Adam woke hearing his phone buzzing. He groaned but turned it off quick so he didn't wake Kim. He saw he had a case and needed to leave. He got up using the bathroom quick, brushing his teeth and getting dressed. Though he couldn't leave just yet. "Kim?" He whispered shaking her shoulder slightly. "Hey is it morning already?" She asked still mostly asleep. "Not really but I got called in. And I couldn't leave without letting you know." He watched her smile softly. "Thank you for letting me know. I will get up and head out too." Kim started to get up but he stopped her. "Stay as long as you need, no rush. Sleep, take a shower, eat some breakfast. Whenever you leave is fine. The door will lock behind you. I just didn't want you to think I ran out on you, on this. Cause I'm really enjoying this." He watched her smile widen. "Me too. Go. Be safe. Call me later." She kissed his cheek. "I will definitely do that. Enjoy your sleep. Talk soon." He kissed her head as he headed out. "Ranger go lay with mom in the bed." He watched the dog running to be with Kim.
As soon as they were settled again he headed to the address he was given. It took roughly 20 minutes to get there. He was the last one but not by a lot. Kevin was getting there as well. "Sorry for making you all come in but we have 5 dead gang bangers. And it's not the most fresh. Been dead probably 2 days or so. Let's work this quick." Voight sent everyone in to work the scene. Adam had felt Jay watching him. And he knew why but he wasn't bothered by it. They could talk later about it. Adam had taken a room with a body in it. It looked like the victim never saw it coming. He was asleep in his bed with one shot to the forehead. Adam checked for a pulse even though he knew the man was dead but he always double checked. He took lots of notes of the body and its surroundings. Then looked for evidence of a shell casing, drugs, guns anything to give them a lead. "You find anything? Jay asked. Adam wasn't surprised at all but was happy Erin was there too.
"Not really. Just the one shot to the head. Don't think he saw it coming though. He's tucked in for the night. Was probably asleep. And I would assume a silencer was used unless he was the first killed." Adam answered then headed out the room. "Hold up." Jay called out. "Look I know what you want to ask and that's fine but later. Not here at a scene. But I will tell you no I didn't have sex with her. And yes she's asleep in my bed right now. Now I'm going back to work." Adam walked off frustrated. "Jay he's right. We are at work. We can deal with that later. And he kept his promise not to have sex with her. He's a good guy. I know you and Kim have been through a lot together and separate. But you are not her father. If they want to hang out together, let them." Erin knew Jay was trying to be protective but he was coming off like an asshole.
"I know you are right. But it's really both of them I'm trying to protect. Medical discharge from the military changes people. Not just physically but mentally. What if she has flashbacks, nightmares, PTSD. And he's literally been divorced 3 days. It's both I want to protect. Not just her. But I will back off. I promise I will try better." Jay wasn't thrilled but knew Erin was right. He needed to back off and let them figure it out. Whatever it was. They continued to work the scene going through every room, every closet, every cabinet trying to find a lead in the right direction. It was barely sun up when they arrived back at the district. Adam taking his time not wanting a fight with Jay. Antonio notice Adam hanging back. "He promised Erin he would back off of whatever is going on between you and the Sergeant. He wants to protect you both from each other." Adam looked stunned. "I made sure to listen when I heard your raised voice. For what's it's worth you are both right." He watched Adam nod. "So what is going on?" Antonio asked unsure he would get an answer.
"Um not really sure. We have very similar issues that led to the break up of our relationships. So we bonded over that. Neither is ready for another relationship but are attracted to the other. She spent most of the weekend at my place on the couch watching true crime documentaries. And yes a lot of that time we were cuddled together. I don't know how to explain it. But it feels good." Adam really didn't know how to explain it since he wasn't sure he understood it. "That actually makes sense. Especially since you just got divorced and you have a kid. And she just got back to the states and doesn't have a job yet. Kind of sounds perfect." Antonio patted him on the shoulder as they headed in. Everyone had heard the argument earlier so no one was surprised Adam was last in the bullpen and they didn't blame him. "Let's just focus on this case then you two can hash out your issues." Voight ordered looking between the two. Adam nodded since that was what he wanted to begin with. Jay also nodded knowing he created this.
