Author's Notes: This has been a back-burner idea I have had for a while(thinking of turning it into a multiple-chapter story called "Blood in the Water"). But with my Isekai Kagome to torture and twist to my needs. I give you this snippet that has her being a brilliant Bish with a touch of some nostalgia from her 'past' life. And a bit of a side note - I checked the years based on the anime/manga and chose to do it after the time skip. So set in the year that will be listed. And is based on the year that Moriarty is born, so he is 27, Louis 26, Albert.
October 18th, 1982
"Trust me; I am not exactly happy about this either, Mr. Albert Moriarty. But it is what it is."
Green eyes stared at the petite raven-haired woman sitting on the other side of the low walnut desk.
"It is written very clearly. Please, read it and then respond."
The green eyes dropped to the old, yellow envelope before a long finger hand shifted to lift it. The only noise in the office was the steady ticking of the clock and the sound of paper being moved. The two people were silent as one read what was written. Their angular face grew pale as their green eyes widened when they were lifted and looked at the petite raven-haired woman whose pink lips were drawn into a slight frown.
"This is a marriage contract signed by her Royal Highness," A soft, timbre voice spoke in shock.
"Yes, I know. I just turned twenty, and it was delivered personally by one of her 'personal' guards," The tiny woman spoke. "I was aware she had made a promise to my father for something or another; hence I was raised under the watchful eyes of the royal guard. But this- this came as a shock, Mr. Albert Moriarty."
Those green eyes seemed to tremble under thin, chestnut brown brows. But even if they wanted to look back at the document held in hands that were being forced not to shake, they were held by the deep blue ones of the woman.
"Then how do you want to handle this? I am not currently looking for a marriage partner, Miss?" Albert Moriarty said.
The sudden dry laugh the woman gave at his reply had him frowning and narrowing his eyes at her. He didn't see this as amusing. Right now, he couldn't afford to lose what he and his brothers had already worked hard to gain. But refusing something that the Queen of England herself had signed, and with his father and some man he didn't know.
"Higurashi, Kagome," The petite woman said. Her blue eyes darkened as the laughter stopped. "I think you may have misread that document you hold in your hands. It does not state marriage. But to procure an heir. And frankly, I don't find you enticing at all. Yet, after my Guardian Chief Knight, Sesshomaru did a background check, you have two adoptive brothers left alive. And they live with you. William James Moriarty and Louis James Moriarty."
Albert stiffened at the mention of the name Sesshomaru. But his mind instantly shifted gears as he processed what she had said in its entirety. Her last name was Japanese, making him take a closer look at Kagome. He saw that she was a half-breed with a distinct blue eye color. Letting him know who her father was and what little knowledge he could recall about that particular British Noble. Allowing him to remember his father mentioning when he was still thirteen a bet he won against this noble.
"I see," he said slowly. "And how do you want to go about this, Miss Higurashi?"
The moment Kagome's lips curled into a small but warm smile, he felt like he had entered a trap.
"Well, I want to meet them first. And I will do that on my terms, so when you head home tonight, I suggest you inform the professor and your younger brother that you will have a guest coming to the house," Kagome said softly, amusement coloring her words as she spoke. "But be vague. I know both are brilliant men. So, I would like to see how quickly they can grasp the truth. I do like intelligent men; it is a turn-on."
Albert nodded his head in silent agreement. Then watched as Kagome stood up, reached across his desk, took the pledge from his hands, and left his office in MI6. When the door to the office clicked shut, he felt the urge to curse. He realized a few seconds too late that she had just insulted him by saying he wasn't intelligent enough for her.
Albert would do as she requested and inform his younger brothers of her visit in a vague manner. But he knew their temperaments and personalities best. She'd have a difficult time with them—especially Louis, who was a bit paranoid, more so with Sebastian Moran and Fred Porlock there.
Louis watched the young woman who had invaded the house he shared with his brothers. She calmly and casually sipped away at the cup of water she'd requested after he politely sat her in the parlor. He knew that Albert had said that in a few days, they'd be expecting an important guest. But he had no clue who this woman was and why she appeared out of nowhere.
He felt suspicious about her as he took in the thick, coarse clothing that made up her clothes and how her black hair hung down her back in waves. Louis was still trying to get his elder brother James to include him in the plans. So he had been doing research and improving his fighting and observational skills. Obviously, she wasn't of genuine English descent—the light tan to her skin, the elongated and slanted eyes. If he had to guess, she was half-oriental.
