The Dinosaur King - Chapter 5: Dinosaur Graveyard
Tristan and Sue were making their way away from Anton as they laughed.
"All right, it worked!" said Tristan as they made their way away from Petrie.
"We really lost 'im", said Sue.
"I know what you're thinking. "The Future King is a genius," said Tristan arrogantly.
"Hey, Genius, it was my idea," said Sue. "
"Yeah, but I pulled it off," said Tristan.
"With me!" said Sue. "
"Oh yeah?" said Tristan with a smile.
"You can't be serious. You would've never gotten away without your queen," Sue replied.
"Aren't you forgetting something? There is no queen," Tristan said.
"You could say that again. I'd rather marry a Megalosaurus," Sue snarked as Tristan nudged her
"Good luck finding one that will say yes," said Tristan.
Sue scampered up behind Tristan, poking at his backside with her snout, and said, "Good luck getting out of here without a bruising."
Tristan falls into a defensive stance and says, "Is that how it is Huh?! Give it your best shot!"
Then he let out a playful roar and leaped at Sue and they both tussled around on the ground. Then it ends quickly when Sue ends up on top of Tristan and pins him down with her front feet, producing a resounding thump.
"Ha. Pinned ya" said Sue. "You owe me an apology.:
"Never! Now lemme up," said Tristan, annoyed. Sue gets off him and turns away smiling.
Tristan looks at her and jumps at her again. They began to tussle again, rolling down a short hill. She pins him again in the same position with another thump.
"Pinned ya again!" said Sue. But Tristan saw something ahead that caught his eyes.
"Tristan, stop! What is that?" Tristan told her.
"You're not gonna trick me, Sue. I know that there's nothing…" Then a nearby geyser let out a loud tower of Steam, catching their attention and cutting Sue off.. As Sue got off of Tristan, he looked at their surroundings and noticed something different.
They don't recognize the area they're in. Instead of seeing bright green grass, ferns, cycads, colorful flowers, and fully lush trees, both only saw craggy dead trees and pale gray soil. And yet, they see a bunch of dinosaur skeletons all around them mostly that died of old age alongside crevices, caves, rocky pillars, and cliffs.
"This is it. We made it" said Tristan. "Come on!"
Then they look over the edge they're on and they can see the entire landscape littered with more and more dinosaur bones, some massive and more rocky pillars and oozing mud pits.
"Whoa!" said Tristan and Sue in awe.
"It's really creepy," said Sue.
"Yeah... Isn't it great?" asked Tristan.
"We could get in big trouble," said Sue, relishing her naughtiness.
"I know, huh?" said Tristan, enjoying it also.
As they headed deep into the dinosaur graveyard, the place became more grim and craggy as they moved on, passing scattered bones and pools of bubbling mud.
"Tristan, We're way beyond the boundary of the Valley," Sue told him as he peered into a ribcage.
"I know we are, But we found it, Sue. Do you know what this means?" Tristan asked her excitedly.
"It means we can go home," guessed Sue.
"It means they won't treat us like Rexlings anymore," Tristan answered her.
The Rexlings climb some rocks. A pool of mud bubbles, made Sue flinch. She trails after Tristan warily. Some rocks clatter down from on high, and she recoils again, then looks up, searching the ridge above her. With nothing there, she follows Tristan once more. A dark shape crosses the screen. Not noticing, Tristan and Sue enter an overhang, where there are several cave entrances in the wall. While Sue pauses underneath the overhang, Tristan approaches one of the cave entrances of a massive Cave.
"I wonder what's inside there," said Sue looking at the skull.
"There's only one way to know. Come on. Let's go check it out" said Tristan, walking up to it.
But he was suddenly stopped in his tracks when Anton suddenly appeared flying in front of him. "Wrong! The only checking out you will do will be to check out of here," said Anton.
"Aw, man," said Tristan.
"We are way beyond the boundary of the Valley of Dinosauria," said Anton.
"Huh. Look. Feather Wings are scary. Heh" said Tristan, mocking him.
"That's "Mr. Feather Wings" to you, Fuzzy" corrected Anton poking Sue in the snout.
Then Tristan walks away as Anton says "And right now we are all in very real danger".
Tristan began to move nearer to the entrance of the cave. "Danger? Hah! I walk on the wild side. I laugh in the face of danger. Ha ha ha ha!" laughed Tristan which echoes.
"Cool!" Tristan echoed into the cave and continued. "Did you hear that?"
"I think that's far enough Tristan!" Anton said sternly.
