Time for the trial with J's new main rival prosecutor, hope you like it

DM77's Ace Attorney Justice for All Chapter 8

Magma Admin Prosecutor

June 21, 9:48 AM, District Court, Defendant Lobby No. 3

J was in the lobby awaiting the trial with Jaden and in the meantime, she filled him in on what she is learned, mainly on who the prosecutor for this trial will be.

"WHAAAAAAT?!" Jaden said in shock "Prosecutor Whittabane?! You mean…?"

"No, I heard it's his successor this time…" J said shaking her head.

"Succesor…?" Jaden said hearing that then looks sad "…Belos...was a really sinister man. He pulled all sorts of nasty tricks; all so he could win."

J closes her eyes and thinks to herself 'He was a man obsessed with the word 'perfection'…' She recalls Belos' image 'He had a perfect record for forty long years. Who knows what sorts of dirty tricks he used to get each of those guilty verdicts? And now, his successor…I wonder what kind of person they will turn out to be…'

As J opens her eyes, Jaden was looking sad as he said "It's no good…"

"Master Jaden!" A familiar voice called out revealed to be Kairi.

"Kairily!" Jaden said in surprise and smiles happily "You showed up! Thanks for coming all this way!"

"I was really worried about you…" Kairi said sadly.

"Hey, where's your father?" Jaden asked her "Didn't you two come together?"

"Father is watching over the trainees." Kairi explained "He said they have training for two days straight with no breaks."

"Huh?! Then…Then…You came all by yourself?" Jaden said in shock.

"Yup! I snuck out of the manor and followed a map." Kairi said with a firm nod.

"Don't tell me you walked all the way here…" J said in disbelief.

"Of course not!...I ran!" Kairi replied

"That's….I can't…Oh my…" J said trying to process this and thinks 'If it takes two hours by train…Oh man…'

"Kairily…What about the train?" Jaden asked concerned.

"Huh? What's a…. 'tray-in'?" Kairi asked smiling.

'I give up…' J said looking down

"…It's time, isn't it?" Kairi asked the two

"Um….I'm really scared…What if this new Belos tries to do something to me?" Jaden said worried "At least I know Mr. Deamonne would be nicer to me then Whittabane!"

"Mr. De-moan-ne? Who is that?" Kairi asked confused.

"Um, he's J's rival…Well, he's also a friend." Jaden said with a smile

"Objection!" Hunter then said as a flashback happens of Hunter in the courtoom. Him doing his pointing when pointing out a problem

"I still remember him as though I'd seen him only yesterday." Present Jaden said with a smile

"Objection!" J in the flashback said as it was of one of their fierce court battles. She slams her hands on the bench and does her trademark pointing pose

"Every trial was a scorchingly fierce battle until the very end." Jaden continues to explain

We return to the present as the objections play out as Jaden says smiling "It was always back and forth with them. But when you're rivals for life…"

"Jaden!" J yells out as she was looking down her eyes darkened as her hands were clenched "Please don't mention that name ever again…"

"Huh…? But why, J?" Jaden asked confused.

J calms down and said "I'm…I'm sorry, Jaden. I forgot you don't know…He…He's…He's gone…And he's not coming back…"

"Whaaaat?!" Jaden said in shock. "W-W-Wait…Wait a second! What's that supposed to mean?!"

At that moment the Purge Trooper Belief comes in and announces "Court will commence shortly. Please proceed into the courtroom."

J looks solemn and said "Let's go. Now's not the time to talk about that anyway."

Jaden could see the pain and sadness in J's LED eyes and said "…J?" With that they head into the courtroom

June 21, 10:00 AM, District Court, Courtroom No. 2

J took her spot in the Defence bench as Maccadam at his usual spot, escorting in by two Law Troopers was the Prosecutor. She was a purple haired young girl in a red long-sleeved dress with a red sleeveless hooded coat with an M logo on it and yellow horns and also red gauntlet gloves. She also hot red knee high boots. Also with her that stands by hersaid was a Pokemon, a orange furry cow with volcano like humps, J knows it's a Camerupt

Maccadam bangs his gavel to silence the audience and said "Court is now in session for the trial of Jaden Yuki. Are the prosecution and the defence prepared?"

