-Chapter Twenty-
"Oh, I don't believe it—I found Luffy" Nami huffed.
"You sure?" Zoro asked.
"Why wouldn't she be?" I asked. "You think she can't recognize our own captain or something?" I questioned.
"Yeah, that stupid mug is defiantly his..." Sanji grumbled, answering for the navigator. "Uh-oh."
"Hey, guys!" I winced as Luffy rocketed towards us, smashing headfirst into both Chopper and Sanji in the process as he did so.
"Sanji! Tony! Are you alright?" Vivi worriedly asked, quick to rush to the two's side.
"Oh, Luffy's back" Usopp remarked upon noticing the captain.
"Yeah, the hard way..." Zoro muttered as he rubbed his face in irritation.
"He certainly knows how to make quite the entrance" I giggled, giving Zoro's arm a comforting pat.
"Sorry about that, guys, my bad" Luffy laughed, not really looking all that sorry.
"Yeah, you're sorry alright—the sorriest excuse for a captain that ever sailed the sea, you moron!" Sanji sneered as he harshly grabbed the captain's shirt and violently began to shake him.
"Dammit! You have any idea how much trouble you put us in—can't you at least try and act like a captain sometimes?" Nami growled.
"Could he even actually be able to attempt something like that?" I asked, before awkwardly rubbing the back of my head when I realized just how mean that sounded. I'm sure he's capable of acting like a serious captain if he put his mind to it.
"I'm sorry" Luffy apologized once again, still not looking the least bit apologetic. "Oh, that's right—where's Ace?" he asked, quickly standing and scrambling towards the ship's railing where he began to scan the land we were sailing parallel across.
"Ace?" Sanji questioned.
"You were with your brother, huh?" Zoro assumed as he crossed his arms.
"Wait a minute—you didn't just leave him, did you?" Usopp asked.
"How very rude of you" I playfully scolded with a smile that only grew upon hearing the captain's laugh.
"Um...sort of, but don't worry, Ace is really strong" he assured us.
"So, how strong is he?" Chopper curiously asked.
"Well, let me put it like this," Luffy hummed in thought, "when we were younger, I was never able to beat him in a fight and this was way back in the days before he ate the Flame Flame Fruit" he answered. "That's how strong my big brother is."
"You mean there's a flesh and blood person you couldn't beat?" Nami gaped.
"Big brother of a monster is an even bigger monster" Usopp shivered.
"Wow" I whistled before grinning as I was suddenly reminded of the times Sora and I would play fight with Cloud, always working together to wrestle him to the ground yet never succeeding as he would effortlessly drag us along. Ignoring our presence as if we weren't even there.
"I guess so 'cause Ace used to beat me up all the time, but I bet now I could kick his big butt" Luffy boasted with a cocky grin.
"I'd like to see you try and back that claim up" Zoro said.
"I bet a fight like that would be entertaining to watch no matter who the winner is" I laughed.
"So, exactly whose butt is getting kicked?" Ace asked, his sudden appearance startling the captain and knocking him back onto his bottom.
"Oh, Ace, this is my crew I was telling you about" Luffy smiled once he finally registered his older brother's appearance.
"Nice to meet you, and thanks for taking care of my kid brother, I know he's a handful" Ace greeted with the tip of his hat.
"Oh no, not at all" we bowed, brushing aside the man's thanks.
"Come on, be honest, this is Luffy we're talking about" he said, not exactly buying our attempt at modesty. "Isn't he a bit much for you to handle at times?" he asked.
"Not at all" we shook our heads.
"You're good people" he sighed with a smile.
"Well, sit down and relax—I'm sure you two have a lot of catching up to do" Sanji offered as he dug out a cigarette. "I'll make some tea."
"No, that's thoughtful, but I don't want to impose" Ace said, politely declining the blonde's offer while lighting his cigarette in the process. I couldn't help but whistle in amazement at how simple and effortless the act was performed, impressed how it took only the flick of his finger for the cancerous stick to become lit.
