Salaarg:
'Ah, Vader' crowed the man in black. He sat on a large throne, in the centre of a black room, located atop a Super-Star Destroyer. Opposite the man, was Lord Vader, kneeling before the other man. Kara looked down and around her. Everything was tinted blue, as though a filter had been put over Kara's eyes and the sounds were warped. Kara was experiencing another Force-Vision. Kara looked up at the scene in front of her. There was only one person that Vader would kneel to. Kara was witnessing, the Emperor himself.
'My Lord' responded Vader.
'Rise Vader. I have a task for you' called the Emperor, standing from his throne. He threw back his cowl to reveal a face nothing like the one Kara had seen in pictures across the galaxy. His face twisted and wrinkled, a light grey. Lord Vader stood up, standing far taller than the Emperor, but somehow the small pallid figure over towered the general with confidence. 'I am sending you to Bellassa. The second wave of Inquisitors that were discovered on Aeos Prime are ready to be enacted into the Inquisitorial program. They will join the Inquisitors. I have already informed the Grand Inquisitor.'
Kara winced as she watched the duo, feeling as though the word Inquisitor was being grossly overused. Vader didn't want to interrupt the Emperor, remaining silent save the deep breath through his mask's filter.
'The six of them will join the Imperial ranks. I want you to personally knight them.' Vader nodded, not looking directly at the Emperor.
'However, there is another matter I have had brought to my attention. The Phantom Order. The Jedi are gone now, and there is less of a need for their service, I want them removed.' Kara gasped, shocked by the Emperor. What he was saying, was confirming everything Via had told her.
'Shall I execute them?' asked Vader grimly and Kara was outraged that he would so simply decide to remove the Phantom Order, her team, her friends.
'They have been nothing but a nuisance since they discovered the Jedi on Aeos, having to keep them busy while we let the Inquisitors do their work. However, I do not want you to remove them. I want the new Inquisitors to kill them.' Kara gasped, horrified. Her crew would be killed by the very Jedi they had captured so long ago. 'I do like a cruel touch of irony. We'll send the Order to Bellassa' sneered the Emperor. Rage swelled through Kara and she stepped forward in hatred. The Emperor was evil, her work had been meaningless and her crew was in danger. Anger swelled through her fingers, rage burning through her. Vader suddenly turned to look directly at her, as though he could see her. Kara took a step back, worried that somehow, she'd been spotted. She had been almost sure she couldn't be seen, and if she could, why hadn't they seen her yet.
'Do you feel it, master?' asked Vader.
'Of course,' responded the Emperor, returning to his throne. 'I sensed her the moment she came in contact with the force' added the Emperor, letting out a low, guttural laugh.
'Where is she?' asked Vader.
'She's in Wild Space. On a planet called Salaarg' responded the Emperor. 'We cannot know what she has discovered, or who she's with but she'll lead us straight to whichever Jedi found her.'
Kara jerked upright. 'The Empire knows we're here' she exclaimed. KT, sitting next to her patiently let out a little chirp of disturbance, before nestling back onto her lap, ignoring her outbreak.
'What?' said Via, scrambling away from Kara. She had been sitting next to her while she slept. 'How do you know?'
'I felt it through a Force vision' responded Kara, rubbing the sleep from her eyes.
'You connected with the Force? How could you –'
'It's only happened once before. After my crash onto Salaarg when you brought me back to your home and now, while I was sleeping.'
'Sparks, Kara! You should have told me' responded Via. 'How is that possible?'
'Whenever I'm near you, it seems to trigger it' responded Kara. 'I see things that are important to me.'
'Memories?'
'No, things that are going on around the galaxy. I don't know if they're true, but I think they are. Everything is warped and I can feel energy all around me' explained Kara, not sure if it made any sense.
'What did you see? How can the Empire know we're here? Surely the Kobane wouldn't inform them.'
'I don't know. Somehow, they were able to sense me. Vader and the Emperor. They could feel me when I saw them' said Kara, already exasperated at Via's onslaught of questions.
'You saw the Emperor and Vader?' inquired Via, incredulous. 'What did they say?'
'The Inquisitors on Bellassa are being initiated soon' Kara responded. 'Your brother as well. The Phantom Order are being sent there, where the Inquisitors are going to execute them.' Via opened her eyes wide.
'We need to get to Bellassa now and rescue my brother' said Via. 'If we wait here, the Empire will find us. How could they sense you?'
'I don't know. When they talked about my team I became angry, and I think they could feel it. They could sense it, through the force' responded Kara. 'If we go to Bellassa, you can rescue your brother, but I will rescue my team.'
'They would have sensed an outsider to the force. Somehow, you're using my force capability and now they know it. They've tracked you here' said Via, going through her thought process out loud. 'We need to move quickly. They'll be here soon. At best, we have maybe half a moon-cycle before they arrive.'
'We need to get that engine fixed' said Kara, standing up. 'Are the Kobane gone.'
'Kara, the engine is fixed and the Kobane are long gone. You were out for almost a full moon-cycle' explained Via. Kara looked at her in shock, surprised by the news. Despite being asleep for so long, she didn't feel well rested.