The purple haired prosecutor remained silent arms crossed similar to how Belos had his. J sweat dropping thinks 'What is with this kid…?'

Macadam clears his throat and said "Miss. J! Are you prepared?!"

"Huh?" J said confused then snaps out of it and said "A-Ah, yes, Your Honor." She then thinks 'Why does he always seem mad at me?!'

"Miss. Serial Designation J." The female prosecutor said in a bit of a monotone voice surprising J. "You must be a bit shocked I am vastly different from my father, correct?"

'…Hold on. So SHE'S the famed 'successor' to Belos…?' J thinks on it.

"I am Courtney Whittabane, the Prodigy and titled the Magma Admin Prosecutor." The female Prosecutor introduced herself. "This is my loyal partner Camerupt, here to show support to me." She pets the Pokemon.

"I…see…" J said sweat dropping.

"I gave up a promising career in Hoenn and came to this country for one sole reason." Courtney explained and pulls out a whip and held in her hand as she said "Revenge."

"Revenge…?" J asked surprised and thinks 'Is this about her father, Emperor Belos…?'

"Um…If it's something of a personal nature, I'm sure you can…" Maccadam speaks up only to be whipped "Oww!"

"I'm talking." Courtney told him and whips her bench and holds it at the ready "If you interrupt again, my whip will do the speaking for me."

'Please speak with your mouth like a normal person…I beg of you…' J thinks sweating but is then whipped "Yeow!"

"Make no mistake; I will defeat you!" Courtney told J firmly "Prepare to go down, Miss. Serial Designation J!"

Maccadam slams his gavel down and said "Prosecutor Whittabane, you opening statement, please…"

"Those of the Whittabane blood have only one fate." Courtney said firmly "And that is 'perfection'. The defendant, Jaden Yuki, will find no escape from his guilt on my watch."

"V-Very well…" Maccadam said to that and looks at J "What is the defence's position?"

"Your Honor." J said looking at him

"Does the defence wish to enter a plea of 'not guilty'?" Maccadam asked her.

"…Yes." J said nodding.

"Foolish fool who foolishly dreams of foolish dreams…" Courtney said shaking her head "Ten minutes. I give the defence ten minutes before it changes its plea." She grins and held out he rhand "That's right. I'll have you running for the 'justified self-defence' plea in no time."

''Justified self-defence'…' J thinks and recounts her legal knowledge on this subject 'A plea usually reserved for when a person unintentionally kills in defence of themselves. We could very easily make a solid case that it was self-defence, but…' She then said "The defence stands by the plea of 'not guilty'. Your Honor!" She then thinks 'Because to plead 'justified self-defence' is to say you did kill someone.'

Coutney does a curtsey like bow and just said "How foolish. If that's how you want to play it, Miss. Serial Designation J, then I shall now call the first witness."

'With that monotone voice she's just as scary as her father. Like father, like daughter, I suppose.' J thinks sweat dropping.

The first witness who stands on the witness stand that rises up was Detective N. Courtney then asked him "Witness, your name and occupation?"

"Yes, sir! My name is Serial Designation N. I'm a detective at the local precinct." N said in response only to be whipped "Aah!"

"Get to the point already." Courtney told him whip at the ready she puts it down and said "Explain to the court the details of this murder."

"Y-Yes, sir! Um, if everyone would please look at this map." N said and draws everyone's attention to the monitors which shows a map of the Channeling Chamber. N explained "The Channeling Chamber has no windows and the door was locked shut. At the time of the murder, only the victim and the defendant were in the room." He place two tokens on the map a blue one with the letter V on it and a red on with the letter K on it.

"What were they doing in there?" Maccadam asked N.

"Um…They…Well, they were channeling…a spirit…Sir." N said looking down.

