Chapter 21

Ron, Harry, Scorpius, and Hermione arrived back at Ron and Hermione's home and immediately Ron went to work, grabbing one of the many bags Hermione had put an undetectable extension charm on over the years and throwing it on the table.

"We'll need some things to break into those cells down there...magic won't do it. It will have to be muggle tools..." Ron said, moving to find some of the muggle things Hermione's father had given him over the years to fix things around the house. He found a screw driver and a small hammer and quickly put them into the bag.

"My invisibility cloak would be helpful..." Harry said.

Ron shook his head. "No time to get it. Also, Harry...you can't come...if something happens...you have Ginny and James to worry about."

"Ron..." Harry started but stopped. Ron was right. As much as he wanted to help, if something happened, if they were caught, he couldn't leave Ginny alone and pregnant.

"Go home, Harry," Ron told his brother-in-law and best friend.

Harry sighed but nodded and disaparated as Ron went back to throwing things into Hermione's bag.

"Ron, stop," Hermione threw both of her hands on top of his, holding them still and staring at him. "Before we do another thing I need to know what is going on."

"Hermione, I can explain it later-" Ron started.

"No...no you will explain it now," Hermione's voice was stern and then, to pack a punch, she took his hand and moved it to the small bump of her pregnant stomach. "You owe me."

Ron looked down at his hands and at her stomach, knowing it held their daughter Rose and knowing that he wanted to protect her and Rose as much as he wanted to protect Lex.

"Hermione, please trust me...I can tell you everything once Lex is safe-" Ron started again.

"We thought it was this baby they were after but maybe it's just your baby, Ron...which means..." Hermione looked away. She couldn't bring herself to say it. The thought of Ron cheating on her was too much.

"Hermione..." Ron realized what she was hinting at again and shook his head, taking her hands.

"Just tell me, Ron...if they took Lex for her blood..." Hermione shook her head, fighting back her own tears as she was unable to finish her sentence.

"Hermione, if you had any idea how mental you sound right now...what you are thinking is the furthest thing from the truth about Lex...," Ron told her.

"Bloody hell, we don't have time for this! We need to get to Lex before they bloody kill her! Just bloody tell her the truth!" Scorpius had grown impatient now.

Ron sighed and finally nodded, turning back to Hermione and taking both of her hands in his again. "Alright...look, Hermione...this is going to be a lot to take in so I'm just going to say it and I need you to just accept it and I can explain the rest later, alright?"

"Yes, fine," Hermione nodded eagerly.

"You're right...they are after my kid's blood...and your kid's blood...and Lex happens to have both of those things which is why they took her," Ron said.

Hermione's head was spinning. Ron wasn't making any sense. "What?"

"Bloody hell...she's your daughter. Lex is your daughter...and his." Scorpius told her, pointing between her and Ron. He didn't want to waste anymore time on this.

"What?!" Hermione felt all the blood drain from her face as she looked at Ron for answers.

Ron merely shrugged and nodded. "Told you it was a lot to take in."

Hermione stood there in shock as Scorpius moved forward and grabbed the bag on the table.

"We need to go...now," Scorpius said, conviction in his eyes. He would do whatever it took to no safe Lex.

Lex could feel herself moving in and out of consciousness. Her head was throbbing. Between the massive wound to her cheek and the effects of the Cruciatus Curse she just wanted to let go. Nothing seemed to matter now that she knew the plan of her captors was to kill her. The cold concrete floor felt good on her face and she knew it would be easier to close her eyes and never open them again.

"Keep yourself awake...you need to have your wits about you," Kingsley's voice echoed in Lex's ear as she felt his hand connect with the good side of her face.

Lex opened her eyes to find the younger Kingsley hunched over her, trying his best to keep her awake.

"Go away," Lex grumbled.

"I can't...you said your last name was Weasley? Then my assumption is you're important here," Younger Kingsley said.

Lex groaned but pushed herself up off the ground and allowed Kingsley to help drag her against the back wall, allowing her to lean herself up in a seated position.

Lex tried herself best to focus on Kingsley, her brain still not fully comprehending all of the information that had been thrown at her by the other Kingsley.

"Why are you down here?" Lex finally asked.

"I wasn't sure at first but things are starting to add up now," Kingsley said, leaning back against the wall next to Lex. "A prophecy was found about...well we assumed Hermione...I chose not to do anything about it, or inform Ron and Hermione about...and then one day I was in my office and all the sudden I was taken by some masked figures and brought down here."

