Chapter 22

The group landed on the beach at Shell Cottage, and Hermione instantly had flashbacks of the last time she disapparated there in such a manner. It had been when she was tortured by Bellatrix, and the thought still caused a shiver to go down her spine.

This time, however, she landed much more gracefully, her hand firmly in Ron's as Scorpius and Lex landed in a heap next to them.

Once Hermione realized everyone was safe, she felt herself nearly go into shock. She had let everyone order her around and she had trusted Ron throughout the entire ordeal, but now she needed answers.

"Someone explain to me...what the hell is going on, right now!" Hermione heard herself but hardly recognized her own voice as her eyes locked with Lex.

Lex looked up in confusion, her eyes moving between Ron and Scorpius.

"We...we sorta told her who you were," Scorpius told Lex from his spot in the sand next to her.

"Oh...brilliant," Lex could tell Hermione was upset.

"Why are you here? Why did no one tell me anything?" Hermione's eyes darted between Lex and Ron.

"I mean...it's complicated...can we just get inside-" Lex started.

"If one more person tells me it's complicated and pushes off explaining this..." Hermione's words came out as a threat to Ron and Lex.

Lex couldn't help but smile. This was the mother she had missed; the feisty, bossy, and sometimes scary woman who would raise her with incredible morals. This was the version of Hermione that had died along with the rest of her family years ago.

Ron, however, swallowed hard. Now that they were all safe he realized just how angry Hermione would be about being kept in the dark for so long.

"For the record...I wanted to tell you sooner," Lex said as she slowly stood, trying her best to hide the sudden and immense pain she felt on one of her ribs. She casually glanced down to see her shirt was blood-soaked red on her right side. Something wasn't right. She lifted her shirt to see a massive wound running down the side of her ribs. She had not felt it earlier but she must have gotten hit by a spell at the Ministry.

"Look, Hermione...I'm sorry we didn't tell you earlier but the short of it is...Lex came back to save us...we thought by sorting out that prophecy..." Ron started, neither he nor Hermione noticing Lex's condition as both their thoughts whirled.

"Save us?" Hermione was confused.

"Yeah...he dies...you go crazy," Lex said through a tight lip, realizing she needed to get inside of Shell Cottage and take care of her injuries. She slowly began moving in the direction of the house.

"Die??" Hermione was not comprehending now as she looked back at Ron for answers.

"Apparently our family is attacked...only you and Lex make it," Ron said, his eyes drifting from Hermione to Lex, realizing she was injured.

"Can we do this inside, please?" Lex called out from ahead of the group now, causing Hermione to turn and see Lex moving away, holding her side with a trail of red blood in the sand.

"She's hurt..." Scorpius saw the blood as well and tried to run up to reach Lex who continue to push along, though she was starting to feel light-headed.

Scorpius barely reached her when she collapsed into the sand.

"Lex! No!" Scorpius threw himself down next to her, trying to gather her lifeless form. He was frantic, trying to wake her up. She was still breathing and that was all that mattered.

Ron and Hermione stood frozen, unsure what to do, suddenly their argument seeming unimportant.

"GET HER IN THE HOUSE!" A very familiar voice shouted from ahead.

All eyes turned to see Ginny running toward them, although something seemed off and Hermione immediately noticed it. This Ginny was not pregnant, and this Ginny's hair was streaked with grey. This Ginny was far older.

This version of Ginny also reached Lex faster then anyone could imagine and by the time she was next to her, Ron noticed a very clearly older version of Harry also coming out of Shell Cottage.

"What in the..." Ron mumbled, clearly expressing the shock both he and Hermione felt. It was as if everything was moving too fast and too slow all at once.

Ginny was down, over Lex, smoothing her hair out in a way that reminded Hermione so much of Mrs. Weasley.

"She's hurt...I don't know where she's bleeding from," Scorpius told Ginny. He recognized her immediately as the Ginny Potter from the future, Rose and Lex's aunt.

Ginny examined Lex's side and saw the blood soaking through her clothes. "Get her inside, we need to patch her up...it's a lot of blood."

Scorpius nodded and stood, gathering Lex in his arms and moving as quickly as he could towards the house right past the older version of Harry.

Ginny also moved past Harry and gave him a quick pat on the chest as if to indicate he needed to go talk to Ron and Hermione while she followed Scorpious inside.

The older Harry watched his wife for a moment and then did make his way towards Ron and Hermione, who were both still standing motionless yards down the beach.

"Uh...hi..." Harry said when he got up to the younger version of his friends. He was overwhelmed, seeing them both. To see Ron alive was amazing and to see Hermione with such life in her eyes made him want to cry. These were the friends he remembered, and these were the friends he missed so dearly.

"I know who you are but...who are you?" Ron finally spoke, his question so loaded it made Harry smirk a bit.

"I'm...Harry from...well from where Lex is from," Harry said.

"From the future too?" Hermione practically rolled her eyes. "How many of you came back?"

Harry smiled a little at Hermione and the tone in her voice. He had missed it so much. "Originally...just Lex and Scorpius but...things are more complicated than we thought."

"Well that's bloody obvious," Ron said sarcastically.