The sound of footsteps coming from the second floor had Louis turning to look, though he already knew who it was, Sebastian Moran. When his eyes met black ones that asked silently what was going on, Louis knew this girl wasn't here for him. So, stepping to the side, he let Moran see the girl sitting there as if she belonged.
"Oh ho? I didn't know you liked pretty girls that looked young, Louis," Moran said, giving a low chuckle.
Louis felt his lips twist into a sneer. He was unlike Moran, who couldn't go without alcohol and women for more than a few days.
"Ah, that answers that question; you are the house sleaze."
Louis felt his eyes widen as he looked at Moran, who frowned. He couldn't believe the words from the dainty woman's mouth. She looked small, harmless, and polite. Well, he couldn't think of her as polite anymore since what she said was rather rude and crass.
"Excuse me, what gives you the right to judge someone you just met?" Moran snapped, his hand running through his shaggy black hair.
"The same reason that you can say something unfounded to a person who lives in the same house as you," The woman said. "And I am right if you are getting defensive to snap like a child caught doing something naughty, sir."
Louis chose to turn and look back at the woman. Her blue eyes were glowing with glee as she brought the glass to her lips and sipped more water. He could tell she was purposefully needling Moran and was having fun with his reaction.
"You, little missy, shouldn't be in a man's house without an escort," Moran growled as he stepped past Louis and sat opposite the woman. "Don't you care about your reputation, or are you here to offer your services? I mean, you aren't no noble lady."
Louis observed the woman for her reaction. He didn't think she was a street walker. No, she had an air of elegance and dignity, though her clothes made it seem displaced. So, when she lowered the glass and smiled warmly, slowly blinking her eyes before setting the cup down on the table coaster.
"Happily, I can say I am twenty, so not a little missy. And thankfully not here to warm your bed," she said. "I do have higher standards. And require a certain level of intelligence that you clearly lack. Ah, the name is Higurashi, Kagome."
The choking sound Moran made was rather impressive. It was clear to Louis that this woman, not girl, Kagome was more than she looked at first glance. But now he was curious about why Kagome was here? She didn't deny that she was here to warm a bed, just not Morans. Which he knew had to hurt Moran's pride since he was a womanizer. And Louis knew he and James didn't require a 'ladies' services in that area. Nor had Albert.
"Ah, well, if you don't mind, Mr. Louis, may I play your piano while I wait for the 'other' person I want to meet?" Kagome asked.
Louis felt a bit off balance at her request but shook his head. He wondered which of his elder brothers she wanted to meet? And who had sent her here for a night's romp? As he watched her sit at the grand piano, her fingers ghosting over the keys, eliciting a sorrowful tune, he couldn't help but go still.
Slowly each note was played, creating a somber atmosphere. Then Kagome began to sing in a voice that was a bit lower than he would have expected from her.
"Won't you spare me over till another year? Well, what is this that I can't see? With ice cold hands takin' hold of me."
Louis felt a chill roll down his spine when Kagome sang the Lyrics, 'To draw up the flesh off of the frame. Dirt and worm both have a claim. O'Death. O'Death.' When she finished, she let out a soft sigh of contentment.
"That woman was creepy," Moran said after the song's final note.
Louis said nothing since he agreed. But the sharp look and amusing smirk she shot Moran had him curious as her fingers went back to the piano keys.
"You don't know a woman's worth, do you?" Kagome said as she began to play another song.
Soon the parlor was filled with her voice again. This time her voice held a brighter tone with a bit of sultriness. The look on her face as she sang, her gaze never leaving Moran's as if to mock him with each word. More so when she got what he assumed was the chorus?
''Cause a real man knows a real woman when he sees her!
And a real woman knows a real man ain't afraid to please her!
And a real woman knows a real man always comes first!
And a real man just can't deny a woman's worth.'
Louis wanted to laugh at Moran's dumbfounded look. He was sure he had never seen Moran with his mouth hanging open, an unlit cigarette barely hanging on the edge of his lip. The front door opening made Louis turn and look into the foyer to see his brother. Who met his gaze and raised his eyebrows as the final note of the song seemed to hang in the air.
James stared at the tiny woman, Kagome Higurashi, who sat across from him. Between them on the small table was a chess board. He was shocked when he stepped into the house and heard a woman singing along with the piano accompaniment. The words coming from the woman's mouth were pointed and suggestive? It was not a song with which he was familiar.