The case was tough and kept everyone moving. Not leaving anyone time to think about the issue brewing beneath the surface. It was around 8 when Kim started to wake up. She felt Ranger snuggled with her. "Hey bud. Did Adam let you in here?" She asked looking at him knowing he break the rules. He nuzzled her a bit like an answer. "Okay. So let's get you outside to potty and then we can figure it out." Kim started to get up and dressed in more appropriate clothes taking Ranger for a walk and to use the bathroom. After a decent walk they headed back to Adams place using the spare key she found by the door. They reentered where Kim fed Ranger before finding herself something to eat. She tried not to make a mess as it wasn't her home and Adam was being so gracious with his space. After she ate she cleaned up after herself making sure the kitchen was how she found it. She then headed to the shower.
She had brought her toiletries so she could shower at his place over the weekend. She was thankful for the kindness he provided to her. She loved having a place where she felt like she belonged again. She also knew she really needed to get out of the hotel. She needed her own space to live again, to grow again and to heal. Healing was the hardest part. It wasn't just the physical it was the mental. She was just happy to have the support group she found in Chicago to help get deal with the PTSD. The nightmares seemed not to be a thing since she was blacked out during the trauma. She didn't remember the bombing. She didn't remember the aftermath. She was told what happened but she doesn't remember it happening. That seemed to be a blessing.
As she finished her shower she heard her phone ringing. She ran to answer it. "Hello?" She didn't have time to see who it was before her voice mail picked up. "Sergeant Burgess. This is Commander Crowley. I'm calling to see if we can set up a time to talk about you coming back to CPD. Can you come in today at 11am?" Crowley asked. "Um yes I can do that. I have my Military dog with me is it fine if I bring him?" Kim asked unsure how she would feel about it. "Well I would prefer not. I don't like dogs and I'm allergic." Crowley was short with her answer. "That's fine. I can get someone to watch him while we talk. It's fine. I will see you at 11am. Thank you very much." Kim went back to getting dressed. She dried her hair quickly before dressing quickly. She headed out to the hotel to find something better to wear but she also needed to find someone to watch Ranger. She really didn't want him in the hotel alone for hours on end. She made a call to the one person she was sure would help her.
"Hey. How's your morning going?" Adam answered heading to the break room. "It's been good. I'm back at the hotel getting dressed for a meeting with Commander Crowley. Who apparently is allergic to dogs. Could you watch Ranger while I'm in my meeting? Will Voight be okay with that?" Kim asked hoping for the best. "Yeah I think it will be fine. Hold on though." He moved to his bosses office. "Hey boss would you mind a friend bringing her dog here for a bit while she has a meeting with Crowley? He is military trained." Adam asked. "Yeah that's fine. Crowley hates dogs so it's fine." Voight really didn't mind since it would be short term. "Great thanks. I appreciate it." Adam headed back to the break room. "I'm sure you heard since I didn't mute it but yes bring him over." Adam was smiling knowing he would see her today. "Great thank you much! I will see you soon! Bye!" Kim smiled wide. "Bye Sergeant!" Adam laughed knowing she was rolling her eyes.
Adam returned to work knowing he would see her soon. Jay watched Adam the whole time not realizing Erin was giving him a stern look. The case moved on as Kim drove to the district with Ranger. She was nervous and excited for her meeting with the Commander. She hoped she walked away with a job but she wasn't sure. She arrived seeing the district before her. She had never been here before but she was happy to be here. "Alright buddy. You are going to hang out with Adam for a bit while I have a meeting. And then we can play together afterwards." She jumped out with him right behind her. He was on a leash but he stayed right beside her as they walked inside. "Good morning. I'm here to see Officer Ruzek?" Kim stated to the desk sergeant. "I will call him down." Kim moved back while she waited. It wasn't long till she saw him coming down the stairs.
