Chapter 1 - The Sleeper must Awaken

Bonnie laid in the garden's soil enjoying the sun's warmth on her face and the occasional cool breeze that lightly blew over her body. This was her way of communing with nature and allowing her magic to roam free. This she did everyday, as needed, allowing her magic to flow out from her body into the soil pushing up the vines, flowers and herbs to the surface, helping the grass grow thicker and greener. Her magic spread further out to the trees surrounding the property making the roots stronger and the leaves grow larger and more fuller. This daily practice was what calmed her down and gave her magic purpose. These days it was really the most that she allowed her magic to do. Oh, her magic both expression and her spirit magic wanted to do much more, but Bonnie had no desire to use her magic for anything more than the occasional candle lightening or calling forth a grimoire to her.

She felt it and him before Lucy called out to her. "Bonnie you have a visitor", she said tensely as she watched Bonnie laying in the dirt. She always thought that one day she would get up with bug bites or a wayward castaway, but she never did. She must have done a spell making the creepy crawlers avoid her, Lucy thought. The truth was that Bonnie had no need for a spell, her magic caused the insects to scatter away.

As Bonnie gathered herself together, Lucy walked closer ready to help the tiny witch up, "don't, I can do it myself".

Lucy sighed heavily, "well at least let me wipe off all the dirt from your hair and clothes", she snapped.

Bonnie accepted the help of dispersing the unwanted dirt, but once she felt that she was good she pushed Lucy's hands away.

"Okay, mother, I'm good", Bonnie said sarcastically with a smile on her face.

"You are such a brat little cousin", Lucy returned with a smile.

Both women walked side by side into the house, into the sitting room where Bonnie's surprisingly unexpected and uninvited guest stood.

Klaus watched both Bennett witches, they were stunning, all Bennett witches were blessed with an almost preternatural beauty and immense power, but the smaller witch's very presence seemed to speak to him, almost as if she was calling out to him. He could feel her magic softly tugging at him, and he wasn't sure if she was doing it consciously or not, she didn't seem to be doing it.

He knew that she was in her mid to late twenties, but she was dressed and carried herself like an old schoolmarm. She had two french braids on either side of her head that joined at the back and were twisted into a tight bun at the nape of her neck. Her dress was loose, flowy and long, going down to her ankles, the sleeves were quarter length and the neck was scooped, over the dress she wore an over sized sweater. He could tell she wore no makeup, but she didn't need it and she had big dark shades covering her eyes.

Compared to the other witch she would have looked like a wallflower next to a rose, if not for the glow about her. Klaus was very curious about this little witch. He noticed that she walked with a practiced ease and determination but she wasn't graceful. She was mindful of her footing but she held her head high. She walked with confidence, but he could tell it was a creation of will and not natural.

He lived long enough that he made it an art form of reading people and he could tell there was more to the tiny witch, more than she allowed others to see and perhaps more than she knew herself. Klaus wanted to discover all there was about this enigma, but that would have to wait.

Bonnie could feel his presence, his aura was so strong that she felt like she was being drawn to him, like a moth to a flame. He was doing all sorts of things to her magic and she wasn't sure why.

She sat next to Lucy, who despite her best efforts couldn't stop her thoughts from going to the risque about this man, yet he was more than a man and he wasn't a man, he was something altogether different and she was intrigued. She was so curious that she slyly put her hand on top of Lucy's. Klaus noticed. Bonnie was feeling a bit uncomfortable due to the silence that seemed to stretch as they surveyed each other, in their own ways. She needed to know why he was there.

"Why are you here?" There was an edge to her tone that she hadn't meant, but she couldn't help it.

Klaus smirked, "To the point, I like that, very well." He continued to lean on the wall preferring to stand than to sit. "I am in need of the Bennett witch", he said matter-of-factly. Bonnie shifted.

"What can I do for you"? Lucy chimed in finally.

Klaus' smile widened and his blue eyes seemed to glow, he pressed his hands together. "Let's not play games, you are no doubt a powerful witch and stunning I might add, but you are not THE Bennett witch and she is who I need."

Bonnie's back straightened and her voice took an authoritative and hard edge. "Let's not play games", she said, throwing his words back at him, "how did you find me?"

"It wasn't easy, to be honest, I have been looking for you for quite some time. I have a very powerful witch that has been seeking you out, but she has always come up with nothing." He paused, then continued. "That was until a few days ago. She sensed your magical signature and gps'ed me here, sort of speak."

Klaus had been in a foul mood prior to Freya coming to him with the news that she had found the Bennett witch. He would have left that very evening, but things had to be put in order for his departure. He couldn't explain how relieved he was to know that the Bennett witch was found. Bonnie pulled him from his thoughts.

" I have no desire to get involved with the affairs or politics of vampires. However I'm curious to know why you would need my services when you have a witch." Bonnie was done with this conversation and this unwelcome visitor.

The days of her getting mixed up with others' problems were done, long gone and she was not about to get thrust back into matters that were none of her business. Klaus could see by the set of her shoulders, the straight back and hardened look on her face, he knew she was poised to refuse him and as much as he wanted to keep his cards close to his chest, to threaten and rage, to make demands, in this matter he was going to have to be a bit transparent and do something he hadn't done in thousand years...plead and maybe even beg.