"He's not exactly what I expected" Sanji admitted, impressed with the older male so far.
"I'll say" Zoro agreed.
"He's polite, helpful, and gracious—just the opposite of Luffy" Usopp breathed out.
"One of them only cares about stuffing his face, there's no way these two can be brothers" Nami said in disbelief, shocked by just how vastly different the two brothers were.
"While the other only cares about his brother" Zoro added.
"Come on now, just because they're opposites doesn't mean they're not brothers" I chuckled. "Clearly one of them is more mature than the other" I grinned.
"Ain't that the truth" Nami snorted in agreement.
"I wish I had a wonderful brother like that" Chopper sniffed, already sounding as if he was close to tears.
"Brother? I wish I had a wonderful captain like that" Sanji wistfully sighed.
"Sanji! He's kidding!" Vivi nervously laughed, quick to try and brush away the blonde's rude comment.
"See, I told you they were interesting" Luffy laughed, a wide grin stretched across his face as he looked towards his brother.
"Baroque Works!" Vivi suddenly gasped upon spying a couple of ships up ahead that bored the Baroque Works Jolly Roger. "Those are the Billions ships" she realized.
"Those guys again" Luffy frowned.
"Luffy, leave it to me—I'll handle them" Ace suddenly spoke up.
"He's going all by himself?" Nami questioned.
"And in that dinky boat too?" Usopp added, curiously peering over the ship's railing as Luffy's brother hopped down from the Merry and into a much smaller boat.
"Well, Luffy did say he was strong, so I'm sure he can handle it like he said" I said.
"Yeah, but still..." Nami mumbled, unconvinced as she warily watched the older man sail towards the enemy ships.
"I wouldn't worry about him if I were you, they don't let just anyone become the second division commander of the Whitebeard Pirates" Zoro said, lightly bumping me with his hip as he walked up beside me.
"Hm" I hummed in agreement, returning his bump with one of my own.
"He jumped!" Nami gasped, surprised by the raven-haired man's bold decision to jump from his ship and into the air as flames erupted from his body and made quick work in burning down the Billons ships.
"He roasted them!" Usopp gaped in awe as Luffy burst out into a fit of laughter.
-Later-
"Whoo! Time to celebrate guys!" Luffy cheered, voice practically drowning out whatever it was Usopp was trying to say.
"Cheers!" he, Usopp, and Chopper shouted as they smashed their cups together.
"Wait, who said I was joining your crew?" Ace questioned from his spot on top of a nearby barrel.
"Didn't you just hear? They did" I grinned.
"And to the delicious drinks!" Usopp cheered as the three once again smashed their cups together.
"Don't worry, you can't take anything they say seriously when they're like this—they get all goofy when they drink" Nami said, quick to wave off the celebrating pirates.
"When can you take anyone that's drunk seriously?" I asked.
"This isn't delicious, it's terrible!" the three suddenly gagged, quick to spit out the alcohol they had just downed in disgust.
"Really? What a shocker" I feigned surprise before rolling my eyes.
"Ace, you sure you don't want to join us?" Luffy asked before taking a huge bite out of the meat he held. "It would be fun, I promise" he said, speaking through a mouthful as he attempted to tempt his older brother into joining the crew.
"Luffy, at least swallow first before speaking" I scolded, before huffing a smile upon hearing the muffled, "sorry," spoken over another mouthful of food.
"I can't right now, I'm chasing someone" Ace declined, one eyebrow now raised in amusement as he grinned at the interaction. "He's a pirate named Blackbeard" he explained.
"Blackbeard?" Usopp echoed.
"We heard of him—he was the one that attacked Drum Kingdom" Vivi reminded the sharpshooter.
"You see, Blackbeard used to be a member of the second division of the Whitebeard Pirates" Ace started to explain. "He was one of my own men, but he committed the most unforgivable sin a pirate could—he killed one of his fellow crew members then he jumped ship," he continued, "as commander of his division, it's my responsibility to take care of him."