"Hey! Good to see you!" He hugged her tight. "Good to see you too. Thank you for this. Really I'm so nervous but excited and knowing Ranger is with you will help me relax." She melted into his embrace a bit. "You are going to rock the meeting! I know it! Now head out so you can be early Sergeant." He winked taking the leash from her. She rolled her eyes kissing Ranger before she left. Platt watched the whole interaction. "Ruzek! What was all that about?" Platt asked confused but interested. "Well that's Sergeant Burgess. And we are friends. She has a meeting with Crowley today, who doesn't like dogs. So Ranger is with me for a bit. That's all." Adam tried to school his expression. "Well okay then. Get back to it." Platt watched as he left wondering what was really going on.
He got to the top of the stairs with Ranger who saw Jay and started to bark. "Ranger! Hey buddy!" Adam let him loose so Ranger could go see Jay. It was sweet watching them together. Jay was on the floor getting kisses and hugs. "I missed you too buddy!" Jay hugged him trying to get him to calm down some. "Ranger give Jay a break. You can say hi to other people." Adam asked somewhat stern. He calmed down but was still getting pets from Jay. "Thank you buddy. You are doing good." Adam patted his head as he fixed a bowl of water to drink. When he returned he found Ranger walking around checking everyone out. Jay was calling Mouse who would love to see Ranger too. They all worked as Mouse entered the room. "Ranger!" Mouse sat down right away getting tackled by Ranger. It was great seeing him so happy. Adam had taken photos to share with Kim of both Jay and Mouse with Ranger. Knowing it would help her relax as she waited for her meeting to start.
"How did this happen?" Mouse asked confused but loving it. "Sergeant Burgess has a meeting with Commander Crowley today so I'm watching Ranger for her." Adam answered watching them. "Oh wow she's back! When?" Mouse asked. "She's been back a month." Adam didn't know how much information to give away. "Wow. Hopefully she's back to work soon! We all need to hang out again." Mouse looked towards Jay. "I agree." Jay added but didn't say much. "You know I ran in to her fiancé last week and he said nothing." Mouse was surprised. "Ex fiancé. Not to give too much away but she was gravely injured and when she woke from the medically induced coma she found a text that he was leaving her." Adam explained knowing they mostly knew that but Mouse hadn't been there. "What an asshole. Sounds like your situation." Mouse shrugged. "Yeah we bonded over that. We agreed to help each other heal and move past it. To be the support for each other. I agreed to be the anchor that she feels like she doesn't have." Adam explained looking towards Jay who had an issue with Adam and Kim spending time together. "That's great man! Really!" Kevin was happy for his friend who found someone who understood him.
Kim was waiting outside the Commanders office. Having no idea how this would go. She really wanted to get her job back. But wasn't sure her body was ready for running the streets. But as a Sergeant she didn't have to run the streets. Though that was how she ran her unit. She was in the trenches with them all the time. She almost felt like she could throw up from the nerves. But she held it together as she looked at the photos of her dog with her friends. He was happy and enjoying life so that was one less thing to worry about. She saw the door open and the Commander walk out. She showed no emotion but that was the job. "Good afternoon Commander." Kim got up offering a hand shake. "Good afternoon Sergeant. Thank you for coming." The Commander shook her hand then led her into the office, closing the door behind them.
