The New York Crew Ch. 06

Zilla takes his usual route across the city. He'd seen the city from a larger view, but there's something about taking a drive that always calms him.

Just then, his radio goes off. "Hey, Z! You there?"

The driver answers. "Yeah, I'm here, Komi. There a problem?"

"No, not really. Just wondering when you'll get home. I've been missing you since you left."

Zilla chuckles. "Miss you to, Komi. I think I'll drive around for another hour and then I'll head home."

"Hey! Gizmo's been asking when we're going to take our honeymoon."

"Honeymoon?" the kaiju arcs a brow at that. "What's that?"

"Apparently it's what you're supposed to do after getting married. It's a type of vacation where the couple leave and have some private fun."

"Sounds like what some people tried doing in the back of my cab," the irradiated iguana comments. "Never had to kick anyone out before. Gizmo would have freaked and made me wash the whole car."

"You sure pick up some interesting humans. Didn't one of your last passengers try bringing a llama with them?"

"Hey!" Zilla laughs. "You get your entertainment from Slick and Gizmo, I get mine from fellow New Yorkers."

"Speaking of Gizmo. She says that you have a requested pickup at an apartment just around the corner where you're at."

"Tell her I'm on it. Be home soon. Love you."

"Love you to."

With that, Zilla drives right around the corner and parks right in front of the apartment Komi mentioned.

The kaiju sticks a new piece of gum in his mouth as he waited there for a few minutes, often checking the time. He finds it funny how humans want him to be on time when they themselves are hardly there at the given time.

As soon as the back doors open, he catches a familiar scent. His instincts kick in and immediately hides his cabby information.

"Are you serious, Mendel?" a redhaired woman in a green dress stepped into the cab. She scoots over to allow another in.

"Elsie, I've never been more serious than in my life," man with dirty blonde hair tied in a ponytail wearing a suit sits next to her. "Look, I know it's a big step," he grabs her hand. "But I think we're ready. But I won't force you to decide."

The woman sighs then looks up at the driver. "There's a restaurant called the Red Rose across town. You know where it is?"

Zilla lowers his hat a bit. "I do. Some friends of mine have recommended it to me and my wife."

"Great. That's where we need to go."

"I'll step on it."

As he drives his passengers through the streets, Zilla could not help but overhear their conversation.

Elsie asks Mendel, "Did Randy tell you what this is about?"

Mendel shrugs. "He said that it's for some sort of celebration."

"The last time we had a celebration like this was when Nick and Audrey finally got married."

Hearing that, Zilla swerved slightly.

"Hey!" Elsie hits the window. "Where'd you learned to drive? A racetrack?"

"A parking lot actually," he answers. "Not far from my building… That was rhetorical, wasn't it? Sorry. Not used to those yet."

"You better learn! Cause if you continue driving like that, you'll get a lot of them," she glares at the driver through the window.

They soon reach the restaurant and Elsie steps out. Mendel then hands cash over to Zilla. "Here you go. Keep the—" he then sneezes into the cash. "Change. Sorry."

The kaiju takes the money. "Don't worry. I've had nastier things go on back there."

Mendel's face turns ghostly pale from hearing that and he could not get out fast enough. He takes out a bottle of sanitizer and starts pouring it in his hands, rubs them together, then goes up his arms and over his face.

Elsie can be seen questioning him about his actions and they are soon approached by a dark-skinned man with black hair in a green suit, a man with brown hair in a red suit, and a blonde woman in a pink dress. They all greet one another before walking in.

The entire time, Zilla's eyes never left the man in red. Once they were inside and out of sight, the kaiju sighs before starting to drive away. He then slams on his brakes once he catches another familiar scent. That can't be right. He was just…

Zilla looks back at the building before getting out of the car to follow his nose. The scent leads him to another car, and he can easily hear banging from inside the trunk. With his strength the kaiju easily tears it off and his eyes widen at what he found.
