"She has the most adorable little toesie-woesies." Muriel gleamed. Juliette frowned and let out a loud wail. "Oh, I'm sorry. I wasn't…I was… you. I'm an angel. I don't…ah."
Crowley removed Juliette from Muriel's arms before the poor angel started going into maximum overload. He cradled her in his arms and day by day, he felt his theory to be correct, Juliette's demon side was a smidge more powerful than her angelic one. The child would settle down whenever Crowley picked her up, not that she would not when Aziraphale did so, but it would take her minutes when the angel tried his best to soothe her. With Crowley it was almost instant as whenever Beelzebub babysat for them.
Eden and Anthony were not as fussy as newborns and were the epitome of stereotypical angels. "Muriel, erm, why don't you take Eden and Anthony across the street. I'm sure Nina can whip them up some hot chocolate."
"Hot chocolate!" Eden raised her arms and rushed to the door.
Muriel nodded and reached down for Anthony.
"No miracles, Eden." Crowley spoke sternly.
After the angel and the little nephalems were out of the shop, Crowley let out a long breath, one that he had been holding for quite some time and why wouldn't he? He was told God was not heard from for months, some things had been changing up in heaven, which meant hell had been as well, and most importantly, it sounded as if the Metatron had begun to run the show up above. Crowley just knew Aziraphale had the same thought process and with one thought in mind, "Cassi?" They asked in unison.
"You two know I have never been privy to that information. Believe me, I have asked and tried to poke around for any trace of hers. I've even had Elliot use some of those temptation skills of his with no luck."
The demon growled at the mention of that name. Aziraphale patted Crowley's arm knowing full well of what was going on in that mind of his. "How is he?"
Gabriel quietly clapped his hand. "He is coming along. He is capable of feeling empathy for others and has taken a liking to working with the sick and feeble."
Aziraphale's eyes crinkled as he smiled wide. "That is wonderful news. I'm sure he will be a great angel soon."
"Half angel." Crowley mumbled. "Balancing out the poor bugger is a waste of time if you ask me."
"Right, so," Gabriel continued, ignoring the demon's sudden grumpy mood, "you mentioned Cassi contacted you?"
Aziraphale placed his hand on his heart. "Yes, she did."
"Yeeeea, um, that is not supposed to happen."
The parents exchanged looks. "How do you mean?"
"The deal was, Cassi is supposed to watch over humanity, earth, the universe, and all that; however, she, in no way, can communicate with you two. Not that she is not allowed, it's more so, it's impossible." The parents' baffling expressions allowed the supreme archangel to continue. "Cassi is everywhere at the moment. She has no human corporation, no set place, she's like, like-"
"Like God?" Aziraphale spoke. "Everywhere but not necessarily present. More like a feeling and -"
"A thought." Crowley continued.
"Exactly and God made that possible. If Cassi was able to communicate that means, she manifested herself somewhere."
Crowley shook his head at the utter nonsense. "Ha-hang on. We can do that as well without manifesting, hell, even demons communicate through the radio, Satan even."
"Again, the demons are somewhere as is Satan. They have a corporation but we are staying from the topic at hand, God missing means the Metatron is in charge."
Crowley huffed and carefully sat on the sofa with Juliette in his arms. "I still don't understand what all this had to do withus. Aziraphale and I are long retired, and we intend to stay that way."
Aziraphale followed his husband and patted his thigh as he sat next to him. "I'd have to agree with Crowley." He opened his arms for Crowley to hand Juliette over, only for him to give her back when the child formed a frown and began to squirm. "And we have the children to think about. We can't just follow heaven's orders, even if we wanted to."
"Which we don't, just to get it through your thick head."
"Listen, all we-"
"We?" Crowley grunted knowing Beelzebub was in on this ridiculous idea.
"-want you guys to investigate. Do what you two do best. Meddle around and find out if anyone from heaven or hell knows what is going on."
The demon scoffed. "What makes you think we can get answers you and Beelzebub have not asked."
Gabriel rocked himself on his heels. "Because you guys scare the shit out of heaven and hell."
Crowley rubbed his eye. "Again?" He yawned and walked over to his husband who looked frustrated and on the verge of tears. "What's wrong, lovey?" The demon took her into his arms and began to rock the crying child.
