The cops arrived almost immediately afterwards. Everything was a blur, time slowing down as Jean sat at a table with Eren and Mikasa, answering the occasional question from the cops.

"Whatever you do, do NOT mention the Dream World," Mikasa had told him in a rush just before law enforcement entered the Jaeger residence. "I'll explain everything later, I promise."

Confused, Jean obeyed her wish, watching as Eren clenched his fists underneath the table in an attempt to reign it in. Jean was still processing the fact that Carla's body was torn in half in his dream and the blood stained sheets that held no body when he had woken up. The sound of Eren's yell from earlier still rang in his ears.

"And where exactly is your father at this time?"

"On a business trip. He's a travelling doctor, probably with one of his patients right now." Eren answered through gritted teeth. "His business card is on the fridge."

"And what might be your business here?"

Jean barely recognized the question being directed towards him. He shook his head in an attempt to snap out of his daze. "I was in a motorcycle accident a few days ago. I was going to head back home later on today after I picked up my motorcycle from the repair shop." He answered carefully. It wasn't a lie, he had been planning on contacting his mom in the morning to let her know that he would be coming home.

"Very well then." The officer answered, shutting her notepad closed. "We'll file an incident report down at the sherrif's office and put out a missing person's report for your mother. Without her body, we can't confirm anything, but we'll know within the next few weeks whether the blood samples we took are a match or not."

"In the meantime, we'll contact Grisha Jaeger. Once his whereabouts are confirmed, you'll be free to go home," She finished, directing the last part towards officer walked towards the fridge, taking Grisha's business card with her before excusing herself outside while she contacted him. Jean took a moment to study Mikasa and Eren, noting the blank stare in Mikasa's eyes and the angry tears from Eren's.

Jean could feel exhaustion overwhelming his body, but his mind was too alert to feel anything. Yet, he couldn't seem to be bothered to question the missing body of Carla just yet or why Mikasa had told him not to mention the Dream World to the officer. He trusted that Mikasa would explain it soon enough, though he was honestly tired of feeling left out in the dark when it came to his own memories. Despite his previous realization of the whole 'dreams are reality', there were still other memories and feelings that remained blurry.

"Okay, your father should be on his way home soon," The officer spoke to Eren as she reentered thw room.

"Thanks, I'm not sure I would've been able to tell him myself." He muttered, wiping at his face.

.

It didn't take long for Grisha to arrive. His eyes were bloodshot behind his glasses, but no tears were in sight. Jean didn't know what to say in the moment other than offering his be told, he felt like he should give them their privacy and go home, but he still needed a ride to the repair shop to do that.

"I feel like I'm intruding, I should go," He mumbled after a while, deciding he could walk or maybe call his mom. The drive would probably be a lot, but he felt like she would understand.

Mikasa shook her head. "Stay a little longer. Besides, I already arranged for someone to take you to get your motorcycle."

"But-"

"You'll get answers too," Eren answered quickly, shutting Jean up. Jean exhaled, looking down into his lap. "Fine," He responded after a while. "Just...reach out if you guys need anything, I don't expect anything right now, you have a lot on your plate as is." He looked at the two of them, a sincere look in his eyes.

Mikasa and Eren glanced at each other before nodding. "We'll try to update you as soon as we know more." Mikasa said, her eyed flitting down briefly. "Your ride is outside."The trio stood up, shuffling towards the front door just as a knock was heard. Behind the door stood a person Jean wasn't expecting to see so soon.

"I'm so sorry," Jean could barely hear Sasha say as she immediately threw her arms around Eren and Mikasa, squeezing them tightly.

"It's fine, there's nothing you could have done about it." Mikasa spoke before leaning in and whispering something into the brunnette's hair, her eyes briefly flitting up and making contact with Jean's.

Sasha's head bobbed slightly as she pulled away, squeezing their shoulders softly. "Well, I'll leave you guys be, but just know you guys are always welcome to come over if you need anything."

Sasha didn't turn to Jean until Eren and Mikasa closed the door behind them. "Hi," She spoke quietly. "Bet you weren't expecting to see me so soon, huh?"

"Not entirely."

She motioned her head towards the pickup truck parked at the end of the driveway. "Come on, I'll try to explain as best as I can."

.

"So you mean to tell me that not everyone can be affected by this Dream World?"

Jean and Sasha found themselves sitting in a booth tucked into the corner of Shiganshina's diner. It was still too early in the morning for the repair shop to be open, so they decided on breakfast as Sasha had apparently started driving towards the Jaeger residence almost immediately upon waking up.

"Well, not exactly. You know how some people just die in their sleep with no other cause of death? The way Marco puts it, every person has a place in the Dream World, but only few people can actually participate and remember it." Sasha says, pouring way too much sugar into her coffee. "Those of us who can participate tend to die more gruesome deaths because of the constant war against the titans."

"Is that why Mrs. Jaeger's body was missing in the bed this morning?" Jean questioned, poking his fork at the eggs on his plate.

The girl shrugged. "Honestly, I'm just as clueless about that as you are. Normally, deaths that happen in the Dream World don't cause a body to just go missing like that. Her body should have at least appeared just as it did when we first found it."

Jean frowned at this. If Sasha was saying she didn't know about the disappearing body, then he wasn't exactly sure what to think.

Swallowing another bite of eggs, he mulled over his other questions. "When we met last night, it seemed like you knew exactly what to do when it came to the whole thing with finding me a weapon...that wasn't the first time you've done that for me, is it?"

Sasha's eyes widened slightly, looking to the side. "No.""So we knew each other before I had my accident?"

"Yeah."

"Then how come you couldn't tell me anything?"

Sasha sighed, her fingers tapping at the side of the coffee mug cradled in her hands. "It's...complicated. Armin says that telling you about everything prematurely could negatively impact your well being as well as your physical body, something about butterfly effects too?..." She trailed off, mumbling something to herself about Marco and Armin being better at explaining things better than she is.

Despite still having questions, Jean decided to back off from asking anything else. A fuzzy memory surfaced in his mind of the brunette badly explaining something to him and him calling her an idiot, which gave him the impression that she was really trying her best to give him answers. He decided he would start also dedicating part of his dream entries to memories that he had previously lost, making a mental note to update his entry later on.

Rubbing his temples, Jean tried to switch up his interrogation. "Is there anything that you are able to tell me? I'm sure there's gotta be things that are safe to talk about."

Sasha seemed to perk up at this, taking a bite of toast and washing it down with some coffee as she thought. "Well, while everyone you met last night are all friends, you're especially close friends with Connie, Marco, and myself, though you and Marco are closer as he's your childhood best friend. We even have a group chat together, but we had to kick you from it after the accident. Wait, lemme add you back in real quick," Sasha whipped her phone out, typing at her screen. "There you go!"

Jean felt a buzz coming from his phone, noticing the new notification on his screen from a chat titled Fearsome Foursome:

Sash: Added Jean back lol

"Oh! That actually reminds me, my high school is actually playing against Eren's for spring training on Friday, did you wanna come? A bunch of us are gonna be there."

Jean thought about it for a bit. While his memories of the friend group were fuzzy, he felt himself wanting to regain those memories he lost back. Part of him hoped that if he went, maybe it would trigger some of those memories until he remembered something.

"Sure, why not."

I honestly wasn't sure where I was going with this chapter, so I kinda just figured it out as I wrote. I do have somewhat of a plan for what next chapter will be about, so I'm hoping it won't take me too long to update. That being said, next chapter will hopefully answer some questions that Jean still has, so stay tuned!
