Chapter 3
10 hours before it all went wrong…
I woke up to Ponyboy shakin' me awake. I muttered a sleepy groan and tried to shield my eyes from the sunlight that crept through the blinds.
"Five more minutes…" I said, pulling the covers over my head. I am definitely not a morning person.
Ponyboy yanked the sheets off the bed and kept shaking me. "Wake up, Soda! Darry's already been up for half an hour and if he sees you still in bed, then you're gonna be in for it!" he said.
I groaned and realized he was right. I got up and walked to the bathroom. After I was done in there, I took a quick shower before Ponyboy, (so I can at least get some hot water.)
I got dressed and walked into the kitchen. Darry looked like he had semi-recovered from the late night, but Pony's eyes were bloodshot and he was pale. They didn't have the normal glint in them like they used to.
Something told me that he didn't fall asleep after all. I hope Darry wouldn't notice though, with Steve and Two-Bit coming over.
If there's one thing Ponyboy hates, it's when he gets embarrassed, especially in front of the gang, and I figured he wouldn't want Darry asking him what was wrong, so I decided to ask him after breakfast.
I sat down at the kitchen table and Darry placed a plate of blueberry pancakes, scrambled eggs, and bacon in front of me. He gave some to Ponyboy, and set the table for two more places, (Steve and Two-Bit.)
Darry sat down and started eating. I did too, but I looked to my right and saw that Pony's plate was still full.
"Are ya not hungry?" I asked him. He seemed to snap outta some sorta trance and blinked his eyes as if he was wonderin' how to respond to that.
"I'm fine, just a bit tired," he muttered.
"You had a nightmare last night, so I guess that's not hard to believe," I replied, though those last five words seemed to make him hacked off.
"What do you mean, 'I guess that's not hard to believe,' do you not think I'm tellin' the truth?!" he said, defiantly.
"It's not that, it just seems like there's more to it than just being tired! If you're tired, then you eat food to get more energy, but you haven't eaten a single thing."
Pony glared at me and I peeked at Darry, who suddenly became very interested in the table.
"Plus, you had a nightmare about Johnny and-"
"I'm fine, Soda! Just lay off!" he yelled, cutting me off. Darry stared in disbelief as Pony stormed off to the bathroom.
I looked back at Pony's plate, knowing that after what just happened, it was highly unlikely that he was gonna eat the rest of his breakfast.
Darry looked at me and sighed. "He'll be okay, Soda. Just give him time," Darry said, reassuring me that things would be better soon.
I sighed and put my empty plate in the sink. I turn into the living room and bump into Steve.
"Dang, that was tense," Steve said, smirking. Two-Bit snickers, standing next to Steve.
I rolled my eyes. No wonder. They heard our conversation, or rather, they heard Ponyboy's outburst.
"Breakfast is on the table, there's a plate for each of you," I said while putting on my shoes.
Two-Bit's eyes lit up. "Ooh! Are there seconds?" he asked eagerly.
I was gonna say no when I remembered Pony's plate sitting on the table, untouched. The thought made me shudder.
"There's an extra plate, I guess. Now hurry up Steve, we gotta be at work soon!" I said as Darry ushered Steve and Two-Bit into the kitchen. I hoped that today would be better than the morning.

Notes
Hello, I wrote this just a bit ago. I know it's really short, but I figured it would be okay since it was on the same day. Don't expect me to update this frequently, lol, this was a miracle for my procrastinating self. Also, thank you for reading this fanfic! It's my first and I'm glad you guys like it! Have a good day!
