Ch1
Magnus lay asleep when he suddenly felt a presence enter in his mind. Hera appeared dressed in a regal dress as a glowing aura enveloped her. "L-Lady Hera," he muttered.
Hera nodded as she looked him over. "Son of the north you have proven your worth but for now you must leave the camp."
He stared at the goddesses taken aback by what she said. "What do you mean?"
Hera looked at him calmly. "There is a war coming and you must be prepared and my champion will be coming, for now you both must be separated."
He didn't know how to respond as he looked at the goddess. "Wh-Where will I go?"
Hera smiled at him. "You must go and train and prepare for soon the camp will face a strong threat. Only then can you return to the camp."
"What kind of threat?"
Hera's eyes lit up. "We must all be united. Receive your quest and go to your father's house. In the mean time do not worry I will take Percy Jackson for only a short while."
"Wait what?"
Hera only smiled as the dream ended and he woke up. "Percy!" he called out to his friend but saw the bed on the other side of the Poseidon Cabin empty. Oh gods. He swore as he jumped out of bed and turned on the lights. "Percy!" The Poseidon Cabin was empty and Percy was gone.
He immediately ran out of the cabin and towards the Big House where he pounded on the door before Chiron answered. "Magnus what's wrong?"
"Percy," he said out of breath. "Percy is missing."
The centaur's face paled. "What happened."
After he told the centaur of what had happened he immediately woke everyone up and a search for Percy began.
Annabeth immediately burst into the Big House tears falling down her face. "Magnus what do you mean Percy is gone?"
Hs sighed and recounted what had happened in his dream. When he was done Annabeth broke down. "How could they!"
Chiron patted her shoulder. "We don't know what Hera's plans are Annabeth." The centaur then turned to him. "Magnus she also mentioned you had to leave camp?"
He shifted in her seat. "Y-Yeah." A pit formed in his stomach, the camp had been his home for a long time, and he couldn't imagine leaving it.
Annabeth sobbed loudly. "It's fair! This camp is also Magnus' home. He's a demigod, he should be here."
Chiron sighed and looked to the ground. "Well he isn't technically a Greek demigod."
Yeah there's that. It was still a silent secret that he was a child of a Norse god who still practiced and trained with his own people during his personal time.
Rachel then stumbled in. "Magnus!"
They all stood up as green smoke came out of her mouth. "Magnus Chase come forward," the oracle said through Rachel.
He stepped forward his heart racing in his chest. "What is it?" Frankly he didn't know what to say, should he ask for where Percy was or what he needed to do to protect the camp."
Green smoke filled the room as Rachel spoke through the oracle.
"Son of the North shall break from the hold,
And return with the sun when the days grow bold.
To his father's house and the Life-given home,
Shall he seek refuge, yet never roam.
Guard well the land from shadow and blight;
For forces combined shall darken the light,
And press the Earth in unyielding night."
The smoke faded and Rachel returned to normal. "What that was something," He slowly ran his hands through his hair. That could mean everything.
Annabeth stared at the ground. "You're actually leaving."
"Don't worry I'll come back," he said firmly. "I'll get help from my father and make sure no one harms the camp ok?"
Annabeth frowned. "House of Life?"
The air in the room tensed as Chiron's face turned pale. He looked at the centaur, he never did tell him about Sadie Kane and her brother or how they both seemed to know about something he didn't.
"I'll figure it out," he said firmly. "I guess I should pack then?" He stood up and stretched his arms.
Annabeth then hugged him and broke down. "Be safe ok. If you need me just give me an Iris message."
He hugged her back. "I will."
It was a somber atmosphere at camp and he didn't have time to say goodbye to everyone. He packed some of his things and then headed towards where Argus and Chiron were waiting for him. "Well I'm ready," he said calmly.
Chiron nodded. "Argus will drop you off at your apartment." The Centaur looked around cautiously. "Be careful Magnus, this is a very delicate matter you are dealing with."
The urgency and dread in the centaur's voice sent a shiver down his spine. "I know," he said softly. He knew it was taboo to not mix worlds and now it looks like he'd be one step closer to hell. Lucky me.
"Wait!" Turning around he saw Annabeth her eyes wet.
"Anna-"
He was cut off by her hugging him. "Promise me you'll be safe and come back ok?" She said her voice a half sob.
He hugged tightly. "I will. I'll do my part to defend the camp."
Annabeth pulled away and nodded. "And if you see Percy-"
"Don't worry I'll make sure to bring him back safe and sound," he said with a smile on his face.
He got into the van and soon it drove off. His heart grew heavy as he watched the camp drive go past him and eventually drove into the city. Don't worry Percy I'll take care of the camp. He tried not to think of his friend but his heart was still heavy thinking about it.
As soon as his car arrived at his apartment he thanked Argus and got out. His apartment was empty as he closed the door behind him and went to his room. With a deep sigh he threw his bag to the side and fell onto his bed.
He didn't know how long he slept but eventually he felt a familiar presence. "Come on get up Magnus."
His eyes shot up as he sat and saw his father Frey standing in his room. "Dad!"
Frey smiled. "Come me and your aunt have a lot of things to discuss."
"Uh ok." His mind was still tired so he quickly washed his face in the bathroom before heading towards the living room.
His Aunt Freya sat in a chair in wearing a fancy dress while his father sat next to her. "Hello Magnus dear we have a lot to discuss," Freya said with a wide grin that made him feel flustered.