"Ch-Channeling a spirit?" Maccadam asked surprised.

'That's quite the look of disbelief there, Your Honor…' J thinks sweat dropping.

N clears his throut and continued "Anyway, a few minutes after the channeling started, gunshots were heard coming from inside the room, sir." He adds two green tokens to the map "A few of the witnesses broke the door down, and rushed into the room."

"Ah, and that's when they found that the victim was already dead, correct?" Maccadam asked. He then shakes his head and said "Hmm, I believe this is one of the most open and shut cases I have ever presided over." He adds the Floor Plans (Crime Scene) to the Court Record. "So, how was the victim killed?"

"I was about to get to that…" N said to him.

"Stop wasting my time, then." Courtney told N.

N gives his testimony on the 'Cause of Death' saying "The direct cause of death was a pistol shot to the forehead, sir. The shot was fired from point-blank range. But before the victim was shot, sir, he was stabbed in the chest. The wound was very severe, but not enough to cause instantaneous death. The murderer used the pistol to finish the victim off after the stabbing."

"Hmmm…" Maccadam said processing this "So the victim was stabbed before being shot…"

N holds up a file saying "This is the victim's autopsy report, sir." Soon Dr. Strange's Autopsy Report was added to the Court Record.

"The court accepts it into evidence." Maccadam said nodding "Miss. J, you may question the witness."

J nods beginning her cross examination starting with the first statement about the direct cause of death asking "Hold it! The murder weapon, Detective N. Whose pistol was it?"

"It was the victim's." N said in response showing said pistol.

"The victim? Now, why would he have…" J said thinking.

"Objection!" Courtney called out and said "'Why would have a pistol?' Who cares? The point that you are missing is whose fingerprints are on that pistol. If you're not already paying attiontion to that, then I suggest you start."

"Fingerprints? There were fingerprints?" Maccadam asked surprised.

"Along with the victim's, the defendant, Jaden Yuku's werealso on the grip, sir." N said sadly.

This makes the audience murmur in surprise and Maccadam bangs his gavel "Hmm. So, the defendant's fingerprients were left on the murder weapon…"

'Argh….! I walked right into her hands there.' J thinks annoyed. She next presses the following statement about it being point blank saying "Hold it! Point blank, huh? So about how far away is that?"

"It's anywhere between 12 to 20 inches away." N explains.

"And how do you know he was shot at point blank?" J asked.

"Tsk, tsk, tsk. Miss Serial Designation J." Courtney said wagging her finger. "I grow tired of the foolish foolery of the foolish fools of this foolish country…"

"E-Excuse me?!" J said to that.

"Gunpowerder burn." Courtney said simply.

"…Gunpowder burn?" J asked confused.

"When something is shot from point blank, a burn area is left around the bullet hole." Courtney explained.

"Gunpowder exploding is what makes a bullet fire, and that gets real hot, buddy." N adds on to the explanation. "And there were definitely some gunpowder burns left on the victim's forehead!"

'Wow…Never knew that…Live and learn, I guess…' J thought happy to learn something new today. She presses the third statement about the victim was stabbed as well asking "Hold it! Stabbed…And what was he stabbed with?"

N holds up a evidence bag with a bloody knife and said "A fruit knife."

"I see. And whose knife was it?" Maccadam asked.

"It looks like it belongs to the Yukis, sir." N said to that. "And of course, Jaden Yuki's fingerprints are all over it."

"Hmmm…All over it, huh?" Maccadam said thinking

'Urk. This does not look good….' J think sweating.

Courtney smiles and said "Ha, ha, ha. What will you do now, Miss. Serial Designation J?"

J moves on to the next statement about how the stab was severe but not enough to kill the victim saying "Hold it! How severe was the wound?"

"If it had been half an inch more to the right, it would've hit the victim's heart." N explains "After a stab like that, it's impossible to fight back, let alone stand."

'This testimony makes it sound like Jaden had stabbed him with the intent to kill…' J thinks on it. She presses the final statement about the murderer using the pistol to finish the victim saying "Hold it! Are you sure he was stabbed first, then shot?"