Lex looked at Kingsley with a blank stare. "How are you putting anything together from that?"

"Well, you said there was another Kingsley here..." Kingsley said.

Lex nodded. "He's the future you...he came back with me...or I guess so anyway."

"So with you, meaning you are form the future...as in a future Weasley?" Kingsley asked.

Lex nodded. "Hermione and Ron are my parents."

"So then...the prophecy..." Kingsley said slowly.

"They think it's about me," Lex said.

Kingsley sighed. "It's a blood curse prophecy...which means if they are trying to figure it out..."

"They need my blood...yeah...I'm aware," Lex said, defeat clearly in her voice.

"And they are going to kill you for it," Another voice filled the room. Kingsley didn't know it, but Lex recognized it, and it caused her to go rigid.

Both Kingsley and Lex looked up to see Finn standing outside of their cell, his mask no longer on.

Despite the excursating pain she was in, Lex was furious to see her fiancé standing there. She gathered herself and moved toward the bars that Finn stood on the other side of.

"How could you do this to me?" Lex clenched her jaw.

Finn sighed. "I didn't know..."

"You didn't know the prophecy was about me? That this was all a trap?" Lex pushed, angry with him but also, a small part of her desperately wanting to believe he had been blindsided by this all, that he cared enough about her that he wouldn't have sacrificed her willingly.

"I didn't know they would kill you over to," Finn said, both indirectly answering Lex's question while not actually confirming the truth.

"But you knew why they sent me back here?" Lex pressed

Finn again didn't answer her but instead took something out of his back pocket. He held it up so Lex could see. It was her wand.

"They are going to come back down here soon to get you...so this is your only chance. I'm going to give you your wand and I am going to unlock this door. The hallway to my left leads to an underground tunnel. It will take you back up to the Ministry atrium. You need to get out of here and get to Shell Cottage. Understand?" Finn spoke quickly and quietly.

Lex narrowed her eyes. Finn had given her no reason to believe him.

"Why should I trust you about any of this? You were part of the group that brought me down here in the first place," Lex said.

"Because...I still love you, Alexis. No matter what has happened...or who you are, or who you might become...I love you," Finn told her and then held her wand out for her to take.

Lex slowly took the wand, debating if she should stun Finn while he was focused on unlocking the lock on her cell. In the end, she couldn't bring herself to do it.

Once the cell was unlocked Finn looked up at Lex. "Wait five minutes before you leave...let me get out of here first."

Lex nodded slowly, not sure if she should thank Finn or hex him as his lips curled into a sad smile. Without a word, he turned and left done the hall in the opposite direction of the way he told her to go.

"You need to get out of here," Kingsley spoke back up once they were alone.

"I can't leave you here," Lex told him. She realized now that Kingsley wasn't a bad man, but the older Kingsley who had returned was nowhere near as kind as the one sitting in the cell with her. The older one was clearly scared of whatever he thought the prophecy contained and he was determined to sort it out.

"You have to," Younger Kingsley said.

"What if it's a trap?" Lex asked, looking down at her wand.

"So what if it is?" Kingsley asked her.

Lex thought for a moment. Kingsley was right. Who cared if it was a trap. She was probably going to die anyway down there, she might as well at least try to escape. She gave Kingsley nothing more than a simple nod and then moved out of the cell, in the direction Finn had told her to go, her wand raised.

Ron, Hermione, and Scorpius made their way back into the Ministry. By now, it was late and nearly everyone but a security guard, who didn't think it was strange that Ron and Hermione were at work after hours and so it made it fairly easy for Ron to lead the group down to the passage he knew led to the cells Draco had said Lex was in.

When they got to the door, Hermione put a hand out to stop Ron from opening the door. "Ron..."

Ron looked up at his pregnant wife, realizing that was the first word she had really spoken since being told Lex was their child. She still looked in shock, her brain trying to sort through the information she had just been given. Ron realized he needed to give her a moment.

"I...all of this..." Hermione wasn't even sure what to say. She was still in shock and disbelief at what Ron had told her, about who Lex was. She knew Ron would never lie to her but she also felt like it was unfathomable. She glanced down at her pregnant stomach, assuming Lex was the baby in there.

Ron seemed to understand what Hermione was trying to say. He gave her a soft smile.

"I know this is a lot to take in and I'm so sorry this is how you found out. But I promise...I'll explain it all to you once we get Lex out of here and somewhere safe...just trust me, alright?" Ron said.