"Yeah, he's right, Now come on Tristan! You've proved how brave you are. Now the sun is going down, I'm not just gonna sit here and…" Sue said only for Tristan to laugh into the cave again.
Then following Trista's confident laughter, unknown laughter was heard from inside the Cave. Scaring Tristan, he ran back and hid behind Sue and Anton. Then a pack of small and medium-sized, yet small carnivores began to appear out from the mouth of the cave and from behind the group. They had feathers covering their bodies and wings on their arms. They have what appears to be a hook sickle claw on their feet. But the trio knew that these creatures were Raptors, the pack hunters. These were actually savages, unwilling to obey the King's laws. Due to their savagery, they were banished to the outskirts of the Valley.
Then a trio of Velociraptors, a Deinonychus, and an Atrociraptor approached the group as the Male Deinonychus and female Velociraptor walked up to the Rexlings and Anton, who appears to be the leader of her pack.
"Well, look at this,' said the Male Deionychus.
"Well, well, well, Torgan. What have we got here?" said the female leader.
"Hmm. I don't know, Oyuun. Uh... what do you think, Bati?" said Oyuun. Bati only responded with crazy laughter as he appeared to be a silly crazy Velociraptor. Soon the pack began to circle the Rexlings. "Yeah, just what I was thinking. A trio of trespassers!"
"Yeah, We weren't expecting guests today. Would you two Rexlings and Archaeopteryx like to...stay for dinner?" said the Deinonychus.
Then a crazy silly Atrociraptor shoves the Deinonychus and Velociraptors aside while saying, "Yeah! Stay for dinner! 'Cause you look like a midnight snack!"
"Oh Come on Ryder!" exclaimed Oyunn.
"Are you serious?!" scolded Torgan because he always screws this up.
"Can you just give me a little bit of space?" the Deinoychus told the Ryder as he lowered his head and backed away.
"I'm helping. Emery," the Atrociraptor said softly.
"We have talked about this before. I come in alone. I'm the lead distraction so everyone can circle!" Emery explained to him as Ryder scratched himself.
"Okay. Okay. Sorry." Ryder apologizes.
"Don't be sorry! Just do it!" Emery scolded before turning to the group and asking. "Now where were we?"
"Yeah, who gets the Leg!" answered Torgan.
"And quite by accident, let me assure you. A simple navigational error. Eh heh heh..." said Anton feeling nervous about the raptors. Then the trio tried to leave but Oyuun stopped them stepping on his tail feathers.
"Whoa, whoa, wait wait wait... I know you. You're Scotty's little stooge" said Oyuun who seemed to recognize Anton.
"I, madam, am the king's majordomo," said Anton correcting her while pulling his tail feathers out.
"And that would make you...?" asked Torgan looking at Tristan.
"The future king," said Tristan.
"Do you know what we do to kings who step out of their kingdom?" asked Oyuun.
"Puh. You can't do anything to me" said Tristan.
"Uhh... technically, they can. We are on their land" said Anton correcting him.
"But Anton, you told me they're nothing but slobbering smelly stupid poachers," said Tristan.
"Ix-nay on the Upid-stay..." said Anton aside, surreptitiously, to Tristan.
"Who you callin' "Upid-stay?!''" said Torgan to Anton.
"My, my, my. Look at the sun. It's time to go!" said Anton being harried, and started to try to hasten the Rexlings away. But the raptors stop them once again.
"What's the hurry? We'd looove you to stick around for dinner" said Oyuun.
"Yeah, ya'll can make great ''appetizers''!" said Torgan and laughs.
"Yeah, or make great ''finger bites''!" said Oyuun and laughed along with him and Ryder.
"Now, this is a meal I've waited my whole life for." a Voiced echoed from the Main Entrance of the Cave as the rest of the Raptors backed away in fear lowering their heads in submission warbling. It was a Large Female Utahrpator, the De Facto Leader of the Raptors named Carrie who approached the Trio.
"What an unexpected treat, to eat the son of a king," said Carrie
"Wait a second. The... The king? As in you-know-who?" asked Emery.
"Who rules you-know-where?" added Ryder.
"Scotty does not rule me!" Carrie Screeched as she approached Tristan and Sue.
"You can't do anything to me. 'Cause I'm the future king!" Tristan trying to intimidate her.
The Utahraptor chuckled as Carrie said, "He's telling me what to do. His father's strength flickering inside. I wonder... how all that bravery will taste."
Carrie walks towards Tristan. Anton flaps suddenly up in front of them, emitting a sharp squawk of "Stop!"
"Let them go, Reyna! They made a horrible mistake! A horrible mistake!" Anton exclaimed. "I'm warning because if you do this, you will start a war with Scotty!"