"Yup. Sure, as sure can be." N said smiling. "One look at the wounds and you'd come to the same conclusion too, buddy."

"A fool is a fool who will only listen to the foolish opinions of other foolish fools…" Courtney said to that. "A pistol shot to the forehead at point blank is certainly enough to kill instantly. Does it matter, then, which was first?" She readies her whip "Think a little more before you open that big mouth of yours, Miss. Serial Designation J!"

'Grr…What a pain…' J thinks sweat dropping

Maccadam bangs his gavel and said "That's enough! We have clearly established how the victim was murdered."

"As you saw I brought the two murder weapons with me today." N said showing the weapons.

"Very well. The court accepts them into evidence." Maccadam said nodding and both the Pistol and Knife were added to the court record.

"The date and time of death was June 19th at 3:15 PM." Courtney states "Eyewitnesses claim to have heard two gunshots at this time."

"And two murder weapons both with the defendant's fingerprints on them, huh…" Maccadam said thinking "Hmmm…This does seem like an open and shut case."

Courtney smiles and bows saying "Naturally!"

'This is going from bad to worse…' J thinks sweating 'As if the summery just now wasn't oversimplifying things to the extrme…'

"Your Honor. Feel free to slam that little gavel of yours." Courtney said with a smile holding her hand out. "After all, there is no room left for doubt is there?"

Maccadam nods "That is quite true…Miss. J."

"Y-Yes?" J said nervous.

"Even in the face of all this, do you still wish to please 'not guilty'?" Maccadam asked her. "It's the opinion of this court that if you do not adjust your plea, you stand to lose."

"See, just as I promised, Miss. Serial Designation J." Courtney said smiling wagging her finger "You would change your plea in less than ten minutes…"

"What will you do, Miss. J?" Maccadam asked her. "Will you change to 'justified self-defence'? Because now would be the time to do so. This is your final chance."

'This is a huge decision! I'd better think this through all the way!' J thinks on it. 'If we plead 'justified self-defence'…we would basically be confessing to murder! After the trail, Jaden's life would be ruined, and he'd be labeled a murderer…I can't let that happen!' She slams her hands on the bench and said "Your Honor!"

"Have you reached a conclusion, Miss. J?" Maccadam asked.

"The defence will no change its plea." J said looking firmly and then points adding "We will accept nothing short of complete acquittal!"

Courtney then uses her whip and said with a hint of annoyance in her voice "…You. You have sealed your fate, Miss. Serial Designation J. Detective!"

"Y-Yes, sir!" N said standing at attention.

"Present the final portion of your testimony the final strike" Courtney told him.

"Um…Y-Yes….sir…" N said looking down.

"N-Now, see here! Proceedings are run by…" Maccadam protested only to be whipped "Eek!" He looks to see Courtney ready to whip again and said "Oh, yes, of course. Go ahead Detective and give your testimony…"

"I think the court would like to hear about the other piece of incriminating evidence!" Courtney said smiling.

N sighs and give his testimony on the 'Incriminating Evidence' saying "Sorry, buddy, but there's an even more incriminating piece of evidence." He holds out a red jacker that had darker stains of blood "This is the jacket the defendant was wearing at the time of the crime. As uou can see, it's covered in blood. The defendant attacked and killed a person who, without a doubt, was not fighting back."

"So this is the costume…" Maccadam asked as his Purge Trooper bailiff hands it to him. "There certainly is evidence of a back spray of blood on this."

"This piece directly links Jaden Yuki to the crime, sir." N said sadly.

"I see…The court accepts this into evidence." Maccadam said nodding and Jaden's Jacket was added to the Court Record. "Alright, Miss. J."

'Jaden's fingerprints on both murder weapons and blood splatters on his clothes…' J thinks on it 'Could this situation get any worse?'

"Hah. What's wrong? You seem to be at a loss." Courtney asked grinning "I think this is the last piece of testimony the prosecution should have to offer. Feel free to sulk off with your tail between your legs, Miss. Serial Designation J!"

