Altered Who
Disclaimer: I got this idea recently for a re-write of the Doctor starting from the beginning. Probably could do with a different name but oh well and I'm not sure if I'll continue past this initial beginning as I just wanted to try my hand at this but we'll see what the future holds.
As Theta Sigma continued to stare at the magnificence known as the Medusa Cascade long after everyone else had left to do other things, he couldn't help but still marvel at the sight. The familiar stirring in his hearts could be felt once again at wanting to be away from all he knew to be out amongst the stars. Free to live his life the way he wanted, which was a number of reasons the House of Lungbarrow had placed him in an arranged marriage sometime before he'd graduated the Academy despite it not usually being done that way given his respective age. Hoping the new responsibility would finally make him act like a proper Time Lord should once the wedding happened in several days time. His being at the Medusa Cascade with his friends in DECA, and his father and brother had been something of a gift to him and his friends to celebrate not only graduating the Academy, but the impending wedding ceremony. The visit there was also done as one final hurrah of sorts between Theta and his friends before they went off to do whatever Gallifrey expected of them.
Though Theta had some concerns where Koschei was concerned but had yet to voice them to his long time friend or anyone else. "The view of the Medusa Cascade is truly a brilliant one, isn't it?" Came a voice unfamiliar to the Rebel Time Lord and startling him from his thoughts and continuous staring at the sight before him.
"Hmm? Who might you be?" He wondered as he took in the sight of the newcomer instead of answering the question.
The figure smiled in what Theta thought was meant to be a disarming manner but it wouldn't work on him. "A friend."
"Hah! I am most certain we've never met before until now."
"And you would be correct but I hope we can become friends, Theta Sigma. Especially after I explain why I am here." The figure told him and Theta couldn't help but feel curiosity well up in him.
"Well then, get on with it, 'friend'."
Chuckling, the new 'friend' did as told. "What if I could offer you the means to leave Gallifrey and do the things you've longed for for so long?"
"I would ask if this is a trick of some kind to place me in further trouble and to be looked down on even further as everyone knows how I am." Suspiciously replied the rebel Time Lord.
"It isn't, I assure you, my friend. For you see, the organization I represent could use an individual such as yourself to act in our interests and your own off Gallifrey in a manner those in charge wouldn't a clue of."
Despite himself, Theta couldn't help but to grow to like what he was being told. The pull of life outside of Gallifrey but despite that, it all sounded too good to be true and said as much. "Your instincts do you good, my friend. For if you are caught we would be forced to disavow all knowledge of you so that unwanted focus could not be placed on us and what it is we do." The mystery fellow told him.
"Leaving me to fend for myself, yes, I see." Frowned Theta but oh how the Pull kept its strengthening grip upon him!
But then he had a thought or two. "But surely my respective age would count against me in this offer of yours?"
The figure nodded. "Yes, while your age would still make you be seen as a child or a teenager in our Society, in others, you would be considered an Elder. One that could be looked too for Wisdom. This would allow you an advantage I believe." He told his potential recruit.
Theta closed his eyes as he heavily thought of everything he'd just been told while feeling the Pull ever more upon him and seconds later, he knew what his answer was going to be. "My answer…. Friend… Is yes."
His words got him a pleased smile from his so called 'Friend' and even got a clap on the shoulder as well. "Excellent, meet at the location I am sending to your mind once you and yours leave this place and we shall begin our work." He was told and felt a brush within his mind as information came to it.
"I shall be there as soon as I am able and I look forward to what I am about to do for you and yours. And might I know of this organization you work for?"
The figure smiled at him. "Perhaps that is best left alone for the time being, my friend. Now, I must be off."
And with that, he was gone, leaving Theta on his own until his elder brother Braxiatel showed up to let him know it was finally time to leave.
It'd be several hours later when Theta finally got the opportunity to head to the location he'd been told to go too and would be startled when his 'friend' popped up. "Excellent, follow me." Was all he said with a smile and Theta would indeed follow him as his curiosity grew ever more.
Soon finding himself quite far under the ground and then to a lab where a single Tardis resided in the center of it with several fellows doing various things to it in addition to focusing on other tasks. Said fellows barely paying him any attention for that matter as well. "I suppose it would be pointless to mention that I am not only unqualified to pilot a Tardis, but banned from doing so due to my status as a 'Renegade'?" His so called friend chuckled.
"And that is why I will be helping teach you in addition to the Manual the Tardis has that you can learn from. Ah yes, you'll also be wearing this when on your assignments." The friend told him as he handed over a ring.
"This ring is actually a special type of a Perception Filter that will allow you to blend in with the various races you will encounter when on assignment for us."
"Meaning I will look as they look."
"Exactly."
"Incredible." Murmured Theta as he put on the ring on his opposite hand for a moment before pocketing it as his 'friend' briefly smiled with a nod in his direction as the two of them entered the Tardis.
Which looked to be a white room with round patterns on the walls with a control panel at the center of it. "Oh my, she is beautiful." Theta said in awe of the inside of the Tardis.
Thinking its beauty and magnificence to rival that of the Medusa Cascade and feeling a positive hum in his mind. "This is a Type 40 Tardis, one that's been given a modified control panel so that you will need no one else to help you operate it."
"But aren't Type 40s now considered nothing more than Museum pieces these days?" Wondered Theta curiously as he took in the control panel and ran a hand along it.
Earning himself another positive hum in his mind from the Tardis. "They are but this one still has plenty of life left in her yet. And besides, no one would expect a Type 40 to be in use in this day and age." Pointed out the other man.
"Yes, I suppose you are right." Theta replied with a smile.
Part of him eager as can be to get started on his first assignment and just being out there. He was also given an item known as a Sonic Screwdriver in case his Signet Ring failed to help or had no access to it. "Furthermore, from here on out while on assignment and when another of us seeks you out, you will be known as 'The Doctor'. In addition to this, until you've gained full mastery in piloting the Tardis, we will be remote controlling from our base of operations."
"Not a name I would've chosen but I suppose I will get used to it. But what am I to call you?" Wondered the now newly named 'Doctor'.
"For now, simply refer to me as 'Contact'." 'Contact' told him.
"Very well, I shall do so. Now, what is my first assignment, hmm?"
Contact chuckled. "Eager are we?"
"Oh, very much so!" Replied the Doctor enthusiastically.
Chuckling again, Contact told him his impending mission. One that would be on the planet of Tulis, where the dominant lifeforms there known as the Tuli, had evolved from a Flower known as a Tulip. Theta's mission was to help keep one of the Tuli alive long enough for him to reach where he needed to be. "Wondrous." Murmured the Doctor after being filled in on his mission and taking in the sight of the Tuli he's to help as he'd never seen such a thing before.
And once several hours passed and the Doctor had been taught enough where the Tardis was concerned, he was on his way to the planet of Tulis. Though he'd decided that leaving the brakes on sounded like fun and being unaware of Contact shaking his head at the whole thing. "You are certain that recruiting him at such a young age for the purposes of the Celestial Intervention Agency is a wise thing?" Wondered a figure as he came up to Contact.
"I am. It may be early in his Timeline, but at least this way we have some measure of control over him." Contact replied.
"I see. Only Time will tell I suppose."
"Indeed."
Author's Notes: Is this something folks would like to see more of? Some may remember the Tuli from my Power Rangers 2017 movie fics as well.