Kim took the seat that was offered to her. She tried not to show emotion but she was nervous as hell. "I won't keep you in suspense much longer. We have decided that you are able to rejoin CPD as long as you pass the physical again. I know, we know the running might be difficult especially long term but we need to see that your lungs are healing and continuing to move in the right direction. If you get to a point that you aren't healing we may have to move to a Desk Sergeant role. But you are a great Sergeant with a great closure rate so we are willing to work with you. So next week you have the physical. And if you pass you will be taking over Homicide at the 21st." She watched all the emotions flashing over Kim's face. "Thank you so very much! I promise I won't let you down! Either way, I won't let you down." Kim reached over to shake her hand again excitedly. "You have never let me down and I know you won't this time. We just all know you are still healing and that you still have shrapnel in your back. That's why we are willing to try. Till then you are free to leave. We will talk after your physical. Take care." Kim was handed a card with the date and time of her physical as she headed out. "Thank you again." Kim shook her hand one more time before she left.
She made it outside before she started to smile wider than the sun. She got in her car and headed right to the 21st. She couldn't believe how it worked out. And she wanted to celebrate with her anchor later tonight. She arrived heading up the steps with a bit of pep in her steps. She entered the lobby seeing the same women as before. "Sergeant Burgess, your back. You want me to buzz you up to get your dog from Ruzek?" Platt asked. "Yes thank you very much." She smiled as she took to the stairs. The team working hard on their case as she entered the room. "Ranger." She whispered. He jumped up running towards her. Everyone turned to see her with the dog. "Hey how did it go?" Adam asked unsure since he couldn't read her face. "Well pending I pass the physical I will be taking over Homicide here in the 21st. If not I will probably ended up getting a desk sergeant role. Though she said as long as I show improvement from my last tests they are willing to work with me. So I think it went pretty well actually." Kim smiled brightly.
"That's exciting! I'm so happy for you!" He hugged her tight. "Tonight are you up for a sleep over?" She whispered. He pulled back winking. He loved the idea of having a sleep over with her. He knew sex wasn't involved but that didn't matter they just enjoyed each other's company. They both loved it. "Okay you have work and I promise Ranger some park time. So call me later." She waved as she left with her dog in tow. Kim headed out giddy for some park time but also for more time with Adam. She was very excited about it. She had idea what it meant, what they had going on other than friendship but she liked it a lot. She wondering if she was even happy in her last relationship. She's not sure she ever felt like this in her last relationship. She wondered if it was all wrong. And it probably was since he left her after she got hurt. But the possibility of something new even if it's just friendship was exciting.
"Well you guys look pretty chummy!" Erin laughed. "Yeah we really bonded over the last few days. Opening up about things we probably wouldn't normally talk about. But she's a cool friend. I really like it. Someone who gets what you're going through is great." He shrugged a bit. "Does she know you have Izzy?" Jay asked cautiously. "Yes. And she knows about the custody schedule. The fact that I have therapy with the ex to work together to co parent. And she's even heard me talking with Izzy on the phone. But I did tell Kim I don't know when I will be comfortable with them meeting. Even as friends. And she was fine with that." Adam answered knowing they would all be curious about that. "I think that's very smart even in this situation. She's new to your life and Izzy would get confused so I get that. Romantic or not that is the best way to play it." Antonio offered being divorced himself he knew how tricky that could be. "Exactly! I don't want her to think it's more than it is and tell my ex and cause a fight over nothing. I just want a happy kid and some peace while I figure it all out. Lord knows if that will happen. Tomorrow is day one of therapy so that's the test." Adam took a deep breath thinking about it.
"You are doing the right thing for Izzy. Trying to work out your differences so it doesn't affect her. I'm proud of you for suggesting it. We all know therapy sucks but it's best for Izzy." Jay was feeling better the more he heard. "Let's finish this. I'm exhausted!" Voight ordered as they set out to finish up the case. Kim was just a few blocks away running around with Ranger. He loved to play and run. He had lots of energy and needed to stretch his legs. Plus the fresh air was good for them both. She had found a stick to throw around with him. He was loving it. He was also unfazed by the other dogs in the park. He only got on guard when someone got too close to Kim. That was a big no in his mind. They only headed out when Kim started to get hungry. So they headed back to the hotel. It was a long stay hotel so she had a kitchen to use and did make food often for herself. It helped save money for her future housing. She wanted to rent for a bit to figure out what area she wanted to end up in. She liked doing that and she liked renting cars when she traveled to test out new vehicles. She hated getting stuck in an apartment she hated or that was in a bad area. Sometimes it's just bad neighbors who make you want to move. She really needs to figure it out and fast.
