Thanks y'all for the Kind Reviews :D.
Gojira, finally leaving what was left of the city behind, looked east. He saw the rise finally rise over the night, the deadliest night in fact in years, and as Night receded and Day came he looked back beyond him towards Dallas. What would have been distant Skyscrapers were now distant columns of Smoke, which rose up high into the sky and even from this distance appeared wide on the horizon. It was as if a Volcano erupted, and this was the ash cloud, but in reality this was all the work of Gojira.
This time, the regret stayed, Gojira wasn't a truly malevolent creature, he didn't want to cause any more harm. He could sense the mass of creatures ahead of him, that being the city of Houston, Texas. His senses were good enough to be able to detect that or perhaps it was just the fact he had absorbed knowledge of the location of the city. Either way, he decided to do a slight detour to avoid it.
He no longer moved along the highway, rather stepping into and walking into a more wooded area. He stepped over a Rural road, squashing a long fence. He walked past a Farm, whose residents exclaimed upon his arrival and hid. He paid them no attention, and just kept walking towards the sea. He could sense that he was closer now, he could feel he was closer. He walked over a tree, which broke under his now 600 Ton weight. The Branches and leaves scattered, he kept going, walking over another rural road, stepping over a Small Bridge which broke immediately under his weight.
He heard a familiar noise, he turned to see 3 Apache helicopters flying towards him. They began spraying him with missiles and gunfire, and he sidestepped them as several missed and flew into an abandoned house, the already weak and decaying structure was shattered in the explosion and in retaliation he charged his Dorsals, he let loose his Orange Beam and he watched as it struck the apache nearest, the others attempted to flee, but he quickly waved it at them and they too were melted by it, he dragged it across the forest for a moment, and a stretch of it combusted into flames.
He picked up his pace, soon he crossed a Rural road into a nearby small town, given its small size he didn't spend much time in it, he did accidentally step on a Small Store near the center and crush its wall and it collapsed as a result, but otherwise the damage was minimal. He followed a Small rural road for few minutes, he had a fast walking speed, about as fast as a Car, and after a little bit he left the road and had to go through a wooded area, which was filled with surprisingly dense trees, he crossed a stream, which he only needed to take a step to move across, his footprint left a impression that quickly filled with water. It took about 20 minutes to encounter anything Human-Built, that being another road that seemed to be more populated, a Truck Moved Across it, and he watched as the driver saw him, screamed and promptly sped off, he paid no attention to it, and pushed down a Street Lamp in the way as he crushed the Divider on the side and went back into the woods, from there a few moments later he encountered a Rural Home in the woods, he stepped on a Small Shed, crushing its contents but otherwise also paid no attention.
He walked past another dirt road, stepping over a fence and into the woods again. He could notice 2 Blackhawk helicopters approaching him, and he dug his feet into the ground and fired his red beam, the helicopters quickly burst into flame as their airframes were distorted and partially melted, he watched as one exploded midair and another spiraled into the trees then meeting the same fate.
As he continued walking, he noticed that he was approaching a Town, this one larger and more populated, he walked past it, paying little attention to it until he saw the flashes of Human weapons, they had lined up some Small Armored vehicles and were using Machine guns and a RPG to attempt to attack him. He growled, he quickly sprinted into the Town, losing interest in where he stepped and as a result several homes and shops were destroyed by his footfalls. He picked up one of the Military vehicles, throwing it into a nearby convenience store where it exploded. He saw some of the others tried to drive away, but he followed them and picked up 2 and mashed them together, before discarding the remains into a nearby neighborhood, the final one managed to get further, but he breathed out some flammable gas, engulfing it and some parked cars and quickly ignited it, the resulting explosion destroying them. He walked through the flames, leaving the town. He saw a Newschopper following him, and given it was annoying he beamed it, turning it into molten slag that fell into a nearby field. For the course of the Next Hour and a Half he went even further south, he was approaching the sea, he could feel it.
As he approached the sea, he began to get into more populated areas again, he passed a sign that informed him he was approaching the city of Beaumont. He entered the suburbs of the small city, stomping through a Shopping area, partially collapsing some stores, he then walked over a parking lot, sending up explosions from the crushed cars as he quickly headed to the ocean. Gojira now could feel the cool ocean air blowing towards him, he was walking quicker now, a Helicopter approached him, and he beamed it without hesitation, sending flaming wreckage down to the streets below, he kept pace, stomping over a fast food restaurant and a old arrangement of shops and roads, briefly into a residential area until he finally reached the coastal city, he could see the distant glint of water. He sprinted towards it, stepping on a Tank that made an attempt to fire on him but failed as it crumpled and exploded under his weight. He felt more tanks firing on him, a Line of Tanks on a Nearby Road joined by IFVS and Soldiers on buildings. Gojira looked at the lot of them, his Dorsal Plates Flashed Red, Then Orange and finalizing at a Pale Yellow before he fired, some fired but there was no more gunfire after that as the Tanks melted and were pulverized, he raised his atomic breath again towards the soldiers on the buildings then dragging it around, destroying the remaining forces. The entire center of Beaumont was turned into a Mix of Melted Slag and fire as he continued again towards the sea.