Klaus straightened his stance, lowering his shoulders and looked at both witches with a solemn look on his face. "My sister is a powerful witch in her own right, but she needs the assistance of the Bennett witch to remedy the problem at hand. " Klaus' voice wavered a bit with emotion. "My child is threatened by a malevolent force and Freya, my sister isn't strong enough to fight it on her own." Klaus looked down at his feet. Bonnie could tell that it cost him something to admit that he needed help.

Lucy gasped and turned to Bonnie at the mention of an innocent child being in danger, but Bonnie made no moves or sounds, she just sat there unmoved.

Although she had been a recluse for the better part of ten years, Bonnie had heard the rumors of the Hybrid, part wolf, part vampire. She heard the tales of a child, an abomination born of an abomination and so forth and whatnot, but it didn't affect her so she didn't care to research or investigate the matter.

She felt both her cousin and the hybrid watching her as she bent her head. She breathed in deeply then let it out with a loud sigh, she looked up, facing the man still standing in front of her.

"I am truly sorry for your situation, but I cannot help you, please leave."

Klaus couldn't believe it, well he could, but he was so full of rage that he was at a loss of rational thought. He straightened up and growled deep from his chest and before Lucy could react he charged at Bonnie throwing Lucy across the room. Bonnie instinctively knew what he was about to do, even though he was quicker than she anticipated she was able to push him back before he grabbed her by the throat, but she fell back as she stumbled to stand.

"Fucking witches, so high and mighty, keeping the balance, protecting the innocents, but not when it is perceived to be an abomination," Klaus yelled as he fell to his knees.

Bonnie threw aneurysm after aneurysm at him but in his rage he welcomed the pain and continued to growl and hiss. Lucy had finally gotten up ,but watched in shock, eyes wide as Bonnie used her magic. Lucy witnessed the hybrid trying to break free from her hold, but Bonnie had a tight grip on him, but he was strong, stronger than she thought he would or could be. Blood ran down his face, but he was healing as fast as each attack was laid upon him.

"Bonnie, enough!" Lucy yelled, getting both their attention.

Bonnie, in her attack mode, had forgotten to put her shades back on, Klaus looked up to see a vengeful goddess with white eyes, they were the color of cultured pearls, pinkish white and vision-less. Quickly Bonnie placed the shades back on her face, her breathing back to normal, she turned to the sound of her cousin, then she turned back to the man in front of her. Although she had stopped the aneurysms she still had him paralyzed on his knees. With a wave of her had she released him.

"As you can see, I am no help to you, please leave, I will not ask again." With that, Bonnie turned away and walked out the room.

Klaus stayed rooted to the floor even though he could move, he seldom was surprised by much, but the sight of the witch made for the rare occasion.

Lucy hadn't seen Bonnie use her magic in years, and yes she was protecting herself, but it still amazed her to see the force, the sheer raw power of her will. Lucy stepped to the hybrid, by then he was standing, watching her with his mouth slightly open, suddenly he adopted his emotionless mask.

"How long has she been blind?"

"Almost ten years", Lucy stated sadly. She looked at him, "I will talk to her. No child, no matter their parent, should not be helped and protected."

Lucy walked him to the door. She tentatively touched his arm, looking slightly at him, "what you said, that may be try of some witches and we both know there are valid reasons why, but not all witches are bitches and Bonnie definitely isn't."

Klaus gave her a look that said you could have fooled me. Lucy chuckled.

"She will help you. We will help you. But seriously, don't come back here (Lucy was almost afraid to see what Bonnie would do if he did). I will find you."

Klaus walked out the door, turned back, smiled and said "thank you, Ms. Lucinda Bennett."

Lucy found Bonnie pacing in her room.

"What the hell? You let that monster in our home for what purpose?" Bonnie yelled at Lucy.

Lucy was nonplussed by her display of anger. Lucy loved her cousin and although she was a grown woman, she still had child-like ways and one of those was her temper tantrums. Lucy crossed her arms in front of her chest and smiled mischievously.

"He was cute, scratch that he is fucking hot!"

Bonnie stopped pacing. "Seriously!?"

"You went fucking psycho-Galadriel-power-hungry-witch on his ass." Lucy laughed.

Bonnie frowned, "that's not funny, he could have killed me...hell...us."

"Nah, he wouldn't have because he needs you and hello, again you just handed him his ass. He was just angry, which I can't blame him. Why did you say no?"

Bonnie incredulously snapped her neck around so quickly she thought she may have damaged it because it made a popping sound. "Are you fucking kidding me? Look at me Lucy. This is what I got for helping vampires. Fuck that, I will never get involved with supernaturals and their shit ever again!" Bonnie yelled, almost in tears.

Lucy walked over to her, pulling her in her loving arms hugging her, rubbing her back , standing there rocking her like a baby. "My dear sweet cousin, you lost your sight because of a crazy ass witch who got what was coming to her and by trusting and placing your loyalty in the wrong place with the wrong people." Lucy's voice was low and tender, but strong as if she was reprimanding a child but trying to lessen the sting.

"Bonnie, you can't let that child die or worse, because you are scared and wallowing in self pity." Lucy pulled away, squeezed Bonnie's shoulders then kissed her on her forehead.

"I know you, and I know that you can't live with yourself knowing that that child could suffer due to your lack of involvement. It's time for the sleeper to awaken. It's time for you to be The Bennett witch." With that said, Lucy walked out the room leaving Bonnie with her thoughts.