'Please stop calling me by my full name. It's disturbing.' J thinks sweat dropping and begins cross examination pressing the first statement about the piece of evidence. J slamming her hands on the desk saying "Hold it! Why didn't you say so in your testimony earlier?!" She glares at N

"Uh…. You're kind of scary today, you know, buddy?" N said a bit nervous

"Come now, Miss. J…There is no need for that kind of attitude in my court…" Maccadam said firmly but J only has an intense stare intimidating the judge "A-Alright. Just, please stop glaring at me like that…"

J then presses the third statement about the jacket being covered in blood saying "Hold it! This blood on the jacket…"

"Lab results show that it is the victim's blood." N said sadly.

This made the audience murmur in surprise and Maccadam bangs his gavel to quiet them down and he said "Hmmm…So there is blood from the victim on the defendant's clothes."

'Defiantly not good…' J thinks sweating then said "So, were there any other clues you cold gleam from this piece of evidence?"

"Um, well…" N said thinking.

"Objection!" Courtney said then adds "If you must change the topic, then the good detective here must testify again. But too bad. Not enough time. Let's move on."

"Ah, yes, Miss. Whittabane is perfectly correct…" Maccadam said with a nod.

'Grr…Now even Maccadam is on her side! But if I bite off more than I can chew here…' J thinks annoyed but chooses to press further thinking 'Why is Miss. Whittabane suddenly putting up resistance? There must be a reason as to why she threw out an objection like that…' She looks at the jacket's image and thinks 'There must be something about this jacket…! I just have to look harder!'

"Miss J." Maccadam said firmly "Miss. Whittabane's logic is perfect. There is no way for you to poke a hole in it.

'Argh! Looks like my time is up. So, about the costume…' J thinks looking at it but then sees something odd about it and said slamming her hands now "Your Honor. Actually, there is something very wrong with this piece of evidence."

"Wh-What?!" Maccadam said surprised.

"What are you talking about, buddy?!" N asked asked surprised. Courtney holds her whip and remains silent.

"Wh-Where is this problem are you talking about?!" Maccadam asked J.

'I've come this far…There's no turning back now!' J said and brings up the image of the jacket "The problem is right here." She then points to the hole that was in the jacket. "Take that! I ask the court to please take a look at the sleeve of the jacket."

"The sleeve?" Maccadam said confused and looks at it and optics widen "There is a tiny hole here…"

"…A…A hole…? But that wasn't in the report." N said sadly.

"Hold on!" Maccadam said surprised "What's this around the hole? Scans detect it faintly matches that of gunpowder!"

"G-Gunpowder?! No one ever told me!" N said getting angry.

"A hole that smells of gunpowder…" Maccadam said thinking on it.

'It looks like I've found the 'hole' I was looking for!' J thinks on it and slams her hand down and said "Your Honor, the only logical conclusion you can make is that it must be a bullet hole!"

The members of the court murmur in surprise loudly and Maccadam bangs his gavel saying "Order! Order! Order! This is a very grave matter. It's best we correct the Court Record first before anything else." He then updates the entry of Jaden's Jacket with the new info.

"Sorry about that. I guess we messed up, sir." N said looking down.

J however sees Courtney isn't at all phased by this but sees her smiling and waving her finger 'I-Is she actually…smiling?! What else is she hiding?!'

"Pull yourself together, Detective." Courtney said to N "That tiny 'hole' doesn't change a thing. The strength of the evidence still holds. Continue with your testimony. That, just now, was a fluke. Nothing more."

"Objection!" J calls out and said pointing "H-How can you say something like that?! This is a huge oversight!"

"While I agree it is a mistake on the part of the police troopers, what Prosecutor Whittabane has said is true. The evidence still stand." Maccadam said shaking his head. "If you do not find a more definitive problem with the evidence, then…"

"No way!" J said shocked.

"Detective N, please continue with your testimony." Maccadam said.

