Chapter 17

"What is it? Spit it out." Daki said. She was crouched down on the rooftop, looking at Tanjiro.

"You were once a human. Isn't that right? Which means you shed tears and suffered like any other normal human would." Tanjiro said.

Daki punched down onto the roof tiles in frustration. "Just when I thought you couldn't get any more annoying. Luckily I don't remember anything about the past."

"I'm a demon now, so who cares about my human past? Life is better like this. Us demons don't have to buy food or grow old... or get sick or die. We have nothing to lose."

"Not to mention, beautiful, powerful demons can do anything we want!"

"I see." Tanjiro said. "That's enough." As fast as lightning, Tanjiro rushed towards Daki.

"Blood Demon Art: Eight-Layered Obi Slash!" Daki created an eight-layered obi attack, hovering the belt of ribbons in front of her.

Let's see how an idiot like you stops an attack like this, a cross-blow leaving you with nowhere to run, using the parts of my body that were split off to take control of this area. Now that I'm whole again... my speed is in a class of its own.

Seeing as you could barely hold your own against my non-Blood Demon Art, it's all over for you.

So, hideous boy, I'm going to cut you and that decrepit sword into pieces.

Now then, I'll be making my way to that Hashira.

Just when she thought she could win this fight, Tanjiro easily sliced through her belt with ease. Hinokami Kagura: Burning Bones, Summer Sun.

This pain. What just happened? It feels like I've suffered burns where I received that slash, which means I can't regenerate.

But his wounds must be deep too. Making such violent motions should have instantly ruptured everything within his body.

Daki let out another single attack at Tanjiro and once again, Tanjiro cut through the ribbon with ease.

What? How is he able to slice my belt?

Again, another attack was released and Tanjiro blocked the attack.

Something's not right here. My fingertips... are trembling? This isn't like me.

Suddenly, Daki came to a realization.

Lord Muzan?

Daki continuously sent out attacks and Tanjiro kept repelling each one non-stop.

Damn it! Why is he faster than before? None of this makes any sense! Daki lauched herself into the air, moving away from Tanjiro.

Don't you feel any pain?!

Daki landed onto another rooftop and sent out her ribbons again. Are you human?

Tanjiro raced towards Daki, blocking her attacks once again. He landed in front of her and moved in closer, slicing his sword across her neck. But the sword didn't budge any further. Tanjiro's eyes widened slowly.

"As if someone like you could ever hope to decapitate a demon as strong as me." Daki said.

The reason why Tanjiro's sword didn't move any further is because Daki's neck was made out of the same cells as her belt was made out of, taking the form of her own belt.

It's soft... too soft for me to cut through. It was able to blunt my slash by bending.

Daki moved away from Tanjiro, sending more attacks straight to him. "I won't let you get away, you hideous, vile scum!"

There are more belts now, 13 of them. If I dodge them, they might wreck even more havoc.

Daki's belts seemed to move towards Tanjiro very slowly.

But for some reason... they're moving so slowly.

Tanjiro repealed each belt attack.

"Just try and cut me now. You can't! That last exchange of ours was nothing more than a fluke!"

Tanjiro continued attacking the belts in a specific pattern, until he managed to have all belts gathered in one place.

What? He gathered all of my belts in one spot.

Tanjiro plunged his sword into the belts.

"You think that's enough to stop me? It'll take more than that!"

The belt tightened, stretching out between Tanjiro and Daki

You might be able to pull them tight enough to cut through, but I can loosen them all again in the blink of an eye.

So unless you can close the distance between us faster than that, you-

Faster than lightning, Tanjiro sliced through all her belts, reaching to Daki.

What? He slashed them. Daki was shocked. He's fast.

Tanjiro's sword was inches away from Daki's neck. It's simple, really. I just had to bring my sword down faster than they could start bending. I can decapitate her this time. It's over.

Then the voice of Tanjiro's younger sister appeared in his mind. "Brother, please!"

Tanjiro froze, his arms shaking.

"Brother, please! You have to breathe! Hurry!" she told him.

Tanjiro inhaled and then fell on his knees, coughing.

Daki stared down at him.

"You humans never cease to amaze me with how pathetic you all are." she told him. "If that really was the best you could do, then I might actually be starting to feel a little bit bad for you."

I can't stop coughing. It's so hard to breathe. Which means I must've gone well beyond my stamina threshold.

My vision's going dark. All I can hear is the sound of my heartbeat.

"Since you're human, I'm afraid your wounds won't be healing anytime soon." Daki said. "Blame your own flesh and blood."

Tanjiro still continued to cough. Stand up. Wield your sword.

"But I'll do you a favor and show you how to decapitate your enemy."

Suddenly, Daki was kicked away from Tanjiro. Standing in front of her brother was none other than Nezuko, growling.

Images of her family being murdered entered into her mind, having small black lines appear around her eye.

"You have some nerve doing that!" Daki yelled at Nezuko. "Wait a second. That filthy traitor, it's you, isn't it?!"

"The one he was talking about has to be you!"

"Daki, there's a demon out there that managed to slip from my grasp." Muzan said to her. She had her head placed on Muzan's leg. "Just as Tamayo did."

"I need you to find and dispose of her." Muzan told her. "You're the only one I can turn to. It shouldn't be hard to recognize her. She'a a girl clad in a hemp-leaf pattern kimono and a checkered belt."

"Also, I am having Akaza join in the fray." Muzan said.

"Akaza?" Daki said, frowning.

"Yes. Just like you, I had another demon slip from me and I told him to find him. So please, pay him no mind. Just focus on the one I told you about."

"Akaza." Muzan said.

"Yes, Lord Muzan." Akaza appeared, bowing to him.

"Despite having Daki in the area, I want you to find the Hashira you turned. Find him and bring him to me." Muzan told him.

"Do that and I may move you up to a higher rank."

Akaza's eyes widened slightly and then said, "Yes, Lord Muzan."

"Lord Muzan... I will happily eviscerate this hideous little runt! Prepare to die, scum!" Daki said.

Tanjiro coughed once more and then he fell limp, unconscious. Nezuko rushed towards Daki, ready to kick Daki once again.

"Is kicking the only thing you know?" Daki slashed Nezuko, cutting her leg.

"You bottom feeder!" Daki screamed out. She sliced Nezuko again as she swung her around before releasing her into a building.

"Could you be any weaker? You've barely consumed any humans. It's a miracle you were able to escape Lord Muzan." Daki said as she landed next to the debris she created.

Nezuko was buried underneath the rumble, trying to get out.

"Aw, you poor thing! Your torso and lower body went their separate ways. I wouldn't try moving if I were you. After all, there's no way a half-developed demon like yourself could possibly regenerate. Quickly enough to continue fighting."

"But since we're both demons, I'll quit toying around with you, and instead I'll absorb you into my belt and expose you to the sun in the morning."

"Like I'd waste my time finishing you off when I have a Hashira to kill."

Nezuko stood up from the rumble.

Huh? What's going on? She's regenerated her leg. Never mind her leg. How is she able to stand? I'm sure I severed her in half. I saw it with my own eyes. There's no way I missed.

Then Nezuko regenerated her entire arm.

I didn't expect this. Daki stared in shock. Her healing and regeneration speed is on par with Upper Rank Demons.

Nezuko bit down on her bamboo muzzle, breaking it. She then transformed, leaf strand marks appearing on her body. She has become a fully fledged demon.

What is this intimidating presence that's radiating from her? Her whole demeanor changed.

Nezuko went to attack Daki but Daki sliced her, cutting off her limbs. But then Nezuko stomped down on Daki with such force. Daki was stunned.