Hermione took a deep breath, knowing that Ron was right, that regardless of what questions she had they needed to get Lex out of there. She nodded at her husband.

Ron gave a small smirk and then glanced back at Scorpius who was impatiently waiting behind the couple.

"It's dark down there...one way in and one way out...if we get separated-" Ron started.

"You worry about Mrs. Weasley," Scorpius said and then moved past Ron. He wasn't waiting anymore. He opened the door and pulled out his wand to light up the dark passageway.

Ron took Hermione's hand, his wand also drawn now. "Stay close to me...be ready for anything."

Hermione nodded, pulling out her own wand to let her husband know she was ready. Ron then helped her through the doorway, closing it behind the pair so that the cold, musty air of the dark tunnel hit their senses all at once.

Immediately Hermione felt like she was going to be sick, but she pushed the nausea down along with the confusion and anxiety that were all fighting to overwhelm her completely.

Lex moved slowly through the dark passageway. She had her wand drawn but let the few dim lanterns on the wall lit her way. The musty smell of the tunnel was familiar and she knew it was the way she had been brought down to the cells earlier when she had the bag over her head.

As Lex moved, she tried to stay focused. She felt dizzy and weak from the curse earlier and her cheek was still bleeding a bit. She just kept reminding herself she needed to get out, if she had any chance of telling her parents the truth, she needed to get to them no matter what.

Lex took a few more steps, wondering how much longer the passage was when suddenly an alarm rang through the hallway and the lowly lit lanterns suddenly burned brightly.

"Bloody hell..." She mumbled to herself.

Lex knew that could only mean one thing. They knew she had escaped. She quickly picked up her pace, as fast as her battered body would allow her to move, her wand drawn high now.

Ron, Hermione, and Scorpius had only been walking through the passageway for a few minutes when suddenly the sound of an alarm rang aggressively through the air. All three of them jumped at the nose and the tunnel immediately grew lighter as the lanterns up ahead burned bright.

"That can't be good..." Scorpius mumbled.

"It means someone broke out," Ron knew what the warning meant.

"Maybe it's Lex?" Scorpius was hopeful.

"Or a trap...we should get out of here," Ron said, focusing back on Hermione. If it was a trap, if anyone knew they were down there, then he needed to get Hermione to safety now. He knew it was important to save Lex but he couldn't do anything if they got caught and he certainly couldn't live with himself if he put Hermione in a situation where he couldn't save her.

"I'm not leaving-" Scorpius started, looking ahead done the tunnel. "Lex..."

"No, I understand but we've got to get out of here now...we can come back-" Ron said.

"No...Lex!" Scorpius was now completely looking over Ron's shoulder and moving to pass him causing both Ron and Hermione to follow Scorpius' gaze and they were shocked to see Lex slowly running toward them.

Ron and to blink twice and he and Hermione both stood frozen in place as Lex saw them and began to move as quickly she could toward them. Scorpius met her half way and scooped her up in a hug.

"What are you doing down here? You're going to get bloody killed," Lex tried to sound annoyed but the happiness and relief came through more as she hugged Scorpius.

"You're hurt," Scorpius concluded when he set her down.

"I'll survive," Lex then looked at her parents. She was relieved to see them both but also knew her mother, especially, didn't belong down there.

"We need to get out of here...Shell Cottage," Lex said as her eyes darted from her mother to father. Something in her mother's eyes was off though. It was as if Hermione was seeing Lex for the first time. She was studying her in an entirely new way.

"What?" Ron was confused, breaking Lex's focus on Hermione.

Hermione, on the other hand, did not take her eyes off of Lex for a second. Now, knowing who Lex really was, Hermione had no idea how she hadn't seen it sooner. The blue of Lex's eyes was familiar because it was the same blue as Ron's eyes. The curve of Lex's nose matched her own identically, of course people had said they looked alike. Hermione was in awe but also deeply confused and hurt why Lex was there and why no one had bothered to explain who she really was to Hermione until they had been forced to.

"Just trust me," Lex said, though she didn't even fully understand why. She was now trusting Finn and she wasn't even sure if that was the right thing to do.

Ron nodded after a moment. There had been a lot of people asking others for trust right now and so he just had to go with it. He took Hermione's hand and led the group back out of the tunnel. He could feel it in Hermione's touch, she was still in shock, maybe worse after seeing Lex, and her hand that wasn't holding Ron's never left her small baby bump.