While she ate she looked at listings for apartments around the area. She even found one in Adams building but that might be too close. And seem stalker like. She did like the area though and it would be good for Ranger. She would have to talk to him about it. Let him have a say in it. She was getting bored though. And that was the problem the last few weeks. It was hard to stay busy when you lived in such a small space. And working out was an issue. She wasn't cleared for cardio yet. Yeah she had to run for the physical but she wasn't supposed to everyday till her lungs were better and the doctors cleared her. She understood completely. The doctors did suggest Pilates and Yoga for a way to workout but not go crazy. And light weight lifting was okay too. She needed to find a new gym that offered that. She had to cancel her gym membership after the break up. Kim could literally see herself dropping a weight on his foot. So it was better this way. "Ranger you want to go for a walk?" Kim asked wanting to leave her room. It felt claustrophobic.
She walked to a local park just to move a bit more. Ranger was loving the extra time outdoors and Kim really needed to work on her stamina so this would help. Kim sat on a bench close to the pond just relaxing in the sun. Ranger sitting next her getting lots of scratches. Sitting there in the sun gave her plenty of time to think about life and Adam. Her mind swirling thinking about him. The questions about him and where this was headed. Where did she want it head? That was one of the big questions she thought of often. How would that work with him having a daughter? And an ex wife. She knew she couldn't wait forever to think since she was already 37. Did she want kids? At one time it was all she thought about. And the doctors assured her it was possible to have a child even with the shrapnel in her back and the surgery she had. Kim was exhausted just from the spinning.
The team had gotten a lead and a suspect and they were headed out to arrest the suspect. They were armed and ready for a fight. They wanted this done. It was a small apartment so hopefully it would be quick without issue. Voight knocked, announcing it was CPD before Jay kicked the door open. They all moved in clearing the spaces as they found the suspect trying to get out the window. But Erin and Kevin were pulling him back in cuffing him. They dragged him out of the apartment throwing him in a squad car. "Everyone paperwork tomorrow. Go home!" Voight was over it for the day. "Thank god!" Adam cheered. "Ruz can we talk for just a minute before you go?" Jay asked standing next to Erin. "Sure. What's up?" Adam asked slightly annoyed but they did need to talk. "I'm sorry. I really am. I know that I came off as an asshole earlier. That was not my intention. I really do want to protect you both from each other. Which I know I can't do. I will back off, I promise. I consider you both family and I want you both happy. So if being together, in a relationship or not, makes you happy then I will stay out of it." Jay offered a hand shake but Adam just pulled him in for a hug.
"I get it. I really do. And you are my family too. But like I said earlier I have no idea where it's going. It's just nice knowing that she gets it. She understands the pain of being dumped like that. The pain of recovering without your significant other. The agony of moving forward alone. The angst of thinking about starting over in another relationship. Unsure of every move. Second guessing everything. Wondering where it all went wrong? How you got it wrong? Was any of it real? I appreciate her for all that." Adam paused needing a moment to collect himself. "I'm gonna go. I um have therapy tomorrow after work and could use the extra sleep. See ya tomorrow." Adam hugged them both as he headed off. He had said things he hadn't said out loud. Things that made him feel weak. He texted Kim as soon as he was in the car. "I really need a sleep over tonight." He knew she was up for it. She replied right away that she was packing a bag and would be there soon. He smiled wide.