"The Raptors and Tyrannosaurs have been at war since the beginning of time. But Scotty's bloodline... will END HERE!" Carrie charges at Tristan and Sue with her terrifying shriek. Anton flew to Carrie's face, and pecked her head.
"Run, kids, run!" Anton shouted to the Rexlings as the Raptors were being distracted by the Archaeopteryx, Bati jumps up and starts gesticulating and jabbering.
Oyuun then notices his behavior. "What? Bati? What is it?" asked Oyuun.
Then Torgan looks where Bati is pointing. "Hey, did we order this dinner to go?" asked Torgan.
"No. Why?" asked Oyun.
"'Cause there it goes!" replied Torgan.
Carrie and Oyuun then see the Rexlings and Anton getting awa as the other Raptors are chasing after them.
"After them! Don't let them get away!" Carrie shouted to the other raptors.
As they ran through the hills of bones and cliffs, Anton was suddenly snatched and pinned down by the feet by one of the raptors while in mid-flight.
Then Tristan and Sue stopped for a moment and looked around.
"Did we lose 'em?" asked Tristan.
"I think so," said Aladar. Then he notices something wrong. "Where's Anton?"
The Raptors were in their den, with Torgan holding Anton near a steam vent. He walked Anton to the steam vent, stuffed him into it, and plugged it up. "The little majordomo Bird hippity-hopped all the way to the Birdie-boiler"
"Oh no. Not the Birdie-boiler" cried Anton. Then the vent erupted, shooting Anton up in a puff of steam with him screaming. All the raptors then began to laugh hysterically.
"Hey!" yelled a voice. They all looked up and saw Tristan and Sue looking down at them as Tristan shouted, "Why don't you pick on somebody your own size?"
"Like...you?" said Oyuun with a grin.
"Oops," said Tristan realizing his mistake.
Then the Rexlings started running with the raptors chasing them. Then the raptors dart around behind them and poke their heads through an active methane vent yelling "Boo!"
As the Raptors laughed, it terrified Tristan and Sue and both ran in a different direction. The raptors chased the hatchlings up and down over a skull and the hatchlings then found themselves sliding down on a sauropod spine. They shoot off the end of the spine and land on a hillside of bones. The Rexlings continued running from the Raptors as they ran up the hill.
"Tristan!" screamed Sue.
Tristan looks back and sees Sue screaming and is horrified as she slips back down the pile to the approaching raptors. As Carrie reaches for Sue, Tristan braverly runs back and bites Carrie across the neck, drawing blood. Carrie then became enraged after Aladar bit at her.
They ran through a murky stream as Baryonyx, Suchomimus, Spinosaurus, Irirrtator, Ichthyovenator, Ceratosuchops, Riparovenator, Deinosuchus, Sarcosuchus, Postosuchus, Champsosaurus, Saurosuchus, Paralligator, Borealosuchus, Thoracosaurus, Brachychampsa, Smok, Rutiodon, Smilosuchus, Mahajangasuchus, Redondasuchus, and Kaprosuchus chased them as the Rexlings ran into groups of other theropods like Herrerasaurus, Altispinax, Allosaurus, Ceratosaurus, Torvosaurus, Metriacanthosaurus, Megalosaurus, Concavenator, Acrocanthosaurus, Dilophosaurus, Giganotosaurus, Carcharodontosaurus, Cryolophosaurus, Meraxes, Taurovenator, Sinosaurus, Australovenator, Megaraptor, Mapusaurus, Ozraptor, Saurophahanax, Eustreptospondylus, Liliensternus, Fukuiraptor, Tyrannotitian, Sinraptor, Yangchuanosaurus, Neovenator, Monolophosaurus, Ornitholestes, Gojirasaurus, Lusovenator, and Saurophanax joined in the chase with Pterosaurs like Quetzalcoatlus, Thanatosdrakon, Hatzegopteryx, Phosphatodraco, Tethydraco, Thalassodromeus, Aerotitan, Arambourgiania, Cryodrakon, and Argentinadraco flying above as they landed in front of Rexlings trying to peck them with their beaks as they dodged the Flying Reptiles.
