Alternate Scenarios.
Requirements: Chris, Kaylee and Silas are dead.
"Come on guys, you got to let me in." (if Nick is alive) Let us in! You try stepping in a bear trap dude."
Kaitlyn: Wait, that's Jacob. Emma, come help me move the table.
(Rest of dialogue continues as previous/not much deviation from previous chapter).
"Well, there goes my swimming career. Ah, fuck it. You know what, when I get home, I'm telling my dad I'm quitting the swim team. Uh,where's Ryan? I was with him but then we got separated."
"He went off with one of the counselors that didn't show up. Well she showed up. She and her boyfriend. They showed up one night early. He was attacked by one of those things in the storm shelter, and got turned into a werewolf."
"Werewolves. Of course."
"You're not even going to question it?"
"It would explain a whole lot."
"Anyway, said werewolf in question was Mr H. Mr H's brother is the sheriff, he had them locked up for two months. And the only cure is to kill the werewolf that bit you. That's where Ryan and Laura went."
"That's really fucked up. Hey, that must be eye patch lady,"
"You saw her?"
"Yeah. Freakin hunters had me in a freakin electrified cage, right next to one of those werewolves.
(If Nick is alive): which I just now realized must have been Nick. Holy shit! Anyway, Ryan let me out and I found my way back here through the underground tunnels. One of them led into the lake.
(If you did find the body):
"Where I found that fucking body!"
(If Nick's not alive)
"Yeah. Freakin hunters had me in a freakin electrified cage, right next to one of those werewolves. I don't know which one was next to me. She just freakin blasted the thing. Then the hunters found them. I was only able to get out because the power failed. I found my way back here through the underground tunnels. It led into the lake.
(if you did find the body)
"Where I found that fucking body! Do you think all the Hackett's are involved in this?"
"I don't know. I don't think it's really going to matter. It's not like anyone is going to believe us."
"Well, we can't say werewolves...what we say it was bear or something?"
"If we have to. And the Hackett's went nuts and attacked us. Which wouldn't be further from the truth I mean..."
"The body in the lake. That would be plenty motive right?"
"Jakey boy finaly found his brain." Kaitlyn pats him on the head.
"Ugh...stop it." He brushes her hand away.
(If you didn't find the body)
"Well, we can't say werewolves...what we say it was bear or something?"
"If we have to. And the Hackett's went nuts and attacked us. Which wouldn't be further from the truth I mean..."
"Shit. "
(If Nick is dead) "Has anyone seen Nick?" (Or if all 3 are dead, he asks where Emma, Abi, and Nick are.)
Kaitlyn shrugs.
(If Nick is alive and only Abi is dead) Anyone seen Abi?
Emma: "Nick...killed Abi. It wasn't him." (Kaitlyn says both lines if Emma is dead)
Kaitlyn: It's not like he had any control.
Jacob:"Jesus. What am I going to tell him?"
( if Nick is alive)
"I don't think you have to." Kaitlyn shifts her eyes over to the fireplace where Nick and Dylan are.
Nick is crouched down in shock, Caleb still on the other side of the fireplace. Kaitlyn goes over to Caleb to check on him while Dylan is comforting Nick.
"Hey. It wasn't you. " His hand hovers over Nick's shoulder as if, it will burn his hand. "we'll...hash it out later. (If Dylan turned into a werewolf) I have no clue what I did..."
Just then the door opens and four figures appear. A cop, followed by Laura and Ryan and a short ginger-haired boy, that must be Max who's dressed in an interesting ensemble. The cop sees Caleb, who is in complete shock but alive, rushes over to him.
"So.." Max says, at an attempt to break the ice, rocking back and forth on the balls of his feet, swinging his arms. He stops when he spots Emma.
"Hey, uh...are wearing my clothes?"
Emma: Sorry. It's a long story.
Kaitlyn goes over to Ryan: Well, did you do it?
Ryan: Yeah. Chris is...Chris is dead.
Ryan explains what happened after he went off with Laura. And their showdown with Silas, seeing Eliza in the woods, and the Harum Scarum fire and how the Hackett's fit into it all.
Kaitlyn: I thought that was just a ghost story.
Travis: It's not a ghost story. It was a tragedy. People died in that fire. It haunted my family for years. Especially Kaylee." Both he and Ryan look utterly devastated.
"So, it's over then?" Kaitlyn asks.
"So, she was real? The Hag of Hackett's Quarry?" Dylan still didn't quite believe the voice he had heard on the phone in Mr H's office and the lodge was actually real.
"She didn't want us to kill Silas...he was the one that bit you outside the radio hut..but yeah...it's over. The curse of Hackett's Quarrry is broken."
