Chapter 10

Harry and Scorpius made their way to Kingsley's office as quickly as they could. They knew it was late and had to wait for him after sending an owl. Fortunately for them, the Minister made sure to be available at all times and made it to his office rather quickly.

Kingsley looked tired, but eager to see Harry and Scorpius.

"What happened? What did you find?" Kingsley asked.

"We think we found the missing prophecy...and we think it's about Hermione. We think she could be in real danger," Harry said quickly, trying not to waste as little time as possible.

"What makes you believe that?" Kingsley asked.

"Where the missing prophecy was...it was labeled under what we believed to have been referring to a Granger-Weasley," Scorpius said.

"Which means Hermione," Harry was growing impatient.

"Could be Hermione," Kingsley nodded slowly.

"Could be? It's about Hermione. There's no other Granger-Weasley, and if it's a blood curse...she is in real danger. We need to tell her and Ron right away." Harry said, pacing now.

Kingsley could see Harry was growing impatient, so he nodded, knowing the curse could be about Hermione or any of her future children, but also knowing Harry couldn't know that yet.

"You're right. I'll send an owl right away," Kingsley said.

"That's it?" Harry seemed frustrated.

"What else should I do? It's late and the Weasleys already have extra security. We are all tired as well. I suggest you two head home and I'll wait for their response." Kingsley said.

"No, no I'm not leaving until I know what our next plan is," Harry said, holding his ground. Hermione was his best friend and he would not be kept out of the loop on anything that could be a danger to her.

Kingsley sighed and pointed to the two chairs in front of him for Scorpious and to sit while they waited for Ron and Lex.

The silence of the house was far too much for Hermione as she stood there, watching Ron stare at the cake she made in pure shock and his new, by all accounts beautiful partner, sat awkwardly at their dinner table.

Hermione could feel the tears rising. This was not how she wanted to tell Ron she was pregnant. She shook her head and without a word took off up the stairs.

"Go get her," Lex's voice broke Ron from his train of thought.

Ron snapped his eyes up at Lex and then nodded, realizing she was right. He quickly took off down the hall and up the stairs after his wife.

"Hermione? Hermione, stop," Ron said as he followed her, but she did not stop. Instead, he could hear a small sob escape her throat as she moved into their bedroom.

Ron followed her and watched her throw herself on their bed. "Hermione, is it true?"

"Is what true?" Hermione asked through her tears, her head in her pillow, avoiding eye contact with Ron.

"What the cake said? It is true? Are you...are you pregnant?" Ron asked, his voice thick with pure shock.

Hermione nodded, still not looking at him.

"Hermione, talk to me, please," Ron sounded almost desperate, but he did not move from his spot a few feet into the room. It was as if his feet were stuck.

Hermione sighed, trying her best to wipe her face before slowly sitting up on the bed. She quickly glanced at Ron, then avoided eye contact, giving another nod, her voice soft. "Yes..."

Ron stood there in shock, his mind racing a million miles an hour. He didn't know what to think, or how to feel. Hermione was pregnant. They were going to have a baby. He was going to be a dad. There were so many things he wanted to do and say to Hermione. Sure, he was scared, but he wanted her to know how much he loved her and by extension any baby they had created. Instead of saying that, however, he said something else.

"So that's why you were at St. Mungos..." Ron said slowly.

Hermione brow furrowed at his response. "How did you know that?"

Ron looked at her, about to respond, when suddenly he heard an owl downstairs and quickly after, feet flying up the stairs. Both he and Hermione glanced at the doorframe to see Lex standing there.

"I'm sorry to interrupt this but...we need to get to the Ministry right now," Lex said to Ron, holding up the letter from Kingsley.

"What is it?" Ron asked.

"Kingsley just said he needs us. He said it's important," Lex said, feeling so very awkward inserting herself in this entire situation with her parents but glad to know that Rose had been conceived and that much of the future was secure.

"Alright," Ron nodded at Lex, and then turned his attention back to Hermione. "We'll talk when I get back."

Hermione's mouth opened in shock as she realized Ron was really going to leave in the middle of everything. However, she quickly closed it, understanding that he was already nearly out the door.