After what felt like forever, they made it back to the Atrium of the Ministry. The alarm could not be heard there, making it all the more clear that the cells below the Ministry were not for most to know about.

Scorpius grabbed Lex as they continued to walk. She was moving far slower than he had ever seen her and he knew something was wrong.

"Lex, are you alright?" Scorpius said lowly, now wanting to concern the Weasley's as they were still all trying to make it to safety.

"Eh...little beating...little torture...we all survive," Lex smirked but her voice was loud enough to cause Ron and Hermione to turn back and look at her with concern.

"What happened?" Ron asked.

"Later..." Lex said. "Let's get out of here first."

"That will likely be harder than you think," Kingsley powerful voice came from behind them.

Lex, Scorpius, Hermione, and Ron all turned to see the older Kingsley along with Cormac and four other masked figures, all wands drawn on them.

"While we appreciate your attempt at leaving...you aren't going anywhere," Cormac spoke mostly to Lex.

Lex stepped in front of Ron, Hermione, and Scorpius. "Just...let them all go and I'll go back with you..."

"Lex!" Scorpius voice was sharp, wondering what she was doing.

"I'm fine," Lex assured him, taking a step forward.

"No...we don't need you to come with us, and there is no danger to them. We want Ron and Hermione to survive...but also to know the truth," Kingsley said, pulling the bright red prophecy out of his pocket, a protective glove holding it.

Lex looked up at the prophecy, wondering why Kingsley was showing it now and what his plan actually was. All she knew was she needed to get her hands on that prophecy, it was really the only thing that mattered.

"Lex...what you will become...what we think this prophecy will reveal is why we needed you to come back here and stop this...I didn't lie to you, this will save your family..." Kingsley said, twisting the words and story into something completely unrecognizable. None of it made sense to anyone standing there which was why Lex knew she needed to get her hands on the prophecy.

"Fine..." Lex stepped forward again. "It's my blood you need right?"

"The more the better," Cormac said.

"Lex, don't-" Ron started to move forward but Hermione would not let go of his hand. She still wasn't entirely sure what was going on and so there was no way she was about to risk Ron.

"It's alright..." Led turned back and gave Ron a simple nod before moving closer to Kingsley, her eyes locked on the glowing red prophecy until she was nearly next to him.

"If I do this...my family stays safe?" Lex asked.

"Thays always been our goal. Both of your parents are valuable to our community. Losing them was a tradgey," Kingsley said.

Hermione's hand tightened around Ron's as she heard Kingsley's words interpreting them to mean that something happened to her and Ron in the future.

"I'll need to hold it to show it, right?" Lex asked.

Again Kingsley nodded. This time he hesitated but eventually slowly lowered the prophecy to Lex's hand. All watched in anticipation to see if she could touch it without a glove, indicating it was indeed a prophecy related to her.

Lex slowly reached out and easily picked the prophecy up, almost in an anticlimactic manner. Nothing happened, she was just able to hold it with ease.

Hermione felt like she had been kicked in the stomach upon seeing Lex touch the prophecy. That made it real; it was truly real. Lex was her daughter.

"The blood needs to spill on it," Cormac concluded about the prophecy now that they had confirmed it was indeed about Lex. He drew a small knife and slowly moved forward.

Lex looked over at Cormac as he approached her. She squared her shoulders to him as if she were about to let him end her and then, she surprised him with a blast from the wand he didn't know she had.

Instantly, Cormac flew backwards, the knife falling out of his hand, somewhere in the dark and cold floor.

Kingsley raised his wand again but Lex was quicker and she had nothing to lose, she shot off a few more spells, knocking Kingsley and the other masked figures back while still holding onto the prophecy. As they charged at her again she was able to grab one of the masked figures, using them as a human shield to defend against any spells that were being shot at her. Finally, when she was certain the shield was dead, she threw the lifeless form into the crowd attacking her, knocking a few out. She then turned to Ron, Hermione, and Scorpius.

"Let's go!!" Lex roared, pushing her father forward to make him run.

Instantly, everything seemed to click for Ron and he began pulling Hermione through the hall.

Spells were being shot at them from all angles and Lex was taking up the rear, still clutching the prophecy as she also did her best to defend the group. There were a few spells that managed to hit her and she felt her ribs twist up with the impact of one, but none of it was enough to kill her.

The group quickly made their way out of the Ministry and when they reached the street above, Hermione took charge, grabbing all four and disapparating them to the one place Lex had been very specific about. Shell Cottage.