As he drove his phone rang. He knew it was his daughter. He loved talking to her. "Hey my sweetheart! How was your day at school?" He asked smiling. "Hi daddy! School was awesome! We are learning to read." She was excited to talk to her dad. "Oh good so next week you can read to me then? Thank goodness!" He joked and she knew it. Her giggling was over the top. "No daddy! It's going to take a while to learn. Duh!" She laughed hard but so did he. "Well maybe next month then." He loved hearing her laughing. It was the best sound ever. "I can't wait to see you daddy!" She almost cried. "Oh I know sweetheart. I have missed you so much. How about on Wednesday night we have a movie night in daddies room with popcorn and your favorite stuffy?" Adam offered hating to hear her cry. "Okay daddy! I love that idea!" She was smiling again. He could tell by her voice. "My sweet girl are you yawning?" He asked as he drove. "Yeah I'm tired today." She yawned again. He looked at the clock it was only 7:15. "Okay well how about you take a bath and then get into bed okay?" Adam was worried a bit. "Okay daddy. I love you." She giggled. "I love you too my sweet. See you Wednesday." He heard her whisper bye as she hung up.
He arrived home seeing Kim waiting for him. He smiled wide seeing her. "Hey! How was the rest of your day?" He asked getting out of the car. "Good boring. We went to the park again just to get some fresh air. How about you?" She asked hugging him. "Good. Case is done. Talked to Izzy on the way home. I'm worried. She was tired already and normally she's full energy. I'm hoping she's not getting sick." He was actually very worried. "Oh no. I hope she's not getting sick. Sick kids are awful." Kim really felt for him. "She was laughing a lot but she was yawning. Maybe she was just busy today. How about we get inside. I'm starving." Adam held the door open for them to come in. "I could eat and I'm sure Ranger could too." She laughed bumping his shoulder as they went. Adam just laughed at her. "Let's go!" He led her to the elevator and then to his apartment. He opened the door letting them in. He dropped his bag by the door and d moved to the kitchen.
Adam started to cook he was hungry and tired and waiting for delivery would take forever. "Whatcha making?" Kim asked as she sat on the counter top. "A simple pastina. It's easy, tastes good and quick." He watched Kim who looked at home in his kitchen. She was watching him work measuring out the chicken broth and the pasta. "Thank you for the photos earlier. I loved seeing Ranger so happy. He normally doesn't warm up to new people so quick. But he likes you." Kim watched him smile. "What's not to like?" He asked stepping back showing her the full package. "Oh god your ego is inflated!" Kim laughing kicking his butt lightly. "Oh please not even close!" He laughed but kept cooking. "You love it!" He winked as she laughed. The laughs and soft touches continued as Adam cooked. It was fun and felt normal. She watched him adding butter and parmesan cheese bringing it all together before he served it in bowls.
"This looks good. Thank you." Kim smiled as they settled at the table. She had grabbed drinks for them as he plated the dinner. "You are welcome. It's not fancy but it's better than nothing." He smiled looking at her as she took a mouthful. "So good. We need to make this more." Kim smiled as she ate. "Thank you and yes I promised to make it more." He squeezed her hand but didn't hold it too long. He didn't want to confuse things or make her uncomfortable. "What are we watching tonight?" He asked. "Um I think Stolen Youth. It's about a cult out of Sarah Lawerence in NYC. I think it's only 4 parts. There is another one about the final days of Jonestown I want to watch at some point. It goes in depth into the shooting at the airfield, the mass suicide, mass murder, how the military found them. I can't imagine finding 920 dead bodies outside of Guyana. In that heat. The smell must have been beyond horrid." Kim shuddered thinking about it. "That's awful. I don't think I know much about Jonestown other than they drank kool-aid laced with poison." He admitted since it was long before his time.