But the amusement brightened Louis' eyes when he turned to look at him. Then the final note faded, and he moved to stand by Louis in the doorway to the parlor. Seeing a tiny oriental woman looking at him over the grand piano had him on edge. Those blue eyes shone with hidden intelligence. And his day at the college had been long and tedious, with testing taking place.
However, after she stood up and curtsied to him, she introduced herself politely. James had found himself playing chess with her. Usually, he'd be bored with his opponent since not many could keep up with his quick adapting and concise move choices. And at first, he thought she was a complete novice since she chose to play black and her moves were oddly erratic. After a few rounds, she had used pawns to take both his bishops. And she didn't try to hide the fact it was intentional.
Jame was re-examining her moves to that point while taking his turn. He was amused that they had taken the same amount of pieces from each other. Meaning the game was going to draw to a close soon enough. And from the looks of it, he had a better chance of winning.
"Miss Higurashi, I didn't think you'd be this capable. Each move you make has a purpose that isn't immediately recognized," He said, his mouth curling into a smile.
"You'd be correct, Professor Moriarty," Kagome said as she shifted a knight forward.
He couldn't help but narrow his eyes at her voice's nonchalant sound and the fact that she had just left a massive hole in her defense. Letting his eyes look at the board, seeing all the possible moves for both of them, he chose to ignore the hole in her defense. It was never wise to go for the obvious lure. So he shifted his last rook a few places forward.
"So, have you figured out my purpose today?"
The question took him by surprise, as well as the soft pleased tone Kagome used when asking. It had him blinking twice before making his next move, only to have his second to the last pawn claimed, forming a gap in his defense of his King.
"You are the guest that Albert mentioned would be showing up in a few days," he stated concisely. "And you purposefully dressed differently than you would normally. As your nails are well manicured, her hands have no calluses, though you play the piano quite well. And you have a dignified air about you, so I believe you are at the least minor nobility and a well taken care of young Miss."
Another few moves passed, leaving him with his King, Queen, and a knight left on the board. On Kagome's side were her King, Queen, and a rook.
"You are mostly correct," Kagome said as she moved the rook forward.
Again, James realized the obvious ruse she was making. Like with her Knight. He deliberated if he wanted to take this chance or not. He was thinking if she was intentionally baiting him with the same ruse again, before ignoring the hole to her King.
"Mostly?" he asked as he made his move.
"Yup," Kagome replied. Popping the 'p' at the end of the word as she used her Queen to take Knight.
"I gather you will not further elucidate your purpose of being here then? This means that if I want information, I will have to ask Albert," He said as he moved his Queen.
The soft hum from Kagome to confirm had James looking up from her hand that was sitting atop her Queen. A smile danced across her lips for a few seconds before the sound of a piece being knocked overdrew his gaze back to the board.
"I yield, Professor Moriarty," Kagome declared loudly.
Before he could say anything, Kagome stood up and thrust her hand at him. Behind her the sound of the front door opening and closing drew his attention; thus, he ignored the offered handshake.
"Miss Higurashi?"
James met Alberts's gaze for a second before his brother called out the woman. He sighed and turned to look at his older brother. He didn't miss the annoyed tone that Albert used.
"Yes, Young Lord Albert?"
The mocking tone she used back was somewhat surprising as he glanced between the two. James felt they didn't get along, and he needed to get the final pieces of the puzzle: this woman from Albert.
"Well, I have done what I wanted today, gentlemen. So I will excuse myself before my Guardian decides to get all huffy and say I need to visit the pretentious, pompous prigs he calls friends," Kagome said as she flounced out of the parlor past Albert without another word.
"Albert?" Louis asked, finally speaking up. "That woman was the person you mentioned? And what was her purpose?"
James stayed sitting as he waited. His hands subconsciously moved to put the pieces back on the chess board. The back of his mind was still analyzing each move that Kagome had made from beginning to end.
"Yes, about that, my father had a bet with her father, the deceased former Marquis Edwards," Albert said. "He won the bet, and our esteemed Queen officiated it. Our family will unite with the Marquis' daughter to provide an heir."
The silence that hung in the air at those words had James' hand going still. There was no talk of marriage, just an heir? Blinking as he placed the last chess piece on the board, James began to chuckle as he realized he was missing one black bishop and one white bishop. It allowed him to see the pattern of moves very clearly in his mind. That woman was fascinating, as was this agreement.
Then Moran burst out sputtering, "Wait, you mean one of you has to bed that obnoxious woman to knock her up!?"