He noticed a complex set of structures, which seemed to be like thinner skyscrapers which had a mess of pipes between them. This was an Oil Refinery, one of several, but the first he had encountered. He slowly approached it, it reeked of foul smells. He could hear another Apache approaching and he quickly charged up his spines. As the helicopter approached he let off a beam, however, the helicopter quickly moved to the side and let loose its own missiles, which Gojira also dodged, the Missiles struck countless Oil Barrels Behind him, setting off a chain reaction of eruptions that resulted in the Refinery going up in a Single Massive Explosion. The Helicopter was destroyed by the Shockwave almost instantly, and He was hurled back about 700 Meters. He quickly got back up, shaking off the rubble and looking back at what remained of the Refinery. The Entire Structure was gone, and what remained was a Mushroom-Like Cloud of Smoke and Ash, which pressed again the sky, a Crater was where the refinery looked to be, and Gojira looked up at the Mushroom cloud that resulted from the Explosion, the Colossal Ash-Filled Structure was a Sign of Victory
His Victory. One that he could Truly say his ultimate Battle, he had reached the sea, alive, and was more powerful than ever. He felt no regret now, that terrible, awful place was gone, and as he stared up at the Mushroom Cloud he let out a Victorious Roar, which blew apart nearby windows and caused anyone within 3 Miles to go deaf. He quickly began to make his way into the sea, he felt the water wash over his Scales as he stepped into it, after some wading he could finally submerge himself, and like that, Gojira vanished into the sea.
Serizawa had been one of many scientists contacted, and forced, to go on this trip. Given he had the best overall understanding of Gojira and what he really was. He was a Creature that was molded, created, to fit the needs to dominate everything he saw. The Planeride to Amarillo had been nauseating to say the least, and the Helicopter ride from there to Dallas had been arguably worse. Having to listen to Helicopter rotors nearly made him throw up combined with the vibrations, and when they set down he was glad to be on solid ground.
As he stepped off the chopper he looked around at the Ruins of Dallas, and to say the city had been decimated by Gojira had been an understatement. The Fire Department had done what it could, but many fires still raged in the city and the path he cut through Oklahoma was seeing some of the World Wildfires of this Century. The Ground itself still felt warm, he could see some parts of the asphalt had been melted and some nearby buildings had been charred. Evidently, Gojira had greatly affected the area, and he reached down to touch the ground. He picked up a Shiny Piece of Rock, which was half turned to Glass.
Gojiras beam was hot enough to Melt Rock into Glass, now that he thought of it that wasn't surprising, Gojira's beam was hotter than a G-Type Main Sequence Star, at least 5000 Kelvin on the outside and who knows how hot on the inside. He walked over to a Metal Girder on the side, inspecting it. He had taken enough physics courses to know that given how warped it was it was put under both extreme pressure and thermal forces. He felt the Girder, and sure enough it still burned to the touch, he quickly pulled his hand away from it and shook it.
"What are the radiation levels?" He asked someone with a Geiger counter, he saw them looking down at the Counter for a moment before they spoke.
"Looks a bit higher than normal." They said, Serizawa groaned, Facepalming as he wanted a clearer answer
"How much higher?" He asked.
"It's not gonna kill us." They said, Serizawa nodded, before continuing to examine some Debris. A Nearby building had collapsed, and as a result pieces of it had spilled out all over the Road. Serizawa took great interest in a Plate of Sheet metal, it had probably been a Warehouse that housed building supplies, and as he looked at the sheet metal he realized it too had been slightly warped by the heat. Serizawa looked towards the Collapsed Warehouse and walked over to it. He walked over the remains of the gate, which had been slightly disfigured from the sheer pressure force of the blast of Gojiras atomic breath. Gojiras Atomic Heat Ray must have been powerful enough to cause distortions in the air, similar to that of a Rocket Launch, and the entire Gate looked like it had been shattered from all sides. As he walked through the warehouse he found something interesting, a Half Buried forklift in a pile of charred wood. It had its Windows Shattered by the blast, had been turned on the side and its Paint scorched and Scratched off but otherwise appeared mostly intact. He inspected the forklift, it must have been further away, as he looked around he could see the bent metal frame of the Warehouse Aisles that held all this wood, and he inspected that too. It looked like the Pressure wave had bent it partially, and that had destabilized it as the bottom half had been snapped off.
"Serizawa, over here!" One of the other scientists said, Serizawa quickly left the abandoned warehouse to find something arguably more important.
A Lamppost, one that had received a Direct hit from Gojiras Atomic Ray. Serizawa looked at it, feeling it. The Entire thing had been distorted and warped before the top had melted off entirely. He could still feel the heat on the thing, and as he looked he heard his Name Called Again.