"Wait, Scorpius is from the future too?" Hermione looked at Ron.

"Malfoy..." Ron shook his head.

Hermione's eyes grew wide at that realization as well as she tried to figure out why they were getting help from a Malfoy.

Harry glanced down and noticed Hermione's small, pregnant stomach, knowing exactly where they were in the timeline. He knew they had more time than he had been counting on which was a relief. He had a lot to fill the group in on if they were going to correct anything.

"I think it's best we go sort this out inside. There's a lot of information we need to share." Harry said.

Hermione took a deep breath and then nodded, realizing she wasn't going to get the answers she was seeking unless everyone was calm and also seeing Ron was looking for some answers from this future Harry.

By the time Ron, Hermione, and the older Harry made it into Shell Cottage, Ginny had already gotten Lex situated on the couch. She stood when the younger version of her brother and sister-in-law as well as her husband entered and joined them in the kitchen. Scorpius, however, stayed in the sitting room with Lex who was asleep, his hand firmly wrapped in her limp one.

"She had a fractured rib and was bleeding some what appeared to be a spell...the cut was deep but I think we managed to stop the bleeding," Ginny said, wiping some of the blood off her hands with a towel.

"Is...is she alright?" Hermione heard herself asking. She was so unsure or what to think about everything but something in her made her feel overly concerned for Lex. It was as if her body was reacting to the news of being Lex's mother before her brain could rationalize it.

"Nothing she hasn't had to handle before," Harry said a bit nervously about his niece.

Ginny nodded and then focused her eyes on Ron and Hermione. It was bizarre to see her brother alive again, and Ginny couldn't help herself. She flung herself into Ron's arms, surprising him.

"I've missed you so much," Ginny's voice was barely more than a whisper.

Ron wasn't sure what to do but he understood why his sister was acting like that. He knew in the future Ginny had come from he was no longer alive. He could only imagine what it felt like, thinking of he would react if he could see Fred one last time. This had to be the same for Ginny.

"Can someone please tell me what is going on?" Hermione asked again, so confused by Ginny's behavior toward Ron, the fact that clearly her friends and daughter had come from the future to stop something, and the words Lex had said outside about Ron dying.

Ginny let go of Ron, also confused, her eyes darting to Scorpius for answers. "What do they know?"

Scorpius sighed and reluctantly left Lex's side and moved into the kitchen. "He knows about everything...she knows next to nothing. We only just told her Lex was her daughter."

Hermione looked down at her baby bump, which she assumed held Lex and then back at Ginny. "Yes...it's a bit overwhelming."

Ginny nodded slowly and looked to Harry. "Well...they all need to know everything but the question is, do we wait for Lex to wake up? She deserves to hear it too."

Harry nodded.

Now Ron knew how Hermione felt. Whatever Harry and Ginny had come back to tell them, he was now in the dark as well, and it felt awful. Suddenly, he felt terrible for not telling Hermione the truth from the start.

"Look...tell us the basics here..." Ron pushed. "I mean...why did you come back here?"

"How did you get back here? How did any of you? The time turners were all destroyed," Hermione cut Ron off.

"Well...not all of them...though I thought there was just the one that sent Lex and I back," Scorpius said, looking at Harry now.

Harry sighed. "So did I...turns out I was rather misinformed."

"What do you mean?" Hermione asked.

"Well...the Ministry saved a few of them. The one that Lex and Scorpius came back with was the only one I was aware of but then...well apparently Kingsley used one and then Cho gave one to Ginny and I once we found everything out," Harry explained, more to Scorpius then anyone else.

Scorpius nodded understanding, but Hermione definitely didn't.

"What does Cho Chang have to do with this?" Hermione asked.

"She's...our Minister of Magic," Harry said slowly.

Hermione shook her head in disbelief. Cho certainly didn't seem like Minister of Magic material in her eyes. She liked her enough but she never seemed that assertive in Hermione's eyes.

"What did you find out?" Ron asked, turning Hermione's attention back to Harry.

"Bloody hell...loads of things." Ginny snorted, her arms crossed over her chest. "I think it's best we wait until Lex wakes up though to hear it all. This is all already complicated."

"Fine by me. I don't think I can take another thing," Scorpius sighed, leaning back against the kitchen counter.

Ginny and Harry looked at each other and Hermione and Ron both recognized that look between the couple. There was more to it.

"What else are you not telling us?" Ron asked.

"Well...we had some help getting back here...and I'd imagine you all may not be thrilled by who...but if he hadn't helped we wouldn't have even known to come back..."Harry said cryptically.

"Who?" Scorpius pushed, not liking the way Harry was speaking.

"Me..." The familiar voice made Scorpius' skin crawl with confirmation that he had been right all along.

The group looked up to follow the voice and Hermione and Ron were confused by the young blonde man who walked into the kitchen, but Scorpius was not confused, he was angry. Scorpius' fist balled up as he took a step closer to the other young man, his jaw clenched.

"McLaggen..." Scorpius barely got the name out before lunging at Finn unsure if he wanted to kill him or just hurt him badly. Seeing him confirmed who Scorpius had known. Finn McLaggen had been in the Department of Mysteries. Scorpius had identified the wand correctly.