Within seconds, Hermione heard Ron and Lex exit the house via the Floo Network. The second she realized she was alone the scream that had been stuck in her throat escaped, and the tears flowed freely from her eyes. She had had a vision for how she had wanted that night to go but Ron's response had turned into an absolute disaster. As Hermione cried, she looked down at her flat stomach, unable to imagine that there was actually a baby in there right now.

Lex and Ron arrived at the Ministry as quickly as they could, though Ron barely spoke the entire time. He was still in complete shock at the news. Hermione had said she was pregnant. They were not planning on having a child anytime soon but he knew it was something that would be in their future at some point. He just thought they would've talked about it more, that he would have been more prepared, that they would've been more prepared.

Lex stopped short of Kingsley's office and turned to Ron. "Listen, I understand that you are probably in shock here, but you have to get it together. Obviously, something is coming, and we need to be focused."

Ron shook his head, trying to snap himself from his thoughts and realizing Lex was right. Although all he wanted to think about was the fact that he would be a father, he knew that he needed to be focused on whatever Kingsley was about to tell them. All of his thoughts of Hermione and the news she had just unexpectedly shared with him had to be pushed to the back of his mind. In theory, that should've been easy, but he had no idea how he would do it.

"Are you good?" Lex asked her father. The only other time she had ever seen him in such a state was when he found out that Rose and Scorpius had been dating for months that Hermione had kept it a secret from him Rose's request. He was dumbfounded and slightly upset with Hermione just like he seemed to be now.

"Yeah," Ron nodded, taking another deep breath before opening the door and leading Lex into Kingsley's office.

The pair found Kingsley sitting at his desk, and Harry and Scorpius sitting across from him, clearly waiting for their arrival. They all stood when they saw them both.

"What's happening that you had to bring us down here so late?" Lex asked.

"Harry and Scorpius found some thing. It took them all night, but they did find what we believe to be the missing prophecy," Kingsley started.

"Well, that should be a good thing, right?" Lex asked.

"We think it's about Hermione," Harry said, looking only at Ron.

If there had been any color in Ron's face, it was surely drained now. He blinked twice at his best friend. "What? What do you mean?"

"The name under the missing prophecy, we believe it was Granger-Weasley," Scorpius spoke up this time.

Ron shook his head in disbelief. "No, it can't be about Hermione. How could a blood curse be about Hermione?"

Lex felt bad, seeing how upset her father was by the news. She knew that he had no idea that it was good that they were able to find this prophecy or at least confirm its existence now they just needed to track it down.

"We don't know anything yet, Ron. All we do know is that we need to track The Prophecy for now and keep her safe in the meantime." Kingsley said carefully.

"I need to go home," Ron said quickly, his only thoughts on Hermione now. He quickly turned and made his way out of the office without another word.

No one bothered to try to stop Ron, they all knew it would be no use.

"That was the reaction I expected," Harry said.

Kingsley nodded. "Until we can figure out who stole the prophecy and what it is we're going to need to keep an extra set of eyes on Hermione. I think you need to get home to Ginny and James, but Scorpius and Lex, I would like you to keep a close eye on Hermione...run extra detail on her and don't anyone near her unless we know who they are until we can figure out. Take turns, I expect her to never be alone."

Lex and Scorpius looked at each other and shared a nod in agreement with Kingsley's request.

"I want to help," Harry said.

"We won't keep you out of the loop on this Harry, but you need to get home to your family and worry about them right now. We don't know if this is part of something bigger," Kingsley said.

Harry thought for a long moment but then nodded in agreement. He knew Hermione was in good hands and he did need to get home to his wife and child and make sure they were safe as well so he nodded and left the office.

The second Lex, Scorpius, and Kingsley were alone, Lex turned to the men.

"My Mum is pregnant with Rose. I think I sort of ruined the surprise of her telling my dad but...well at least that is on track as we expected." Lex said.

Kingsley nodded. "All the more reason we sort this out sooner rather than later then."

Lex nodded in agreement, realizing that everything should come back to do was falling into place. There really was a chance she may be able to save her family after all.
