Tōshirō
As Tōshirō lay in Karin's bed, he wondered why he had taken this mission. He wondered if it was even real. After all, it was Rangiku who gave it to him, and she had been holding a bottle of sake while she said it.
Unable to sleep, he got up and walked to Karin's window, surprised to find Karin already standing there.
"Couldn't sleep?" He asked, and Karin nodded.
"I had some… thoughts that kept me up."
"Me too. I'm wondering if the 'mission I got to come here wasn't real. It's been a few days, and the soul society hasn't said anything on what I'm supposed to do."
"You kept hogging my thoughts."
Tōshirō frowned. "Is it because I beat you in soccer today?"
Karin chuckled. "No, that's not it."
Now that Tōshirō thought about it, Karin had also been on his mind frequently. She was even on his mind right now. She looked so, dare he say it, beautiful in the moonlight. The light reflected through the window, hitting her face and hair in a way that made her eyes sparkle. Before he knew it, his hands were running through her hair, which she had let down from her ponytail. She was leaning against him with her head on his shoulder. Tōshirō knew he should stop, but he didn't have it in him. This just felt… right. Tōshirō sighed, and put his hand on Karin's far shoulder, pulling her closer to him. She wrapped her arm around his waist, leaning deeper into him. They stayed like that for a while, staring out at the full moon. After a while, they turned around to look at each other, Karin moved her hands to his chest, and he wrapped one arm around her waist, and his hand was in her hair. Their faces were so close, and they were moving closer, but suddenly, they heard a creak in the floorboards outside of Karin's room, and as they continued the sound on footsteps was paired with them. They quickly stumbled into Karin's bed, making it look like they were always there.
The next morning, they acted as if the night before hadn't happened. They acted as they usually did, and went along with their usual routines, but Tōshirō felt more alone, now that he knew how close he could get to Karin. He wanted that, he wanted her. He wanted to be as close as they were then, and maybe even closer. He longed for it, and wished for that scene to replay every time he went to bed. It never happened, but now the what ifs had entered, and they wouldn't leave.
Karin
The what ifs were back.
They had left once she found Tōshirō, but now they had come back.
what if it happens again?
what if you get closer?
what if he likes you more than just a friend?
and finally, the worst one of all.
what if you like him, too?
Karin couldn't help but sigh whenever that one came across. No, she didn't like him like that. She was just friends with him, and something weird had happened that night.
yeah, that was it.
just keep lying to yourself, Karin.
well, it doesn't sound good when you put it like that.
Karin sighed. She was so frustrated! Tōshirō had barely even talked to her after that night!
but she wasn't going to let him have it. No, she was going to show him who she was. She was Karin Kurosaki! Tonight, she would set the record straight.