Kaitlyn: A bit dramatic much?
Max: What the fuck. I guess ghosts aren't much of a big leap from werewolves."
Travis: That's not either here nor there right now. Have any one of you seen Caleb?" Travis sees him and goes over to him. Whispering something before going back to the group.
Laura: We're really sorry. About what happened. This all could have been prevented."
Travis: "You're damn right. If you hadn't knocked me out and stolen my silver ammo to kill my family with, before I could tell you about the white wolf. "
"Don't put this all on us. Your family isn't as innocent."
Max: (whispers) Laura.
Laura: "I didn't know Kaylee...or Chris maybe they didn't deserve all this, and for that, I'm sorry."
Travis: "I would have told you..."
"So you say..." Laura didn't believe him.
Kaitlyn: I don't think playing the blame game is exactly helping."
Travis: We don't have time for this. First things first before the authorities get here. We need to get our stories straight."
Laura: Aren't you the authority?"
Travis: They're likely going to send the state police to investigate. They're going to want to separate all of you. Before that happens, we're going come up with a feasible story." He thinks for a second. "You're going to say it was my families fault."
"What?" Ryan asked with a shocked expression.
"I mean, it sort of is." Laura said.
"You got that right. You know what sort of hell you put me through," Jacob hobbled up on his foot, "put all of us through."
(If you found the body)
"We know about the body in the lake."
"I had nothing to do with that."
"Yeah, but you knew didn't you?"
(Same dialog whether or not you found the body in the lake)
"Why would you help us? Kaylee and Chris are dead." Ryan asked. Hurt in his voice.
"Kaylee was an accident. Chris...you were only defending yourself."
Laura: You're just giving up. Just like that? Why not lock us all up, charge us with all of this...it's not like you covered your tracks before...it's all one big cover up right?"
Max whispers: Laura, don't give him any ideas.
Travis: you're right, I could do that..." The counselors back up as he reaches for his gun. Slowly he takes his hand off the holster. "but I won't. Alright...here's the deal. Your friend here, found the body in the lake. Once my family found out about it, they couldn't let you go. Laura and Ryan went to confront Chris but things went south from there. I tried to protect Max and Laura by giving them a warning., not to come here."
"By warning you mean imprisoning us for two months?" Laura asked. " I meant what I said. I'll never forgive you for what you did. But...thanks."
"Are you sure? They were your family?" Max asked.
"They were all going to pull me down in the well with them. Had to cut the rope sometime. I'm going to take Caleb back to my place. I'll be right back. Don't any of you go anywhere. Stay put."
"Yeah, like we have a choice." Kaitlyn remarked.
"Hey, uh where'd Dylan go?"
Kaitlyn: (if Dylan was bit in the scrapyard) "He was bit."
"What?"
(Or in the radio hut and you didn't cut off his hand as Ryan) "He turned...at the scrapyard."
"What?"
"Saved my life actually."
But Ryan was already making a beeline over to Dylan where he spots him sitting on the steps. "Hey."
"Hey. "
"Are you...How's the..."
"It healed up nicely." He holds up his arm. The bite where the werewolf had sunk it's teeth into, it was heeled over, leaving a jagged scar. As it had been healing for week and had not sustained it just a few hours ago.
"I guess we all have our battle scars." Ryan lifts his shirt.
"Ryan! Holy shit..."
"It's ok. It's not as fatal as it was. If it was I'd have bled out by now. Thanks to Laura. She had to bite me. The big hunter dude stabbed me. When I...shot Chris, it broke the curse. Didn't matter anyway, if only Travis told us about the white wolf sooner."
"White wolf?"
"Silas."
"Right." The one that had bit him. He was sure. The same one he saw at the radio hut was the same one at the scrapyard. It's white pale leathery skin, and bloody maw snarling, red eyes staring at him. It would haunt his dreams for a very long time.
"I'm sorry." They both say at the same time.
"For what? What do you have to be sorry for.?" Ryan asked. Before he can get an answer, there was a blaring of sirens drawing closer.
Two cops, and several ambulances arrive. With a lot of fuss from Ryan as they tried to usher him into one. His stab wound still needed medical attention. The EMT refused Dylan to ride with him.
"At least let me get his number first."
The EMT sighed with annoyance.
"You never quit do you?" Ryan asked.
"Oh shit, my phone. I must've lost it..."
"There's always later."
"I don't know about that. If we decide to just be friends...it would be a mess to date me anyway."
"Oh yeah? I'd find that hard to believe."
"Whatever you decide. We still got time."
"I just...have to figure out, who I am first."
"Yeah. No worries. If you want to be Dylan Dylan or blase Dylan. I'll be here."