Aziraphale wiped his eyes and sniffed. "She does not like me. She was crying and I came to check on her. Seems I made it worse." He let out a shaky breath.
Crowley stammered and gestured the angel towards him. "She does." Aziraphale rested his head on his shoulder while Crowley drew circles on his back. "She just…she just-just…she loves youtoo muchit's overwhelming for her little body. Doesn't know where to put all that love."
Juliette had stopped crying but fussed in Crowley's arms, her small frame wiggling every which way until her star-like eyes looked straight above, past her father. The nephalem smiled and reached for something above her. Aziraphale and Crowley followed her gaze to nothing but the shop's ceiling. Juliette cooed and settled down. "Cassi?" Aziraphale called out quietly.
Both parents held their breaths, but nothing came of it. They did not feel their eldest daughter's presence, nor did they get a sign and that was a cause for alarm. Yes, Cassi had made a deal with God but that was alright (not really) because it was God and in some form, she wouldn't dare back out of a deal. However, as she was missing it could only mean the Metatron was in charge and that was never a good thing. He hated hell, demons, and the parents knew, though he presented himself as an unbiased party, he detested nephalems, Cassi included. Nephalems were a result of peace between demons and angels and heaven was not about to have that. Deal or no deal.
Aziraphale cradled Juliette in his arms as he fed her her first bottle of the day. Sure, ethereal beings did not need to eat but when you are the child of Aziraphale, aka angel of the Eastern gate, aka supreme archangel, aka lover of all things food, you tend to get a bit peckish. The parents were at a loss when Eden came into the picture and demanded food and so, knowing human milk was out of the question for them, they opted for *goat's milk, which seemed to alleviate the nephalem's appetite. "Ah, I see you don't mind me when it's convenient, hm?" The angel smiled warmly while Juliette tugged on his finger. "You love daddy more?" He scrunched his nose, placed her slightly over his shoulder and gently began to pat her small back. "That's alright, it's hard not to love daddy."
"Daddy," Eden began with a mouth full of eggs, "are we going back home today?"
"Not today, lovey, no. Papa and I will have a poke around in the city."
She gave a wide smile. "Can we come?"
Aziraphale wrinkled his nose at his daughter. "Not this time I'm afraid, but Muriel agreed to watch you for the afternoon. Does that not sound like fun, sweetheart, hmm?"
Eden gave a hard nod.
"Right," Crowley stood and rubbed his hands together, picking up Anthony and cleaning his jam-filled face. "No flying, please baba. Be good for Muriel and I promise I'll make you banana pudding when papa and I come back."
"Choco?"
Crowley smiled at his son. "Chocolate banana pudding!" He pretended to eat his small neck. "You're going to be full of chocolate. Nom-nom-nom! Will pair great with biscuits!"
Anthony giggled and thrashed his body. "No daddy! I no food!"
"Dearest, please put him down. He just had breakfast."
Crowley kissed Anthony's head. "Your papa is not going to be around all the time to save you." He winked and set him down. "Muriel?" He called to see the angel setting up some colorful blocks. They had read a children's book through the night from beginning to end. "Eden is simple, Anthony is…" he turned around to witness his son yanking on Eden's hair, Aziraphale calling him naughty and giving him a gentle scolding, "you need patience with him. He's going through a phase."
Muriel gave a toothy grin and took out their notebook. "Terrible twos? I read all about it." They scribbled.
Crowley sucked onto his lip and cocked his head to the side. He had no idea what they were on about but if the humans had already a word for how much Anthony had been behaving lately, then it was not his place to correct them. Humans, after all, had been having babies way longer than he had been. "Juliette, erm" he turned back once more and noticed the child start to fuss in his husband's arms, "um… I don't think you'll have a pr-problem. Angel?"
Aziraphale walked over to his husband and gently placed Juliette in Muriel's arms. Unfortunately, the baby wailed as soon as Muriel carried her, kicking and her desperate sobs were definitely heard by those out on the street. "Ngk, that's a problem." Crowley raised his brow and took his baby back. "Angel?"
Notes:
*please do not feed a baby goat's milk, it is bad for them, as is water. However, water is good for ducks. Ducks love water and frozen peas.
