The wavering ceased, but the figure did not immediately return to the spot. For the first time since Cobra heard the soul, it felt torn between two very different things. Its thoughts swirled together in indecisiveness.
"…Does it really matter what I think? I ask because I do not know myself, and want to see and test for the truth."
"Surely your own opinion matters!" Lucy huffed. Cobra couldn't help but bite his lip to keep himself from smiling. That sentence was just so…quintessentially her. "How are you supposed to know what's what if you don't even have an idea yourself to base everything else off of?"
The figure stood quietly still at this statement. Cobra cocked his head at the strange sight. All the confidence having vanished from the man, he now seemed no more suspicious than anyone else likely to come in here. Although now that his thoughts turned to the question at hand–
Emptiness. A sudden painful hole caught Cobra off guard. He coughed to cover his surprise.
"You're certainly right. My apologizes. I will, however, be brief in my explanation, much like our dear assistant here." The charm reactivated, and Cobra could hear the smile once again permeating the man's voice, even via tampered lacrima. "I will reiterate in that I do not believe I have found a suitable answer yet; there are simply too many variables to be taken into account for me to properly settle on one or the other. However–" he cleared his throat. "If I were to happen to pick one…it would probably be closer to something of what you said, Doctor."
Lucy brightened. Cobra frowned. It was hard to tell if he was being truthful or taking the easy way out with his answer.
"I know that is all rather vague…perhaps I will come back at some point if I believe I have found a more satisfactory answer."
"We wouldn't mind that." Yes we would. "Please, feel free to drop by anytime."