They see Abelisaurs, Abelisaurus, Majungasaurus, Carnotaurus, Aucasaurus, Rajasaurus, Ozraptor, Rugops, Dahalokely, Ceratosaurus, Skorpiovenator, and Xenotarsosaurus who decided to chase them as the Rexlings went into a series of underground tunnels as the exits were belonged by the jaws of the theropods trying to dig them out with their legs. The raptors and troodontids like Velociraptors, Acheroraptors, Kuru kullas, Troodons, Dromaeosaurus, Saurornitholestes, Pectinodons, Stenonychosaurus, Atrociraptors, Deinonychus, Achillobator, Dakotaraptors, and Utahraptors joined in too as Tristan and Sue ran through the tunnel, dodging Raptor and Abelisaur teeth as they dug down into the tunnel.
"Come on!" Tristan shouted. An Acheroraptor digs down into the tunnel, rolling into Tristan and Sue's path as they turn and run the other way, with the raptor in hot pursuit.
Then before they knew it, they ran out of the tunnel network, only to find themselves surrounded by many savage predators. They are now in big trouble as the predators approach them.
"Look, boys! A king fit for a meal!" said Oyuun.
"Here, fella, fella, fella," said Torgan taunting Tristan and Sue.
Then Tristan tried to roar, but instead, it was a very weak, medium yowl. This caused all the Savages to laugh at the Rexling's attempt to scare them.
"Oo-hoo... that was it?" asked Oyuun.
"Did ya hear that? The future king!" laughed Emery.
"Oh, don't hurt me! Oh, do it again!" taunted Ryder as he laughed.
" Hah. Do it again... come on" said Oyuun with a laugh.
Then Tristan opened his mouth to roar again, but the raptors instead heard a full-grown Tyrannosaurus rex's roar.
"Huh?" said Savage Predators confused and then recoiled in fear when they heard it a second time as they turned around who made it.
Then Scotty came out of nowhere and knocked a Spinosaurus towards the other large theropods down to the ground. One of the raptors gets up and tries to sneak on him from behind, but Scotty grabs him with his jaws, sending the raptor flying to the wall. The Predators and Pterosaurus converge on the Tyrannosaur as he pushes them, grabs them with his jaws, and tosses them like ragdolls especially the Pterosaurs who were plucked from the air, stomps and kicks them with his legs and swats them with his tail.
Scotty continues to knock them around as Scotty stands protectively in front of Tristan and Sue he roars at the predators who recoil in fear while Anton who has recovered flies and lands near the Rexlings. Then he corners the raptors to a dead end growling as the raptors cringe under him.
"Oh, please, please. Uncle. Uncle" begged Oyuun.
"Have mercy, please," added Emery begging.
"Don't kill me, please don't kill me," Ryder begged in fear
"Ow. Ow. Ow" said Torgan.
"Silence!" roared Scotty.
"Oh, we're gonna shut up right now," said Torgan.
"Calm down. We're really sorry" begged Oyuun.
"Scotty. Let them go…" said Carrie.
The Tyrannosaur sighs and lets the raptors go, then he approaches Carrie growling a warning.
"If you ever come near my son again..." said Scotty angrily.
"No, Scotty. Never. Never again." Said Carrie as bends her head submissively.
"You've been warned, Carrie," said Scotty baring his teeth.
"Oh, this is... this is your son?!" said Oyuun.
"Oh, your son?" said Torgan.
"I thought they were lying? Did you know that?" asked Oyuun to Torgan.
"No... me? I-I-I didn't know it. No. Did you?" asked Torgan.
"No! Of course not" said Oyuun.
"No," said Torgan.
"I already knew it from the Start," said Emery.
'Yeah, same here!" added Ryder.
Then they looked at Bati and asked "Bati?"
Bati stupidly nods ''yes''. Scotty roars angrily at them.
"Toodles!" said Torgan
The raptors and predators suddenly ran and flew away as quickly as they could in fear and hid in their caves, dens, streams, cliffs, and burrows or behind the pillars looking out in fear making sure if the Tyrannosaur was gone or not.
Anton flies and lands in front of Scotty, giving him a "that'll show 'em" nod... but then withers under Scotty's angry glare. Anton then knew that it was his fault for not taking care of Tristan and he was responsible.
"Dad, I..." said Tristan approaching his father.
"You deliberately disobeyed me," said Scotty looking at his son angrily.
"Dad, I'm... I'm sorry" said Tristan.
"Let's go home," said Scotty sternly. Then they all started walking out of the graveyard with the hatchlings bent down in shame.
"I thought you were very brave" whispered Sue to Tristan.
As they left the cave, the Predators left their hiding places and watched them leave with Carrie glaring at them.
Once they were near the exit, they were unaware that Proximus was watching them from above and out of sight, standing on a ledge where he had been watching the Rexlings' near-demise. And what he was hoping to be their end, but now his Brother had ruined it there now must be another way to deal with them.