He rushed to a Military Humvee, which he got into promptly. The Driver took them down the road. He looked at the former homes and shops which were unrecognizable and turned into molten messes, some of them didn't look like structures at all anymore. They were a mix of melted glass, shattered frames and what used to be valid building materials which were now just distorted glimpses of the past. It was like looking at an Ancient Roman City, so little was left but only the slightest bits of the suggestion of civilizations, which seemed to only be available easily here because the city had been completely fine 24 hours ago and he had visited it before. He had actually been on this exact road before, he could remember it as it used to be, and it was so strange to see the piles of rubble where parts of his life had been spent.
Then the humvee took a turn and it left that road. It continued onto a Small Bridge over the trinity river, which, luckily had escaped the Wrath of Gojira. The Humvee took another turn and sped down the road, they did eventually have to slow down and take yet another turn as they were approaching an area of the road which took a direct hit from Gojiras Atomic breath. He looked at that part of the road as they drove past, it seemed like something had carved deep into it in a straight line and melted the area around it. That entire section definitely wasn't drivable, and probably would never be again. They drove onto a street filled with some shops, and the path of Gojiras atomic breath went through here too. There were 2 Fire Engines on the street, which were hosing down a fire in one of the shops. The Entire area was somewhat burnt, and as they watched parts of the shop that was on fire crumbled down.
They continued driving, passing a less affected area before taking another right and now drove towards the city center. Not every fire in the city had been contained, and as they drove they went past an entire neighborhood that was on fire, they just kept going, and Serizawa watched the smoke recede into the distance.
Then, after a solid 10 minutes of driving, they finally reached their destination. The Humvee pulled into an area with some soldiers and some hastily put up traffic cones. It was a Temporary, or at least new, Exclusion Zone. Serizawa got out of the car, as did everybody else, and after a brief exchange where they had to show them their IDs they were allowed into the Exclusion Zone. It didn't take long for Serizawa to find out exactly what they were trying to exclude people from, as he could nearly instantly see the Pile of Flesh on the ground. It was the result of the Bunker-Buster attack on Gojira, which had taken a significant chunk out of the monster and as a result splattered some of his flesh onto the ground.
This would be very useful, as they had gotten some field lab equipment here already. He pretty quickly got some samples of the flesh. He brought it to the field lab equipment, where, quickly, he began the analysis process. It took some time for the results to come back, of course, but when it did Serizawa was shocked.
"No Mutagen?" He asked out loud, no one was particularly close to him at the moment, so his question went unanswered.
He had expected some amount of Mutagen, of course, even a lot of it. Mutagenic Particles were designed to survive for days on their own and this thing had been separated for only a matter of hours. The only way he could think of this thing having no Mutagen was if it had already been consumed completely.
But that was impossible right? This thing had adapted a lot but it should have more left. He ran the test again to make sure it was correct, and sure enough it came back with the same result. He quickly ran to inform the others about his findings, and when he found them he was nearly out of breath from running.
"Serizawa, did you run a Marathon or something to get here?" One of them asked sarcastically, Serizawa shook his head and handed a General who accompanied him the Paper with the results.
"Nice Bar Graph, but it says here that the Mutagen data collection is Incomplete." The General said.
"No, it's fully complete, those are the results we got back." Serizawa said.
"I was under the impression this stuff would last a week, not just a day?" One of them said.
"We were wrong, kind of." Serizawa said, scratching his head before explaining. "You see, Mutagen comes in limited numbers, so every time an Adaptation is made a certain amount is used up. I'm guessing since we never had a test of this scale, we didn't foresee this happening."
"Foresee what happening?" The General said, raising his Brow.
"It seems, at least to me, that the bigger an organism gets and the more they adapt, the more mutagen they use." Serizawa said. "We know Gojira started off as a Gecko, and now he is by far the largest living Organism on the planet save for the other mutated creatures." He said, "So, I think that we just saw Gojiras Final adaptation."
"Interesting, I'll file a report." The General said, and Serizawa nodded. Hopefully, he can right some of his wrongs here.
Back in Oklahoma city, the Mutagen Test site had been placed on pretty heavy lockdown now. Obviously no Human would get in, and no large animals would either. Of course, there wasn't much to do about flying animals, such as Birds.
One happened to take a Sip of the Mutagen as it landed, and unfortunately for everyone else the same process began again. This time, unlike Gojira, who the Mutagen made more specific adaptations for, this one ingested far less of the substance, meaning the Mutagen had far less to work for, so, taking the Creatures Genes, it quickly did a brush and found that, roughly 120 Million years ago, the Bird was a viable creature for its uses, all it needed was some slight modifications.
And so another Mutated Animal came to being, another Theropod, Far smaller and weaker than Gojira, but nonetheless threatening, and perhaps far worse for Humanity…
Next Chapter will be very Kaiju Intensive and will feature reports and Perspectives of Multiple Kaiju.
