eyes. "Are you okay? Your scales turned pink."
"H-Huh!?" God dammit! I hate that my scales change according to my emotions. I quickly stand up. "Y-Yeah. I'm good." Come on, scales. Change back to your red and yellow default!
"Do you need something, little guy?" She says while bending to get on my eye level. She's a tall demon.
"I saw the commercial an-" I don't finish when she gives the biggest grin, showing off her sharp canines.
"Are you here for rehabilitation!?" I'm taken aback by her excited energy. I nod. She clasps her hands together. "THAT'S GREAT!" She gets behind me and pushes me inside with surprising strength! "You are going to love it here! We have friendly staff!" She points towards a silver haired woman who has a cara de pocos amigos and a little cyclops girl who is trying to stab a giant rat with a comically large needle. "A bar!" She motions towards said bar with a cat demon clearly not wanting to be here. "And most importantly, another sinner who also wants to be redeemed!" There's a pink furred spider sinner on the couch who is very unamused.
"Isn't he a famous pornstar?" I ask.
"THE famous pornstar. Get it right, hon." He winks at me.
A sudden chill courses through my body as my scales turn red. I turn to face a grinning red demon next to me. "This is our investor in the hotel. He means well…sometimes." Charlie says.
He approaches me. "I'm surprised someone actually came out of their own free will! Or maybe you've been forced to be here?" He says menacingly with a radio filter in his voice.
"Stop trying to scare our guest, Alastor." The silver haired woman says.
Alastor laughs. "I'm just asking a question, dear! No need to be hostile." The Radio Demon. Everyone knows this guy is bad news. Especially with the way he's leering at me.
"So what do you think?" As soon as Charlie finishes, one of the wooden beams falls in the middle of the lobby. She looks at it, then at me with a worrying smile.
"One question. Are you sure this will help me ascend to Heaven?" I ask.
"Of course! That's the purpose of our hotel!" She answers gleefully. It's good that the princess is a nice person. A contrast to the other denizens she rules over.
"All right. I'll give it a try." Charlie is shaking with excitement that I think she might explode.
"OOOOH~! What a wonderful day~! I know you will enjoy your stay~!" Why is she singing? She grabs my arms and we start dancing!
"There she goes again." The pornstar groans. She spins me around so much, I'm getting dizzy. My scales turn green to reflect my sickness.
The silver woman puts her hand on Charlie's shoulder. "Honey, I know you want to sing, but let's fill out the paperwork first." Charlie frowns but nods.
We go to their office in the back. It's a lot cleaner and organized than the lobby. There's a big portrait of her family. It's the short king Lucifer and the tall queen Lilith. She definitely takes after her father. Charlie and the silver woman sit on the desk, I sit across them. "I don't think I've introduced her. This is my partner and staff member Vaggie." Vaggie waves with a neutral expression. Charlie pulls out papers. "Just fill out these documents to make it official!" She slides it towards me and I write my info down.

Once I finish, I give it back to Charlie while she reads it. "Hm? You don't know your sins?"
I shake my head. "That's what I've been trying to figure out since I got here."
"There has to be something. Everyone commits one or two." Vaggie says.
"I wasn't exactly the best person when I was younger, but I changed thanks to the help of my mom and brother. I guess the divine do not care for human redemption."
"Not like it matters!" Charlie exclaims. "Regardless of your sins, we're here to make sure you will ascend!" She really knows how to perk someone up. "While I get everything ready, Vaggie will escort you to your room."
Vaggie nods and we head out. We climb to the fourth floor and stop in front of Room 404. "This will be your room. There are spare clothes inside if you need."
"I never thought I would ever say this, but thank you." I say.
"Don't mention it. If you need any room service, just give Nifty a call." She says before going back down. A cold demeanor but not unwarranted considering she might think I might be taking advantage of their services.
I step inside my new room. A bed, drawer, T.V., and the stench of sex. A typical one star environment. Hopefully no hidden cams, but it's not like there would be anything interesting to observe. I fall onto the bed and stare at the ceiling. My mind should be racing, but it's blank. I guess nothing exciting happened for me to introspect. Other than Charlie's musical number. Now my mind is being consumed by her. I can't help it. She has been the only one that has shown genuine care. Plus, she's attractive. I hate it.
I take a hot shower, but it only lasts five seconds before turning cold. At least it's clean water. To be honest, it makes me feel at home. It's one of those things that takes you back to simpler times. Back when I was with my family. My only hope is that they have a place in Heaven. Enough reminiscing, I have to get dressed. I dry myself and head towards the cabinet. Suddenly, the front door opens with the little cyclop. She is carrying white clothes, but not before taking a peek at my manhood, which I immediately use my hands to cover myself.
She giggles. "You're all pink!" Rrrgh! Talk about wearing your heart on your scales! She steps inside to set the clothes on my bed and waves rapidly before closing the door as she leaves. I quickly lock it. Don't want any more surprises. I put on the clothes and check myself in a mirror. The whiteness does complement my colorful scales. It also makes me look like a patient. Exhaustion finally takes its toll as I lay on the bed. Maybe tomorrow won't be so bad. My eyelids become heavier with the soft comfort of the fabric.