"Yes sir." N said sadly

So, the testimony continues but with this new info, it ironically blows a hole in the last statement about the victim not fight back so said "Objection! Detective Serial Designation N!"

"Y-Yes?" N asked nervous but chuckles saying "Heh, having you call me by my full name is kind of a weird feeling…"

"You said that my client killed 'a person who, without a doubt, was not fighting back.'" J said to him.

"Yeah, I did." N said smiling.

"Then what, may I ask, is the bullet hole you police troopers overlooked supposed to mean?!" J asked him showing the image of Jaden's bloody jacket with the hole in the sleeve.

"Eh, um…What does it mean?" N asked thinking.

"I'll tell you what it means." J said to him and said "It means that the victim had fired off a shot." She slams her hands on the desk and points at N "is this what it means to 'not fight back'?"

"A-Ah! You're right!" N said in realization.

"It seems you are correct!" Maccadam said in surprise "If the victim had tried to shoot the defendant, then…it would change everything…"

'Alright! The wind seems to be shifting…' J thinks smiling proud.

"Hah." Courtney said petting Camerupt barely phased.

'What's with that 'are you finished yet' laugh?' J thinks sweatdropping.

"Are you finished yet, Miss. Serial Designation J?" Courtney asked her.

"Miss. Whittabane?" Maccadam asked confused.

"It seems…that Jaden Yuki was shot at by the victim." Courtney said smiling scratching Camerupt behind the ears "However, that is only grounds enough to support a 'justified self-defence' plea."

"That is correct." Maccadam said nodding.

"But I'm sure you remember, Your Honor, what the defence clearly said." Courtney tells the judge "They rejected 'justified self-defence' and pleaded 'not guilty.'"

"Ack!" J said in shock at that.

"Now what you mention it…" N said thinking

"Why, that's right!" Maccadam said nodding.

Courtney whips her bench and said "Which means! The defence has yet to prove anything at all!"

"Noooo!" J cried out sweating.

"W-Well…Yes, that's ture…" Maccadam said nodding.

"Furthermore…" Courtney said doing her curtsey bow before continuing "just the fact that there is a bullet hole in the jacket…is not enough to substantiate even a plea of 'justified self-defence'."

"Huh? How so?" Maccadam asked.

"Aaaah!" N cries out as Courtney whips him.

"Don't just stand there. Hurry up and tell the court what transpired that day." Courtney ordered N. "…With the new information we acquired added in, of course."

"Huh? You mean…By myself…?" N asked sadly. "You want me to put together the scenario all by myself?" He is then whipped "Ack!" He sees Courtney glaring and said "Y-Yes, sir! Right away, sir!"

N then gives his testimony on 'What Transpired' saying "During the channeling, the defendant saw his chance to saw his chance to stab the victim in the chest. Of course, the victim used the last of his strength to fight back, sir. While the two were fighting, the victim took out his gun. The victim took a shot, but because they were too close, he missed. The defendant then picked up on the opening, took the victim's gun, and ended it…"

"Hmmm…This scenario you have put together does make sense…" Maccadam said thinking.

"Yes, sir." N said smiling proud.

"Well, Miss. J?" Maccadam asked for her opinion.

'On the surface, it does seem to make sense…' J thinks on it 'However, I won't give up that easily!'

"P-Please refrain from glaring at me like that…" Maccadam said nervous at J's intense stare. "Now then, your cross-examination, please."

J presses the first statement about Jaden attack Strange and said "Hold it! There is quite a difference in height between Dr. Strange and the defendant. Add in body strength and it seems unlikely the defendant could have stabbed the victim!"

"Now that you mention it…Yeah I guess…" N said thinking

"Objection!" Courtney said and added "You think you can get away with such flimsy reasoning? Miss. Serial Designation J! Jaden Yuki was in the middle of channeling, was he not?" J looks at Courtney in confusion and surprise as the prosecutor continued "When channeling with the Keyblade Channeling Technique, the warrior physicially changes. With the nurse's build and add on she was an athlete in highschool, the defendant could have easily been a match for the doctor." She smiles confidently.