"It's pretty insane. But it was based on the premise of being all inclusive. All races, greeds, genders, ages. Then went crazy with the prophet saying the government was coming after them. He convinced close to a thousand people to move to Guyana to live in a commune. He was married but cheated on his wife with so many other woman because god said he could. The conditions weren't great, the threats, the punishments had people questioning. The Governor of California actually flew there with family members of people in the cult to figure out if they were being held against their will. The Governor left with enough people to fill two planes but they had only ordered one. While they waited for the second plane security from Jonestown drove to the air strip to kill whoever they could as punishment. One woman had her head blown off while sitting on a plane. The Governor was murdered. It was insane. The next day was the day they drank the poison. But what's more sick is that some people were found in their beds with a syringe in the back of the neck. That's murder, not suicide. The last two left were the cult leader and his lover. She shot him in the head, probably because he didn't drink the poison himself. Then she took her own life with the same gun. The dead were found on top of each other. They dropped wherever they died. One man chose to walk into the woods after watching his wife and son die from the poison. Seeing it wasn't peaceful as for told. Total 920 bodies. 400 something woman, 300 something children, the rest men. It was crazy brutal." Kim watched his eyes going wide.
"Yeah we need to watch that. I want to learn about it. Sounds crazy and fascinating. So yeah I'm down for that." He smiled loving her knowledge and passion. "It is crazy and I promise we will." She helped clean up after dinner. "So today I was spinning out a bit." Kim admitted as they settled on the couch. "What were you spinning about?" He ssked softly but it was obvious she wanted to talk about it since she brought it. "Um its crazy but I keep thinking about all the things I want to talk about with you but Im afraid. Its too soon. But I'm running out of time." She sighed heavily. "Hey whatever it is. Just tell me. This is how we support each other." He took her hands in his trying to give her the courage to say what she was thinking. "I keep wondering where this is going. Where I want it to go. The fact Im 37 already. You. You have a daughter and an ex wife. I just wonder how it all plays out. And its all too soon for me to spin out about this." She looked up seeing the understanding on his face.
"Well I get most of that because I've been wondering the same things. As for being 37, thats not old. Im 35. If we get there we have time to decide about adding kids. I dont think you are too old for having kids. I think it makes us better prepared. I dont know how my daughter and ex wife fit in. Izzy will always be my world and I have no clue when I will introduce you two. But I do know that I want to do that at some point. And yes you will have to meet the ex one day even if we only stay just friends. I want her and I to work together to raise our daughter. I want family holidays. One birthday party. But just know Im very serious about figuring this out. Im not sure I have ever been this comfortable in any relationship. And we arent even there yet. I know I thought about you a lot today. And I hated like hell leaving this morning. I wanted to stay with you. I couldnt wait to get home to you. It sounds crazy I know but thats how I felt." Adam watched her smiling nodding her head. "Me too! And I agree about it all. Thank you for understanding." She snuggled against him.
"Okay lets watch a documentary." Adam held her close as she looked for the one she wanted to watch. Her head rested on his chest the whole time. After two episodes they took Ranger out for a walk and to go to the bathroom. When they returned they headed right to bed. Adam had been up early and was exhausted. Adam stripped off his clothes and curled up into the bed as Kim stripped down to her shirt and panties climbing in next to him. "So one more thing I wanted to ask was about apartments. I have several I want to look at but one is in this building. Is that okay? Or too much too soon?" She wasn't sure how he would react. "I'm fine with that. Its not like you would be living here. And it would be good for Ranger on nights you have to work I can take him so he's not cooped up in your office all day." Adam offered knowing it was a good solution. "I didn't think of that. You are right though. Well I will keep it on the list then. Hopefully I can view them soon. I would like to get out if the hotel. Its bern nice being here. Having space to move around some. Even if its not mine." She snuggled closer.
"This feels so right. But I'm afraid to rush it. I dont want you to be a rebound." He let his fingers wander her back some. "Same. Lets just focus on building a strong foundation. You have therapy tomorrow and work. So you need sleep. So good night. Thanks for allowing the sleep over." She kissed his chest smiling. "Thank you for being here. I really do enjoy it." He kissed her head then letting himself drift off thinking of what could be. Kim fall asleep shortly after dreaming of the good days ahead. Where everything made sense. And her mind was at peace. Neither could wait but they had to. It was the only way it could work and they both knew it. But it was the dream for both.