'What if the vision I saw was from earlier? What if the Empire's already here?' asked Kara, worried. Now that the Phantom Order were going to be executed, Kara didn't doubt what they'd do to her if she was found with a Jedi. She certainly didn't want to return to the Empire, after discovering the truth about the Empire and its leaders.
'I doubt it, or else they wouldn't have been able to sense your presence' returned Via, moving towards the engine. 'Come on, let's get this bird in the sky.' Kara nodded, following Via into the cockpit. As far as Kara knew, Via had removed the two bauble shaped turrets on the side of the vehicle to create her moisture well, and had sealed the doors shut, so that the entry hatch at the back of the ship was the only way to get in and out. The only rooms were the engine panel where Via had been working, the hold, a medical wing and the main cockpit. Kara climbed a few shorts steps into the cockpit, where she sat down on the only seat next to Via.
'Hope this works,' commented Via as she activated the power. Kara took a deep breath, seeing the steam come out of her mouth. It was cold in the ship, without having used the power. Lights flickered on overhead as Via held a switch down on the panel. The entire ship shuddered into life. 'Don't bail on me now Vigilance' muttered Via, poking her tongue out to her right as she pulled up on the throttle. There was no movement. They were still.
'Maybe sand has clogged the thrusters?' suggested Kara, knowing what it would mean if it did. KT, now sitting on the control panel let out a little squeak, as if she didn't believe Kara.
'Hang on, I always had a bit of trouble starting her, just got to have the knack' responded Via, this time poking her tongue out to the left. She flicked the power switch back and forth again a few times before pulling back on the throttle. This time, there was movement. They lurched upwards, sand pushing aside as they exploded out of the dunes. The hill gave way, crumbling aside as the Vigilance rose from its dusty tomb. Sand fell away, revealing a grimy, dusty windscreen in front of them. They rose into the air, the familiar hum of a spacecraft shaking Kara's whole body. 'Heck yeah.' The Vigilance rose up further, sand falling away to reveal the grey and brown remains of the dust coated ship. The colour had faded from its wings and gave it a rustic, worn out look.
'It's time to fly' said Kara as Via pushed down on the throttle, hurtling them towards Venos.
'We're going to need a pilot' said Via, skimming over the dunes, clipping the tops of them as she tried to stay clear of any Kobane craft in the sky. 'I'll go to the cantina and look for a pilot while you get your armour patched up.'
'What do you mean?' asked Kara, surprised. She had been about to suggest Wes but the thought was completely swept from her mind.
'I found that armour that you took from the bunker. We'll land as close to Venos as we can and I want you to take it to Bronto and have him fix it up. We don't have any scrap tokens, but see if you can convince him' explained Via. 'I'll meet you back at the transport.'
'Sounds like a plan' responded Kara. At that moment, something caught her attention in the distance. A small speck on the horizon.
'Via, straight ahead.'
'I see it. I'm going to land her behind some dunes and hopefully whoever it is won't see us' responded Via, slowing the Vigilance and turning it towards the ground in search of cover. She touched the ship down in the shadow of a steep sand dune where they remained hiding. They both knew that if the Kobane spotted them, they wouldn't be able to get to Venos. Kara scrambled out of the hatch and up the dune. She rested at the top, pulling out Via's macrobinoculars to zoom in on the ship in the distance.
It was a Fire Spray, coloured red and green. A bounty hunter. The Kobane were sending more of them to scour the desert. Via scrambled out of the ship behind Kara. She was confident that they were well hidden from anything flying towards them. Once they had passed the dune, they would have to look directly back to catch a glimpse of the ship. Kara handed Via the macrobinoculars and Via lay on the hill top, watching the ship.
'I know that ship and it's trouble' said Via, scrambling back down the hill.
'How? Who's in it?' asked Kara, amazed once more by Via's uncanny knowledge of the world around her.
'He helped launch an attack on Coruscant during the Clone Wars. Master Arata was one of the Jedi who went after him, after he escaped the Republican custody. His father allied himself with the Separatists and he's now a feared bounty hunter throughout wild space despite his youth. His name is Boba Fett.'
'Am I supposed to know who that is?' asked Kara, unimpressed. Despite this, it seemed that KT had at some point heard of the bounty hunter. Still sitting on Kara's shoulder, she let out a quiet trill, reminding Kara she was still there.
'I suggest you learn' Via responded, scrambling back towards the Vigilance. 'We're going to need to cool the engine quickly or else he'll spot us on his thermal reading.' Kara followed Via into the ship, helping cover the engine and charge the power dampeners. Just as they finished hiding the ships thermal signature, the Fire Spray flew overhead.
'Slave I' stated Via as the bounty hunter disappeared over the dunes.
Only a few minutes later, Via had flown them across the sands and they were within a short walk of Venos. They hid the Vigilance at the base of the mountain, hidden from onlookers and made their way into Venos. As they walked, Kara tried to process everything she had learnt over the last week, but in the end, she gave up, thinking about the what lay ahead. 'Saving the Phantom Order.'