'I don't believe it…She even studied up on the Keyblade Channeling Technique!' J thinks staring at Courtney a bit impressed.

Courtney whips her whip on her bench and readies it saying "Like I said before…I am perfect."

"Um…Uh…About what you were talking about…I didn't quite get it…" Maccadam said confused but seeing J and Courtney intently stare at each other just said "Um, n-never mind. Let's continue with the testimony…"

J presses the third statement saying "Hold it! Where in the world did that pistol come from?"

"It looks like the victim, Dr. Strange, had specifically bought it for that day." N explains

"But a handgun…?" J asked.

"He got it off the black market about 2 days before the murder." N adds.

'Why did Dr. Strange bring a gun…? Was he taking precautions against something…?' J thinks on it and then sees something off between the testimony and evidence present Jaden's jacket on the fourth statement about the victim taking the shot saying "Objection! Missing the tiny hole on this jacket…will be the prosecution's undoing." She smiles.

"Eh? What do you mean?" N asked confused.

"This little hole has actually created a huge hole in your testimony!" J states firmly.

Maccadam bangs his gavel and said "E-Explain yourself, Miss. J!"

"You said the two of them were fighting when the victim fired his gun at point blank." J explains to the court "If that were true, then where is the gunpowder burn on this jacket?!"

"G-Gunpowder…burn?" N said confused.

J then explained "This is what you testified earlier: 'When something is shot from point blank, a burn area is left around the bullet hole.'"

"OH!" N said remembering.

"But there is not a single trace of gunpowder burn on this costume!" J points out. This made the audience chatter at this.

Maccadam bangs his gavel to silence them and said "That is a very good point. And…what exactly does this mean?"

"It means that when the shot was fired, they were standing apart from each other." J explained.

"Hmm…" Maccadam thinks on it.

"Objection!" Courtney lets out and said "I'm disappointed, Miss. Serial Designation J. You think you can punch a hole in my logic with that? With wishy-washy thinking like that, anyone can explain anything away!"

"Then I implore you to disprove my line of thinking" J said smiling proudly.

"Let's see…" Courtney said thinking "In the middle of their fight, the victim pushed the defendant away. And it was then, when they were separated, that he fired! How was that?"

"Objection!" J calls out and said smiling "As if that was even possible. According to testimony, the wound from the stabbing was very severe. The victim would not have had the strength to push the defendant very far after that!"

For the first time in this trial this phases Courtney as she winces holding herself, Camerupt nuzzles her in comfort. She said "W-Well…Then…" She then recovers "That's right! The defendant must have pushed the victim away! After stabbing him, he must have put some space between the doctor and himself. And then while he was preparing to strike again, the doctor took his shot. There. That should satisfy even you."

"Hmmm…That does make an awful lot of sense." Maccadam said nodding. "What do you think, Miss. J?"

'I must be careful. I can't afford to make a mistake here! Concentrate and think!' J thinks on this and finds something doesn't make sense. So she slams her hands on her bench and said pointing "There is a fatal flaw in her argument, Your Honor!"

"Fatal…?" N said to that.

"Flaw?" Maccadam said and is whipped "Aaaahhhh!"

"Very interesting." Courtney said readying his whip "I would love to see where this 'flaw' is! Show me something that contradicts my explanation!"

'There has to be a snag in her explanation somewhere!' J thinks on it ''She put some distance between them before rushing to make the final blow. And when she was about to strike, the doctor took his shot.' There must be a piece of evidence that contradicts this line of thinking!'

J checks the evidence and then sees the Folding Screen and gets ready to present it saying "Take that!" He shows the Folding Screen on the screens and said smiling "This is the piece of evidence that destroys your logic."

"What is that? A folding screen?" Maccadam asked looking at it.

"I would like to point the court's attention to the 'hole' in this folding screen" J points out to them.

"Aaaah!" Courtney lets out in shock at that.