James couldn't help himself as he placed a hand over his face and started to laugh aloud. He knew where to find Kagome Higurashi and the date and time to do it. Each move she had made based on the square count and pattern of each piece she moved told him. It was her challenge for him to come and reclaim his missing chess pieces. Though unhappy about the royally signed pledge, he wanted to interact with this woman. So glancing at Louis, he noticed that his brother seemed interested in her as well.
It had been a few months since the initial meeting, and Kagome looked up the staircase to the second floor of the Moriarty house(mansion).
She had been patient and wasn't let down when both Jame and Louis showed up at the church near Baker street. From there, a lengthy discussion took place. She wasn't upset with this life she was living. At least not after recalling the body's precious memories and that it involved characters she once read about in a book series as a young woman before falling that damn well.
Kagome didn't mind that she bounced between the two blood brothers in the Moriarty house's bed. Both were exciting lovers, to say the least. And she would do her duty as was stated in the pledge the Queen signed and produce an heir for her deceased father's lineage. Even though she was an illegitimate child, she was recognized and added to the family roster. The memories of her father, Thomas Edwards, were happy; he had loved and doted on her. However, he could not marry her mother, an immigrant from Japan who became a maid in his house.
Kagome had been the only child he had sired. However, Kagome wasn't ignorant of what went on behind the scenes of the Moriarty household. Nope. Her Guardian was very similar in looks to Lord Sesshomaru, down to his personality quirks. He was not amused that she was being used as a broodmare and thus had a strong protective streak.
It had been agreed that she would go to the Moriarty house twice a week. And would sleep with Louis one night and James the other. Kagome had been shocked that Louis had suggested this after she confirmed that she did not find his scarred face disgusting. No, Kagome found it fascinating, and while being bedded, she was drawn to stroke and nibble at it. Louis was a sadist in bed, and her body often had marks from him. Not that she minded.
James, oddly, was gentle and detached. He preferred to get the deed done and then have an intellectual conversation before going for another round and then sleep. That they shared her with no qualms spoke of how close the two brothers were. Though Kagome knew soon, she'd no longer have to come to the house. Her powers were already indicating that she was pregnant. And once it was confirmed, she'd leave and never come back.
Already Kagome had chosen to make this the last night she'd be here. It was James night, and she'd inform him after they had been together. There were no strings attached. No bond formed as far as she could tell. And it didn't matter who sired the father as long as the pledge was upheld.
Golden-brown eyes looked down at the marble grave marker. Before, Sesshomaru was a black buggy that held the most precious thing in the world to him. He had done his duty to protect Miss Kagome. Something deep within him always drew him to Kagome. He wasn't much older than her and had fancied her himself.
If it had not been for the pledge, he'd have pushed to wed Kagome. Yet it was childbirth that took her away, just like her mother before her. Now he understood what Marquis Edwards had felt. Sighing as a fine mist began to fall from the gray clouds covering the sky.
"You came," He said.
The soft footsteps from behind him came to a halt. Slowly, Sesshomaru turned and looked at the two slim, blond men behind him. It had been just over a year since Kagome had last visited them. He knew they were not simple men. No, James and Louis Moriarty reeked of blood and death. And it took a lot to keep his instincts from making him attack them.
"I was shocked when she told me she suspected she was pregnant. Informing me that if she were, she would not be to the house the following week," Jame said as his eyes drifted to the buggy. "So, with great effort, I scavenged for any information about her. Which was a bit more difficult than I thought possible, only to learn she passed away in childbirth."
Sesshomaru looked at the man and tilted his chin. It was only him, these two men, and the occupants of the buggy that had come for her funeral. A funeral that took too long to happen after her death.
"Indeed," he replied. "I made it as such. All either of you had to do was bed Miss Kagome and impregnate her. Which one of you did so you had nothing further to do with her. Or are you trying to claim paternal rights to the children for the right of being their Guardian and temporary heir to the Marquis Estate?"
The way both jerked back and glared at him let Sesshomaru know that wasn't the case.
"I-I wanted to see her one last time," Louis said. His gaze, too, was drawn to the black buggy by Sesshomaru. "May we look at the babies?"
Sesshomaru gave a slight nod of his head and pushed the buggy, so it was between them. From inside, two soft sighs came from the fraternal twins inside.
"She named them Louisa and Liam," he explained as he drew back the soft white baby blanket.
Sesshomaru took note of the two men's reactions as they saw the raven-raven-haired babies who looked up with red eyes that already showed a great deal of intelligence. They were shocked that she had named the babies after them.