He awkwardly sat down. "I got a quest. Percy's gone and the camp-"
His father cut him off. "We are aware of what Hera is doing."
"What? Then where is Percy?"
"Hera is playing a risky gamble," Freya said. "She needs Percy Jackson and her own champion to unite the two camps?"
He stared at his aunt in confusion. "What do you mean by two camps?"
His father's gaze flickered. "What we are about to tell you should not be spoken of lightly Magnus. As civilizations expand their gods adapt with it and Olympus was no different."
"The flame of western civilization went from Greece to Rome and the Olympians changed with it," Freya said. "The gods adapted and their personalities changed to reflect Roman might. They also had children in this form."
He stared at his father and aunt not knowing what to say. "So you are saying that there are more demigods but their parents are their Roman forms?" It was weird to wrap his head around but he didn't know how these things with gods worked.
His father nodded his gaze turning stern. "There is another camp but we tend to avoid it. Camp Jupiter as it is called has no love for Asgard or its children."
A chill crept into the room making the hairs on his neck stand up. "Oh. So I take it that's why I'm being told to leave camp?"
"Hera or Juno has her own champion," Freya said with a cold smile. "She intends to unite the two camps to take on this upcoming threat. But our children have a history of not liking Rome."
Frey nodded. "Yeah they used to hire our children back in the day and turn them against us," there was a bit of anger and resentment in his voice. "One of them was a fellow named Arminius, like you assimilated into the Greco-Roman world but in the end he chose to help his people."
"An action that led to Rome's biggest defeat," Freya said with a cold smile. "What a charming fellow."
"Since then the Romans have never loved our children. They have not forgiven us for what Arminius did," Frey said. "We helped the Greeks and defended them often but the Romans, they hate our guts." The room became colder as anger flared in his father's eyes. "They have long desired to take Asgard down."
He shifted in his seat as he tried to process all of the information that was being told to him. "So what happens now?"
A scroll appeared in his aunt's hand. "You see Hera is no fool, she'll preserve her family at any cost and the Romans have long held numerical history. So she has requested our help to aid the Greek camp in case things go south."
His eyes widened. "Really?"
Frey smiled. "Yup. We'll defend the camp against Gaea and the Romans but she made it clear she'd like she'd rather the Romans not get hurt too much."
Freya nodded. "The all father also sees this as an opportunity to end this pesky feud between us and the Romans."
"Great! So what do I need to do?" He asked.
His father laughed. "Calm down. First you must be trained and we will need to gather allies."
"Allies?"
"Yes I believe that Kane girl will be of great help," Freya said with a smile.
"You mean Sadie? What does she and her family have to do with this?" For a moment he thought they might've been demigods but something wasn't right. He highly doubted they were any kind of demigods.
His father chuckled. "Oh that family has their own problems. The Romans made a lot of enemies in their conquests. Many pantheons don't like them."
"We'll be defending the Greeks with a bit of help. But you must also be trained," Freya said. "To become stronger to defend your friends."
He looked down at the ground and nodded. "I'll do it." Determination swelled up inside of him, he wasn't going to let anyone hurt the camp.
Percy wherever you are be safe. I'll get stronger and do my part for whatever is coming. The camp was his home and he will do his part to defend it.
"Get your personal matters settled," Frey said. "We'll pick you up in a few days."
With that his father and aunt disappeared leaving him alone in his apartment. Resting in his chair he ran his hand through his hair. "Well so much for resting after the last war."
Standing up he stretched his body before grabbing his coat and leaving. He needed to process all of the stuff he was told. Roman demigods and the conflicts of the pantheons. It was enough to make anyone's head spin.
As he walked down the streets of New York he debated his next course of action. I'd have to call Uncle Frederick and tell Annabeth what I can.
It was then that he felt the hairs on his neck stand up. "Hey Magnus!"
Turning around he saw Sadie Kane gripping her curved staff. Something about her made him cautious though he knew she wouldn't harm. "Hey," he said. "It's been a while."
"Unfortunately yes," she said her eyes gleaming with interest. "I believe we need to have a little chat out a few things."
He nodded. "I think that would be good. You good for coffee?"
Sadie smiled. "Of course darling come on."
Carter Kane paced his study as he looked over at the parchment on the table. In front of him his Uncle Amos Kane and his girlfriend Zia stood in front of him their faces grim. "Zia what did Ra say to you?"
Zia looked to the parchment her face melancholy. "He gave me this parchment and said to abide by it."
His gaze drifted to the parchment where Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs were next to words in Ancient Greek and Norse. Glancing over the Egyptian parts his heart raced as he read them. "In order to preserve the Greek side we have agreed to offer our support."
The air in the room became tense as if the very fabric of duat would tear open. "Uncle what does this mean?" He asked.
His uncle frowned his gaze betraying fear. "Pantheons have helped each other in the past, but it is a very dangerous task. To think the gods would agree to this." Uncle Amos paused. "Sadie is meeting with that boy right?"
He nodded. "She is meeting with him now." The morning had been hectic with Zia's notice and he decided to send Sadie to meet with her friend Magnus. Something about him was off, he wasn't a magician and Uncle Amos made it clear he didn't want Sadie to be too close to him for whatever reason.
Uncle Amos turned around. "Carter this will be your first big test as Pharaoh. It will be through your decisions that we will get through this coming crisis."
His heart raced in his chest as he watched his uncle leave. "What kind of crisis is it?"
Uncle Amos paused. "A crisis of pantheons."