"It looks like you already know what I'm talking about." J said with a smile.

"Who? Where? What?" N said confused.

"Miss. J! Your explanation, please!" Maccadam asked also confused.

'Are these two really that clueless…?' J thinks sweat dropping she then explains "The bullet went through the defendant's sleeve first, then the folding screen. It passed through at a height of approximately 8 inches off the ground…Which means!" She slams her hands down on the bench "When the shot was fired, Jaden…I mean, the defendant, was not getting ready to strike, but was actually squatting low to the ground!"

The audience chatter loudly at this and Maccadam bangs his gavel and said "Order! Order!" He then said "Th-This changes everything!"

"Please look at this diagram of the crime scene." J said bringing up the crime scene diagram "The victim was here when he fired the shot." She points to the folding screen "And the bullet hit this folding screen." She then places a small red dot at the bottom of the screen "It hit at this location, about 8 inches off the ground. At the time the defendant was in this area." She then indicates the area next to where the bullet hole was "Take that! She was standing here, neat the folding screen!"

"W-Wait a second!" Courtney said surprised "We know the defendant was close to the ground based on the height of the bullet hole. But…How can you gauge the distance from that?!" She glares slaming her fist on her bench. "Isn't it possible that the defendant was standing much closer to the victim?"

J shakes her said and said smiling "That's impossible."

"B-But why?!" Courtney asked.

"You, of all people, should know the answer to that question Miss. Whittabane. If he was somewhere close, there would be gunpowder burns present." J explained "However!" She slams her hands down and points "There is nothing of the sort around the bullet hole of this jacket!"

"Aaaaaaah!" Courtney winches and sweats as Camerupt comforts her "C-Curse you, Miss. Serial Designation J! You…!"

"Hmm…" Maccadam thinks on this and said "I believe it has now been proven that the defendant was standing a ways from the victim when he was shot at." He nods and adds "But do you this this has changed the defendant's situation…?"

J slams her hands down and said "Honestly, Your Honor! This changes everything! The prosecution has claimed that the defendant was aiming to kill by stabbing. If that were true, delivering the final strike with the knife would be ideal. However! Where and what was the defendant doing at the time…?"

"…Squatting all the way by the folding screen…?" N said thinking about it.

J nods smiling and said "Exactly. If Jaden Yuki was the real murderer, why would he be by the folding screen instead of preparing to strike?"

"Nnngh…" Courtney said to that.

"Upon further consideration, it does make very little sense." Maccadam admits.

"Yeah, I figured there had to be a reason." N said chuckling.

J slams her hands on the bench and said "Figuring things out and proving you logic behind everything is YOUR job!"

"Oof…" N said looking down.

'Alright! With this, the rest of the trial should be in the b…' J thinks proudly but then sees Courtney smiles wagging her finger while petting her Camerupt and that makes her sweat worried thinking '…blast radius of disaster.'

"You are such a smart drone, Miss. Serial Designation J." Courtney said with a smile. "To think that you've been able to take a completely hopeless case to this point…Now I know why father had a tough time with you. Mmm, you amuse me…"

'Uuuugh. Of all things to inherit, why did have to be that smarmy smile?! Though it is cuter on her face for some reason.' J thinks sweating

Courtney whips the bench and said "Detective. How dare you damage my perfect logic?!"

"H-Huh?!...How is it all my fault?" N asked confused

"You can start repairing your standing by first sorting that hairstyle." Courtney told him. "Oh, and rest assured your punishment will come later."

"…P-Punishment…" N asked nervous.

"Well then, Your Honor, I think I've had all I can take of this detectice's face." Courtney said to Maccadam. "I think it's time to call in the next witness."

'Next witness…? That's got to be Todd!' J thinks on it

Maccadam nods and said "Very well. The court will take a 5 minute recess. After we reconvene, we will hear from the next witness." He slams his gavel ending the trial for recess.

Well that was defiantly hard and Courtney isn't pulling punches, but got through the first part, just have to get through this testimony and the first day of trial will be cleared.