(Abi is alive. Emma is dead. Kaitlyn and Dylan survived the lodge attack.
Abi pounds on the office door. Everything had gone quiet. No way they forgotten her in here.
"Hello. Kaitlyn? Dylan? I'm still in here. Hello?"
The lock suddenly clicked. The door opened, revealing Kaitlyn on the other side. Kaitlyn breaks the news about Caleb.
" Kaylee. Now Caleb." She looks around. "Hey, where is everyone?"
"None of the others came back yet. It's just us and Dylan."
"I have no idea how we're going to explain everything that's happened."
There was a knock at the door. The three counselors glanced at it, uncertain of what to do. The night was over, the werewolves were gone, but that didn't mean the hunters weren't still out there.
"Come on guys, you got to let me in." The knocking becomes persistent.
"Wait, that's Jacob." Kaitlyn ran to the door. "Abi, come help me move the table."
Jacob found Emma in the woods, and confessed about the van. Nick is dead. If Nick is not dead, Emma, Nick and Jacob all come back together. And if Dylan or Abi is alive Kaitlyn asks them to help move the table.
Emma and Jacob are supporting Nick. Emma hits Jacob on the back of the head."Ow. Hey. What was that for?"
"For being an idiot."
"Don't blame me. Those bear traps were everywhere."
"You know that's not what I'm talking about."
Kaitlyn checks over his foot. "Yep. It's definitely broken."
"And how long does a broken ankle take to heal?"
"Remember when I broke my leg. It took like two months."
"Two months?"
"Or longer."
"Well, there goes my swimming career."
"Don't complain Jacob. That Laura girl and her boyfriend were in an ACTUAL prison for two whole months."
"If you think she's pissed off now, you're so dead if she finds out." Kaitlyn says, nearly about a whisper.
"Oh, I already now." Emma chimes.
Requirements: Only Dylan and Abi lone survivors.
Dylan
I'm too late. I hid in the kitchen, like a coward, armed with a useless frying pan while that thing mauled Kaitlyn to death. Her body looked so small. The pan clatters to the ground. I don't remember dropping it. Till I hear it. I sank to my knees. Trying to hold back the sobs.
Then... I hear a voice. "Hello?"
For a moment, maybe I imagined it all. I'm going nuts. It's just a dream, a nightmare or a bad trip and Kaitlyn really isn't dead.
"Anyone out there? Kaitlyn?" It couldn't he her. She's lying right in front of me. "Dylan?"
It's Abi. Followed by a pounding noise. It sounded like it was coming in the direction of Chris's office. I tear my eyes from the bloody carnage that is Kaitlyn's body. I have to cover her with something. I grab a coat off the coat rack by the door.
"Anyone there. Hello?"
I make my way across the lodge. "Abi? It's me " I try to open it but the door knob wouldn't budge.
"It's locked from the inside. Can you find a key or something?"
I remembered Ryan had handed Chris's key chain to Kaitlyn.
I'm forced to go back to her body. I don't lift the coat as I blindly search. The keys miraculously had somehow stayed in her pocket. I try not to look at her. My hand slick with blood, I almost drop them. I can't get my hand to stay still as I struggle to get the key in the lock. None of the keys seemed to be working.
"Damn it. Son of a bitch." I grunted. They slip through my grasp. I pick them up and try again. So many damn keys. Ok, last one.
The lock finally clicks and I pull the door open.
"Where's Kaitlyn?"
I had forgotten just for a moment.."She uh...I couldn't...save her." I feel a gentle sympathetic touch on my arm.
We wait outside, sirens drawing near. The cops arrive, swarming the camp grounds. Even in the chaos, there's silence. I stand beside Abi. She wraps her arms around herself. She's shivering.
I am too. My clothes are still soaked from the rain water and are starting to stiffen from the blood, making me feel weighed down. Two paramedics are moving Kaitlyn's body onto a stretcher. One of them zips the body bag shut.
Abi releases a breath that sounds like a cross between a gasp and a sob.
I put my arm around her. "You're ok." I tell her. But I'm lying. Maybe I'm lying to myself.
A cop approaches us. His eyes skate over me, making me tense and uncomfortable.
"You'll both need to come down to the station. Someone will take your statement there." His stare lingers on me for a second longer. A second too long.
The station was the ranger station. We weren't separated right away, as we wait to be questioned. I wonder if this was some sort of tactic.
"You might want to call your folks. I'll give you a minute." The officer said.
Abi's hand drops from mine. I wasn't aware she had been holding it. "I'll only be a minute."
The cop walks back and looks suspiciously at me again. "Aren't you going to call someone?"
"Got no one to call."
